I tried several places and they all let me down. I don't remember how I came across this place, but I've been here several times and it's been great every time. It's worth the bit of a drive I have to take up from imperial beach. Over a year ago, I took some basses in to get set up for recording, including my main player. That thing is still playing true, despite being all over the west coast in a trailer. (I change strings all the time, but not brand or gauge.) More recently, I acquired a fretless precision for a recording project, and had my doubts about the bass I bought from Florida. I brought it in, and was given sage advice to return the bass. I did, and when I saw the pictures was so grateful to be saved the troubled that bass would have caused me... I sent pictures of the next one I found on Craigslist, and felt confident in driving three hours to pick up this bass after running it by Sean. He set that one up lickety split, too.

He said the necessary maintenance was not extensive and gave us a very affordable quote for repairs to get the flute back in shape. She then said she didn't have me scheduled, even though I had inititally responded to her email saying I had agreed to the day and time that I arrived 10 minutes early for. I ended up waiting another half an hour for another instructor, who was actually really nice and personal. The front desk lady then told me to text only to schedule sessions because "emails get lost" like it was my issue she was disorganized. No where in her initial email did she even state that this was an option to do. After texting my payment and scheduling the second session via text, the second session ended up being just completely BAD. I hadn't had a real lesson in several years and was hoping for some patience and encouragement, exactly how the first instructor taught. This instructor is lucky I don't call them out, but believe me when I say that they left me feeling so inept, kept touching my hand to correct me, and even insulted me by assuming how I was feeling. The only thing I was feeling with them was extreme anger at how HOT the room was (with little ventilation!!), their assumptions, and constant criticisms. I want the business to know that you should vet instructors and staff more. Just because someone might have x amount of experience doesn't mean they won't be rude, disorganized, or condescending to people trying to learn an instrument all over again. I of course won't ever return.

Which I get, its their business, but it was a turnoff. Aside from that, it is a pretty huge store. What I like most about it is that they have free classes if you buy a machine from them. Right now they are offered every Wednesday and Saturdays but are subject to change. I'm not sure if it's just basic classes or if you'll get more advanced classes after you master the basics. Machines ranged from 140 dollars to almost 800. They also sell vacuums. Some of the brands I never heard of. Seems like its meant more for industrial cleaning? Or meant for large apartment complexes but I could be wrong. Cute and essential store needed in the community.
