Was just browsing here. I'm interested in buying on eventually but I'm very early in my journey. Even though I told them this, they were kinda pushy with their machines. Which I get, its their business, but it was a turnoff. Aside from that, it is a pretty huge store. What I like most about it is that they have free classes if you buy a machine from them. Right now they are offered every Wednesday and Saturdays but are subject to change. I'm not sure if it's just basic classes or if you'll get more advanced classes after you master the basics. Machines ranged from 140 dollars to almost 800. They also sell vacuums. Some of the brands I never heard of. Seems like its meant more for industrial cleaning? Or meant for large apartment complexes but I could be wrong. Cute and essential store needed in the community. read more

I've had 3 interactions with this store, each time they were very unhelpful. They are listed as an approved retailer/servicer for my Viking sewing/embroidery machine. I called two separate times and walked in once. He was more interested in talking me into upgrading my machine than helping with my questions/issues. I have been a customer for 9 years. I have purchased several sewing machines from Burdick's. I currently own 6, 2 regular machines, an industrial machine, a serger, coverstitch and embroidery machine. However I've probably purchased about 8 machines from Burdick's because some of my current machines are upgrades from entry level machines I also purchased from Burdick's, and I bought a machine for my daughter as well. I've also purchased a vacuum cleaner. Why do I keep going back? Because the products and service are fantastic. Dale and Cruz are so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. When you buy a machine they will show you how to use it, not just the day of purchase but whenever you have a need. They also service and repair machines. My machines are serviced annually and my machines are returned quickly and in perfect working order. Once I dropped my serger and a spindle that holds a thread cone broke off. I took it to Burdick's to be repaired. Instead of ordering a new part that would've cost $50, they glued it back on and the break is imperceptible. I also love that if you're ever interested in upgrading your machine, you can take your machine in and get a nice credit for it to apply to the new machine. You may also be able to put a machine on layaway for a short time. They carry mostly Elna and Husqvarna Viking brands, but they have other brands that are refurbished/pre-owned. Whenever someone asks me what kind of machine to buy, I always recommend they go Burdick's (or their local sewing/vacuum shop if they aren't in San Diego). If they are looking for a lower price point they can pick up a used machine. You will get a higher quality machine than a new one at the same price point. Also if you buy online you're pretty much on your own after purchase, but if you buy from a sewing machine/vacuum shop, you have support as long as you own the machine. read more

Since I purchased my Elna Sewing machine and Riccar vacuum cleaner 17 years ago, I couldn't be happier! Burdick's products and staff are exceptional. Associate Dale has helped us most often. I took my vacuum cleaner in because it was not spinning, it still sucked up the dirt but the roller just didn't roll. I pressed the button and it didn't move. I specifically told this to the man helping me. He started checking it out , took it apart said it was dirty and it needed replacing roller, filter, different things needed replacing I said find fix it. I picked it up anfre days later and my BIGGEST MISTAKE AND REGRET was not checking it before I left. I paid the people cash because they give a 5% discount for cash payments . I took the vacuum home, mind you I hardwood floors, so I didn't use it right away When I did use it the problem was not solved it still doesn't roll so I took it back to them. LOTS of RED FLAGS THEY ASKED FOR MY RECEIPT, and I couldn't find it. I sincerely do not know what happened to it but he remembered because I was referred to them turns out the motor is frozen and they didn't notice that the first time I took it ... what the heck folks that's why I took it to begin with. Now I have a vacuum with a frozen motor all new parts. Would I recommend this repair shop NO and If you do use them make sure to check it before you leave, I wanted to check it but another man was on the phone so they didn't allow me to try it They get an F for failure to comply 5/21/24 I would like to add that the company reached out to me, they had to order the part. It took a while for the part to arrive but it was fixed and they just charged me the difference from my original quote which was about $12.00 . I took my side machine there for repair. They did a wonderful job. It did not take more than a few hours for them to correct the problem. I also ended up buying a singer serger from them. I feel the staff was very attentive and very polite. The gentleman even carried both of my machines to the car. My mother had her machine serviced there and then went back a couple of weeks later to ask to have the screws loosened so she can clean out a part. They tried to charge her $90 just to loosen two screws. She declined and then they tried to sell her a new sewing machine. They could have loosened screws in a couple of minutes and retained a loyal customer, but customer service does not seem to be their strong suit, to say the least. I was considering up grading my sewing machine. I called with questions the owner was rude repeatedly told me to Shut up several times. I was not even talking. So so rude I was offended insulted I hung up and called back and spoke to Dale he was the person who who originally helped me he he didn't even have the back bone to apologize. It was senior abuse. Money is there priority. I was comparing internet prices with there's.they did service my old machine which was ok.Just think if if they ran a customer friendly business they the could have more customers then they could handle.I had just spent 160.00 there. Bait and switch. Called before driving from N. County to check if they'd try to repair our Kenmore, even though it's a discontinued company. They said they'd try anyway. Drove all the way there and the man said no, they'd not try to repair it, no parts available. Wasted an hour of my time and a LOT OF GAS, so sad. My husband tried to get a vacuum serviced that he bought there. It was supposed to be under warranty. They would not honor the warrant, said they couldn't fix it and tried to sell him a very expensive new vacuum. They were also rude. We will never give this business our money again. ALSO, my husband tried to take in my sewing machine for a tuneup, they said it would be $90! Ridiculous price for a Singer that prob cost the same. Will definitely NOT return here again!! They took advantage of an elderly lady and are only interested in themselves, not their client! I almost never write negative reviews, but this one is definitely worth writing and reading. My elderly grandmother took her sewing machine to get repaired and they convinced her to trade it in and buy a much more expensive sewing machine. She left her own sewing machine there with them, paid a $20 deposit, and agreed to pay the rest of the money that month. She left with her receipt to return the next day to make a payment. The next day, however, she realizes she doesn't want or need a new sewing machine and just wants her old sewing machine back. She told them they could keep the $20 and all she wanted was her sewing machine back. THEY DECIDED TO GIVE HER NOTHING. So in the end of the day, my elderly grandmother took her sewing machine in for maintenance, and left without her sewing machine, minus $20, and no new sewing machine. They absolutely TOOK ADVANTAGE OF AN ELDERLY LADY and I was there in person reasoning with them, but they were more interested in making a quick buck than having a long-term client. They were also very RUDE with her and one worker even made a RACIST comment about how we should learn English since we're in the U.S. (all the while I was speaking perfect English with her). DON'T GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY. Instead find another business that actually values you as a client and is looking out for your best interest, not just their own. P.S.: I also read the receipt they made my grandmother sign and it just says no cash refund. Nothing about trade-ins. read more

I brought a small portable sewing machine in because the needle would not pick up the bobbin thread. I had it about 15 years and just used it for small jobs, but I had made 15 masks on it without a problem. The younger man who approached me took one look at the machine and said I needed to get a bigger machine, that this was not worth fixing because it was a toy. I told him I used it for small things, and he quoted me a price of $90.00 based on nothing as he hardly looked at it. Then said it would cost more than it was worth. So rude!!!! Was told my machine was worthless and beyond repair while it's only missing a belt. It also appeared their knowledge was low as they assumed my 1960s machine had plastic gears. Asked if they could source the parts, they said "no it wouldn't be worth it." Then proceeded to attempt to sell me one of their own used machines @25% off. I am very pleased with their customer service, their technical service, and the products they sell. I hope they continue in business for a good long while! Repairs - It's local -. I used to have to take my Kirby (1989ish model) up north and the service on the machine was only OK and the prices high. Here the service is great and quick, and the prices very reasonable. Purchases - They are knowledgeable - I asked about a light, easy to use vacuum for quick dog hair pick-ups. I bought the Panasonic MC-CG301, and have been very pleased with it. They told me about a small attachment ( $7.00) that would allow the use of Kirby attachments on the Panasonic - wonderful idea and very helpful. We love our new canister which replaces all the useless hand-helds we have tried to use. They did not push purchasing any bags - wish they had a little bit, as need some right now. I just checked online and Burdick's sells them for the same price as Amazon, so am on my way right after this. (Did I mention they are open on Sundays?) Customer Service They are responsive. Re the purchase (Panasonic) - I put a $20 deposit and then looked up reviews. I expected the online price would be lower, but price was almost half. I went back and told them I was giving up the deposit and why They went on line and found many sellers at the lower price - they thanked me and gave back the deposit. I went here to get my sewing machine looked at because it wasn't running properly. They did a good job cleaning it & giving it a tune up. There were two thing that didn't sit well with me. First when I walked in the woman greeted me & I told her I need my machine looked at. She took me to a table & before she/ they looked at my machine to see what was wrong with it she asked me if I wanted to trade it in for something else. It caught me off guard & I instantly said NO because that's not what I came in for. Second being is I had tried to fix what was wrong with it & I told the gentlemen what I had did & he said "your never supposed to mess with that part" he kind of made me feel like I had ruined my machine. Even tho it wasn't something super major. Hopefully my machine continues to run well & I don't have to bring it in. But if I do I'll bring it back here. read more

This Sewing store is the most amazing store on the planet Earth. I accidentally went into the store to find parts for a sewing machine and was looking for Sewing lessons. I ended up getting a New Machine and I am sewing to my hearts content. FREE CLASSES FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. What I sew and embroider I sell which is paying for the machine. Walked in for a repair and they barely looked at it just seriously GLANCED at it and said I had already "gotten it out of alignment and there was no fixing it" which is weird because I didn't touch any settings on my BRAND NEW serger only used twice but they said for just a little more they would trade my serger in for another used one. Only giving them one star because I can't give them a zero. I took my mom's sewing machine in for repairs. When I went to pick it up, I noticed that the handle on the case did not work anymore. When I asked what had happened to the case, the man who worked there immediately took offense. He came over pushed on the button so hard that it was stuck in the down position and would not pop up anymore. When I showed him what he had done, he claimed that it was brought in that way. He was not even there when I brought it in. I asked to speak to the manager and he refused to give me the manager's name or number. He became very angry and started cussing and getting in my face. When I attempted to video tape his actions he came across the store and slapped my hand and tried to take my iPhone away. He then attempted to hit me in the face. When he was unsuccessful he took my sewing machine after I had already payed for the repairs and would not give it back. He was saying that he was going to have me thrown in jail and that he had it all on tape. I had to call 911 and report a battery and strong arm robbery. After Chula Vista P. D. Showed up he changed his tune and claimed that his store did not have video tape. It took the police to get my sewing machine back from this store. I would warn anybody not to do business with this store. Very poor customer service!!!! They will cuss at you, try to steal your merchandise and commit battery on your person if you disagree with their service! read more

I would like to put zero stars. Super rude and not helpful at all. I went in there with one person staring at me and said "is this your machine? didn't think YOU would know how to sew" then basically I needed help to screw a small screw and he wouldn't help or explain at all and said if he did it would cost me 60 bucks! What a jerk. I have never said a negative review in here but these guys asked for it. Extremely condescending and I told them so. They said, "what's that mean?" Don't waste your time here. read more

I was very pleased with the service I received at Burdick's. I came in to see why my vacuum was not getting good suction. The service tech found a piece of bark lodged where I could not have seen it, and they told me that if I would clean the old cloth bag the suction would improve. I did clean it real well and now my 3 year old vacuum is like new and I didn't have to spend a dollar. I would recommend Burdick's just for their friendly honest service. read more

pros: they have been in Chula Vista for years, and they are open pretty much every day. they do have quite a few sewing machines and vacuums, most of them are used, at least that's what is in the store front. service is ok, nothing to write home about. just went in there yesterday, needed to find a foot pedal for my mother-in-laws old sewing maching. they didn't have the original one, but it was close and it did work. the guy, not the owner, even tried to find another one, that might work a bit better. in the end he also gave me a discount as well. cons: they don't carry the vacuum bags that i need, and the knock-off brand bags are pretty sad excuse for a vacuum bag. i have a miele and the bags they use are really well made and super durable, all cloth with a thin film of metal or something. the original ones also have a really sturdy plastic attachment to the vacuum which has a little flap that's spring loaded, which closes when you take the bag out. what the owner sold me was "just as good" as the original, is what he said. but it was a very poor imitation, and for just a $10 more, i could have gotten the originals at BBB. these knock offs were cloth, but didn't have the special lining, and the sturdy plastic collar attachment was made of cardboard and the closing flat was made of paper. i was going to open the package, but the owner said that they look exactly the same. last time i'm going there for vacuums. i think they LOST their official status as a Miele vacuum rep. i know that if i were miele i would have taken it away from them. but i will go for sewing stuff, but never for vacuum parts or accessories. and another suggestion, go with the guy with the curly hair, he's not the owner, and won't steer you wrong. read more

Last month my Kirby started smoking and smelling real bad. I just finished paying it off and did not want to waste 3 years worth of payments by disposing of it and getting a new one. I searched a repair place and found Burdick's. Thank God!! Their staff was wonderful, they repaired my vacuum and gave me lots of tips on how to maintain it in the future. I went to this place yesterday because my seeing machine was making a loud noise and it was giving me a hard time to sew. I don't do big projects. The guy just looked at and told me that the machine had been dropped and it was not worth the repair. He said that I should by a new one and offered a $400.00 used machine. He tried to add pressure saying that if I purchased it at that moment he would give me a bigger discount. I decided to leave with my worthless (in his words ) machine. I am so glad I decided to go to a different store here in Chula Vista, because it turned out that all my sewing machine needed was oil. The man added oil and the noise stopped. He didn't charge me anything and even helped me carried the machine to my car. I will never go back to Burdick's Sewing and Vacuum Center, nor recommend it to anyone. read more

Same day service for my wounded Baby Lock Serger. Took my serger in for repair in the morning and was given a 24 hour completion time. I received it back on the same day in perfect working condition. Evaluation and general maintenance charge was reasonable and the problem was identified and fixed with in that maintenance charge. No extra charges for extra parts and service. the owner and repair representative were friendly and knowledgeable. I have been a patron of Burdick for at lease 30 years+ and will continue to be for many more years to come. Very satisfied.. Thumbs up! read more
