I booked a tea party lunch session on the weekend with my friend, and we both had a wonderful experience. They also accommodate a vegan menu for tea party bookings. Our names were printed on the menu, which was a very nice touch. There is a large collection of teas to choose from, along with a detailed menu. They let you smell the teas from a tea tray, which helps a lot when choosing the one you like. The staff explained each tea and recommended flavors based on our personal tastes. They also introduced and explained the sweet and savory items on the menu. We had panda tea and hibiscus tea. The sweet and savory tea party lunch set was delicious and represented Indonesian desserts well. We enjoyed the savory items more than the sweet ones, but we loved the great variety of desserts. We especially loved the presentation. Everything came together to create a lovely experience and a wonderful girls' hangout time. The place is quaint and cute. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Her posture while pouring tea was very elegant. It happened that the weekend we chose was right before Valentine's weekend, so the restaurant was not too crowded, which was a plus for us. However, their lunch party sessions are normally fully booked and busy, especially on weekends. You should definitely call and book ahead if you want to experience this lunch tea party. 12/10 highly recommend this experience, especially for girls' dates. Gula ('sugar' in Indonesian) is a wonderful addition to Buford Highway's rich Asian sweet treat scene. I've never had Indonesian desserts before, so was very excited about this. We tried the: - Es Cendol (coconut milk, palm sugar, pandan rice flour jelly): The more I drank this, the more it grew on me- a little reminiscent of brown sugar boba. We added jackfruit, but I don't think that's needed. - Bubur Campur (black sticky rice, pandan custard, sweet potato & taro ball, tapioca jelly, side coconut milk): I liked all the toppings, but the texture of the rice wasn't really my vibe. Glad I tried this, but probably wouldn't get again. - Kaya Toast: This was my surprise favorite, loved the kaya ('coconut') jam, which was on the sweeter side with notes of caramel. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the slabs of butter were complementary. Persimmon is also my favorite fruit, so points given for that haha. I may or may not have gone to my local Asian grocery store to purchase kaya jam the next day. Service was friendly and fast. The only thing I'll mention is that some of the larger tables had tea sets but nothing indicating that sitting there wasn't allowed (later we learned they have afternoon high tea most days). The shop is relatively small and was packed when we went on a Saturday night so not having 3 large tables available was a bit inconvenient. This is another great addition on BuHi! I knew I had to try this place when I found out they have Kaya toast. I've been looking for Kaya toasts in ATL since trying it the first time in Singapore. The ambiance of this place is so chic and adorable! You order at the counter and they will bring your order to your table. I had a friend already snag a table before I got there. I'm not sure what she ordered but I of course had to get a kaya toast with pandan and bajigur. My order came out super fast and I couldn't wait to get in the kaya toast. The toast was delicious but quite messy to eat since the butter was melting fast. The bajigur was very ginger heavy but had a nice sweetness and addition of coconut milk. The staff is helpful, parking is easy and I loved most of the food. If I didn't love it, the experience of trying something new was satisfying. If you've never tried Indonesian desserts, this is absolutely worth a visit. What makes it unique The menu felt genuinely different from the usual Asian dessert spots. Lots of tropical and Indonesian flavors like: * Pandan * Black glutinous rice * Durian * Passion fruit * Lychee and other tropical fruit drinks and desserts Tea party set and value They recently started a tea party set that looked amazing for about $50 (around $48 per person depending on how it's listed). For comparison, a similar experience we saw in Victoria was $109 per person (Canadian dollars), so this felt like a strong value for the experience. Flavor highlights * Pandan squeeze or pandan paste: a standout. It reminded me of ube, and honestly sometimes it tasted even better than ube. * Black glutinous rice: really enjoyable, though sweeter than my personal preference. That said, compared to many US desserts, it still felt relatively not too sweet, which was refreshing. Important note about coloring A lot of the desserts use artificial coloring. If artificial coloring puts you off (same for me), you may not love every item visually or conceptually. But if you can look past that, the flavors are still worth exploring. Ambience and seating The ambience is very quiet, calm, and pleasant. There's a decent amount of seating, and the space felt like it had enough room for a wheelchair. It also seemed kid friendly. Would I recommend it? Yes. Never had an Indonesian dessert place in ATL! Gula just opened about 3 weeks ago and replaced the old mango mango dessert place. We ordered Es Cendol and Bubar Campur. It was so unique and delicious. The Es Cendol was made of Palm sugar, coconut milk and then rice flour jelly. It tastes very similar to coffee but yet there's no coffee in there! It mixes very well with the pandan rice flour jelly.
