We opted for half and half custard and red bean. My favorite is the custard. It is on the lighter side, where as redbean is more rich and sweeter. We'd just finished a rather modest food court lunch (which, these days, even 'modest' costs $13 a person without drinks!), when my wife saw this stall. The man working at the counter was very welcoming and friendly. My bubble waffle was tasty and the perfect texture that I was used to when I was in Hong Kong. How often I come to HMart in Doraville and never see Yaki Yaki or knew about it? At the food court, it's to the far most right side. I've eaten at the food court before but just never noticed it. I do think it's somewhat "new" since I see reviews as early as 2019. My friend suggested us to get some Korean desserts. She is Korean and says this place is legit and mentions she loves the Walnut Bread and says it reminds her of her childhood in South Korea. She also got mini fish shape bread, half red beans and half nutella. It was delicious! I got the Aboong Ice Cream, strawberry flavor. It was just too cute. I'm a sucker for anything cute. I love me some ice cream. There was other flavors of ice cream and the owner gave us a complimentary cup. I wanted to try peach. Honestly, I prefer the peach flavor over the strawberry! Overall, I did like the Aboong Ice Cream but I prefer it to not be decorated with so much. It was fun to watch them being made, as there was extra care taken to ensure that all the pastries were of good quality and kept all their gooey contents inside their warm exterior. I will preface this by saying I loooove /mini fish waffles. This place is located in the Hmart food court. I came pretty much right before it closed but the worker still allowed my friends and I to order. We got a 10 piece mini fish waffle, half custard and half red bean. The sign outside the window says they don't use oil when making the waffles and it shows. The outside is super crisp but not oily! The custard had a very good vanilla flavor and consistency. It wasn't too runny but it wasn't super stiff, although stiffness is hard to determine while it's piping hot. I'm personally not a fan of red bean but the people I was sharing with like it. I tried a few bites and it was fine. Overall I really liked the fish waffles here. I definitely want to try the fish waffle ice cream cone once it gets warmer and maybe some of the other things! Oooh, a taiyaki stall in the Hmart food court! Couldn't resist ordering a school of 10 of these waffle-like mini fishes. You choose the filling. Red bean paste and custard are $6.99 each, and chocolate, Nutella, mozzarella, and sweet rice cake are $7.99. The woman running the stand was helpful and accommodating. I asked if we could split flavors, and she agreed to do half and half. She advised that chocolate might be a better choice than Nutella since Nutella's slightly runnier, and she agreed to hold off on making our order since we ended up wanting to get something savory to eat beforehand. The waffle-like taiyaki takes time to prepare, and luckily Yaki Yaki wasn't slammed. I found I liked the red bean better than the chocolate. The chocolate was of the milk variety and reminded me of melted Hershey's kisses. The waffles were piping hot and crunchy on the outside with a softer interior, and the fish details were clear. There were only a few bits and pieces of extra batter hanging off here and there, and there was an adequate amount of filling inside. I wish you could order a smaller quantity. Ten is ideal for sharing, but what if you're solo? Doubt these would keep well. I'd like to see a dark chocolate filling option too. Besides the taiyaki, you can get ice cream inside a bigger piece of fish bread, ice cream in a bubble waffle, flower shaped bread, and walnut shaped cookies. Such a smart idea to use a slightly salty pancake batter and pair it with a sweet custard inside. Why haven't i thought of this !?! Hmart tends to be cooler than other supermarkets (no idea why) which makes the mini hot fish bread from Yaki Yaki even more appetizing :-) We ordered 10 mini fish bread - 5 filled with custard and 5 filled with Nutella. It's shortly over $8 (incl. tax). The fillings are delicious without any doubt! Custard isn't very sweet - good for Asians. Because it's mini, the waffle shell is nice and crispy. Our kids loved them! I was attempted to order even more :-) I'm afraid we will always drop by this place when we go to Hmart now. Removed one star due to price. My go-to order is the 10 piece mini Taiyaki for only $6.99, or $7.99 if you want ~fancy~ flavors. You can mix and match flavors in sets of 5, so I usually get 5 red bean and 5 custards. They're freshly made and come out piping hot with a crispy exterior and creamy, melt-in-your-mouth filling. Whenever I head out to the H-Mart in Doraville, I have to make sure I did my daily exercise and came a bit hungry. Just after you pass the cashiers for the supermarket is a tiny little food court which includes Yaki Yaki. I try to make a stop here every time I go because their desserts are quite good and remind me a lot of the food I used to eat when I was younger. We use to go to J-town in Los Angeles and get these type of snacks. Their menu is simple and pretty much variations on the theme. If you never had a bubble waffle before, it allows you try a new texture of the same batter you would use for pancakes or waffles. Here you can order it plain, with chocolate, with caramel or with ice cream. One bubble waffle is generally good to share between two people. I also like the fish bread/cakes (sweet not savory). You can choose to have them filled with red bean paste (my favorite) or custard (also my favorite). They do take credit cards (no Amex). They are quick and fairly inexpensive. I think this is a fusion dessert place because there are aspects of Chinese, Korea and Japanese flavors here. Again, if you haven't tried these types of desserts yet, you're missing out! read more
