    Fisherman's tears

I saw this place on TikTok and had to go. The place is cutely decorated. You are able to sit anywhere. We sat at a table and the chairs were metal so they were super cold. My step mom went next door to buy a Shaw bc she felt like it was so cold. We had a male server and he was super sweet and nice. We ordered a round of drinks. I got the cherry martini and it was great. We got the whipped feta and it was super salty. We also got the charcuterie board which was good. We did not have any explanation of the cheese or meat that was served to us. To preface we are from Baton Rouge. I ordered a fisherman's tears but it was way too sweet for me. I would come back with my friends and try the wine

I got dragged into this spot by my pal The Major as we were visiting The Wharf and just touring around to see what was happening at the various bars. The Major mentioned that there was a new bar we should investigate so off we went on an adventure. So our destination was Gulf Babe which is a VERY niche business that seems to be exclusively focused on women. Everything in here is VERY frou-frou except for the fact they ONLY have ONE small bathroom which I would think they would have a LOT more bathrooms in such an establishment. I was happy to see some ladies dressed up very nicely which is uncommon in the more laid back beach life of the area. Overall I would just sum up my brief experience here as just a very expensive place for women. As a man I can't rate this joint more than two stars as it just isn't made for me but for the ladies I think they would rate this as a 4 star joint and if they added more bathrooms maybe a 5 star joint for them. Overall I don't see any reason to make a return visit other to than to appreciate the view of the nicely dressed ladies having fun here but unless I make the unlikely decision to bring one of my seersucker suits to the beach it is doubtful I shall ever return...

From the moment you walk in, Tonya, Lisa, and Suzanne treat you like an old friend who happens to have great taste. Need a wine to pair with dinner, impress a date, or survive your in-laws? They somehow read your soul and hand you the perfect bottle. Seriously, Suzanne's wine knowledge borders on psychic. She'll hand you something that tastes like it should cost $100, and then tell you it's under $20. You'll double-check the label just to make sure you heard her right. The place is spotless--like, "you could perform surgery on the countertop" clean--and the back patio has a stunning water view that pairs perfectly with a glass (or three). The bacon-wrapped dates? Little bites of heaven. The pizza? So authentic it makes you start planning a trip to Italy... or at least a return trip here next weekend. Whether you're planning a date night, a social hangout, or just grabbing a bottle for dinner at home, Crush Wines nails it. Funny thing is, you'll come for the wine, but you'll stay for the vibe--and probably leave with a new favorite bottle, a full belly, and the urge to hug Suzanne for being a wine wizard.

One thing that stood out was the gift shop at the entrance--it could definitely use a refresh. The dark corner filled with outdated beach clothing isn't the best first impression. We visited on a Tuesday around 7:00 p.m., and there was no wait. During our meal, only about four tables were occupied, so it was very quiet. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and checked on us frequently. The only odd part of the atmosphere was that cartoons were playing on the bar TVs even though there weren't any kids in the restaurant. For dinner, my husband ordered the surf and turf, and his steak was cooked perfectly. The baked potato, however, came with an overwhelming amount of melted cheese--enough for several potatoes. I ordered the blackened grouper. It was cooked well and had good flavor, but the fillet was very thin and wasn't as memorable as other grouper dishes I've had. The whipped sweet potatoes were sweeter than expected from the brown sugar, and the Brussels sprouts were heavily coated in a sweet balsamic glaze, leaving them soft instead of crispy. I think both sides would be better with less added sweetness to let the natural flavors shine. We finished with the Bananas Foster, which was delicious and a fun presentation. It came with three small scoops of vanilla ice cream and half a banana. Since the flaming presentation takes a little time, larger scoops of ice cream would hold up better and not be half melted by the time the fire goes out. We would come back to avoid wait at other restaurants but would try different side dishes next time.

My advice, find a seat, have someone order at the order window, then head to the bar to order drinks. The wait to order food took about a half hour. It was very quick to get our drinks. We were able to snag a couch area on a platform. It was so comfy and we loved the views. A heads up- if you snag a couch like this, kids will get up on the platform and jump off of it. People will step up on the platform and walk extremely close to you. I had to ask a kid to stop throwing sand by us because we were eating our dinner. It was a little chaotic. We were extremely patient and understand, but I could see some people being very upset and annoyed. After ordering, our food came out pretty quick. I started with the coconut grouper bites and they were phenomenal. Light breading, lightly sweat, and flaky. I had the Gulf Grilled Cobia and it was phenomenal. The fish was tender, flaky, and light. No fishiness at all. The sauce on the fish was also delightful. My husband and son had the fajita skewers and both enjoyed them. My husband also had the peel and eat shrimp and said they were amazing at The Gulf. Our drinks were okay. We had better drinks at other places during the week, but they weren't bad. We would return, but try to come on an off-time that wasn't so busy.
