The atmosphere and location of The Gulf are unmatched. Beautiful views, palm trees, and right on the water. It was very busy when we arrived, so finding a seat was a little stressful. My advice, find a seat, have someone order at the order window, then head to the bar to order drinks. The wait to order food took about a half hour. It was very quick to get our drinks. We were able to snag a couch area on a platform. It was so comfy and we loved the views. A heads up- if you snag a couch like this, kids will get up on the platform and jump off of it. People will step up on the platform and walk extremely close to you. I had to ask a kid to stop throwing sand by us because we were eating our dinner. It was a little chaotic. We were extremely patient and understand, but I could see some people being very upset and annoyed. After ordering, our food came out pretty quick. I started with the coconut grouper bites and they were phenomenal. Light breading, lightly sweat, and flaky. I had the Gulf Grilled Cobia and it was phenomenal. The fish was tender, flaky, and light. No fishiness at all. The sauce on the fish was also delightful. My husband and son had the fajita skewers and both enjoyed them. My husband also had the peel and eat shrimp and said they were amazing at The Gulf. Our drinks were okay. We had better drinks at other places during the week, but they weren't bad. We would return, but try to come on an off-time that wasn't so busy.

The best part about this spot is 1000% the views. It was drafty out, but I could only imagine how nice it is in the mid-summer. Views right by the ocean, an open themed bar, palm trees, and music. It's not a quiet date night spot; more like a nice waterfront spot to take your friends and/or kids. The food was ok. I had the Cobia BLT & fries. The fries were good but the blt was tough. The bread was also a bit stale. The coconut fish bite appetizers were a 10/10. Delicious. Wifey had the mahi mahi tacos which she thought were just ok as well -- again tough. She did not however enjoy the cauliflower bites. I personally enjoyed them. We had mixed feelings about it. Great ambience, ok food. May come back.

Great little place. We chanced it even with the wild winds. Service was good. You have to go to window to order then they bring food to table. They have very limited covered seating around bar. Yet plenty of outdoor seating. The food and drinks were awesome. The Grilled Cobia was awesome. The seafood boil was good, would have been great if they had a more spicy version. Their fries were really good. I'm

Loaded fries were amazing. Lobster roll & grouper bites were good but not amazing. Service was excellent though and kids loved being able to walk around for photos. The Gulf is right next to a public fishing spot, which made it convenient for my son to fish while we ate.

The Gulf is a great spot in OBA for a tasty meal or to grab drinks with a view of the boats coming in. There are separate areas to order food and beverages. There is a lot of seating, but it can get packed! The food is soooo good. Everything I have tried here has been amazing, you can't go wrong! I always look forward to visiting The Gulf when I am in OBA.

Restaurant with stunning views of the ocean and quick service, however food didn't have much flavor (grouper sandwich, mahi fish tacos) and seemed pretty pricey for the quality of food we received during our visit. I did really enjoy the parm truffle fries though. Definitely a "touristy" spot based on our one time experience.

Absolute incredible. The food perfection. The view is unmatched. The staff is friendly. There's literally nothing negative to say. A MUST when visiting gulf shores

This place may just become a go to if we are going to Orange Beach or Gulf Shores in Alabama. It is such a beautiful spot to kill an afternoon. We had never been to Orange Beach before so we went to the Wharf and decided to pop in here on our way home. I'm so happy we did because my food was delicious. The bartenders were super nice and we really couldn't get enough of this incredible water. We saw some dolphins go by and loved watching the boats come through the inlet. It was a weekday, so particularly quiet, but so lovely. My niece enjoyed her grouper sandwich. The truffle fries were really truffle-y. I very much enjoyed my shrimp tacos although my husband had the mahi tacos and he said the first one was a little fishy. I think I'll suggest he get the gulf shrimp next time. Hard to go wrong with fresh local catch!

We loved this spot for lunch. Ample seating including shaded or sunny on the bay. Great food and friendly service. Large bar in the middle and great views. We enjoyed the swordfish bites, chicken sandwich, burger and chicken tenders.

Perfect family restaurant! It's beautiful with a great vibe! Truffle fries were amazing, catch of the day - delicious! Lobster roll not worth it. Only complaint. Great service! Would definitely go back!

More of a shrimp roll. Would have been better if cheaper because it lacked taste

I do like the atmosphere with the sand area. My 3 stars really comes from the fact that this is more bar food rather than sit down full meal food. My daughter had shrimp tacos and they were good. My husband and I on the other hand had the shrimp and lobster roll and it was flavorless and $30 a piece. It should have been called cold shrimp roll lightly sprinkled with a lobster garnish. For that price, I could have gotten a full lobster roll. I can only judge based on these 2 dishes, my dad's burger looked good but we left with a large bill and little desire to return other than the nice scenery.

Good service and ambiance but mid food, my chips and guacamole were stale with bland guacamole and who tf seasoned this seafood boil

Our family had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is unmatched and food was good! The price point made it a bit prohibitive to enjoy it at a full 5-star experience and the ordering process was a little complicated and convoluted (you order differently depending on where you sit). Overall, we would absolutely go back and recommend it to others.

Ask the Community - The Gulf

How is pricing? Will it cost an arm and a leg or just an arm. Im feeding 4 adults, 2 kids, one 7 month old

It is comparable to every thing else in the US. Grocery, gas, eating out and activities are costly.

Is there a surcharge if you pay with a credit card?

    Nope!

    Are there celiac friendly options?

The menu changes daily, mostly fresh seafood & ingredients. They normally have salad, burgers & fries. Not a celiac environment. However Lulu's recently built a special separate kitchen for specific dietary needs that is quite impressive,

    Is this place Kid friendly?

    Yes, it is kid friendly.

    Pet friendly? Small breed dog?

    Yes!

    Any nightly Live music?

No. Go across the street to San Roc

Is there indoor dining? With AC?

No. It is all outdoor seating. You walk up to the counter to order your food (if it is a weekend night, be prepared to wait a bit and make new friends while in line) then you choose a picnic style table and your food is brought to you.

Is there cover from the rain?

Although there are several picnic tables with umbrellas, there is very little cover from the rain. The night we went it started sprinkling just as we started eating, but fortunately it was very light and we had a small umbrella. Best bet is to go…

    Do you have dessert?

Yes, but only 1 or 2.

    Is your establishment Vegan friendly?

Our menu changes daily but we often have vegan options plus we will do our best to modify our menu items to meet your requests. We hope you can join us soon!

    Is this business dog friendly?

Not sure around the bar and restaurant area. But, there are tables outside and on the beach with nice view and aura, that belongs to the restaurant.

Can you order "off menu"? You sometimes offer a regular shrimp taco, but it hasn't been on your menu lately.

Hi, Sarah! We do our best to accommodate our guests needs but unfortunately they must order off our posted menu.…

Well they help you if you stick crayons up your nose to get them out?

We started with the shrimp and crab dip which may have been the best bite of our entire vacation! If you go you MUST get the dip, it is so worth it! I got the mahi mahi and while the flavor was very tasty, it was overcooked. It's a bummer as I look forward to the fresh seafood on our trips down here. It ended up being tough. However, the brussels sprouts were the best I have ever had! The grits were also wonderful. My husband got the all you can eat snow crab and he was very pleased! Like it's almost insane. I work in mobile so I'm already crabby for the one hour and twenty minute drive to and from there. I told my daughter I'd take her out to eat. We came here. To my surprise- not many people at all. The bartender was our server she was incredibly tentative and nice. We ordered crab dip 7/10. I would like to see it paired with chips instead of bread stick. I got the catch of the day with a loaded baked potato and side salad which that to me was a 8.5/10. I was so full and so excited for my left overs. The manager was checking on every one and offered my daughter fish food. At this point I have paid and we went to go feed the fish and when we came back everything on the table was gone. My bill was 92 which might be normal for 2 people here I'm not too sure yet. But I was so disappointed. My daughter said it was the best butter noodles she ever had and she ate up the bread.

The first thing that impressed me was the ample parking. The restaurant also has a small private beach area for customers, along with a great bar area overlooking the water. The property is handicap accessible with both ramps and stairs, making it easy for everyone to enjoy. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Assistant Manager Taylor. He made me feel extremely welcome and even recommended a lunch item from the menu. I took his advice and ordered the Pork Ribeye Sandwich, and it was absolutely amazing. On the side, I had a salad with their homemade ranch dressing. Without a doubt, this is some of the best ranch dressing I have ever had. The bartender, Cody, was outstanding as well. I tried the Lime Margarita, Blackberry Mojito, and the Strawberry Basil drink. Every one of them was fantastic. You can tell this is a place that people genuinely enjoy working at. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the customers all seemed happy to be there. It's rare to find a restaurant that gets everything right, but Avenue Pub comes very close. If you're anywhere near Orange Beach, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely be back.
