We decided to give this place a try after enjoying it under the previous ownership. The interior looks almost exactly the same as before. One thing that stood out was the gift shop at the entrance--it could definitely use a refresh. The dark corner filled with outdated beach clothing isn't the best first impression. We visited on a Tuesday around 7:00 p.m., and there was no wait. During our meal, only about four tables were occupied, so it was very quiet. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and checked on us frequently. The only odd part of the atmosphere was that cartoons were playing on the bar TVs even though there weren't any kids in the restaurant. For dinner, my husband ordered the surf and turf, and his steak was cooked perfectly. The baked potato, however, came with an overwhelming amount of melted cheese--enough for several potatoes. I ordered the blackened grouper. It was cooked well and had good flavor, but the fillet was very thin and wasn't as memorable as other grouper dishes I've had. The whipped sweet potatoes were sweeter than expected from the brown sugar, and the Brussels sprouts were heavily coated in a sweet balsamic glaze, leaving them soft instead of crispy. I think both sides would be better with less added sweetness to let the natural flavors shine. We finished with the Bananas Foster, which was delicious and a fun presentation. It came with three small scoops of vanilla ice cream and half a banana. Since the flaming presentation takes a little time, larger scoops of ice cream would hold up better and not be half melted by the time the fire goes out. We would come back to avoid wait at other restaurants but would try different side dishes next time. read more

To me this would be 4 stars or really 5. But I'm emotional because my left overs got tossed My daughter and I just moved here this week and every restaurant is SLAMMED. Like it's almost insane. I work in mobile so I'm already crabby for the one hour and twenty minute drive to and from there. I told my daughter I'd take her out to eat. We came here. To my surprise- not many people at all. The bartender was our server she was incredibly tentative and nice. We ordered crab dip 7/10. I would like to see it paired with chips instead of bread stick. I got the catch of the day with a loaded baked potato and side salad which that to me was a 8.5/10. I was so full and so excited for my left overs. The manager was checking on every one and offered my daughter fish food. At this point I have paid and we went to go feed the fish and when we came back everything on the table was gone. My bill was 92 which might be normal for 2 people here I'm not too sure yet. But I was so disappointed. My daughter said it was the best butter noodles she ever had and she ate up the bread. read more

We chose The Pelican Grill for a nice dinner on our first night in Orange Beach while visiting our son, who is stationed at the nearby Navy base. Unfortunately, the entire experience was disappointing from beginning to end. We had a reservation and checked in on time. After being seated on the patio, I oddly received a notification that my reservation had been canceled. It wasn't a major issue, but it was a strange start to the evening. When we were seated, our table had no utensils, napkins, or place settings. We also had no salt and pepper on the table. We ordered drinks and appetizers, and I also ordered a salad with my entrée. Our appetizers arrived, but we still had no plates, utensils, or napkins. After waiting several minutes, I finally had to go inside and find someone to bring us what we needed so we could actually eat. I also had to ask a food runner for salt and pepper. The shakers that were brought to our table were visibly dirty and grimy. I felt compelled to wipe them down before using them, which was very off-putting. The pacing of the meal was equally disappointing. About three minutes after the appetizers arrived, my salad was delivered. Three minutes later, our entrées came out. Everything felt rushed instead of being paced for an enjoyable dinner. The food itself was very inconsistent. The calamari was so tough that it was nearly impossible to bite through--it had the texture of rubber bands. I ordered the stuffed shrimp expecting fresh Gulf shrimp, but instead received very small, butterflied shrimp that appeared to be made to look larger. The stuffing was essentially wet, flavorless bread with no detectable crab, despite being advertised as crab stuffing. The menu also listed a beurre blanc lemon sauce, but none was served. Service continued to fall short throughout the meal. Our server never checked to see if we wanted another round of drinks, never offered dessert, and never asked if we'd like boxes for the large amount of uneaten food left on the table. Instead, the check was simply brought to us. To be fair, my husband's steak was very good, and our son's burger was also good. However, considering we're on the Gulf Coast, I expected much better seafood. The shrimp were surprisingly small, and the stuffing was bland and disappointing. Overall, this was not the relaxing, quality dinner we were hoping for to begin our visit. Between the poor timing, inattentive service, the lack of attention to basic table setup and cleanliness, and disappointing seafood, the experience simply did not live up to expectations. read more

Great place for a good meal! This restaurant is a must when you're in the area! The service was great and the food was excellent! We started off with the Crab Melt, which is a crab cake with grilled tomatoes and cheese on sourdough. Delicious We moved on to Oysters Rockefeller (spinach, onions, bacon and cheese) Excellent! Next time I'm trying the Fresno Tequila and The Garlic Parmesan Oysters! Next, the Wife got the Grouper fillet and I got the Lobster Mac-N-Cheese. It comes with a lobster tail! We came in about 5:30pm and were happy to find no wait time. Our server was very nice and informative about the menu! We started with the shrimp and crab dip which may have been the best bite of our entire vacation! If you go you MUST get the dip, it is so worth it! I got the mahi mahi and while the flavor was very tasty, it was overcooked. It's a bummer as I look forward to the fresh seafood on our trips down here. It ended up being tough. However, the brussels sprouts were the best I have ever had! The grits were also wonderful. My husband got the all you can eat snow crab and he was very pleased! They do not have a sign on the main highway so look for Louisiana Lagniappe and they're below them. I read up a little before we went and Dominic was our waiter. Very busy guy but handled it very well. Really like the fishing decoration as it definitely hit home with the them. What can I say about the food......... amazing! In need of dinner and Pelican Grill was fairly close to us. There is parking along side of the building/water, but it was pretty full and the spots are a bit tight. The restaurant was busy, but we didn't have to wait. We were seated in a side room. All the other guests in that area finished were their before us and left before we got our food. It felt a little like we were in timeout. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese (3/5), and the chicken breast blackened (4/5) with fries (2/5). The vibe of the meal was "good, but overrated". Three of us split two meals and had two drinks and yet out bill still seemed to be approaching $80 - crazy business. read more

DONT Eat here- had to get that out in the first sentence. First of all there's entirely too many options on the Gulf Coast to settle for anything less than good. This had to be the worst place I've eaten at since I have been here in the past 30 years. First of all when the waiter comes over and lets you know that "he's training a new person" I should've known right away- Service was gonna suck, because it did. Secondly, when the appetizer was cold in the middle and had no flavor then why would I expect the entrées to be any good either? The stuffed shrimp was either pre-frozen or just that bad. It tasted like a freezer burn on the shrimp, overcooked and cold. The lobster mac & cheese, lacked lobster. It was mac & cheese for $10. The whipped sweet potatoes were OK but were cold in the middle. The fried shrimp was decent, the french fries were not. Overall, I would never go back to this place again, it was a terrible experience from the service to the food. The place was completely empty with the exception of four tables. There were four weight staff, but yet everyone from every table had to go to the bar to ask for something. When you bring somebody french fries with their meal, they shouldn't have to go to the bar to ask for ketchup. When you bring somebody fried shrimp, you shouldn't have to go to the bar to ask for cocktail sauce. It's not just the little things that matter when you go out to eat, I can get crappy service at home, it's everything that I shouldn't have to do but had to do while I was paying someone to do it for me. This was the first restaurant experience we've ever had. Took 30 minutes to seat us and then another 30 minutes for anyone to talk to us. We were sitting there for an hour before someone took our order. Wait staff was rude, all they did was complain about their situation when we asked for help, and on top of everything my fiancé got food poisoning from the very meal that took us 2 hours to get once we were seated. These two stars are because our server, (nick!!!! )was so kind and apologetic and I really felt for him. I've been a server and it sucks and none of the experience was really his fault bc he was in the weeds so bad. my parents RAVED about this place so we all came on our vacation! we made reservations, and we did immediately get sat, but after we got sat, no one came to our table until one of us flagged down a host. Our table and the other party outside had not been seen yet. Once we did see our server, we ordered drinks, app, and dinner all at once. our drinks (including waters) did not arrive until our food arrived. Two of us ordered frozen drinks and when they arrived they were melted. For food, mine and my brother's plates did not come until about 15 mins after everyone else's. (Again, after flagging down someone up front to tell them we were missing food). The worst part of this experience was the manager. - that's what this review is mainly about. We asked to speak with the manager to explain that we felt like we shouldn't pay 350$ for this experience we made reservations for, but more so to let him know that this was not acceptable and that we love this place and were very disappointed. The manager comes out and doesn't care at all about our experience. We are explaining the experience (the other table outside is agreeing loudly with us) and he's blankly staring at us, and says nothing. No apologies, no explanation. All he said was "I'll look at your ticket" and walks away. The food was amazing, but the service could not possibly be good because one server was running the whole restaurant and bar without the managers help. As we left, I heard another customer complaining about the server right in front of him and I looked around and realized he was the ONLY server working AND there was no bartender. Yes, service was bad but food was good. But I'm not going to blame the only server for doing his best. He was very apologetic about everything (even about the manager). Disclaimer, they were short staffed and Baron our waiter did his best under the circumstances. We waited almost 2 hours for our food and it was only okay. The shrimp Alfredo was more like gravy than a typical sauce and was so hot from sitting under what I assume was a lamp for a lengthy amount of time. Garlic parm oysters! Or, as I call them, ghost oysters. They were so tiny and overcooked, I thought they accidentally brought us an empty tray of shells. However, the mahi-mahi portion was fit for a king...if that king was an Oompa Loompa...and had bypass surgery. It also had a suspiciously metallic tang--like licking a battery. Same for the shrimp. "Shocking" right? The grilled grouper rounded out the meal like a salt lick served on a flip-flop. Chewy, salty, and sad. To her credit, Marilyn the owner did try to argue with us at first. But then--bless her heart--she seemed to realize the situation was beyond salvaging and comped most of the meal. A kind gesture, considering the original bill was set to be $350... for six people drinking tea. Marilyn was genuinely sweet. What an amazing find. We love eating local and this place did not disappoint. Seating out on the deck was exceptional. Quiet, and secluded but right on the water. The food was amazing. We started with the oyster Rockefeller. I had the stuffed shrimp with rice and veggie. All of it was flavorful and tasty. My wife had the grouper. It and the Brussels sprouts were fantastic. She wasn't thrilled about the risotto. Over all, a great local place with the service you expect from locals. Definitely not a tourist trap. Worth the visit. Worst experience and restaurant on the beach... Waffle House has better food.. Tuna nachos had so much potential until the tuna was still frozen and our server informed us it comes in frozen, it's not fresh nor locally sourced. "Only their oysters are local seafood" everything else comes in frozen.. After waiting almost an hour for our frozen tuna nachos, there was no point in even ordering entrees.. You're a Gulf beach restaurant that's crazy!! Brought it up to the "supposed owner, who was wearing flip flops coming out of the kitchen... his advice was go somewhere else next time then... The health department needs to take a good look at this place, they were smoking out on the patio... food and server was terrible.. place is way over priced.. so many other great places... read more

Me and my husband were having a date night and we had seen this place advertised by plane earlier in the day. We sat outside by the docks which was a good setup, however the vibe in this place was completely off. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and house oysters for appetizers which were good however the crawfish on the fried green tomatoes were bland and could be left off imo. When we got our entrees, we were asked to pay the bill. I've never been asked to pay the bill before we even ate which I found extremely rude. I asked my husband if we looked poor or something. Then we never received silverware. The steak was bland and the mac and cheese was mushy and over cooked. The prices were extremely high for the food we received. I never got my breadstick with my mac and cheese either. I'm not sure what the deal was but we felt extremely rushed and unwelcomed. I wouldn't recommend eating here and I can guarantee we won't be back. read more

Had reservations on sept 19th at 730 pm. First they didn't haven't the reservation but they did accommodate after a couple mins. Knowing they had a big party of 50 they sat us down and we waited15 mins just for drinks. After ordering waited 45 more mins and never received appetizers or any food at all. Everyone else was complaining they were there for 2 and a half hours with no service. Bad management skills or simply poorly staff to accommodate. read more

Great service!! The food was freshly made. The special app was crab stuffed jalapeño poppers and they were amazing. Crab legs were meaty, tender and fresh.
