I went into anaphylactic shock for the first time late at night. I managed to drive myself to their ER but by the time I got there I could barely breathe and could not talk. I handed the admission lady my purse, she asked if she could get my info out of it, they put me in a chair and must have gotten me back on a stretcher and started giving epi I guess. They were getting ready to intubate but I guess the swelling had started to go down. They literally saved my life with their quick actions. I was admitted to ICU that night in case it came back. So we are in Pensacola temporarily while getting these houses renovated before we move on to the next town and HubbyStanks ends up needing surgery. I wasn't happy that his doctor booked him all the way in Gulf Breeze when we live in Pensacola (really not far in comparison to any distance in Tampa). However, so glad they did. This is THE best hospital experience HubbyStanks and I have had. This hospital is a part of Baptist Health which I'm quite impressed with. This is a newer hospital in a great part of Greater P'cola. As a wife trying to be there for her husband I was taken great care of as well. The cafeteria is awesome serving freshly made, close to gourmet meals at a reasonable price. As a foodie this means a lot. What I'm even more impressed with is the Coffee Shop. They serve Starbucks, but they have EVERY flavor you can't get at Starbuck corporate! I've been pissed that I can't get my Toffee Nut Mochas and I got it here. I got it with Oat Milk and they made it better than Starbucks corporate! The chips and fresh fruit and salads sold at the coffee shop are amazing...so amazing that when I'm on my way to Pensacola Beach I have vowed to stop in during open hours to get salads and coffee! So, the staff at this hospital are amazing. Bedside manner is perfect. My husband was well taken care of. I keep trying to see if my appointments and doctors will be booked here but I haven't been that lucky. The other Baptist Hospitals in Pensacola just aren't up to par with Gulf Breeze Hospital. read more

I had been transferred to Gulf Breeze Hospital for an 8mm kidney stone, kidney infection and UTI-the staff the entire time I stayed was nothing short of kind, attentive, and made sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. Their job is a lot of work, but they always came in to see me with a smile and prioritized me and my care. They even addressed medical issues I've been having issues with for years to make sure I'd get the full care needed. Several years ago a Doctor who was employed by Andrews Inst. and given operating privileges at Gulf Breeze Hospital almost killed me. This doctor error occurred when a doctor fresh back from Drug Rehab , was allowed to operate on me, a daring ablation, (burning of the neck nerves) he was excited about since he was going for two separate nerves, unknown to me, it is ousted standard operating procedures, as only one nerve is done per out patient surgery appointment. a 6 week wait time is normal for the next ablation. This doctor caused me to go into a grand male seizure in which i almost died. The recovery room was so scared of my appearance, they rushed me into my husbands waiting car, before I had a opportunity to recover from the seizure, I was rushed out, as the nurse told my husband " we almost lost her in there" Further evaluation of the operating notes by other highly qualified physicians, told me two ablations done on the neck at the same time should never be attempted. This doctor was fired by Andrews institute within months, as I wrote to Chief of Surgery, Andrews institute, and Risk Management at Baptist. My visits to Risk Management was met by rude denials and that since they had fired the doctor in question, they had no responsibility for my near death experience of dying or being a vegetable the rest of my life. Doctors cover up other doctor mistakes. Risk Management protects them. The patient is no one, unless he has big pockets to sue immediately, and fight the BIG HOSPITAL RISK MANAGEMENT TEAM. read more

I went to Gulf Breeze Hospital because it was the closest emergency room. I had autonomic dysreflexia. I am a paraplegic. They didn't know what it was. They found I had congestive heart failure. Fluid on my lungs and heart. That was causing the AD. It kills quadratics. It almost killed me. My blood pressure went to 250/140. I needed IV Valium or morphine. When I was out of ICU and moved to the floor it was loud and noisy. I was not turned every 2 hours as instructed. When I had a bout of AD they would tell me I was disturbing the other patients. I could not breathe when this happened. All the muscles below my nipple line (T6) would tighten and not let go for 2 hours. It was the 10 days of my life. I had 7 bouts of autonomic dysreflexia while in that hospital with no help from the floor nurses. I found out why it got worse. They left me in my urine and stool for 6.5 hours. It caused serious decubitus ulcers. I will never go there again. I had to go back after they released me. I had another AD attack at home. My wife insisted that I go Baptist hospital in Pensacola. They argued with her but she won. I'm sure glad they took me there. I guess another law suit will be coming their way!! read more

My friend who's disabled and I called ahead to ensure that the hospital could send out MRI scans out of state and they confirmed that it was possible. We got there and walked through the main entrance with no one there for us to ask questions about where to go, the only thing they had was a blue telephone with a sign that said, "Use the blue telephone to ask us a question." My friend used the blue telephone to ask whoever was on the other line where we should go, the lady was rude and wasn't listening to what my friend was saying, and instead of informing us of where to go to send out the MRI scans, she told us someone would be there soon. My friend and I waited for about 30 minutes for someone to come and no one did except for the nice barista lady who was the most helpful person in this encounter. She led us to an administration office where another lady directed us to the Outpatient section but told us to wait in the hallway because she wasn't sure if they could send out MRI scans. We were able to finally sign some paperwork to get the process started but in the end, what should've taken less than 10 minutes was turned into a 45-minute waste of our time. This entire process was disorganized and I urge them to do better in the future. read more

had outpatient surgery on 9/27/23 with Dr Mai. Wonderful preop care with constant attention and I dont remember anything after the surgery which is even better! On February 5 I was admitted to GBH for elective cervical disc replacement & cervical fusion ACDF. I just can't say enough about how well I was cared for from start to finish. I've been using Gulf Breeze Hospital for well over twenty years and it's just the best of the best, bar none. Dr. Mark Giovanini has done three surgeries on me over the past 15 years and he's absolutely the best at what he does. During this past issue I suffered for two years four months with chronic neck pain causing numbness, tingling, and pain jolting through my arms, post surgery my neck feels 100% better, and I haven't lost feeling in my hands, no more tingling, no more jolts of pain. Other than the aches of post surgical pain I feel great and suspect I'll continue to improve, I feel like I have a new neck. I can't Thank the staff at GBH enough, from Tammy who started my IV, to the pre op staff that joined in prayer with my son before they took me to surgery, to Kristi M, RN in post op she was wonderful very kind, kept me out of severe pain no breakthrough pain. I just love Michael D., NPrac just a great guy, I just wanna take him home, he's a gem. I was in Room 219 & Lori RN my daytime nurse was very very nice kept me informed and comfortable, very sweet RN. My Physical therapist was great- Cameron very informative and super nice. We laughed and just built a rapport. My Nighttime RN- Stephanie was so sweet, she found me sherbet to soothe my throat, and last but not least Dr. Gio what a fantastic neurosurgeon and sweetheart, he has the best bedside manners and was very attentive to my concerns and questions. Peeps don't settle for good, settle for greatness, go to the best of the best Gulf Breeze Hospital. I had fallen heavily onto one knee and within a few days my knee had swollen enough to resemble a head of cauliflower. It was full of fluid which had formed a sac that hung from the top of my kneecap and down. It was very uncomfortable. A large and deep bruise formed. My kneecap and surrounding bones felt bruised. I thought it best to have a doctor look at it. We headed to this hospital we as it was recommended by two ERs who told me that they would not treat me. After many hours of waiting in a small changing room, I had seen no one. The ER was not busy and finally I got dressed to look for help. I found several staff members chatting and asked for help. No one said a word. I stated I needed to leave to rest this knee. No response. I had a friend nearby (we were vacationing) who recommended an orthopedic specialist. She drained out of the knee 888 cm of blood. Wrapped and armed with care instructions I left. It has been over 8 weeks since the fall and the knee is still healing. These things take time. I have never been refused treatment at an ER. I wasn't dying and treatment was needed. No one was particularly friendly. I had an X-ray from another ER that showed no breaks but I seriously injured the area. I needed help and could not find any here. read more

We arrived at 10 p.m. on a Thursday evening because my daughter was having severe back pain and shortness of breath. We checked in and were seen by an extremely rude triage nurse, who after taking my daughter's vitals, told us to have a seat back in the waiting room, that there was "quite a wait." After almost 2 hours, of NO ONE being called back, I asked the receptionist who checked us in if she knew approximately what the, "quite a wait" time frame might be and I was informed that ALL the ER beds were full, because there were patients who were waiting to be discharged and or admitted/transferred to a bed upstairs and that unfortunately, there was only one doctor working. What? Are you seriously telling me there is ONLY ONE doctor working in the emergency room? It's been nearly 4 hours and we've STILL not been called back to be seen. When severe back pain with shortness of breath - meaning she is having trouble breathing- isn't a priority there's a problem. Funny, when you enter the ER area there is a huge sign stating that Gulf Breeze is the area's only 5 star hospital. After tonights visit, I find that utterly laughable. read more

I have never written anything bad about hospitals or doctors, but this is an acceptation. I contracted covid and was taken to the ER at the Gulf Breeze hospital in January (2022) with breathing problems and severe congestion. They did nothing to help me- I laid on the ER bed for 4 hours and the doctor came in to inform me I had covid (I knew that already and previously informed them I tested positive), and said there was nothing he could do. No medication, treatment, or anything. My wife took me back home. And I was billed for $2,723. Unbelievable. Would YOU trust that kind of treatment with your loved ones or yourself? My advise, avoid that hospital. Cross the bridge and go somewhere else . I went to Ascension hospital in Pensacola that day and they were fantastic. They treated me with medications needed to help my situation and I got better. read more

I have had 2 surgeries and several out patient procedures at Gulf Breeze Hospital, only with 1 admission. I have been extremely pleased with them. Wait times were not excessive, nurses were kind and personable, anesthesiologists, etc were friendly and explained things clearly. I live in Pace and prefer to come to Gulf Breeze Hospital for my care. I have had bad experiences elsewhere, incorrect ER diagnoses, bad xrays, etc. My opinion is they are an excellent facility. read more

Most times I have been blessed to have insurance, I have found my treatment has been the same with or without.. I have been in this room for 2 hours and the doctor still hasn't been in nor did anyone ever come get my urine sample. Long personal read about my experience at Gulf Breeze Emergency Room- But an important message for those that may need emergency treatment. So, Monday marks 3 days post op and I was doing well! I had Achilles Tendon repair surgery, the surgeon also shaved down and reshaped my heel bone, removed the fractured bone spur, removed the excess calcium and scar tissue from where it tore, and elongated my calf muscle. All was going well Until I fell off of this knee scooter. My daughter called the surgeon, and he asked us to go in to Baptist hospital ER in Gulf breeze to have the incisions checked. I used to appreciate the professionalism and the compassion that this ER had. But last night was an entirely different story. The admitting staff were great, the triage nurse was also kind and considerate. But as soon as I was taken back to a room things changed. The nurse practitioner that came in first, took the splint and the dressings off. I told her that my surgeon wanted a doctor to look at the incision and to call him with an update. I told her who he was, and that I had the surgery right there at Gulf Breeze Baptist Hospital. She asked if I had his cell phone number. What?? No, I don't have his cell phone number.. the surgery was done at the same hospital. He is an Andrews institute doctor affiliated with Baptist hospital, and she told me she doesn't know how to reach him, has no number for him, and asked me twice more if I had his cell number. So she called the doctor on call instead. I had not torn any of the stitches in either incision, but a couple of them did bleed a little. No big deal, I was grateful it wasn't worse. The saying "it's all down hill from there" rings true. Next comes another nurse..rude, impatient, zero bedside manner, and acted as though I was wasting her time. Mind you, the Er was NOT busy. The waiting room was empty and the back was quiet. This female nurse grabbed ahold of my Achilles' tendon area on top of the surgical incision and squeezed directly on it to turn my leg. Why?! Who does that?! There was no need to squeeze like that, much less touch that area! It caused an intense amount of searing pain not to mention tears! Those that know me know that I'm not one to cry. I can handle a lot. But this? No, not this. She fudged up the so called splint she put on, used only one layer of thin wrap as a barrier between my incision and the plaster (I had asked her to use a thick layer of padding so it wouldn't feel like plaster rubbing on skin) but she ignored me. She couldn't get the bandages to stay in place and instead of asking for help, gripped the incision areas again while wrapping my leg. She wrapped the ace wraps sloppy and loose so there was NO support. I was miserable from the pain she caused from squeezing my surgery site. My daughter asked if I could be given anything to ease the pain, when another person came in and handed paperwork over, she said with an attitude "well you've already been discharged so that would mean we would have to put you back into the system again." I had to ask for another ace wrap to secure the splint because it kept moving and instead of getting a clean one, she huffed said "sure, we will just re-use this old one." She couldn't get me out the door fast enough. A doctor never walked through the door, as requested by the surgeon. She left and I heard her talking about me and laughing outside the door as I was getting ready to leave. Never have I had an experience like this with a Baptist hospital branch. What happened to "do no harm"?? I've read through the Baptist Hospital Code of conduct, I've read through the morals and values you "follow", I've read through the goals and aspirations. Baptist Hospital Gulf Breeze Emergency Department, you And your staff FAILED. After my experience, and after reading many reports from others who have been "treated" by this emergency department, if you are in need of emergency room care- save yourself pain, frustration, humiliation and poor treatment by those who are there to "help" you, and make this place your very last option. read more

These ppl are only nice to acute patients who do not have a chronic condition. The doctor and nurses are rude and pass judgement fast! They assume what they want and never listen to the patient and think I am inferior to them! I have been to hospitals in other states with my condition and they alway treated me well and was never prejudice. I went to ER. I was asked twice if I might be pregnant I said no. I was put in a room with blood on the floor on the garbage can and all over the bed rails. It smelled like death in there. I asked could it be sprayed or cleaned. Nurse changed my room. She said she works in the ER and she's use to smells. I was seen by the doctor originally before a nurse ever came in. Before I left he came in before nurse ever came back. He unhooked fluids so I could go to the restroom. When I received an explanation of my bill I was charged 193.00 for a pregnancy test. I have been going through menopause for years and told them I couldn't be pregnant. They charged me over a hug dried dollars for a full drug screen three ivbags which I had one. 1700 for level 4 emergency when the doctor already said it so Des like vertigo. 3700.00 for CT scan. 6400.00 later im extremely passed especially for being put in a bloody room!! read more

Worst ER I have ever been to. Made the mistake of going two different times, two years apart, still poor care. The physician that saw me never reviewed any of my lab results with me or even came back to talk to me before the nurse came in with my discharge paperwork. I had a kidney stone and had been unable to pass it for two weeks. They wouldn't listen to me, just wanted to give me scripts for narcotics. I ended up in another ER two days later and had emergency surgery. I had been an employee of Baptist for many years and always thought they provided the best care. Not the case at Gulf Breeze ER. The other Baptist facilities I have been to have always been wonderful EXCEPT Gulf Breeze. Just pass them by and go straight to big Baptist in Pensacola. It will be worth the extra drive. You can bet I will get a nice, over priced bill though for this horrible service. read more

My husband was a patient in the Gulf Breeze hospital. We had a very good experience. The staff was super nice and very attentive from the ER to the floor admission and nursing care. It was easy to get in touch with the nurses and the techs and they were in the room usually within 5 minutes. It sometimes took 15 minutes if they were in another patient's room or in an emergency but they always let us know when they would be delayed. Also the hospitalist Doctor was great. She kept us up to date on everything and made the care seamless and efficient. We would go back there if we ever need it with no hesitation. read more

If I could rate the Gulf Breeze ER, it would be a zero! I have had 15 surgeries on my foot from a car accident in 2015 and it just so happened that the ambulance took me to Baptist because it was the closest hospital. So Baptist has all my records over 2 years from my ankle. I went to the ER this week and I was treated like a 2nd class citizen, a druggie. My ankle was swollen and red and hurting and I went to the ER from instructions from my Orthopedic surgeon. There wasn't many people there when I got there, maybe 4. I sat there for 1 hour before they took me back to get my vitals - telling the woman that I was a 10+ in pain but the reason I was there was to find out what was going on with my ankle. Instead of trying to get me out of pain and diagnose my problem the were very condescending to me and kept trying to throw Lortab at me, which I cannot take. I didn't go there to get drugs - however to get out of pain, something other than Lortab would've been nice. So they set me back out in the waiting area for 3 more hours. There was a poor guy out there that had been laying on the floor sick for at least 4 hours. All they kept telling me is that "we have 18 ppl ahead of you". This hospital has THE WORST ER staff ever. The nurses are in the wrong field, a nurse is suppose to care - they don't care. The 2 young boys upfront were sitting around chit chatting, giggling and laughing as I was talking the the PA, who was rude as well. I will NEVER EVER go back to this ER. They could care less if you are in pain, dying, having a heart - attack or anything for that matter. They just don't care!! read more

Avoid this place! I came to the emergency room unable to pass urine due to a prostate infection. I had to pee extremely bad but couldn't. This was very painful and was only getting worse with time. After checking in, they told me to wait in the waiting room until they called for me. I had no idea that would take 25 minutes even though only 2 other people were also waiting. After being called, they put me in an exam room where I had to wait another 15 minutes before the doctor came in. By this time I felt like I was going to explode and made that very clear to the doctor. He told me they would have to first do an ultrasound to verify my problem as if they didn't believe me. After about 15 more minutes the ultrasound tech hadn't arrived so I walked out of the room and screamed at the nurse for them to hurry up. The tech finally came in and after reading the ultrasound results, he said I had one of the fullest bladder readings he had ever seen, just as I was trying to tell them. So after waiting about 90 total minutes, I finally had a catheter put in which gave me needed relief. With only 2 other patients, this was a ridiculous amount of time to wait while in pain in the emergency room. If you're expecting to be taken well cared for, read the other reviews of this place and go somewhere else. read more

Third time this week with my daughter's intractable migraine. Let me start off by saying the nursing staff is amazing! They have all been very helpful and compassionate. However, on our first trip, the doctor didn't even touch her. Just stood at the foot of her bed and went with my diagnosis of migraine. She was given Benadryl and a pain medicine and sent packing. The doctor didn't even see her again after she was treated. She got home, slept off the medicine and the migraine type pain came right back. After no relief from anything otc or her rx migraine medicine (and now vomiting on top of everything), we headed back to the er. The dr we had the second night was amazing. Seriously so compassionate. She was given Benadryl, Zofran, and a steroid. He did follow up to see how she was. She slept that medicine off and woke up with worsening migraine pain and increased vomiting. Back to the er after no relief from anything. Clearly they don't have a working triage system because the child who is puking in the lobby, writhing in pain, and hyperventilating is not triaged before the woman with the ankle injury, laughing it up, having a fun time in the lobby. I asked twice what the hold up was. No one could give me an answer. We finally get back and after waiting well over an hour, the rudest, most condescending NP comes in. I had to stop her mid assessment because she was being so incredibly condescending. My 13 year old who was writhing in pain could even tell how condescending she was being. She was asking social questions completely irrelevant to the reason we were there. She asked how long she's had migraines. I explained "about a year now". She said "WHEN did they start? THINK ABOUT IT!" At this point, I asked for a different provider and she denied that she was being so condescending (but she was) and as she left the room she said "Wow!". VERY professional, huh???? I immediately got in touch with the house supervisor who was very compassionate and apologetic. The rude NP came back in when I demanded my daughter's iv be removed because the fluids she had been given had run dry and still no treatment from the dr. She went back and forth with me about staying and I said I was taking my child somewhere where the staff was less condescending. She stopped in her tracks and in a smart tone said "maam, you won't allow me to apologize to you?" And before I could respond she turned and walked out of the room. Rudest. Jerk. Ever. The house supervisor said she would talk to the er manager. I can't wait to hear from them. I will be relaying this message again to that person. And for all of our future care, we will be going elsewhere. read more

BEWARE! Baptist Hospital ER contracts their ER physicians and you will get a bill from the contractor regardless of what your insurance company says your ER co-pay will be. I have Cigna-HealthSprings and they stonewalled me when I complained that their policy says a $75 co-pay for the ER but after paying $75 to Baptist, I received another $75 from the ER physician. This additional charge was not disclosed by the insurance company, Baptist, or the ER physician. So, be prepared if you use Baptist ER, your co-pay is not your co-pay at Baptist. read more

I will join other reviewers here to warn people from going to this hospital. The standard of care is horrid, especially in the emergency room. Firemen and EMS people worked for 3 hours very hard to get me to the hospital after a fall. I was in excruciating pain. They gave me the maximum 10 doses of morphine and it might as well have been water. They gave me another dose of something in the hospital. I almost passed out trying to stand to get X-rays. My shoulder/arm was broken and displaced. It was a Friday night. They did nothing to talk to my doctor or call the surgeon recommended. I begged him to keep me in the hospital and repair the arm or at least send me to a facility who could take care of my till it could be repaired. The ER doctor simply said "We don't admit people for broken arms.". I asked the nurse if I could at least see the X-rays so I would know where the break was to know how best to care for it myself. She returned to say their printer was malfunctioning. I asked if I could look over her shoulder at a computer and her snotty reply was "This is an emergency room. We're just a little busy!" They simply put me in a flimsy sling and forced me to go home. I spent 5 days in agony, even with pain pills, before finally arranging to get surgery. I had to go back to the hospital in the same clothes, cut up by the fire department, because I had no way of dressing or undressing or cleaning myself. The ordeal was traumatizing. The nurse who prepared me for the operation said "I'm going to get our special camera and take photos of the bruising on your arm." (The arm was black by that time.) I said "That's a great idea. Can I have a copy?" She said snippy "NO. That is for the hospital Only." I said nicely "Oh, ok. I brought my cell phone. Could you maybe take a picture with that?" She turned on her heel and said "NO. I will NOT do that." She returned a few minutes later and said "I've decided NOT to take the pictures." I have no idea what prompted all that. In the operation they had to put a plate and 8 screws in to repair the break and hold all the pieces together. After the operation, somehow the orderlies or nurses managed to pull the block out of my shoulder that was supposed to supply pain medication for 3 days. It took 6 hours to bring me a throat lozenge for my sore throat from the tubes. They used a "hat" to catch my urine and feces, but didn't clean it in between. I had to try to clean it myself with one hand so I wouldn't have to sit on filth. All but one of the food staff just dropped trays and left me to try to deal with opening things and cutting food with one hand. The hospital administrator was no help and ended up fobbing me off to a young know-nothing who wrote a followup letter full of errors and outright lies. They said this was their standard level of care for breaks...no care..and that it is up to the patient to make arrangements with a doctor for repairs. The administrator said the ER doctor told her that I had told him I was only at a pain level of 3. That was a bold lie too, since I told him I was a 9 and the only reason I didn't say a 10, was I figured that meant my arm had come off. Since then I've heard from many people with horror stories of their own from their trips to the Gulf Breeze Hospital ER. Including one who had a friend who was a nurse at the hospital who said she would never have her family or friends go to that ER or hospital. If you have a choice, go to some other hospital. This is the worst hospital in our entire region. I went there a month after recovering from brain surgery unable to walk on my affected left side and physican writes edema as diagnosis. The emergency room physician never examined me, said uh, uh, right at least 20 times as I relayed my story, and the ultrasound technician was on a personal call on her cell the entire time she did her test on me. I'm fully insured but insurance company will not cover a high school diagnosis of edema. After 6 months of runaround sending me downtown to their business office and told to go to my physician to get letter to provide diagnosis which I did, I receive collection notice for full amount of er visit. Definitely going to an attorney. Travel the extra distance and go to Sacred Heart! read more
