What can I say that hasn't already been said? The service is very slow and since it has been in reviews for years, it is not something that the management feels is a problem. Service can be fixed if they want to fix it. Our waitress was pleasant but not that busy or attentive. My sisters ordered water and I ordered a beer. She wasn't sure what was on tap. That is whole other story, don't get me started. The beer came in an average amount of time, but after 45 minutes, I went to the bar and asked if we could get some water. Maybe they feel that since it is a tourist town, they don't have to impress anyone and it is obvious, they don't care about their reviews. We checked Yelp because we were deciding between 2 restaurant in the area. They both had low ratings. Sometimes I second guess Yelp but I learned my lesson now. read more

Stopped here for dinner. The service was terrible. We waited 20 minutes to be greeted by the server, placed a drink order, then waited another 20 to order dinner. Entrees were delivered 45 minutes later. I ordered a drink at that time and didn't receive it for another 40 minutes. I ordered the sirloin salad, medium. It was definitely well done. I was staying nearby for the weekend as a birthday present from my husband and we were searching for a place by the water to enjoy a good cocktail or two and a meal... The inside dining room was closed but the patio had lots of tables for outside dining which was fine! It appears that they tried to crowd a lot of tables in the dining area because it was a little hard to walk around between the tables. Cantilever umbrellas were set up all throughout the dining area to shelter people from the sun, which was great, but the bases of the umbrellas were a trip and fall hazard frankly . We decided to order mojitos, and then placed our food order. I am big on well-balanced cocktails made with natural ingredients, but when the mojitos arrived I noticed there were no lime pieces in the glass, as is typical of a traditional mojito. I took the first sip and the sweetness was completely overpowering. It was obvious that they had used mint leaves AND mint flavored simple syrup, and there was no trace of club soda whatsoever. I could not taste any rum. It tasted like we were eating a pack of spearmint chewing gum... The server also forgot to bring us water that we ordered so I couldn't even wash my mouth out to get rid of the sugary taste. We did catch her and ask for water and I also asked for club soda so that we could add to the drinks. She did bring us the club soda but it did not even cut the sweetness of the drink. I had a grouper sandwich with coleslaw and my friend had a Reuben with fries. Her Reuben was very tasty and she said the fries were good, my grouper was just OK... And it had a lot of coleslaw juice on it so it was very messy to eat and the ciabatta bun was just entirely too much bread. At one point it appeared the manager was walking around and putting all the umbrellas down, because there appeared to be a couple of gusts of wind that she was worried about. Fortunately the sun was starting to get lower in the so but it was still very hot and we were sweating . Overall I was not impressed with the experience, and I had really been looking forward to just sitting down and having a nice cocktail and enjoying the weather but this place completely fell flat for me. The server was very sweet but it appeared that she had too many tables to serve, because she could not give us the attention I felt was deserved. I would not dine here again. We sat on the patio. The band was very good, a funky, blues combo. It was a much better group than I expected to find in such a remote location. We started with a couple nice moitos which were made with very fresh mint. I had the Bourbon Salmon and my wife had the Michigan Lake Perch, both were excellent. The salmon had quite a bit if sweet sauce but the fish was cooked perfectly. I choose the "vegetables" as my side. It was a huge pile of nice cooked baby carrots. My wife choose the red skin potatoes as her side which were perfectly cooked. Five stars for the music and setting. Four stars for the food and drinks. Three for the service because we had to wait a least 5 minutes to order our first round of drinks. read more

Ended up at the Gull last night after intending to go to the place across the street. The place across the street had one of those asinine "people don't want to work" signs to explain why they can't keep staff at a pitiful wage, so they've lost us as customers forever. And I am so glad! We walked over to the Gull, put our name on the waitlist, and 30 minutes later we were sitting outside with front and center seats to what turned out to be an incredible jazz/Harlem/swing band, Planet D Nonet, from Detroit. We had no idea there would be live music and we would have missed it all had it not been for that ridiculous sign across the street. Our server, Stacy, was wonderfully attentive, especially considering the full house, and our food was very good. I had the bourbon salmon, my husband had the perch, the peel & eat shrimp was an excellent appetizer, and we enjoyed a piece of turtle cheesecake, too. We expected a typical dinner out & instead had a fantastic time with great food and amazing entertainment. We will now look to go to the Gull on live music nights because it was the best time we've had in quite awhile. read more

I've been a patron of Gull Landing for at least 13 years. In the space of that time it has gone through at least two owners. While the ownership has changed the product has not. There have been some modifications to the dining room as the salad bar has been removed to allow a liquor bar and some additional seating but not much else has changed. And that's not a good thing. If you want good food to go with your ambience you won't get it here; flavorless fish, tired pasta dishes, poorly-prepared steaks. It is to the point where I only order sandwiches or burgers because those are the only satisfying meals to be had. If the fare is disappointing the service is downright poor. Each and every time I visit there always seem to be too few servers and too many busboys milling around by the bar doing nothing. My party tonight spent 20 minutes before we were given our iced teas and another 10 for refill. Not once but twice I found myself getting out of my seat to look for our server to inquire about missing drinks or salads. Our pina coladas sat on the bar for so long they were melted by the time they made it to our table. This was on a Monday night and it was not particularly busy. My advice to my fellow diner: don't eat here unless you're fine waiting quite a while. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT a kid friendly restaurant considering the wait. My advice to the (always friendly) owner: put pitchers of ice water and iced tea, and soda into the hands of your busboys. Get a second bartender for weekend nights. When the kitchen is running behind, put bread out to keep your guests pacified. Get your servers back to the tables to inquire about drinks - our pina coladas were finished and we were ready for more...you're throwing money away! read more

Worst restaurant experience EVER! It started with the waiter having NO clue about any of the menu items after the manager or owner (not sure which) told us the kitchen was at least an hour behind. We thought "nice patio, we will make it work." Should have left right then. Then, we ordered appetizers. The wine and cheese deep had stale pita chips that were almost indelible. The onion rings and cheese wedges were OK. Then, after waiting for an hour and a half we started seeing other tables that were seated after us starting to be served. We tried to POLITELY point this out to the waiter. His response was to CHASTISE us for ordering appetizers first! Then the owner/manager shows up and says, angrily, I TOLD YOU IT WAS GOING TO BE A LONG WAIT! When we told her we were not going to be talked to like that she turned and walked away! We told the waiter we had been through all we were going to and bring us our check. The waiter came back, apologized and said he confirmed our entree was 1 hour and 5 minutes in and "it still wasn't looking good." Then they did the only good thing they did all night. They comped the meal. RUN AWAY!!!! This restaurant needs new management or to close permanently and quit being a stain on Pentwater. read more

Was a seat yourself situation on a Friday evening and we easily found a place to sit. Place was medium busy, but we waited about 15 min for anyone to acknowledge us besides the girl who wiped off the table and said someone would be over. So bad start. I got the surf and turf burger which was ok but as the menu says -- all burgers are made medium well, which is like saying they're going to cook all the flavor out. My g/f got the fish and chips which by her estimation were "the worst" and the other member of our group got baby back ribs. I'll take his word that they were alright, but I can't really comment on them. I have to mention their bizarre corking fee policy. You can buy wine in their shop ahead of eating but if you want them to open it while dining, you have to pay double the bottle price. We had bought a bottle of wine but after seeing the policy there was no way we (or anyone I imagine) would do that. You'd end up paying triple the original bottle price... Huh? Also the vegetarian options aren't good... I don't understand why vegetarian always seems to translate to--- "we must have portobello mushroom" but that's not unique to this place. Anyway, I'm not from around Pentwater but there HAVE to be better options, find one. read more

We loved it! Food was fantastic, great menu. Owner & waitstaff very friendly & accommodating. We sat outside on the deck under the birch trees, lovely! They had live music & jazz that was super fun! Great atmosphere & they let you sit wherever you want, loved that! Try the mushroom ravioli, it's to die for! Also loved their smoked fish & the french fries are so good. Came here with my family when staying at Silver Lake. I got the Michigan Perch which was solid. Ordered the truffle potatoes because I saw them delivered to a different table and they looked great. I was disappointed to find they used instant potatoes. Service was slow but the waitress was nice at least. Waited forever, appetizer never came because our waiter told us he was "too overwhelmed" and "couldn't get it out" but he only had two tables, one of them being ours... lettuce for the salad was wilted ($16 dollar salad that should've been like $9), drinks were awful, overall just not a great experience. We came here at the end of the season. We weren't interested in bar food so we stopped here. We got the meatloaf and the stuffed shells. The stuffed shells were tasty. The meatloaf was good, the potatoes were real but the star of the meal was the squash. I am not a squash eater, my husband is. But I loved their squash. I almost traded my shells for the squash. The service was slow, but very nice. Had the waiter come back to the table prior to the meal coming, I would have ordered a salad too (me not thinking in the first place). I can see during peak season they would be jammed with a line around the corner. But in off season, it was just good, homemade food. We'll return. read more

My family of five and I dine here regularly and often enjoy live music overlooking Pentwater Lake. "The Gull" is very kid friendly as it is casual dining in a beach town. Most frequently enjoyed meals are the bourbon salmon that is served on a bed of sautéed kale, I always order the baked acorn squash with this and love it. Secondly, I love the walleye that is served with a cherry butter. I must admit that I was apprehensive about the cherry butter but trust me, it is lovely. I would have asked for extra but, you know, it's straight butter. Both are excellent with the Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc. read more

We decided to stop in for dinner despite all the negative reviews and we're glad we did. The patio was awesome and music made the overall atmosphere really wonderful. I had the salmon with bourbon glaze with the cinnamon/sugar squash as a side and it was wonderful. I ate every bite. My wife had the fried shrimp and side salad and it was also very enjoyable. The service was good. Overall a very pleasant experience and we would plan to come back for dinner when we're in the area again. read more

BAD FOOD, HIGH PRICES, LONG WAIT. I literally got a yelp account to review this god forsaken establishment. We got there at 7:05 and were seated right away. Our waitress took forever to come over and take our order and even longer to get us our drinks. The "house Chardonnay" was a glorified Welch's white grape juice and I asked what the soup was and the waitress and she said Wisconsin cheese so i ordered a cup. 20 minutes later I asked about the soup and she had forgotten, then came back with clam chowder and asked if that was ok instead. Soup was decent but OH BOY BUCKLE UP FOR THE MAIN COURSE. We asked about our food again around 8:15 and finally got the food at 8:25, over and hour after we ordered. I got a chicken quesadilla for $14.00. Pricey, but how do you mess up a chicken quesadilla, right? The chicken was so gross, I would be more comfortable eating sushi from a gas station. My dad got the walleye and said it tasted straight out of the freezer and my mom got a $20 wedge salad that can with a packet of kens dressing. $20!?! WHACK The whole bill was over $100 and overall trash experience. At least the band was good. If you find yourself in a gun-to-your-head must eat at this restaurant situation, get the coconut shrimp. The host immediately pushed us out of the way at the door and didn't hold it for us. My brother ordered the walleye sandwich and immediately noticed that the bun was covered in mold. We did have a few challenges that we bring to the table-1 gluten free, 1 vegetarian, 1 picky eater. However, we can usually all find something at any restaurant. We ordered the stuffed shells, vegetarian. Repeated and confirmed. We aslo ordered the Portabella Thai pasta in peanut sauce with rice noodles. There is an upcharge for rice noodles. The waitress came back after some time and advised that they were out of seafood lasagna. Which we did not order. They do offer a gluten free bun for an upcharge if you want a $17 burger but the fries also are breaded so it would be another upcharge for a substitute potato... Our final item was a burger, which was very flavorless so I'm glad I didn't pay that price. After an hour wait for food we were sadly disappointed. The stuffed shells were undercooked so the pasta was impossible to cut let alone chew. The Thai peanut dish had the most disgusting sauce. Not Thai nor peanut. It was actually so bad we sent it back. Came to Gull Landing while I was on a weekend fishing trip in Pentwater. The first thing that I was impressed with was the awesome outdoor seating they have. It gives you a perfect view of the water and is just a really nice atmosphere. We had 7 people and it took about 20 minutes to be seated on a Saturday night so not bad at all. The service was good the whole night. Out of the 7 of us we all really enjoyed our food and I would definitely recommend this place. The town of Pentwater is also really nice so the location really helps make this a really good restaurant! read more

Awful. We ate there this last Saturday and everything served to us I'm pretty sure was out of the freezer (with exception to the soggy fried asparagus). Kids pizza was terrible. The fried shrimp, cod, and salmon was terrible. It's too bad that this restaurant isn't better because it is in such a nice spot. Black duct tape covered the chairs that were falling apart inside. Had group of 6 for Sunday night dinner. Did not expect bands volume to be turned up as loud as possible nor hearing songs from 1940/50's that were irrelevant to anyone living in 2019. The noise alone killed any opportunity to have a conversation with our guests. The waitress was nice which is why I'm rating this a 2, but overall service was slow Drinks were ok but a hand poured margarita on the rocks came out in a beer glass. It was all mix. Reordered a slush version. This one came out in a typical glass for milk and was also not good. Appetizers were ok and the best one. was ahi tuna. The tuna should have been part of the main menu as it was the best think consumed by our group. Three of us ordered prime rib and about 10 minutes later were told it was out. Yet the people that came in after our group and ordered after us, got their prime rib. As an alternative to prime rib I had a sirloin. I read the menu warning that steaks served on the deck look more well done than they are (not sure what that meant ). In any case I ordered medium rare and it was served well done. So it looked and tasted more well done on that deck ..... not good. The best part of meal for me was the mashed potatoes The Caesar salad was dry and bland. I know this going in based on the menu describing that salads could not be mixed with dressings on the deck because fruit fly issues. I've been in PTW for 12 years and only went to this place twice before because of bad food . I won't be back for another 12 years based on Sunday BTW. Pretty good food (sometimes), HORRIBLE service and sanitation. Gone to the Gull about 4 times and every time has been a DISASTER. I keep trying to give it another chance but yesterday was their last chance... Yesterday, my sister and I went to lunch and nearly sat there waiting for our food (salads) for an hour, even though it wasn't even busy, and had to ask 3 waitresses for our bills, which also took an hour to receive. Not only does the place have bad service but there's ALWAYS stuff in our drinks (either crumbs, flies, or hairs)! Also, there is a fish cleaning station down the street so if you go for lunch or dinner, you're destine to smell dead fish being cut open by fisherman. Definitely skip this restaurant. Waste of not only money but time, as well!! read more
