A great little place with some fantastic food. I stopped here on a trip from Arizona to New Jersey and while investigating my route found this little gem. The staff was very friendly and helpful and welcoming. I had a small salad and a BIG BOWL of Chicken Sausage Gumbo and man-o-man, it hit the spot. Tasty and filling. It couldn't have been better. I finished it off with a Chocolate Drizzle Bread Pudding, and it was as good as my grandma's who was from Georgia. A++++++ for this place. I'll be back.. read more

Every time I'm in town I like to go here and grab a bite to eat I really enjoy the gumbo with a name like gumbo pot you better have a good gumbo and they do. The beer is cold and the atmosphere is very lively and you usually run into somebody you know. This is a very familiar spot for locals. read more

Wow!! The only down side to this place is it's 360 miles from my house. We lucked into Gumbo Pot searching for a lunch spot off hwy 20. I'm so glad we did. Ice, ice, ice cold beer. Stopped last Saturday at 1100 just as they were opening got the fried green tomatoes, absolutely delicious, thickly cut fabulous breading perfection! So this Saturday on our way back through we stopped again again the fried green tomatoes, very poorly prepared, thin, different breading w sauce we didn't order, about half the amount of previous week, $12. The food is good!! This is more of a review on service. I'm unsure of her name, either Camille or Camilla, was extremely rude when I tried to place a to go order. I called a 2:02 pm and asked to place a to go order for fried pickles. "Don't take to go orders after two. Sorry." And before I could get a word out I was hung up on. I understand time limits! But there was a much more eloquent way to go about that. Also, it's not like I was calling at 2:30...but 2:02. Food is good but can be a little pricey. Gumbo Pot was hands down one of the best Cajun restaurants I've had the pleasure of eating at. We ordered quite a bit off the menu and everything we had was ridiculously amazing!!!!! I am probably spoiled by living on the coast, but this place had to have the worst char grilled oysters I have ever had. I spit the first one into a napkin and decided to try a second. This was a mistake. The texture was tough and they must not have cooked them with enough heat. The oysters were sent back almost immediately. The gumbo wasn't much better I do not think the rice was cooked long enough. On a positive note the service was excellent in this busy restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is fun, and not loud. It has a great Jazzy/Delta vibe and has a very clean appearance. I have been giving alot of restaurants breaks for poor service and slow food delivery but when the food is terrible there is no excuse. read more

Found this gem right off the I-20 and boy was it amazing!!! Absolutely EVERYTHING we ordered was beyond delicious!!!! From the appetizers to entree to the dessert, this place did not disappoint. Fantastic Cajun seafood with even better service! Stopped here on my roadtrip across the country and the people here were the highlight of my trip. The food was really good; the ambiance was old time diner. I had the red beans and rice and it was very good (but not as good as mine). My husband had the gumbo and said the same (it's not as good as his). the "back" room had a buffet that I got the impression is set up everyday. The day I went was build-your-own tacos (taco Tuesday), but we didn't have any. Lots of locals that out waitress hugged when they came in. She was good and knowledgeable. I was really looking forward to some good gumbo and jambalaya. Sadly jambalaya was not on their menu. They had fettuccini, which seemed out of place on menu. I ordered a small shrimp and grits and the gumbo that was a combo of chicken/sausage and seafood. First off, grits were great! And the seafood was cooked to perfection. Tasted so good! However, with gumbo being the thing j wanted to try I walked away disappointed. In a cup, I had 1 piece of sausage, 3 super small shrimp like out of a can. And I had no other meat ingredients. The flavor was bland and very oily. Perhaps a bowl would have had more substance, but still..if you are ordering a cup of stuff..the stuff should be in it. It was Saturday evening and mist of the tables were taken. I decided to sit in the bar area. They have catfish, Shrimps and crawfish. Took charbroiled oysters, it was delicious. The seafood Gumbo was average, it could be better with a hint of spice. The backend catfish could be more blackened to have more flavor. The service was slow. They did not bring my sides on time . The food and dessert were absolutely fabulous Don't miss this place if you have the chance. It's in a strip center, but is larger than it looks inside. Fried catfish is amazing. The same can be said for the shrimp and grits. I ate there 2 days in a row and waa thrilled by the quality of the food. Have you ever had cold étouffée? Yeah, their crawfish sauce served cold over a cold fried catfish fillet was about as tasty as that sounds. A new dining destination. Super cute and colorful. We had the West Bank catfish ( blackened ) and the big ol' pontchartrain ( fried ). Both were Excellent! Fresh, seasoned well, large portions and served hot. Service staff was super polite, friendly and attentive. Can't wait to return. Great food and service when we've come to expect so much less. Hands down, one of the best meals I've had since visiting Vicksburg! We have been there twice so far and the service has been great and fast every time. Along with the restaurant being clean and very beautifully decorated. Of course the gumbo was my favorite, but the seafood Buffett was great too which they only have two days a week! Also don't forget to get some of their white chocolate bread pudding!! I had never heard of it until passing through here and it has become a new favorite! Waitstaff is really sweet and welcoming here. As far the food, the gumbo itself gets a 3 but the shrimp and crab boil is definitely a 4. I was a little disappointed in the gumbo, it was thick and dark like I'd hoped but just wasn't seasoned right. The rice was also a little undercooked so the whole thing didn't blend in my mouth too well. The shrimp on the other hand. Lord. Jesus. I don't know what kind of seasoning they used but I should've bought 5 gallons of that stuff to go. It was straight crack and on top of that you can be dipping all your nonsense in salted butter? It is located in a strip mall behind a Walgreens and the ambiance is pretty non existent but the food was good and allowed us the chance to try some traditional cajun/southern fare. I had the fried dill pickles and shrimp po'boy and my husband had fried mushrooms and crawfish etoufee. The pickles and the and the mushrooms were both overbattered and over fried and the po'boy and the etoufee both lacked flavor. I just completed my self-guided tour of Vicksburg that included the National Military Park, Cemetery and the old Antebellum homes near the MS river. It was around 2 PM and I had a heck of a time finding somewhere to eat... One of my coworkers recommended 10 South; however, lunch hours end at 2PM. Why do you guys do that in MS??? I came in and ordered the Pontchartrain Plate that had hush puppies, catfish, shrimp and oysters along with a cup of their gumbo. The gumbo was actually really yummy. I liked the broth better than that of Gumbo Girl; however, the shrimps and meat portions in the soup were pretty tiny. The plate was on of my faves of the trip!!! The catfish were thin, but not too thin. The oysters were breaded just right and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. The hush puppies weren't anything special and now that I think about it - I should have ordered something that wasn't as bread-y as a side... The service was OK. The waitress was attentive enough, but most definitely not the stellar service i got at Gumbo Girl! Overall, I would come back here in a heart beat.
