We did the hour UTV tour with our family of 5. Amanda was our driver and she was great. We got to see different areas of the 1000 acre ranch with beautiful views and a couple surprises that were wonderful. She even picked ripe guava for us to try, which was delicious. Amanda also spoke about the history of the ranch, which was fun to learn about. I enjoyed seeing all the animals and how they are free to roam in open pastures. My best friend has visited this ranch before and loved her trail ride so invited me and my daughter to join when celebrating her daughter's birthday last week. I was nervous going with my 10-year-old since she has never been on a horse on her own before. I used to compete in rodeos, so no concern for me there (I may book the advanced next time). I was very comfortable with the guidance of the handlers, Beth and Devin. Lots of talking story, history of the ranch and building new memories while kids played "hooky" from school. The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars is solely on the picture quality. We purchased all photos but was taken with a cell phone and most of us were either looking away and definitely wasn't close enough for the group shot. Some we purchased in the package also included others on the trail ride not in our group, so I have 4 I spent money on that I don't even know. Maybe just either more time, better skills, or better phone? Next time I plan to pull mine out and take pictures but was only able to carry phone in a saddle bag and not on my person which was hard to get to and put back all the time instead of a cross body on my chest. I do understand policy and respect that just will wear a jacket with pockets maybe next time. I realize with animals it is tough but the profile photo of gunstock ranch with the couple is what I was expecting to be able to frame at home. A suggestion could be a professional photographer at the photo point. We will definitely be back with my 7-year-old as they offer different experiences/rides for his grade level. 1.5 hour scenic ride experience and pony experience ** This small family owned ranch has lots of different options to choose from on their website but the pony ride and 1.5 scenic ride experience is what suited our group best! They also give kama'aina discount! (A little goes a long way!) Check in was a breeze -- even with the surf competition going on; we definitely got lucky! For our littlest in the group, the pony ride was definitely worth it, even though she was scared! We fed the goats and bunnies with the feed they sold there for $1! Our tour guides Aspen and Tyler were super friendly. The scenic ride was a calm walk through the ranch with gorgeous views of the mountains and butterflies surrounding us the entire way. My horse mochi was amazing. I wish I had brought her apples and carrots! We loved hearing the stories of the horses and a little bit of the land. I wish there was a way for everyone on the tour to hear the guides better .. it's hard when it's a lot of people vs two guides. I would totally recommend this as a lax tour for people/kids just getting introduced to horses. They are very well behaved horses and made everyone feel comfortable and safe. My wife and I reserved the 5:30 PM Sunset Ride on 7/23/2025 through a 3rd party. Others in our group did not want to go horseback riding so my wife and I had to rent a separate car. We drove from the West Shore to Gunstock Ranch. We spent the day a Wilema Falls and then went to the Gunstock Ranch We got there at 3 PM to check in early and then to go get a bite to eat. Luckily we stopped by early because Gunstock said they had to reject our reservation through the third party due to the 5:30 PM ride was all booked up. The 3rd party never told us that the reservation got rejected and they charged the ride on our credit card. My wife was distraught because she wanted to go horseback riding in Hawaii more than anything. We were leaving th3 next day so we could not reschedule. I talked to the Manager Beau and he was able to book us a private ride for me and my wife at 4:30. Beau saved the day for me and my wife. He told us to be back by 4:15 PM and I told him we were not going anywhere. Thanks so much for saving the day for us Beau. Summer was our ride for the ride. She was so sweet and very nice. What a great ranch! Took my daughter here because they offer an advanced riding option and she had an unforgettable time galloping with her horse Buckles and her guide Lon & Reagan. Our family went to Gunstock on our Oahu vacation, and did an hour long trail ride. All of the wranglers (unfortunately the only name we can remember is Devyn) were fantastic and educational while being fun and lighthearted. We rode Dora, Meatloaf, Baloo, and Gimley who all did a fantastic job and were amazing horses. The free petting zoo was also great. Although we had complications with transportation, the staff was really accommodating and understanding of our situation. Thankfully, we were able to still go through with our original time slot. I really wanted to like this tour. I booked based on the 5 star reviews. The positive was the place had great communication to sign waivers and what time we needed to sign up. The staff was very friendly and polite. The horses and livestock were beautiful. I loved the backroads trails in the country. Here is what can be improved- the wranglers were difficult to hear. We were a fairly large party (9 total riders) with 2 wranglers. There was one in the front who spoke with the front family and one in the back who spoke with one particular rider. Very little history of the land and of Hawaii were given. It was silent for a large portion of the ride. The wranglers were very friendly and polite but they seemed very young and spoke too softly. I would recommend in the future to discuss the land history and possibly Hawaiian customs. Other horseback riding tours on other Hawaiian islands had given more knowledge about the land and Hawaiian traditions. Also, if there is a large party, bring an amplifying device or provide another wrangler so everyone can hear the information. To top it off, I was planning to purchase photos but there were only 2 photos taken in our photo package, the others were people in our tour but not of our party, I don't blame the wranglers, I think they need to be given instructions on how to give tours with parameters that need to be followed. When one of my friends said she was coming out to Hawaii, I planned on just meeting for lunch. Instead she booked us a trail ride with Gunstock. I was impressed by the location because it's far enough away from the tourist hell that is Kualoa. Friendly wranglers and guides! Ashley was great!!! Great trails to ride through! My horse Cedar was gentle and strong...and she loved to snack....gee, imagine that..I get a horse that loves to snack! LOL! It had been a really long time since I've rode a horse, and I'm glad I was given Cedar. Some tips for you: Wear pants; bring sunscreen; bug repellent (if you feel you need, which I do); closed toed shoes, sneakers are fine; they have small saddle bags for water; you can take photos with your phone, but you might drop it if your horse veers one way, and they might step on it. Ashley took photos of us and you can purchase after you're done. There is something peaceful and tranquil when riding a horse in paradise. They are very smart and know when you're not paying attention...as Cedar kept going for a little snack...LOL! Today our family had the opportunity to do a ride at Gunstock Ranch. There were 5 of us w varied levels of riding experience as well as weights and heights. The team was very accommodating at matching us to appropriate horses -- a nice safety review at the beginning - options for helmets for all. We had the opportunity to see the team interacting with 2 families with young children -- great job -- speciality horse who was made up as a unicorn "Buttons" was super great with the young ones. Off on our ride -- the team of Ellie, Sydney and Ocean did a great job relating to the group. We got a history lesson of the Ranch -- local flora and fauna as well as general history of the area. The 90 minutes went quickly riding through picturesque meadows -- incredible views of the ocean. This is really a special ride on a wonderful property. Thank you team! Makenna did a great job giving my group a horseback riding tour. Everyone was super nice and she was very informative and funny. I would definitely recommend this place, they make the experience super personalized and they try to learn and remember your names. There is a photographer if you'd like to purchase pictures and there are also bathrooms available to use. It does get hot so I'd recommend earlier times if they have it. They are very punctual. We came in the afternoon and it was pretty hot. Wear a hat and sunscreen. We started off in a shaded area that has a petting zoo. They have sheep, goats, etc. We held the baby goat and I would return just for that. We had a short demonstration of how to ride basics and then we were off. Got to see the ranch and some nice views of the ocean. They also take photos of you on the way that are available for purchase online. We did the pony ride for the little one at Gunstock Ranch while visiting the North Shore. The price for the kid's pony is $52 for about 30 minutes, which includes mounting, unmounting, riding, and brushing at the end. Her ride included only her, the guide, and my wife. Check in is easy, everything is well-run. The horses look well-cared for. The young women who guide the rides are friendly and helpful. Her knowledge of the ranch and funny jokes during our UTV tour were one of the highlights of our day, especially getting to encounter the amazing views of gunstock ranch. We had about a 2 hour UTV ride that included a sunset dinner at a cute little spot under a big tree with a fire. It was raining during that portion of the tour, but Paige and other wranglers still did the best they could to make sure we were taken care of.
