Maybe I went on an off day? I stopped into Gurnee Donuts because I saw all of the good reviews here on Yelp. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful, but the donuts themselves just were not good. The Boston cream had maybe one tablespoon of cream inside. The chocolate glazed didn't have any flavor. The blueberry was just ok. I hate saying this because I love going to mom and pop shops, but honestly Dunkin Donuts is much better.

They have ube donuts!!! Says so in the menu (and i missed it)!!! :(

I'm feeling regretful. We popped into Gurnee Donuts, grabbed a few goodies, happily inhaled a ridiculously good apple fritter, yum yumm yummm.. ..seriously, that thing was so big we had to split it amongst the 3 of us.... only to realize after we drove off that they had UBE DONUTS. UBE!!! DONUTS!!! The betrayal... by myself!! I wish i knew this when we were actually in Gurnee!! So now I'm emotionally obligated (and definitely not mad about it) to haul myself back to Gurnee and make things right w an ube donut taste-test. One day, I'll be back!!

Gurnee Donuts is always great on ube weekends or regular weekdays. Donuts are always fresh, service always friendly, prices reasonable, and the place is always clean. Ube Weekends -- get there early!

I used to love this place! I would wake up early to get there and get some ube donuts before they ran out! But its been a couple years and I am in town so I decided to come in and get a does around 10 in the morning. This inside had a few chairs which people could sit inside. The server was very quick when taking my order. I walked in ans it looked the same as it was before. I ordered a dozen donuts and I was so shocked at how small they are now.. i got chocolate glaze, ube sprinkles, vanilla sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles and some Boston cream donuts. The donuts were smaller than I remember but using the same recipe so the flavor was more concentrated and they were way too sweet.. honestly they werent made with love.. another example of what happens when business prioritize profits over quality. So disappointing..

Gurnee Donuts is a gem! A small, family-owned business with super friendly and helpful service. We went in planning to grab just two donuts and left with a dozen--and a coffee! There's a steady flow of regulars, which says a lot. Great variety, fun flavors, and everything was fresh and delicious. You can tell they put care and love into what they do. We'll definitely be back!

It is located in a unit of a multi-use commercial building. Upon approaching, the location is clean and clear of any trash or hazards. Very small area in the front to sit and eat. The hours are clearly noted on the door. When entering the building, there was a sweet aroma that was inviting. The facility was clean with a display of donuts just in front of me and a cooler with drinks to the right. I was looking at the purple donut, which the kind gentleman advised was the "purple sweet potato" donut. The display is nice with purple frosting and purple sprinkles. He also advised that this is one of the biggest sellers. I hear this business is locally owned and operated. All of the donuts looked delicious in a nicely displayed. They offer long John's, crullers, sprinkled, glazed, honey buns, and many more. I purchased two of the purple sweet potato and an apple fritter. I was not too impressed with the purple sweet potato, but the apple fritter was delicious. The price, I'm not too sure about that. Roughly $10 for 3 items seems a bit steep.

I decided to try this place based on Yelp reviews. The shop is located in a strip center alongside several other ethnic restaurants and stores. I got a chocolate cake donut and an apple fritter. There are a couple of tables for those who want to sit and have coffee. The staff member who helped us wasn't particularly friendly, but he wasn't rude either. The donuts aren't labeled, so we had to ask about the options. Overall, the donuts were average--not the best, but not the worst.

I had to hit up Gurnee donuts because I was in the area on a Sunday morning. Most of the donuts sold were traditional. The raised dough was a little off on texture/taste and not so sweet. The cake and buttermilk were alright. I really liked their ube donut the most. It was soft, fluffy, and moist.

Gurnee Donuts is good but not something I would drive out of my way for often. If your coming from Chicagoland area like most of us, it could be an hour drive or more. My wife likes coming here cuz she's Filipino so she wants to contribute to her people in the small business community. I would say it's worth the drive if you're also heading to Six Flags, Gurnee Mills mall or the outlet mall in Pleasant Prairie, WI. We definitely make a day out of it for our shopping trips. The donuts are fresh & made daily, their ube selections are what we mostly desire but there's also other variety like a red velvet cake donut & cherry old fashioned which was surprisingly good as I don't eat much cherry of anything. They also had an ube cinnamon roll for once which I had to try, needless to say it wasn't to my liking..too sweet for me with the glaze then added cream cheese frosting & sugar sprinkles as well. Overall, I would recommend this establishment if you're a big sweet tooth fan & if you're Filipino, at least make the trip out here once just to satisfy your curiosity. All in all, I would say it is a definite must try if you're in the area or passing through Gurnee on the highway but not a solo reason to make the trip up here for.

Wanted to love these donuts, but felt after tasting that I was left with only a feeling of like. The texture of the donuts were light and airy, but the biggest issue was the greasy after taste. The bavarian cream donut had too little cream, 2-3 bites to actually get to the cream. The cream also had a bland taste. So, overall had high expectations, and felt they were just ok. In fact, Tim Horton's donuts (available in Michigan and Canada) are superior to these. read more

Delicious!! Just finished eating a red velvet and maple long john. They were sooo yummy. As my 5 year old said these are way better than DD. It was our first visit and it won't be our last...it was a little pricey but worth it.. 8.50 for a dozen.. definitely the place to go for donuts!! read more

Delicious! We just moved into the metro north area from the east coast big city life and this donut shop reminds me of the donuts I got as a kid growing up in small town USA. The raised donuts are light and fluffy while the cake donuts are soft on the inside and a little bit crunchy on the outside. The shop keepers are incredibly friendly and gave 2 extra donuts with my order. I'm hooked! read more

Just got an ube donut! It was super moist but super sweet! I could only taste a little hint of the ube. The coconut and ube was the best, I still have to try all the other flavors! Have to go back again, overall it was good but too sweet! read more

I went there on a Saturday specifically to have the Ube donuts. The reviews all say to get there early as they ran out. I got there 6:15 am, excited and all BUT "The ube donuts won't be ready for another hour." What???? These are only available on the weekends and they are not ready? I drove about half hour to get there and no, I am not waiting for them. The owner/lady apologized for not having them ready but was not too concerned except to say "We'll have it tomorrow too." NO Thank you!!! The rest of the donuts didn't look that great so I didn't bother trying. read more

These are cakey donuts and they are well made. Place doesn't look special from the front, and the inside is nothing great, but they make a great product. If your looking for dunkin donuts style donuts, you will be disappointed. Then again, if your out looking for dunkin donut style donuts, your life has already taken a turn for the worse. read more

Donuts were sooo good. We drove the hour ride from Chicago just for the ube donuts and they were so worth it! We had leftovers for 2 days and they were still just as good after reheating. I wished they were closer to Chicago though or maybe not since I would go to them all the time and gain a ton of weight! read more

Gurnee Donuts catered the delicious donut dessert at my daughter's Bat Mitzvah. They were a huge hit with kids and adults alike. Kevin decorated them to match the colors of the party and they were beautiful. Kevin was fantastic to work with: kind, responsive, and very fair--and he delivered. I'm glad I can get Gurnee Donuts at Tala Coffee, in Highwood, but I look forward to visiting the shop in Gurnee soon! Thanks Kevin! read more

The Donuts are 1000% better than Dunkin Donuts. I will never get donuts anywhere else again. Dealt with a female worker. She was rude, short and flippant. She acted as if she didnt want to be bothered. I asked her for some recommendations, as it was my first time, and just gave us complete attitude. I am asian and brought my out of town asian relatives here and felt like she wanted to get us our of the way for her Caucasian customers. Will never go back. read more

They have your normal standard donuts and some speciality. Apple fritter was good. All the donuts seemed fresh for the day. Leaps and bounds better than the chain donut places. Plus cheaper than most. Less than $10 for a dozen unless you add special donuts. read more

Gurnee Donuts has been family owned and operated for over 21 years. We have over 30 different varieties of donuts made from scratch daily. You can smell the aroma of our creations everyday if your driving by. We open daily at 6am and attempt to stay open until 2pm. We'll only close our doors early if we run out of donuts. As the super dad that I am, I decided to surprise my family with these tantalizing treats. Now, let me paint the picture of disappointment for you. Brace yourselves. Picture this: I walk into the doughnut spot, my heart racing with anticipation. But lo and behold, they didn't have the legendary red velvet doughnuts! The donuts here at Gurnee Donuts are simply amazing! Let me tell you about their maple bacon that I had, it was hands down the best I've ever tasted. But that's not all.
