This is my go to stop for early morning team donuts- you can't go wrong- everything is delicious and the staff is friendly and fast.

I passed through Waukegan early on a Sunday morning. I was a little skeptical just looking at their pastries and having my mind set on donuts wasn't helping. I left with a cinnamon roll donut and a apple danish. I was loving the donut as I ate it while driving to my destination. The sweetness, texture, moistness, and cinnamon flavor was all there. I could have ate a couple more. The next day I ate the apple danish. It held up nicely a day later and wasn't all dried out. It was reminiscent of the apple danishes that McDonalds used to sell years ago, but 10x better. The apple filling was a sweet delight that i can rarely find. I really enjoyed the pastries here and everything tasted way better than they looked. If I would have known the goods were going to be great, I would have bought a lot more. To bad I won't be back out that way until next summer. read more

For over 20 years this bakery has turned out delicious cake and yeast donuts, long Johns and buns at affordable prices. I give them as gifts to doctors' and vets' staffs for jobs well done. A box of a dozen is about $13 I recall. read more

Excellent bakery! The customer service was superior! The taste was impeccable. I previously ordered Mom's birthday cake and it was a crowd pleaser. Recently, I wanted to bring a cake to friends home. Although I have purchased cakes from grocery departments, I wanted something exceptional for the special occasion. I called O Brothers but had waited until the last minute expecting the worse. To my surprise, they prepare beautiful cakes on a daily basis. AND to say the least, it was remarkably delicious. Our friends raved upon the flavor, texture, frosting, and presentation. I loved the inscription which was written on the cake after we discussed the event - Bon Appe'tit ! I was looking for a place to pick up some baked goods in the area and this bakery showed up. I am very glad I went here instead of a chain. I was able to pick up an assortment of donuts which included a few more "fancy" things like a few apple fritters and such, and it was still less than $10! They also had some packaged cookies, coffee cakes, danishes, actual coffee brewing, and more. The service was friendly and quick. The owners really know how to churn out orders. Taste-wise the donuts were delicious and fresh-tasting, even after a few hours. The apple fritter had nice chunks of apple in it. I definitely recommend coming here to pick up baked goods for a party or if you just need a pick-me-up and you're in the area. read more

We love donuts! O'Brothers is in an unassuming strip mall, coincidentally near a 'dunkin store. The Boston creme's are my favorite, but the fritters and powdered Bavarian Cremes are great. The coffee served in white Styrofoam is a good choice, even it doesn't have any logo or fancy stir stick. Try this little locally owned store, I doubt you will pass it by if you travel near it in the future! read more

This is a real value. The prices are pre-war. It is my go to bakery for coffee cake, doughnuts, and sweet rolls. The chocolate coffee cake is the best thing ever, it's worth the shock to your liver. The doughnuts and sweet rolls are also wonderful. I held off on a fifth star because the selection is very small. They seem to do cakes. They have a limited selection of cookies which are fine but not my fav. Other than that, they seem to concentrate on the traditional breakfast bakery items. read more

When Gurnee Donuts was closed, I was still determined to find local donuts. It was easy to find and, humorously, right next next to a Dunkin' Donuts. The inside of the store was as old and sad looking in appearance as the donuts were delicious. Everything was affordable and the service was really fast. Scrumptious culinary delights worthy of a 5 Star+ rating! I am a member of a 15+ member coffee group who meet regularly in Bannockburn, Il. This is also my first Yelp review. I am writing on behalf of our coffee group because we recently conducted our own informal bakery taste test challenge and unanimously ruled O'Brothers to be King of Lake County, IL local donuts and specialty cakes! In addition each year for the past 9 years on Fat Tuesday, I arise before 5:00 AM and drive from my home in Lake Forest, IL to wait in line for my 8 dozen plus order of their custom made Paczkis. They are by far the best and freshest anywhere and worthy of their own Facebook Page! O'Brothers offers over 1 dozen different Paczki fillings, and not one of them that isn't delicious! I visited Georgetown Cupcakes in August, 2014 and Carlos' Bakery in past years because they were featured on TLC, but truly O'Brothers tops them in taste, quality and value! What a hidden and undiscovered bakery gem! Our Northshore, IL coffee group is very diverse and discerning. We rarely (if ever) agree on anything, except in our unanimous recommendation of O'Brothers Bakery in Waukegan, IL, as a place to visit if you desire quality and freshness. In fact, we would go far as to say that this small unassuming place would top any of the TLC bakeries any of us have visited if put to a blind taste test! Love this Bakery! Delicious Fresh Treats and Great Prices. I must agree, it's a 'Hidden Gem in Lake County'.

I have lived right around the corner from this shop for 3 years and never gave it a second thought due to how it looked and the overall condition of the entire building. But man-o-man, talk about judging a book by its cover...So I finally broke down and stopped in. The donuts were sooo much better than Dunkin Donuts. I may have gone back about 2 or 3 times since I first tried them. I usually would get the Cinnamon Rolls or Danish and they were so good. Yesterday I decided to try something different. I got my usual but I also tried this other donut. It was the shape of an over puffed pretzel. It looked like it was filled with a lot of air, that's why I usually pass it. Well yesterday the young lady at the counter explained it was similar to a glazed so I figured what the heck and tried it. Let me tell you....... I heated the donut about 12 seconds in the microwave and sat down to eat it not expecting much. When I put the first small fork full in my mouth, I was like mmmm. So, I got a larger fork full the second time and, (my mouth is watering as I'm writing this review, lol...), OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!! It was like the softest, non-gooey but good dough consistency, sweet but not too sweet, firm yet moist, warm deliciousness taste explosion. O MY GOSH! It was SO FREAKIN GOOD! So good, I just made a short run to grab 2 more. DE-LISH! I would've given 5 stars but the shop is in bad shape. They need to invest in a bucket of paint to brighten the inside, maybe a few tiles for the floor, some bright stainless carts for the coffee and cookie stands, and some general cleaning of the shop. I believe these few things would help but I am already hooked due to that donut, whyyy!!!!! If you can look past the building you should give them a try. read more

Nicest bakery in town! I was visiting Waukegan for a Naval graduation ceremony. I wanted a custom cake for my sailor. I called around several bakeries, and no one was accommodating....until I found O'Brothers Bakery. I spoke to Ricky and told him what I wanted. I emailed him my design and he went over & above to get the job done. The cake was spectacular and tasted so good. My sailor LOVED it. I'm pretty sure it's family owned, nothing glamorous on the outside, but service and taste was impeccable. I have to mention that Ricky allowed me to pick up the cake after hours, because my flight to Chicago was delayed and we got into town after the shop had closed. I was searching for a local, non-chain bakery to make a cake for my wedding rehearsal dinner. I wanted a grooms cake for my (now) husband that was shaped like a fire helmet. I took in some pictures and described what i'd like. Not only was my cake made to perfection, but this was probably the best-tasting cake I've ever had! And I don't even like cake! You cannot go in this place without being tempted by the other treats too. We ended up going multiple times and leaving with multiple coffee cakes and donuts. My family from out of town even stopped to stock up before they left. They provide incredible, home-cooked, high quality baked goods, and the prices are MORE than reasonable. Get there early though, because I'm obviously not the only one who knows, and they run out of the best treats early. Give them a shot, it's worth it! read more
