    Lovely atmosphere

We happened across this gem in Aurora, going from Boulder to the Denver airport. We love Ethiopian food and have had it from many cities including New York City (where we live), Los Angeles and Washington, DC. This food was excellent - so flavorful, perfectly prepared. We had the chicken stew (Doro Wat) and Veggie Combo. The atmosphere and decor were delightful (we were not able to see entertainment but they appear to have some which would have been a treat.) The restaurant is spacious and colorful and has outdoor seating as well. Service was excellent. (Daughter of the chef) Please do stop in.

Delicious food and amazing service. We came here for Mother's Day and were greeted by a friendly staff and authentic dishes. Loved the shareable plates and variety of flavors.

So lovely. Very authentic. Amazing service. Great food! The Taste of Gursha as a meal was phenomenal and such a good sampler of what the restaurant has to offer! Definitely serves 3-4. We were stuffed and had so many leftovers with just two of us. They have kid options too which made our kiddos happy! Ambiance of the restaurant was great as well! 5/5 stars in every regard! Great Ethiopian experience!

Poor service, but good food and good atmosphere. My guess is the waitress is the owner's daughter and doesn't want to work there

This used to be our favorite Ethiopian spot until our most recent take out experience…read more We called to order two vegetarian combos at 5:30 and were told told to come in pick up at 5:45. When we get there at 5:45, we notice that the food is packed up in a medium (9"x13") sized aluminum pan with lid. In the past we'd gotten our meals in two styrofoam take out boxes with plenty of food so I was initially excited to see the new packaging because I believed the quantity would be the same or more. We get home 5 mins later and were sorely disappointed by our order. There were plenty of lentils but the orange ones were undercooked and lacked flavor. There were only about two bites of the collard greens/Gomen wat. And usually Mama África supplies more potatoes spears with their carrot and cabbage side, this time, we also only got two bites of the cabbage, no potatoes. Not to mention, the green beans were definitely canned and had no additional flavor to them. We asked for a side of chickpea soup/shiro wat and were disappointed to find that it too lacked flavor and was mostly oil. The worst part in addition to all the above was that the food was cold and the injera tasted stale and lacked its usual sourness. To add insult to injury, the meal was nearly 70 dollars in total for something that barely fed one person. This was the first time I ever wanted to ask for a refund for our food because we barely received one portion of the veggie combo, not the two we paid for. I hate to leave a one star review for a small business but the quality and quantity of food went down drastically.

The food took a LONG time, we got there when they opened and the food took a little over an hour to arrive. We were the first party in and maybe the 4th party to get our food. There were more lamb and beef options, most items are jalapeños based and spicy. They do make items not as spicy if needed. We ordered the vegetarian combo plate to share with the Beef Derek Tibs and Beef Lega Tibs. Lots of African customers in the restaurant for birthday celebration so I'm sure they are legit. We were told that they were the best Ethiopian food in Denver. The Ethiopian spiced tea was also yummy. Definitely a treat!

We ordered the Lamb Tibs and the Veggie Combo, and both were out of this world. The lamb was perfectly seasoned and tender, the veggie combo was full of flavor, and of course everything was scooped up with plenty of that soft, spongy injera bread. Honestly, the injera alone is worth the trip -- it ties all the flavors together and makes the whole meal feel like an experience. The restaurant is spotless, cozy, and welcoming, and the staff made us feel right at home. If you've never had Ethiopian food before, this is the place to try it -- and if you have, you'll be blown away by how good it is here.

Thanks to one of my side hustle shifts I worked yesterday. Had I not gotten the shift assignment,…read morethis restaurant would have forever been unknown to me even though the long stretch of Havana Street has so many unique restaurants on both side and yet, past the 6th Ave where the restaurant is located had still been an unknown territory for me. I was definitely overdue for a good Ethiopian food so when I found it, I got excited. I intentionally left the house early enough so I could stop here and get me some food before my shift. And it all worked out well. Yesterday's takeout experience was met with so much goodness. I... -Was warmly greeted upon entering the restaurant by two women. -Was the only customer during the non-rush hour time between lunch and dinner. -Was able to place my order immediately as I had the full attention from one of the ladies upfront. -Waited good 15+ minutes and yet, this meant that the kitchen carefully prepared my food. -Received thorough explanation from the same lady (who took my order) as she opened each container to explain what I got. Service was top-notch here. Once I got to my car, I opened the two containers to take a close took at them. I also wanted to take some photos of my beautiful food. What I got were.... -Vegetarian Combo ($19.99) that comes with red lentil stew, split pea mild stew, powdered chickpea stew, carrots and cabbage with potato, collard greens, beetroot and salad. This whole dish was covered with extra layers of injera fermented bread that are/were gluten free. The whole container was so heavy. This was easily way more than what I paid for. And it was probably the best Ethiopian vegetarian plate with all sorts of delightfulness in this massive dish. -Two pieces of Veggie Sambusas (lentil based); this came with a mini salad. Deep-fried sambusas were nice and beautifully brown. And they were so crispy. The heat from the cooking was still felt when I ate them about 10 minutes later. Let's not forget to mention. The restaurant looks very unassuming on the outside. Although the front of it had a colorful green and red signage with restaurant name on it, once inside, it looks small and yet you will be surprised how spacious inside is. Although it's not fancy or modern in any way, it's clean with simpleness. And here and there, there are Ethiopian art decors on the walls which will (I'm pretty sure) capture your attention. You should take the time to look at them as they are quite beautiful. Not to mention, ample seatings are seen in the dining area; the bar is quite large as well. And they do serve alcohol. This is definitely and by far the best Ethiopian restaurant in the Denver metro area (in my opinion). The welcoming host (is this a woman owned business??) that will truly appreciate your business but most of all, the quality and hearty food that will entertain your palates..all sorts of goodness will mesmerize you for sure. This place will justify the miles you will drive to get to it even if you live a bit far from it. Give it a try!

I would like to say if it's your first time just know the "bread" ingera is more sour-ish and is kind of an acquired taste. I would say I have been here many many times now and have taken to go and eaten in small groups and bigger groups. I would say the area is definitely very beautiful and cultural. The take out doesn't really give you the experience so I would say eating there is better. I wouldn't say costumer service is above and beyond but they definitely are nice and have helped us taking out food to go and check on us to see how we're doing. The food is definitely more expensive than I would wish but lots of time and effort go into making the food so it is nice to splurge on this kind of food. Now since I have been here many times, every time the food is amazing and hot (not spicy hot but temp hot) waiting time isn't too long and it's usually nice and quiet enough to hear your friends not too quiet where you can hear a pen drop. FYI they are not welcome to outside food/drink in case one person wants other food.

But don't overlook Lucy near Colfax/Quebec - it's full of fresh and flavorful (and also filling) favorites served in a clean and inviting space. One of my favorite offerings there is the chicken stirfry known as Yedoro Tibs in Amharic and Nay Tibsi Derho in Tigrinya. Redolent with the spice mixture Berbere and sided with soft supple rounds of the teff-based flatbread variously called Injera or Tayta, the dish is served in plentiful portions, ensuring that prospective diners will be suitably satiated. However, I can also attest to the potato stew (Yedinich Wot / Tsebhi Dinish) I sampled on my most recent visit to Lucy. This dish is a bit more mild, utilizing seasonings such as turmeric and ginger for a mellower mouthfeel. Nevertheless, the savory sauce is still a worthy accompaniment to the sizable chunks of potato and carrot which can be found within it. I was very pleased by my meal. But honestly, anything you try at Lucy is sure to be a winner, so stop by and check out one of Colfax's less-heralded Habesha gems.
