This is a minute of Key Tibs, shiro wat, misir wot, and I forget the other one.

Great service and excellent food! This is my favorite Ethiopian spot in Denver!! You can tell the food is made with love.

After missing the Ethiopian food I enjoyed while living in California, I was pleasantly surprised by the options available in Denver! After debating between a few places for dinner, my partner and I picked Queen of Sheba. Great choice. Felt like having a home-cooked meal in someone's home. There seemed to be one person working. I'm assuming it was the owner. I picked the Lamb Tibs (as always) with Harar Beer to wash it down. Delicious, filling meal. Generous portion of meat with "sides" (forgot what they're called in Ethiopian) with more than enough injera to scoop everything into our mouths. We were stuffed by the end. I'm craving Ethiopian again already. Come check out Queen of Sheba if you haven't already!

Called the restaurant for take out and the owner (the sweetest person I've ever met) convinced me that I needed to eat in the restaurant and get the full experience. So glad I did. I was the only person in the restaurant and I got a chance to read the many articles on the restaurant and the history of Ms. Aboie. She is a treasure to the East Colfax community and I'm honored she convinced me to get the full experience. This is the 3rd Ethiopian Restaurant I've tried in Denver and by far my favorite. I ordered the meat combo and couldn't finish. The skinned chicken fell of the bone and so tasty (comes with hard boiled egg if you want). The stewed beef (Key Yesiga Wott) was amazing and first thing I finished. If you want to order one thing...this is it. The red lentils was also very filling and so good. The meat combo comes with Yatakelt Wott which is a stewed cabbage, carrots and potatoes. Prices have increased and not listed on menu. Just ask for the price if concerned. This is my favorite Ethiopian spot and will hope to be one of Ms. Aboie's loyal followers.

Platter for 2. There was more but we had already started enjoying the meal!!

Wow, such a gem. I almost don't want to write a review alerting people to how great this place is but i want them to have all the business so i shall sing their praises. Queen of Sheba is in a strip mall with not many tables. But we walked in on a Friday and didn't wait at all. Still, a fairly steady busy crowd. Keep that in mind as you wait for your food as this is a small operation and the food is clearly made with attention and love. We started with the Fo-ol medemas, had some honey wine, and the queens dinner for 2. The Fo-ol was a great starter, as the veggies and feta was fresh and lovely. Honey wine wasn't overly sweet which is exactly how we liked it. It was made with unique spices and was light and refreshing. Lastly, the dinner course. We loved every component as each was made so juicy and flavorful. The only sad part for us is that this place isn't closer to where we live, otherwise we'd be here weekly. Check out this local small business and support, you won't be sorry! Also, the sweet lady was so kind. She loved that we finished our food which made the whole experience feel like dinner at grandmas.

We went with a group most of whom had never (myself included) eaten Ethiopian food. The restaurant is run by one woman. She is cook, server and host. We decided to order a vegetarian and a meat combo. As a group of eight we were barely able to finish the food. It was excellent food and an adventure to eat it. Not knowing exactly what each dish was didn't detract from how good the food was. We felt welcomed and looked after, even after we stayed beyond closing time. Overall this was a great experience and I'd highly recommend trying this restaurant.

Finally tried the Ethiopian food at Queen of Sheba on E Colfax -- and what a treasure this spot is! The owner is a lovely lady who is also your bartender, server, and cook in this cozy little spot that feels like you're eating in her home dining room. All the meats are delicious, as well as the lentils and potatoes for my vegetarian folks! Gluten-free injera available if you call ahead a few days. Call for a reservation! There's a total of maybe 6 tables here, so it's a must.

Veggie platter -- three kinds of lentils, greens, cauliflower and light-as-air injera. So good!

But don't overlook Lucy near Colfax/Quebec - it's full of fresh and flavorful (and also filling) favorites served in a clean and inviting space. One of my favorite offerings there is the chicken stirfry known as Yedoro Tibs in Amharic and Nay Tibsi Derho in Tigrinya. Redolent with the spice mixture Berbere and sided with soft supple rounds of the teff-based flatbread variously called Injera or Tayta, the dish is served in plentiful portions, ensuring that prospective diners will be suitably satiated. However, I can also attest to the potato stew (Yedinich Wot / Tsebhi Dinish) I sampled on my most recent visit to Lucy. This dish is a bit more mild, utilizing seasonings such as turmeric and ginger for a mellower mouthfeel. Nevertheless, the savory sauce is still a worthy accompaniment to the sizable chunks of potato and carrot which can be found within it. I was very pleased by my meal. But honestly, anything you try at Lucy is sure to be a winner, so stop by and check out one of Colfax's less-heralded Habesha gems.

I would like to say if it's your first time just know the "bread" ingera is more sour-ish and is kind of an acquired taste. I would say I have been here many many times now and have taken to go and eaten in small groups and bigger groups. I would say the area is definitely very beautiful and cultural. The take out doesn't really give you the experience so I would say eating there is better. I wouldn't say costumer service is above and beyond but they definitely are nice and have helped us taking out food to go and check on us to see how we're doing. The food is definitely more expensive than I would wish but lots of time and effort go into making the food so it is nice to splurge on this kind of food. Now since I have been here many times, every time the food is amazing and hot (not spicy hot but temp hot) waiting time isn't too long and it's usually nice and quiet enough to hear your friends not too quiet where you can hear a pen drop. FYI they are not welcome to outside food/drink in case one person wants other food.

Had I ordered without the rice, it would have only been $6.00. Prices like that are almost unseen these days! The Kik Alicia was nicely seasoned and mild (not spicy), and was the perfect protein for me. Service was also super fast, too! When we get there at 5:45, we notice that the food is packed up in a medium (9"x13") sized aluminum pan with lid. In the past we'd gotten our meals in two styrofoam take out boxes with plenty of food so I was initially excited to see the new packaging because I believed the quantity would be the same or more. We get home 5 mins later and were sorely disappointed by our order. There were plenty of lentils but the orange ones were undercooked and lacked flavor. There were only about two bites of the collard greens/Gomen wat. And usually Mama África supplies more potatoes spears with their carrot and cabbage side, this time, we also only got two bites of the cabbage, no potatoes. Not to mention, the green beans were definitely canned and had no additional flavor to them. We asked for a side of chickpea soup/shiro wat and were disappointed to find that it too lacked flavor and was mostly oil. The worst part in addition to all the above was that the food was cold and the injera tasted stale and lacked its usual sourness. To add insult to injury, the meal was nearly 70 dollars in total for something that barely fed one person. This was the first time I ever wanted to ask for a refund for our food because we barely received one portion of the veggie combo, not the two we paid for. I hate to leave a one star review for a small business but the quality and quantity of food went down drastically.
