First time trying Ethiopian food and what do I get? A mold infested side item with my meal. I attempted to resolve this matter with the manager, I was told he wasn't in. I stated I wanted to leave a complaint and explained I ordered takeout through UBEREATS. I was blatantly lied to saying no order was fulfilled through UBEREATS when I have the receipt and order number stating otherwise. DO NOT EAT HERE. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LIFE AND EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Conveniently situated next to Tana Grocery (see previous review), Addis Ababa Restaurant will take you on an Abyssinian adventure. The delightful and charming staff fully intend to "wow" you with a number of seldom-seen (in Denver, anyway) dishes. The Suff Fitfit takes firm. juicy chopped tomatoes and spicy pepper chunks and mixes them with bits of springy Injera bread, then douses the whole thing in a hearty sauce made from ground sunflower seeds. A healthy salad comes alongside with more of those tomatoes and peppers as well as red onions and lettuce. The Qurt, by contrast, takes the usually-served-raw beef dish called Kitfo and brings it to a whole new level by using even-yummier prime cuts. Served with the incendiary spice mixture called Awaze, this one is sure to stick in your subconscious - but remember to give the restaurant advance notice! And if you really can't decide - why not mull over the Mahberawy? This combination treats you to huge portions of two meat dishes and even more vegetable ones. Believe me, you will not be hungry after this. There is also quite an extensive breakfast menu (please note that the eatery opens at 11 am), with offerings ranging from the porridge called Bula Genfo, made with enset (false banana plant) starch, to the Oromo specialty Chechebsa, tossing chunks of Kita (toothsome wheat bread) with clarified butter and zesty Berbere seasoning. Truly, a gastronomic odyssey awaits you at Addis Ababa.

I'm going to rate this 4star for service alone. The food was fresh and hot, so that deserves 4stars as well. And it was clean. But I don't think I'm in love with Ethiopian food. Actually I loved each item that was on the vegetarian sampler plate I ordered, except for the "bread"/pancake thing. To unusual for me, but perhaps it is an acquired taste. And...no silverware... Guess I'm just a white girl! I love seeing entrepreneurs and this is obviously one from Ethiopia. That alone, I love! All the best to this owner! If you're looking for something new, different and off the beaten track this could be the place for you. By no means is it fancy, but truly authentic!

Ethiopian coffee is the best I have had!

Soooooo good!!!!!! I have the beef tips and the red lentils and it was amazing. I am not a vegetarian but if you are they have a tone of options for you. And of course for the meat lovers you know they have us covered. I was extremely impressed. Out side is not the most appealing but this is the hole in the wall you are looking for if you want Ethiopian food.

And the really added extra that made the meal so special is the warm and welcoming personality of the owner. I hope many people reading this will try this terrific restaurant.

This used to be our favorite Ethiopian spot until our most recent take out experience…read more We called to order two vegetarian combos at 5:30 and were told told to come in pick up at 5:45. When we get there at 5:45, we notice that the food is packed up in a medium (9"x13") sized aluminum pan with lid. In the past we'd gotten our meals in two styrofoam take out boxes with plenty of food so I was initially excited to see the new packaging because I believed the quantity would be the same or more. We get home 5 mins later and were sorely disappointed by our order. There were plenty of lentils but the orange ones were undercooked and lacked flavor. There were only about two bites of the collard greens/Gomen wat. And usually Mama África supplies more potatoes spears with their carrot and cabbage side, this time, we also only got two bites of the cabbage, no potatoes. Not to mention, the green beans were definitely canned and had no additional flavor to them. We asked for a side of chickpea soup/shiro wat and were disappointed to find that it too lacked flavor and was mostly oil. The worst part in addition to all the above was that the food was cold and the injera tasted stale and lacked its usual sourness. To add insult to injury, the meal was nearly 70 dollars in total for something that barely fed one person. This was the first time I ever wanted to ask for a refund for our food because we barely received one portion of the veggie combo, not the two we paid for. I hate to leave a one star review for a small business but the quality and quantity of food went down drastically.

The owner was there that day and talked to us about our experience and shared details about how they make their Injera and how when done traditionally, it is fermented and made with teff flour rather than wheat. She also mentioned that some Ethiopian restaurants don't make it the traditional way and asked us to see if we noticed a difference in the taste and how heavy things felt after eating. She was absolutely right. Their food was delicious and their Injera not only tasted better but it also did not leave us with that uncomfortably full and heavy sensation. This has now become a favorite for both my husband and I. All of the food is delicious and authentic. My husband is a meat eater and I am a vegan and we both find wonderful, enjoyable food to eat here. The service is great as well!

But don't overlook Lucy near Colfax/Quebec - it's full of fresh and flavorful (and also filling) favorites served in a clean and inviting space. One of my favorite offerings there is the chicken stirfry known as Yedoro Tibs in Amharic and Nay Tibsi Derho in Tigrinya. Redolent with the spice mixture Berbere and sided with soft supple rounds of the teff-based flatbread variously called Injera or Tayta, the dish is served in plentiful portions, ensuring that prospective diners will be suitably satiated. However, I can also attest to the potato stew (Yedinich Wot / Tsebhi Dinish) I sampled on my most recent visit to Lucy. This dish is a bit more mild, utilizing seasonings such as turmeric and ginger for a mellower mouthfeel. Nevertheless, the savory sauce is still a worthy accompaniment to the sizable chunks of potato and carrot which can be found within it. I was very pleased by my meal. But honestly, anything you try at Lucy is sure to be a winner, so stop by and check out one of Colfax's less-heralded Habesha gems.

I would like to say if it's your first time just know the "bread" ingera is more sour-ish and is kind of an acquired taste. I would say I have been here many many times now and have taken to go and eaten in small groups and bigger groups. I would say the area is definitely very beautiful and cultural. The take out doesn't really give you the experience so I would say eating there is better. I wouldn't say costumer service is above and beyond but they definitely are nice and have helped us taking out food to go and check on us to see how we're doing. The food is definitely more expensive than I would wish but lots of time and effort go into making the food so it is nice to splurge on this kind of food. Now since I have been here many times, every time the food is amazing and hot (not spicy hot but temp hot) waiting time isn't too long and it's usually nice and quiet enough to hear your friends not too quiet where you can hear a pen drop. FYI they are not welcome to outside food/drink in case one person wants other food.
