    Meat combo
    Cassie P.

Ethiopian food is my absolute fave and one of the reasons I was excited to move back to Denver, as there is no shortage of great Ethiopian eats in the 303. Amid this COVID era, I was excited to find that Addis Ababa delivers to me. We've ordered it twice so far and have had very solid experiences. At any Ethiopian restaurant, I tend to go for the veggie and meat combos, as I really do love everything on the menu and this is a solid way to try it all. If I had to play favorites, I'd say that the kik alicha (split yellow peas), atakilt wot (cabbage, carrots, and potatoes), split red lentils, and beef tibs are the offerings you have to fight me for. One veggie plus one meat combo is enough for my husband and I to end up more than full. We usually start with vegetable sambusas as well. It all ends up around $40 which is a good deal in my book. I would definitely love to check out this restaurant IRL once the pandemic is behind us but for now, I'm thankful I can get their tasty eats delivered right to me!

First time trying Ethiopian food and what do I get? A mold infested side item with my meal. I attempted to resolve this matter with the manager, I was told he wasn't in. I stated I wanted to leave a complaint and explained I ordered takeout through UBEREATS. I was blatantly lied to saying no order was fulfilled through UBEREATS when I have the receipt and order number stating otherwise. DO NOT EAT HERE. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LIFE AND EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Conveniently situated next to Tana Grocery (see previous review), Addis Ababa Restaurant will take you on an Abyssinian adventure. The delightful and charming staff fully intend to "wow" you with a number of seldom-seen (in Denver, anyway) dishes. The Suff Fitfit takes firm. juicy chopped tomatoes and spicy pepper chunks and mixes them with bits of springy Injera bread, then douses the whole thing in a hearty sauce made from ground sunflower seeds. A healthy salad comes alongside with more of those tomatoes and peppers as well as red onions and lettuce. The Qurt, by contrast, takes the usually-served-raw beef dish called Kitfo and brings it to a whole new level by using even-yummier prime cuts. Served with the incendiary spice mixture called Awaze, this one is sure to stick in your subconscious - but remember to give the restaurant advance notice! And if you really can't decide - why not mull over the Mahberawy? This combination treats you to huge portions of two meat dishes and even more vegetable ones. Believe me, you will not be hungry after this. There is also quite an extensive breakfast menu (please note that the eatery opens at 11 am), with offerings ranging from the porridge called Bula Genfo, made with enset (false banana plant) starch, to the Oromo specialty Chechebsa, tossing chunks of Kita (toothsome wheat bread) with clarified butter and zesty Berbere seasoning. Truly, a gastronomic odyssey awaits you at Addis Ababa.

I'm going to rate this 4star for service alone. The food was fresh and hot, so that deserves 4stars as well. And it was clean. But I don't think I'm in love with Ethiopian food. Actually I loved each item that was on the vegetarian sampler plate I ordered, except for the "bread"/pancake thing. To unusual for me, but perhaps it is an acquired taste. And...no silverware... Guess I'm just a white girl! I love seeing entrepreneurs and this is obviously one from Ethiopia. That alone, I love! All the best to this owner! If you're looking for something new, different and off the beaten track this could be the place for you. By no means is it fancy, but truly authentic!

Soooooo good!!!!!! I have the beef tips and the red lentils and it was amazing. I am not a vegetarian but if you are they have a tone of options for you. And of course for the meat lovers you know they have us covered. I was extremely impressed. Out side is not the most appealing but this is the hole in the wall you are looking for if you want Ethiopian food.

This used to be our favorite Ethiopian spot until our most recent take out experience…read more We called to order two vegetarian combos at 5:30 and were told told to come in pick up at 5:45. When we get there at 5:45, we notice that the food is packed up in a medium (9"x13") sized aluminum pan with lid. In the past we'd gotten our meals in two styrofoam take out boxes with plenty of food so I was initially excited to see the new packaging because I believed the quantity would be the same or more. We get home 5 mins later and were sorely disappointed by our order. There were plenty of lentils but the orange ones were undercooked and lacked flavor. There were only about two bites of the collard greens/Gomen wat. And usually Mama África supplies more potatoes spears with their carrot and cabbage side, this time, we also only got two bites of the cabbage, no potatoes. Not to mention, the green beans were definitely canned and had no additional flavor to them. We asked for a side of chickpea soup/shiro wat and were disappointed to find that it too lacked flavor and was mostly oil. The worst part in addition to all the above was that the food was cold and the injera tasted stale and lacked its usual sourness. To add insult to injury, the meal was nearly 70 dollars in total for something that barely fed one person. This was the first time I ever wanted to ask for a refund for our food because we barely received one portion of the veggie combo, not the two we paid for. I hate to leave a one star review for a small business but the quality and quantity of food went down drastically.

The food took a LONG time, we got there when they opened and the food took a little over an hour to arrive. We were the first party in and maybe the 4th party to get our food. We ordered the vegetarian combo plate to share with the Beef Derek Tibs and Beef Lega Tibs. Lots of African customers in the restaurant for birthday celebration so I'm sure they are legit. We were told that they were the best Ethiopian food in Denver. The Ethiopian spiced tea was also yummy. Definitely a treat!

We ordered the Lamb Tibs and the Veggie Combo, and both were out of this world. The lamb was perfectly seasoned and tender, the veggie combo was full of flavor, and of course everything was scooped up with plenty of that soft, spongy injera bread. Honestly, the injera alone is worth the trip -- it ties all the flavors together and makes the whole meal feel like an experience. The restaurant is spotless, cozy, and welcoming, and the staff made us feel right at home. Thanks to one of my side hustle shifts I worked yesterday. Had I not gotten the shift assignment,…read morethis restaurant would have forever been unknown to me even though the long stretch of Havana Street has so many unique restaurants on both side and yet, past the 6th Ave where the restaurant is located had still been an unknown territory for me. I was definitely overdue for a good Ethiopian food so when I found it, I got excited. I intentionally left the house early enough so I could stop here and get me some food before my shift. And it all worked out well. Yesterday's takeout experience was met with so much goodness. I... -Was warmly greeted upon entering the restaurant by two women. -Was the only customer during the non-rush hour time between lunch and dinner. -Was able to place my order immediately as I had the full attention from one of the ladies upfront. -Waited good 15+ minutes and yet, this meant that the kitchen carefully prepared my food. -Received thorough explanation from the same lady (who took my order) as she opened each container to explain what I got. Service was top-notch here. Once I got to my car, I opened the two containers to take a close took at them. I also wanted to take some photos of my beautiful food. What I got were.... -Vegetarian Combo ($19.99) that comes with red lentil stew, split pea mild stew, powdered chickpea stew, carrots and cabbage with potato, collard greens, beetroot and salad. This whole dish was covered with extra layers of injera fermented bread that are/were gluten free. The whole container was so heavy. This was easily way more than what I paid for. And it was probably the best Ethiopian vegetarian plate with all sorts of delightfulness in this massive dish. -Two pieces of Veggie Sambusas (lentil based); this came with a mini salad. Deep-fried sambusas were nice and beautifully brown. And they were so crispy. The heat from the cooking was still felt when I ate them about 10 minutes later. Let's not forget to mention. The restaurant looks very unassuming on the outside. Although the front of it had a colorful green and red signage with restaurant name on it, once inside, it looks small and yet you will be surprised how spacious inside is. Although it's not fancy or modern in any way, it's clean with simpleness. And here and there, there are Ethiopian art decors on the walls which will (I'm pretty sure) capture your attention. You should take the time to look at them as they are quite beautiful. Not to mention, ample seatings are seen in the dining area; the bar is quite large as well. And they do serve alcohol. This is definitely and by far the best Ethiopian restaurant in the Denver metro area (in my opinion). The welcoming host (is this a woman owned business??) that will truly appreciate your business but most of all, the quality and hearty food that will entertain your palates..all sorts of goodness will mesmerize you for sure. This place will justify the miles you will drive to get to it even if you live a bit far from it. Give it a try!

I ate the food too quickly to take a picture of it. Truly remarkable service and a home kitchen…read moretype ambiance that has made this my go-to Ethiopian spot for all time.
