My lady kept raving about this place and I haven't been to an Ethiopian restaurant since my friends mom owned one. The people were very nice, the tables were dirty. We got 2 $74 platters, this came on one plate and to me seemed not worth $150 at all but time is hard and the price of groceries are high so I looked past only getting 2 small chicken drum sticks in a platter for 4 lol. My main things that made me not want to go back is the dirty table they sat us at and also the COLD SPONGE Bread! Some of it was even hard like it had been sitting out. And when the very nice older lady came to show us how to eat with our hands she tried to feed me with her dirty hands and also had food in her mouth and I swear a chunk flew out when she was talking . I entered Ras Kassa's with an empty stomach and high hopes, and to say that I left satisfied would be a understatement. The flavor of the beef and chicken exploded in my mouth and the lamb lowkey rendered me and my friends nonverbal for a few minutes because it was so good and so filling. My gratitude goes out to Mr. Kassa. The waiter was kind enough to bring us a complimentary brownie and we did not waste the opportunity! They have the most beautiful and infectious smiles that light up the room. You can tell that they have so much pride for what they do, how they serve and the food they share with the parties that walk through their door. My party of three decided to share the Feast for Two and Golden Sambussa. And "don't worry" it was more than enough food for us three and "every little thing" was more than alright! The Golden Sambussa's were crisp, warm and perfectly fried. They had such a great texture! I gobbled two up in a blink but was still ready for the Feast for Two, which included Hummus Appetizer / Farmer's Cheese Floret / Mild Lamb Stew / Spicy Chicken Stew / Spicy Beef Stew / Spicy Red Lentils / Collard Greens and Potatoes / Carrot Salad / Dessert to Share / + 2 beers, cocktails or drinks. So amazing!! This place has been around for decades (albeit 3 different locations). The wonderful ladies (family restaurant) apparently don't age because they are the same warm, smiling people from 1996 when I first ate here. Full disclosure, I love this type of food and it did not disappoint. Food to be eaten without silverware on delicious spongy bread with taste bud exploding entrees = happy belly. My son had trout and I had spicy lentils - ugh, so freaking good. We added mango juice and an Ethiopian margarita with "secret" ingredients - had to have two of those If you like ethnic food go directly here for a party in your mouth you won't regret!! read more

Veg*ns can always find something suitable when dining at Ethiopian establishments. Ras Kassa's was no exception. VEGGIE SAMBUSSA - lentil-filled pastry. It was good, but they don't serve theirs with the spicy sauce that typically accompanies this appetizer at other Ethiopian restaurants. Needs sauce! HERBED HUMMUS - very tasty hummus. I suggest scooping it up with some miser wot for an explosion of flavor on your taste buds. VEGETABLE PLATTER - unlike other locations, they don't offer a veggie platter that includes all of the best/popular veggies, which is always miser wot, tikil gomen, gomen, and fosolia. Here, if you want to get all of those you'll have to either order them separately at $15 per dish, or order 2 combo plates at $17 each, the latter of which I had to do. I got the SPICY VEGETARIAN and the VEGETARIAN combo platters. I didn't care for their split peas or the little shredded carrot pile that they put on the platter. The mixed vegetable stew, comprised of sweet potatoes, didn't win me over either. The fosolia, miser wot, gomen, and tikil gomen were delicious. They could easily rectify the combo platter drama by offering a pick 4 for $, or something similar. There is room for improvement but overall it's a good option for dining out. read more

One of the family members had never had Ethiopian food and really enjoyed it. The two favorites were the spicy sweet potato dish (not that spicy) and the yebeg alecha - lamb stew. Allot of food and they bring more injera throughout the meal. If you have meat and vegetarian/vegans make sure to tell the wait staff as the food is served on one large platter. I've loved Ras Kassa's from their previous Boulder location, through their takeout-only version out of a hotel in South Boulder, and now my first visit to this new location. It's still the same delicious, wide-ranging, approachable Ethiopian food with ridiculously friendly service. The space has been done well, modern interior with lots of decorative flair. I'd recommend everything I've ever eaten here, but the trout was an unexpected highlight. My party of three adults and one 4-year-old shared three entrees (no appetizers/desserts), and we all left stuffed. Prices are about 25% higher than the several Ethiopian restaurants along East Colfax, but that's understandable given the relatively higher costs of Boulder County. read more

Last time I came here they were at a different location in Boulder, and the sweet owners as well as the food have not changed! Good overall. We ordered the all meat combination with chicken, lamb, and beef. We also got the vegetarian combo with spicy lentils, mixed vegetables, and yellow split peas. The food comes on a tray to share between people. I asked for a spoon - seeing that someone else had one - and was told that you're required to eat with injera (bread) and that only gluten-free customers receive a spoon. A little disappointing because I'm not comfortable with this and the restaurant and hospitality businesses should cater to their customers. Anyway, a little pricey for what we received, but good overall. We finished our meal with Ethiopian coffee and Rosebud & Herb tea. I would recommend the tea and coffee! :-) read more

We recently moved to the area and I was so happy I found this place, since Ethiopian is my favorite food. We went with my friends to celebrate my birthday and honestly it was really good. However, when I asked for a spoon and a plate, the lady told me they didn't serve spoons nor plates. I've been to multiple Ethiopian restaurants, I know it's traditionally eaten with your hands, however I don't like eating with my hands. I'm pregnant and I'm very sensitive to smells, and my hands can smell for days, so I really dislike it. Every place I've been, they always bring me a spoon regardless. Well, not here. The lady gave me a hard time, on my birthday and refused to bring me a spoon, she was sassy and made me feel like I was crazy for asking for it. She said "everybody asks for one, but we don't serve them". I honestly thought they didn't have any cutlery. However, when we brought the dessert it came with a spoon and a plate... so I told her I thought you guys didn't have this. And she said: "you didn't understand me, we don't SERVE with spoons" ... making me feel dumb. I asked her why? She said "it's tradition". I asked if she could make an exception and she said she wasn't the owner and left. Her attitude was what really disappointed me. I thought I have found my favorite restaurant, where I can become a regular, like the other places I lived. I'm trying not to let her ruin my birthday, but it was definitely a sour feeling at the end of the dinner. read more

Very mediocre food/service and won't be going back. The chicken was rather tough and its sauce was not flavorful at all. The vegetable sambusas didn't taste all that great (lentils might have been canned but definitely didn't taste fresh). The cabbage and potato were ok - not great but not bad. Actually, I think the cabbage was my favorite part of the meal. As for the service, well, the lady was very nice, but I originally got 2 drink menus and no food menu, it took maybe 10 mins to get my water, and the service was just slow. I wouldn't say the service was bad, but it also wasn't great. Again, pretty mediocre. As for the prices, I spent $34 to fill up for lunch (with tax and tip) and honestly I'm still a bit hungry. I do eat a fair amount, but it still feels a bit expensive for what you get... All in all, nothing about this place gave me a reason to want to come back. The food didn't stand out. The service didn't stand out. It was a bit over-priced. And the ambiance didn't stand out. read more
