Highly recommend if you're in the area. Mimi the owner is so warm and welcoming. 10/10 service. The food was super filling. I'd love to visit when I'm back in the area again.

When I called to place an order, Mimi took care of us and recommended a veggie platter and meat platter. I just went with her recommendation because I have never had Ethiopian food before. When I arrived to pick up the food, the ambiance inside was warm and inviting with the music and incense, and Mimi was very kind and friendly. The food was also incredibly delicious and comforting. I will definitely be coming back

I'm from Hawaii and the only Ethiopian restaurant there closed a few years ago. I've always enjoyed it and I'm glad to discover Gursha Ethiopian Restaurant on the 9th Island. The food came out quickly, Mimi, the owner is super friendly, and the food... The food is amazing. I had the veggie sampler (of course) and the awaze tibs. The tibs was spicier than they made it back home, but I love spicy food. I asked Mimi what Gursha means, and it means feeding each other. It's a tradition to share good food with everyone on your table. Yum! I'll be back for sure.

Simple and quiet inside. Mimi extended very warm hospitality. It was our first time having Ethiopian food and what a good place to experience it for the first time. We shared a veg platter and golden beef tips. All the veg was absolutely delicious. We finished with tiramisu which was also good, Mimi picked it out for us. Absolutely suggest checking it out.

Gursha is a hidden gem that deserves the hype it has received. I did takeout (veggie platter) and was helped by the owner herself! She was absolutely sweet and came out to say hi to my puppy that was in the car. Everything was absolutely delightful/fresh tasting and really appreciate the injara to veggies ratio. Not sure of the item in red, but that item was absolute perfection!

ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!! I can't say enough good things about this place. The flavor is undescribable. Every single bite is literally cooked to absolute perfection. This is hands-down of one of my new favorite places Mimi the owner is super nice and welcoming. The environment is really cute. It's an absolute must go. I will say it's good to call for a reservation because you might get turned away if you don't have one as it's a small intimate place.

Authentic Ethiopian food, just what we were looking for! Excellent service. We had the veggie platter which offers a variety of excellent dishes. Be prepared to eat with your fingers, part of the authentic experience! Call ahead 48 hours to get gluten free injera.

First time at this Ethiopian restaurant. Decided to try this on Monday night. The ambiance is dimly lit restaurant , with not the most spacious seating. They weren't busy at all so we were served attended to right away. The server was very friendly and gave us suggestions on what to order. We ordered the awaze tibs, and lamb meat dish. Both were very flavorful and tender. I thought the awaze tibs were better overall. It was nice trying out this hidden gem. Although they were out of a few side dishes that I wanted such as rice ; I'd still come back and give them another try.

this genuinely upset me. Lucy's would NEVER do this. this veggie platter cost over 30 dollars to deliver pls tell me why this is all that it comes with. the uber eats has no photos of the food but to think that they think this is sufficient for that price is disturbing. where is the VARIETY ?!?! and it wasnt even good , like it all. it tastes sour + undone.

Came in here to get my Ethiopian fix and it did not let down. Sambusas - berbere in oil sauce was on point Veggie platter - I don't know what's what, but I always love me a combo veggie platter Goden tibs (short ribs) - flavor wise was good, but they were a little overcooked Awaze tibs - tried this to get something different. Very saucy Kitfo - this meat with the cheese and additional spice on top is one of my favorites (have to request the spice on the side) -the menu seems small compared to other Ethopian restaurants that I have been to, but they have everything I crave

We were greeted by a waiter the moment we walked in. The vibe was nice, the restaurant is very clean and my family loved their tibs, it was very tender, homemade, and extremely flavorful. The restaurant just had a very homey feel with a very very respectful hostess who was so kind to my grandWe ate in and took an order to go!

Ask the Community - Gursha Ethiopian Restaurant

Is the injera here gluten-free or do they add barley, rye or wheat to their injera as a filler?

I called Gursha on 2/7/24. The woman I spoke with said their injera is made with 10 percent barley, so not gluten-free.

Located on Decatur and Flamingo in an unassuming shopping center, it's the kind of place you pretty much need to know about to find. You're really not going to spot it from the road, so plug it into your GPS and follow the guidance and the smells to this terrific gem. I've only ever been at lunch and never found it to be very busy. There are always tables full of people enjoying great food, however, and they have a lot of space to spread out so I can't say that you'd have to wait very long if there were a line. They have tables for parties of all sizes as well as traditional Ethiopian baskets you can sit around and dine from. I've not experienced that here yet. The staff is super friendly and, you can tell how passionate they are about the food. Attentive service. I never want for anything. If you've never dined at an Ethiopian restaurant before you're in for an experience. Food is served in piles on large platters and there are not forks, knives, or spoons. You tear off pieces of injera, a slightly sour fermented pancake-like flatbread with a slightly spongy texture, traditionally made of teff flour, and dig into the piles with your hands. It's a truly tactile experience and really, I think, adds to the uniqueness of the food. (Note they have handwashing stations so you and your party can ensure clean fingers when eating off of the same platter. There are both meat and non-meat options. I always gravitate to the vegetarian options when I come and am always completely satisfied. Piles of lentils, peas, cabbage, beets, greens, and salad are perfectly spiced...some quite mild and others with a slight spicy bite. Nothing too picante although the salad does have sliced jalapeño in it so be mindful of that if you're not a fan of spicy. Aromatic flavors and textures will leave you wanting more. I always love visiting here and encourage you to visit. So, so good!

The portion is huge so be prepared to share and still have leftovers to take home. My favorites were the beef with onions and meat in green sauce. For veggies, I loved the greens and steamed spinach. Simple and clean to enjoy between the other flavors on the plate. I do wish the yellow and green lentils had more spices/ seasoning since they were a little bland. Overall a great platter though. The lentil samosa is also delish!

It was after 2 pm on a Sunday when we walked in. The restaurant and market was empty, and the side room to the right was also empty. Someone came out and we indicated a party of four and she motioned to the tables. The tables are all two tops, so she had to pull two round tables together for us. It's a smaller restaurant area than other Ethiopian restaurants in town. The side room looks like it could be used for coffee ceremonies? She gave us menus and took our drink orders. They only offer bottled water for $2 each as tap isn't available. And regular sodas were in the fridge. We put our usual order in: * Mixed Vegetarian Platter $20.99 - This includes red lentils, split yellow peas, cabbage with carrots, collard greens, green beans with carrots and red beets with potatoes. When this arrived, we dug right in and our favorite was the red lentils right off the bat. I did enjoy all their vegetarian offerings though as it was really flavorful. * Kitfo $20.99 - We ordered their minced lean beef raw versus medium or well done. It also came with cottage cheese and Ethiopian style collard greens. Their version of kitfo was really flavorful, probably one of the better ones we've had. I was really impressed from the first bite. We really enjoyed the food and got our fill and left very full. There wasn't anything particularly memorable about the service but the food stood out and we left quite happy and content. I would return!

The owner of the cafe was very accommodating and made wonderful conversation. Traditionally, Ethiopian coffee takes a good while before it's prepared and ready to drink, and that's true here. This is because the coffee beans are roasted fresh, ground, then slowly boiled in a traditional black clay pot to extract all the flavors. Back in Ethiopia this gives time for family and friends to socialize and enjoy each other's company as the coffee is getting ready. If you're in a rush then this isn't what you're looking for, but if you have some free time and want to hang out this is perfect. Be warned, Ethiopian coffee is STRONG. If you're sensitive to caffeine and really want to try some I suggest eating something here (they have a lot of different snacks and Ethiopian food) first and then having some traditional coffee so the caffeine is released into your system slower.
