I am a huge fan of Ethiopian food and I am so delighted that Lucy Ethiopian is one of the best here in Las Vegas. Located on Decatur and Flamingo in an unassuming shopping center, it's the kind of place you pretty much need to know about to find. You're really not going to spot it from the road, so plug it into your GPS and follow the guidance and the smells to this terrific gem. I've only ever been at lunch and never found it to be very busy. There are always tables full of people enjoying great food, however, and they have a lot of space to spread out so I can't say that you'd have to wait very long if there were a line. They have tables for parties of all sizes as well as traditional Ethiopian baskets you can sit around and dine from. I've not experienced that here yet. The staff is super friendly and, you can tell how passionate they are about the food. Attentive service. I never want for anything. If you've never dined at an Ethiopian restaurant before you're in for an experience. Food is served in piles on large platters and there are not forks, knives, or spoons. You tear off pieces of injera, a slightly sour fermented pancake-like flatbread with a slightly spongy texture, traditionally made of teff flour, and dig into the piles with your hands. It's a truly tactile experience and really, I think, adds to the uniqueness of the food. (Note they have handwashing stations so you and your party can ensure clean fingers when eating off of the same platter. There are both meat and non-meat options. I always gravitate to the vegetarian options when I come and am always completely satisfied. Piles of lentils, peas, cabbage, beets, greens, and salad are perfectly spiced...some quite mild and others with a slight spicy bite. Nothing too picante although the salad does have sliced jalapeño in it so be mindful of that if you're not a fan of spicy. Aromatic flavors and textures will leave you wanting more. Delicious food, lovely staff and convenient location. I haven't had Ethiopian food in a while, so instead of choosing one dish, I opted for the half meat/ half veggie platter. The portion is huge so be prepared to share and still have leftovers to take home. My favorites were the beef with onions and meat in green sauce. For veggies, I loved the greens and steamed spinach. Simple and clean to enjoy between the other flavors on the plate. I do wish the yellow and green lentils had more spices/ seasoning since they were a little bland. Overall a great platter though. I wasn't even planning on dinner yet at the time I happened-by Lucy's, but the thought of Ethiopian food made me turn around and head to their location around 5 PM on a Sunday. They are located in a rather seedy old strip mall that could probably should scare some people off, at least at night, and the restaurant does tend to fit in with the surroundings, unfortunately. But I'm there for the food and service, not any aesthetics. I've got about 30 years experience with a variety of Ethiopian restaurants across the country, and one thing that surprised me here is they don't hand you a hot wet towel to wash the hands you are about to use to eat your food with so I will point out that they have a bathroom style sink located on the far side of a wall in the restaurant. Near the bathrooms. They don't bother to tell you about it and you would not know it was there. There were just a few other customers in the restaurant at the time I walked in, most looked to be of African or perhaps specifically Ethiopian descent, which for me is a good sign if you're looking for authentic food. The outdoor bar seating area is apparently a popular hangout for Ethiopian taxi drivers taking a break. If you're looking for a lot of Ethiopian ambience, this is not the place for you, however, if you're looking for an authentic (which can be good, and bad...) typical Ethiopian dining experience, complete with a lot of local patronage, this may be the spot for you... Being a vegetarian, I ordered their vegetarian platter -- kinda expensive at $25 for one person, but not a whole lot of other choices for me and by now I was just really salivating so the cost wasn't a big factor. I've also learned to love, Ethiopian spiced tea, either hot or cold, but it seems like this place did not have it and instead, I ordered a ginger tea, hoping it would be the same thing. My vegetarian platter and a bowl of injera arrived about 15 minutes after ordering, however, the tea was nowhere to be seen, and they did not give me nor ask me if I would like a glass of water.... The small cup of ginger tea showed-up around 8 minutes after my food did, and I was never asked if I wanted more tea. Unfortunately, their ginger tea was not the wonderful Ethiopian spiced tea that I've had at numerous other Ethiopian restaurants. The portion quantity of the vegetarian platter was pretty good, though maybe it's just me, but I do think it was overpriced by at least $10. As other reviewers have already mentioned, there was some flavoring to it, but Lucy's doesn't seem to do a great job with the spice levels. I finished off the small basket of injera and was never asked if I wanted more. That's not too big of a deal however, because as you may know, the platter of miscellaneous vegetables is sitting at top a bed of Anura and so half the fun towards the end of the meal is wrapping that layer of injure up and eating everything like it were a burrito.. I do like to eat, but I am happy to say that I could not finish the entire vegetarian platter myself so I was given a box and bag to put the leftover amount into. I found it strange how I was given the box for the leftovers fairly promptly, but then after that was packaged, it took about 10 minutes before I was finally given the bill. Again, there were just a couple other diners in there at the time. Overall, service was about a 2.5 out of 5, food was a 3. Overall experience about a 2.75. While I would not hesitate to return whenever my food craving exceeds my financial sensibilities, I need to check out the couple other Ethiopian restaurants in the area and I think it is quite likely I will find one that I prefer. read more

We are in Las Vegas for the AWS and been wanting to try this place. Glad we went! We hoped to get our regular order of veggie combo and. Doro Tibs. The person taking our order said they only had a beef version, not chicken. It was still very good. Later we were talking to Hana (co owner) after our meal and she said that they don't have it on the menu but they can make almost any beef dish into a chicken dish including making Doro Tibs. So we know we could do that next time. But even more surprising was we found out that the other co- owner, Weltu ) is the brother of Zeni, the owner of Zeni's which is our favorite Ethiopian restaurant back in San Jose! And he had helped get Zeni's restaurant going way back when. They then had done an Ethiopian coffee service for someone else but gave us cups to taste. Unfortunately I couldn't do more a few sips as it was late and I had to get up. But the smell from the fresh roasted beans over coals were so amazing as was the taste, I wish I could drink it all! They also were playing all sorts of modern Ethiopian music playing the whole time. So I highly recommend this place if you like Ethiopian food and culture. read more

Decided to visit family while in Vegas on recent trip. I was surprised to hear they had a growing presence of Habahsa in this community. :))) hahaaa! OK VEGAS. I also ordered 2 orders of lentil samosas. I sware after experiencing Shagga Asa Tibbs (fish) on the East Coast, nothing compares. Shagga Asa Tibbs mixed with peppers and onions are full of flavor and so juicy taste so good! Just thinking about them makes my mouth water Anyhoo, the taste of this food was just OK to me. Nothing I'd venture back for. But hey if you like it...that's all that matters. Placed my order by phone and arrived within 30 minutes and our food still wasn't ready. But it's all good. We've been coming here for years, beginning in 2017. The food used to be awesome back then. About two years ago, we visited twice and the food didn't seem as good, so we took a break. Was craving Ethiopian, so we tried again on 7/18/26. Unfortunately, the Goman was not tasty and looked like it was ground up in a food processor. Really lacked flavor. Also had Tikil Goman and it was mostly cabbage, hardly any potatoes or carrots. Also had rice w/fish, which was just ok. Service was also slow. This has been on my list to try as it was highly recommended, however, I was very disappointed. The best part of the experience was the coffee and the traditional music playing. The food lacked any flavor. The chicken and rice was dry, there was no taste to the chicken and no sauce. The salad that came with it was so spicy and had big pieces of chili so couldn't even enjoy it and was not refreshing. The veggie combo, all the lentils tasted the same and had similar texture with no flavor. Looked delicious but had no taste to it. The injera was very soggy and not enjoyable. I always loved this restaurant. We would get the Agelgil vegetarian version. Today we ordered it through DoorDash and sadly had to realize that the dish was suddenly half the size.. we had 4 tiny pieces of the beet dish in there, half a cup worth of salad, and the lentil dishes were between 3-5 tablespoons each.. this is not worth $41 and is a lot less than just 6 weeks ago.. we took the picture when we realized there was mainly injira in the dish. It's sad as the last 3 years we have been getting food from here every 6-8 weeks but if the price stays the same but portion sizes are cut in half that just doesn't make sense. read more

I have been dying to try Lucy for years but somehow never made it over there. I saw a Postmates coupon and they were listed as an option, so I bit the bullet. The only Ethiopian restaurant I've been to is Bete Lukas in Portland and I had some high expectations to live up to. I remember not liking everything on the veggie combo as I'm picky, but I was able to order sides of what I did love, which was awesome! I slightly questioned the 4oz portion cups, but it ended up being a good amount of food with leftovers. Some of the packaging was a little creative. My husband and I are both restaurant managers, so it gave us a good laugh. We ordered the misir wot, salad, kik alicha, and shiro with 2 sides of injera. We did receive two pieces with our order, so we a had a little extra. Everything was phenomenal. I would probably order the salad with just the romaine next time because I wasn't a fan of the jalapeños and tomatoes. Simply because the previous restaurant had a plain salad. So if that's the only thing I would change, I think that's pretty good! I will say what surprised me most was my husband LOVING it. Lucy's is a great establishment to try Ethopian food. No reservation is needed. We were seated instantly however, it was not a busy time when we dined. The Ambiance is full of beautiful Ethiopian decor. The food is very flavorful. Seasoned to perfection. Now there is room for improvement in the service area. After our order was taken and the food was delivered, there was no checking on us. We needed a fork to eat the salad and it took a while to track down an employee. Dining at Lucy's definitely qualifies as a unique experience, to say the least. Assuming you are not Ethiopian (as I am not), it may even seem a bit intimidating to dine there. A fun fact is about Vegas is that traditional taxicabs are often driven by Ethiopian men. They are very social with each other and are often found on the exterior patio, smoking, eating, and socializing in their native tongue. This can be rather intimidating. But fear not, simply walk past and enter the dining room. 90% of the time, the dining room is empty. The bar however is usually full. Ethiopian food, in the traditional sense does not use utensils. You pick up the meats, vegetables, eggs, and rice with injera, which is like a thicker tortilla that is more like a thin pancake. When I dine there with my kids, we usually get the Medium or large mixed plate, served family style. We often dine late, which is nice because they are open until 1am. The only major downside is the service although extremely friendly, can be a bit slow. Also, there is no free tap water. You can order no drink or bottled water. I usually get Mexican Coke in the glass bottle. Lucy's is easily the best Ethiopian restaurant in Vegas. For a unique ethnic experience I highly suggest checking them out. read more

For my second stop on my mini Ethiopian food tour, I visited Lucy's Ethiopian Restaurant and ordered the veggie platter. The injera was tasty and well made -- a little more acidic than I prefer, but still delicious. The legume stews were cooked nicely with good texture and mild flavor. The cabbage and carrot mix was tender but a bit light on seasoning, and the greens were the one real disappointment -- they seemed more like steamed spinach rather than the slow-cooked, spice-rich greens I typically expect. That said, the atmosphere here is wonderful -- lively, family-oriented, and full of energy. There's a bar and a social, welcoming vibe that makes it easy to see why people love gathering here. Overall, I'd say Lucy's is a solid second to Gursha in terms of food quality, but it's an excellent choice if you're looking for a fun, casual night out with friends or family and still want a comforting Ethiopian meal read more

We used to live in an area with a lot of Ethiopian food available and now we don't. So, during a recent trip to LV, we decided to do some food tourism. Lucy Ethiopian was near the top of our list. I'm so glad we went. It's a car ride from the strip and well worth it. When we arrived we noticed that we appeared to be the only tourists there which we deemed a very good sign. Our usual order at Ethiopian restaurants is essentially the sampler platter. That tradition continued and we could not have been more impressed. Everything was delicious and we got plenty of injera to eat it with. The veggie options were great, and we got a couple of meats with our sampler. If I remember right, there was at least one sample that was quite spicy, which I love. The service was great and we really enjoyed ourselves. As for the ambiance, think of a fairly brightly lit cafeteria-ish dining room. There's a elevated bar area with some seating and in another corner there was a coffee ceremony going on with maybe charcoal? It was a little bit smoky from that, but the smoke cleared fairly quickly. read more

Service was pretty slow and there weren't many customers at ~9pm-ish on a Friday night. I didn't mind too much since I wasn't in a rush but it should be noted. Ambiance is casual. There's a stage and a bar area. The restroom has a sink outside which is handy if you just need to wash your hands. The boyfriend & I love that there's always great African music & videos playing. We always find a new-to-us singer or band to explore. Pro tip: for a more traditional experience, ask to eat at a mesob - the basket-like dining table. It's small - but that encourages conversation and easy food/sharing. Welcomed by friendly staff, we went with our orders. The portions of Injera were generous and our vegetarian friend was so happy that he had good food and no "beyond meat" stuff. We came in on a Saturday at around 4pm and were sat right away. Our waitress was very welcoming and attentive. The restaurant is huge and i imagine would be a great time at night when they have performers. Between 5 adults and a child we ordered drinks, beef samosas, lentil samosas, a meat combo and a veggie combo. It was PLENTY of food. We even took quite a bit home. I wish it came with more injera on the side but that's probably my only gripe. Highly recommend! read more
