My first ever bad review. I tend to give the benefit of doubt to the food and service industry. But dang-this place leaves things out and repeatedly screws up orders. Not a singled out instance; like all the time! It's not cheap either; I would expect better from a place that costs $30+ for a walk up counter. The employees and management has the attitude that replicates a cheap snack stand vendor at six flags. They just don't care. The crispy beef and dumplings are great. The Spicy Crispy Beef is incredible and underrated. Served with cilantro and chilies, but no sauce. Add a little soy sauce and it pops. It's the best dish here in my opinion. General Tso's chicken is plump and good. They can make it not spicy for the kids too. The dumplings are great. We also enjoy the Spring rolls and Crab Rangoons. You're going to be paying a Halcyon premium to basically eat at a cafeteria food stall but not everything good needs to be gilded, right? I mean, it was north of $10 each. UNBELIEVABLY good! Came here on the recommendation of many others and am so glad I did. While the prices are (in my opinion) VERY high, the food is extremely filling so you really only have to order very little for a meal. With that being the case (now that I know that), you can still get out of here for a similar price as at other restaurants. We had the chicken dumplings, pork dumplings, and an order of the thick thai sweet and spicy noodles (not on their regular menu here, but had a sign at the register for this). Everything was delicious. The sauce for the dumplings is a good amount spicy, so if you or someone you're with is sensitive to spice, just be aware of that. As good as the dumplings were, I think I may have enjoyed the noodles even more! The thickness of them made them a delicious doughy texture and the sauce was out of this world. I hope these noodles stay available at this location long-term as I would definitely return for them. Over all, an amazing place to eat. While visiting Halcyon for the first time we experienced what many will experience... sensation overload!!! We came with the expectation of eating Mexican cuisine @ Cantina Taqueria, but as we waited for friends to arrive and walked around, suddenly that SOLID predetermined choice became iffy! Aside from the festive atmosphere of Halcyon with all the Fall Season decorations, outdoor lawns, live entertainment and people everywhere just enjoying time with their families, the smells wafting through the air were incredible. I felt like a boy who had been living in a bubble for the past decade being released into a world I didn't know existed. I'm a highly social creature (to the embarrassment of my children), and I don't think I've ever really met a stranger. So I had no problem having conversation after conversation with people siting at outdoor tables with food that looked absolutely amazing. Most people, when receiving good energy, will return it! So each of my conversations was a real joy, feeling very much so like I'd just made a friend... which in itself was a big deal considering how many people were feeling after the announcement of the election results the previous day. If you are a fan of cruise ships then you know there is a difference in how people act on cruises verses how people act at resorts. Vacationers at resorts, while friendly, don't generally go out of their way to talk to others. A cruise ship full of strangers is practically one giant family after just a few days. They are more engaging, fun and interested in who you are and where you are from than resort folks. The atmosphere @ Halcyon feels a lot like being on a cruise ship. BUT I DIGRESS... So as we explored the many offering around Halcyon, a guy called me over to his table after hearing me talking with another table and suggested Gu's. His wife highly recommended the dumplings while he insisted I try the Chicken Po' Boy. I couldn't let it slide that he came to a Szechuan restaurant and ordered a po' boy, so a gave him grief for at least 3 minutes to which he took in good fun! However, my family was still very set on the Mexican Restaurant, so instead of ordering the catfish po' boy (which I FULLY intend to return to try), we ordered a 6 piece dumpling to shared. I was told the dumpling were spicy, and I'm not a huge fan of spicy foods. I almost didn't order them, but I'm glad I did because I didn't find them to be spicy at all. The sweetness balanced the heat to the point I barely noticed any of the spicy kick. They were so rich in flavor that I told my wife "You guys go eat Mexican, I'm staying here!!!" LOL If you're a married guy, you know I didn't get my way and pouted as I was forcefully dragged away from Gu's by my love & best friend of 24 years! But she did promise we could come back next week... YAAAAY!!! *** FINAL THOUGHTS Please forgive me! Many of my reviews are ramblings of the experience more than the food, but I like setting the stage for you. Bottom line - the dumplings, as my 16-year-old would say, are FIRE!!! I can promise you no matter where we eat when we come back to Halcyon, I will likely never pass an opportunity to stop here for a taste of these amazing dumplings. Second visit and review, this time eating onsite. Ordered 6 of the special dumplings along with the Chengdu cold noodles. Dumplings are pretty good, and the sauce not too spicy, but they are quite oily as well. 6 was plenty. I was not a great fan of the noodles, as they and the sauce are both pretty bland. My fried ordered the Mongolian beef, which was good. But at $17 I thought it way overpriced. The overhead fans in the food court were irritating with the cold downdraft. The food hall is not that big but am glad to have the option since many restaurants were around too. There are about five food vendors inside but only half are open at 11 am. The rest opens at noon. We opted for Gu's Dumplings, ordered paid, and food will be ready in 15 mins or so. My friend ordered the spicy dried beef noodles and half order of veggie dumplings. I ordered the Szechuan tofu po' boy and Szechuan French fries. My food was brought out and I thought the presentation was good. Gu's Dumplings has potential but feel that the flavors aren't there, too Americanized for my taste. Nothing was spicy at all for me. I like the crunchiness of the fried tofu but eaten by itself is too salty. I felt there should be more sauce and flavor. The fries are good and too much for me to eat and finish. I tried the veggie dumpling and thought it was plain. No flavor. Maybe I should get the spicy dried eggplant instead. I don't know. Dumplings are good. But they are not worth the price. I would not recommend any other food from there as they will rip you off with the prices with the small portions. I am waiting for this place to be replaced. I hope it will be gone next year (2023). Bottom line: go elsewhere. read more

We got the following: - Jasmine Green Milk Tea with Crystal Boba: I wish this wasn't pre-made because this also means the sugar was at a set level. But the tea tasted great and I enjoyed the crystal boba it came with too (because they were out of regular tapioca). - Gu's Veggie Dumplings: For a place that has 'dumplings' in the title, I was kind of surprised it only had one order of dumplings on the menu! But these were really good with their chili oil. They were cooked well and loved the sauce it was coated it. - Szechuan Tofu / Chicken Po Boy: My friend got the tofu one and I got the chicken one, both of them really delicious and the stars of the meal! It was a great fusion and the protein had great flavor in it. I definitely recommend this for whoever is giving this place a visit. I love the Gu's at Krog, but this one completely missed the mark. My boyfriend and I split the chicken dumplings and general Tso's chicken. The dumplings were rather flavorless and the sauce didn't add anything. This is not what I remember about the dumplings at Krog. There were no green onion (as shown in some pictures) either. And they barely had any sauce. The general tso's chicken was sickeningly sweet and had an extremely thick sauce. My boyfriend got that entree because the picture shows it with fresh broccoli.. we wanted some veggies with our meal. However, the broccoli was at the very bottom of the container and there were like 2 small crowns, that's it. Worse yet, I have a terrible stomach ache and cramps. My boyfriend has also had an upset stomach since having the food. I've never had a stomach ache from food I ate out before. I would not recommend Gu's. I was very excited to try food from Gu's at the halycon location but I was desperately disappointed with the Dan Dan noodles I ordered chicken dumplings & Dan Dan noodles on Saturday. The chicken dumplings were yummy and mildly spicy, it had a good mix between sweet and spicy and was about $7.5 for 6 pieces which is okay. And the Dan Dan noodles was mildly spicy as well but it didn't have any sauce or seasoning , the ground beef in the noodle also didn't have any taste. The noodles was basically flavourless and dry which was disappointing because it was not as described in the menu plus it's $11 which is overpriced for just a flavourless bland noodles. I'm a sucker for a good dumpling and this place really hit the spot. I got a half order of chicken dumplings and a side of popcorn chicken. Good portions at a fair price, I couldn't even finish it all. What's different about these guys is the homemade sauce options. Truly sets them apart. The dumpling sauce was had a nice amount of spice. And the spicy mayo was more refreshing as it had a much better flavor than what you'd get bottled from the store. I think the best thing on the menu are the pork dumplings, don't hesitate, just do it. What a nice addition to the little food hall at Halcyon. I wish the food hall/market/whatever was bigger, but that's not Gu's fault. I think they could have built it twice or three times the size and really packed in some more variety and local shops. Outside of the spicy dumplings, I would not suggest spending your cash. This may be the best you can get outside Buford Highway but the drive is worth it. I've had this many times. It's nice to have a dumpling place around and although their dumplings are okay, they're not 5 star. What is really most wrong with Gu's, is how expensive it is for the quality of the food. Other than the dumplings (which are somewhat unique in this area), the rest of their food is on par with a typical Chinese food place that is half the cost. They don't even give you rice here with an entree. It's extra! I ordered General Tso's Chicken and it was $18 without the rice (BTW: The quality of the white rice is poor for an expensive Asian place)! Again, overall quality is okay but geez! They don't give you plates or anything if you dine in the food hall, so good luck not making a mess and getting it on you. I know it is a food hall and they're noisy, but with every single restaurant yelling out the names of their customers, it is especially annoying and chaotic. They should follow other food halls that have a big digital board that tell you when your food is up to reduce the needless yelling out of names. I got the vegetable dumplings which were really good! The dumplings are steamed with a great flavor inside and out. They come with a really delicious sweet and spicy sauce. My only complaint is that the sauce comes poured in the bowl so by the time you get to the last couple dumplings they are very wet and fall apart easily. But very good! read more
