I'm honestly really disappointed because this restaurant has such high ratings, but my experience at Xins Chinese Cuisine was not good at all. I ordered tofu, pepper steak, and vegetable delight, and the food was extremely underwhelming. The fried rice had almost no ingredients in it -- no onions, no vegetables, barely any flavor. It honestly felt like plain rice with very little effort put into it. The white rice looked and tasted like soy sauce had simply been poured over it instead of being prepared properly. Overall, the food lacked flavor, freshness, and quality. Based on my experience, I definitely would not return. read more

Ever since a friend of mine who married a Beijing husband recommended this place for its "spicy pot", we have been its regular customers for years. The spicy pot is a dry pot dish and we love it with wings or fish fillet. Fried steam buns with condensed milk is another great appetizer that we always ordered for the kids. I REALLY wanted to like Xin's Chinese but to be so close in proximity to Masterpiece (on the same strip), they had to meet some high standards... and it's unfortunate that they just couldn't get there. It was a little hyped thanks to the rave reviews from my fellow Yelp elites, especially since they are older reviews. We walked in a little after peak lunch time and we were the only customers the entire time. A little concerning but not super surprising since it was after 1pm. The first few dishes were a letdown. We ordered the spicy dry fried eggplant, Sichuan string beans and the sautéed fish fillets. Since the first two dishes were spicy, we decided to tone it down with the fish dish. The string bean dish was my favorite of the three. The fish fillets were bland (and looked as bland as it tasted) and the dry fried eggplant weren't anything special. We were a bit disappointed with what we had ordered so we finally decided to try the dry hot pot that others had raved about. We ordered the fish fillet spicy pot, which definitely had much more flavor, but it seemed like not all the veggies were cooked fully, since the textures were a bit off from what I would have thought from a dry fry. The lotus root wasn't crispy but wasn't soft, kind of a strange hard. I went to Masterpiece recently and was also a little disappointed so maybe if I'm back in the area for Chinese food, I'd give that dry hot pot another try - I imagined it was an off day since we came at the tail end of lunch. read more

This has been my go to spot for Chinese food in my area. God knows I've tried all other takeout places around, and let me tell you, this has been the best by far. Food has always been phenomenal, and fresh. I like that you can order traditional Chinese, or could go for American-chinese plates. My go to's now are either the Thin noodles with shrimp, or any of the fried rice offerings. All meals always pack a flavor punch, and portions are very adequate for the price point. We've ordered to go a few times now and it's always been delicious. Our go to order is the green beans, spicy chicken, spicy fish pot, and the cumin lamb. They include a large container of white rice that is plenty for the entrees. The green beans always have so much flavor and are nice and crunchy. The chicken and fish have the right amount of spice. The Sichuan province of China is known for its world renown spicy cuisine. Xin's Chinese Cuisine has a good selection of Sichuan inspired dishes among other traditional and Americanized Chinese dishes. When you first arrive at the place. There's not much you can tell from the outside. It's very average looking, you can easily overlook it if you were unitary passing by. Don't let the exterior foil you though. Inside you'll find very traditional Chinese décor, reminiscent of a tea house. The restaurant isn't the biggest but it does make to have enough space for a decent crowd. The food here ranges from traditional to Americanized. Check out the menu for more details. The most popular dish is definitely the spicy pot, which is a mix of different vegetables and chili peppers all centered around either meat or fish. Depending you preference, you have a few options there. I strongly recommend getting the spicy fish pot. Portion wise this place does not hold back. You'll be able to share with a group of people easily. Another cool fact is that they make their own homemade yogurt drink which pairs well with all spicy food. Good way to cool down. Do I recommend this place? Yes. Is it worth the price? Yep. Should you go there? Sure, why not. Not everyone will like it, but I do. Go ahead and find out for yourself. Taipei Restaurant reopened as Xin's Chinese Cuisine in 2015. The owners decided to remodel and rebrand the place Xin's to avoid confusion because they primarily serve Sichuan and Northern Chinese cuisine. There's no Taiwanese food here. At least, not anymore. This is a small, family-run business with authentic food. The owner, Yannan Zhao, and his mom run the show. Yannan's dad is the chef. The family is from Beijing. The restaurant can seat approximately 40 customers, mostly at two and four-tops. There are three round tables for larger groups. The biggest of these has a Lazy Susan. The atmosphere is casual and the space is cozy. As a result of last year's remodel, the walls now have paintings of ancient Beijing. We visited this past weekend and the ceiling fans had hanging decorations celebrating the Chinese New Year. The clientele appear to be mostly Chinese people. The specials are written in Chinese only. If you don't read Chinese, you'll have to ask a server what they are. Fortunately, Yannan speaks good English. Like other Chinese restaurants, Xin's has a massive menu. There are about 60 main dishes ($8.95 to $13.95) including cumin lamb, beef stomach with cilantro, stir-fried pork liver, and bitter melon in black bean sauce; 4 clay pots ($8.95 to $11.95); soups; 10 "spicy pots" ($12.95 to $15.95) - this restaurant's specialty; 10 noodle, bun, and pancake dishes ($3.95 to $10.95); and lamb or beef Chinese hot pot ($8.95 to $15.95) with different soup bases and nearly 20 different ingredients (priced a la carte). There are also over 20 affordably priced lunch specials ($5.95 to $6.50). We let Yannan do most of the ordering for us in order to try a good sampling of what the restaurant has to offer. Here's what we wound up with: * Edamame (soybean appetizer) - complimentary * Cold beef slices with chili oil (special, not on menu) - $15.95 * Salt and pepper fried mushrooms (special, not on menu) - $12.00 * Main #11. It was pretty much like the edamame at most Japanese restaurants. Perhaps less green and a bit soggier. I think the cold beef slices with chili oil are this restaurant's version of fuqi feipian, commonly referred to in English as "husband and wife lung slices." If you're wondering why it's called that, look up "fuqi feipian" on Wikipedia. This dish is different than how I've had it other Atlanta area Sichuan restaurants. Instead of the slices being served in chili oil, the chili oil is served on the side. Also, the slices are bigger, thicker, leaner, chewier, and less tendony. You get more meat and offal in Xin's version, but it's not as flavorful due to the cuts and oil/seasoning. Still, not bad, and certainly worth ordering if you're into Sichuan cold apps. We were told the salt and pepper fried mushrooms was an experimental dish that the chef is testing out. I'm not sure what kind of mushrooms they were, but they were long and thin. We could barely taste any mushroom in some bites. Instead, it was like eating batter. Tasty batter. Its crisp texture and airiness make it similar to tempura. The double-cooked pork was terrific. This dish is essentially pieces of pork belly cooked with leeks and peppers. A savory, but expectedly fatty dish. The fried string beans are on par with other Chinese restaurants around town. They had a nice crunch were prepared with garlic. The lamb with cilantro was A-OK. This was a meaty dish with several thin slices of lamb, long cilantro stems, and scallions too. The lamb was a little chewy, but appetizing. No gamey flavor. The spicy pots were very good. These really showed off the intense flavors, spiciness, and addictive numbing effect that Sichuan cuisine has become known for. All of the ingredients were tossed with plenty of oil, red chili peppers, and those tiny Sichuan peppercorns which I find to be irresistible. Both the fish fillets and pork intestines were cut into bite-size pieces and fried. Other ingredients in these pots included tofu skin, lotus slices, wood ear fungus, peanuts, and some sort of radish or potato. The fish was a hit and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes spicy food. The intestines were good too and among the better intestines I've eaten. No unpleasant flavor or smell. The stuffed eggplant was also very good. The slices of eggplant are filled with pork, which I find interesting since I'm used to seeing Chinese stuffed eggplant made with shrimp. This was another hit. The garlic sauce was delectable. The yogurt is homemade and yummy. You can drink it through a straw. It tastes like an original tart yogurt from a froyo shop, except it's not frozen. Service was excellent. Our orders came out fast. read more

Had a wonderful dining experience here. We've been looking for authentic Sichuan food in Atlanta, but to no avail. I'd read about Xin's but the Duluth location seemed too far to try. After visiting several other places advertising Szechuan, we decided to make the trek to Duluth. And are we ever glad we did! Xin's came the closest to what we've been searching for. The hot pot dishes alone are worth the visit. It's always discouraging to visit a restaurant with good reviews, only to have the spice turned down for American tastes. If you seek out a Sichuan restaurant, you are looking for heat! And Xin's doesn't disappoint! Be sure to avoid the American menu at the back and go for the authentic dishes at the front. Service is excellent and the staff is happy to help you navigate around the menu. I ordered the shrimp hot pot and I can't wait to go back and have it again. The intense flavors are interesting and complex, with plenty of Sichuan peppercorns and numbing spice! The lotus root was delightful and the shrimp were cooked to perfection. My husband isn't a fan of spice (his loss!) so he ordered Kung Pao chicken. The flavors of this dish were also complex, and he pronounced it the best he'd ever had. We also tried the steamed dumplings (fair) and the steamed Napa cabbage (nice, but too bland for me.) All in all, one of the best Chinese dining experience we have had in Atlanta. I ordered delivery through Chowbus. I ordered three cups chicken and eggplant & potatoes & green peppers. The two dishes I ordered looked disgusting. They were dark brown and almost black color. The food didn't even taste good. They were so oily and bland. Three cups chicken was gross. The chicken was too dried and the meat was very hard to chew. It seemed like they used old chicken instead of fresh chicken. Basil is the most important ingredient in three cups chicken and they didn't have it. Eggplant & Potatoes & green pepper was so disappointing. Traditionally, the potatoes should be cut into cubes but they sliced their potatoes into thin pieces. The dish had no more than 4 pieces of green pepper. The dish was soaked in oil.. it was disgusting. I have tried this restaurant in person before but it was my first time ordering delivery. Came here on my way out of town with the wife the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the food. The Scallion pancakes were delicious and reminded me of a fried dough concoction. They weren't quite as good as they cooled, and that was the story for really all the dishes. The cilantro beef started off amazing and finished as just good. They give you very solid portions and plenty of rice accompaniment. I had to drink quite a bit of water after this meal, but again, everything was pretty fresh and tasty. UPDATE: the owner just sent a message to me with INSULTING and DISCRIMINATING words in CHINESE. SHAME ON THIS RESTAURANT. I was forced to pay a tip, which is obviously higher than usual tip amount. They REQUIRED me to pay a 15-20% tip on a WORKDAY noon WITHOUT any American style restaurant service, like come over to check if you are satisfied with food, refill your drinks etc. They just put dishes with food on the table and leave you alone. The restaurant serves traditional authentic Chinese food. It says on their window that the chef is from Beijing. The chairs in the restaurant is a bit smaller. They have the traditional looking Chinese bench / chair which can be small for two people. We ordered the following food: - salted duck: it was only half but the portion was big.The duck has bones in it and it tasted like the ones I had in China. - shrimp rice noodle: kids like it. It's not very oily like the ones from other Chinese restaurants. - scallion pancake: just the right thickness and crispness ! Love them! - spicy fish pot: it's really good! A must order dish. We love the lotus root and potato in the pot more than the fish lol. I think the fish could be more crispy - maybe the oil isn't hot enough when they fried the fish? - three cup chicken: another dish with bone in - just how Chinese like it :-) a lot of restaurants nowadays just use chicken breast meat for this dish which is not authentic. I love theirs! - stuffed eggplant: it really looked better than it tasted... maybe be I just don't like deep fried stuff with too much flour. The garlic sauce is excellent though. Good food, good service. I had a hankering for some Chinese food while in Duluth and I happened to come across Xin's. It is located near the intersection of Buford Hwy and North Berkeley Lake, in the same shopping center as Masterpiece. The menu isn't very helpful if you have to rely on the very limited English descriptions of the food. Actually the menu only lists the names of the dishes in English. There is no description of what the dish really consists of, for that you will have to rely on your waiter or waitress. We ended up ordering the Kung Pao chicken and the Fish Filet Spicy Pot. The Kung Pao chicken was of course just your basic Kung Pao chicken however it was better than most of the other mediocre Chinese places. The Fish Filet Spicy Pot is a dry dish (no sauce). It consists of the fish, thin sliced potatoes, celery, and three or four other things that we couldn't quite figure out. The dish was very good and very flavorful. It was a little spicy but as someone who loves spicy food I would have like them to up the heat factor a bit. The service was good. Our waiter was happy to answer any questions we had and he made sure our rice bowl was always full. This restaurant has been around at the same location for about 7 years now, at least with the same English name. But since middle of 2014, they no longer serve Taiwanese food as their name and some of those reviews from 2008 suggest. They did change their Chinese name(rough phonetic transcription in English is 'Chia Wei'), only they didn't bother with English name which may confuse heck out of some people. The restaurant is located in the same small strip mall on Buford highway that has other Sichuan style restaurant, MasterPiece(http://www.yelp.com/biz/masterpiece-duluth), that I have reviewed previously. Tucked slight away from pleasant hill rd, it hardly gets noticed but I noticed this during my recent visits to Masterpiece restaurant. So what kind of food they serve then? Current Chef, Zhao Qi was a former chef of Beijing hot pot restaurant Dong Lai Shun. And he has brought his expertise with Hot pots and spicy pots here as well, so you will see many options of this in the menu. Other than that, they serve winter claypot series, family set meals, Sichuan & Northern cuisine items as well. On one Thursday evening, we decided to battle the cold weather with some spicy food and went here. Not much to say about outside, it's a quaint little restaurant inside. In a smaller than Masterpiece right next door but we thought it was perfectly cozy. When we entered, it was practically empty and it stayed that way until we left but we have noticed few picked up take-out orders from here. We were welcomed and seated immediately. We ordered following items, 1) Spicy Fish Pot 2) Stir fried pork kidney 3) Pork ribs clay pot ----- Spicy Fish pot - this seems to be the very popular dish here, one of my friend who has been here before insisted that I try this and you don't have to try hard to convince me to try a spicy fish dish anyway. With so many ingredients, without even trying, this has to be one of a prettiest & most photogenic dish I have seen in a while. It had lightly fried filet of fish, fried lotus roots, celery, 'Jews ears' fungus, sliced potatoes, tofu skin, chili pepper, onions, peanuts, sichuan pepper corns, mushrooms, ginger, cloves of garlic and white sesame - all stir fried nicely to get nice, rich and complex flavors. And each ingredients brought different textural elements to the dish as well - 'Jews ear' being jelly like, lotus root a bit crunchy, parper-like texture of tofu skin and I can keep going. And for the taste, lets just say I loved it. I really like how this dish brought different flavors, textures and taste together. MUST TRY here! ----- Stir Fried pork kidney - I pride myself to be someone who tries anything once, how much ever gross it may seem but surprisingly I have never really thought about eating kidney before. My partner insisted that I will like it and he wanted to order something different from what we usually order. So after grumbling for a bit, I gave in. It's basically pork kidney stir-fried with ginger, bell paper, sesame oil and rice wine. It had a different texture than anything I have eaten before - part pasty, part rubbery and part jelly? I am not sure! But it wasn't gross. My partner loved it - he couldn't get enough of it! For me, for trying kidneys for very first time, I didn't hate it. It comes down to individual taste level and how much of kidney you have been used to before. ----- Pork ribs clay pot - It wasn't exactly what we expected to get but turned out to be good. We expected a rich saucy dish with pork ribs in claypot but it was rather light and soupy dish with some glass noodles, small pieces of pork ribs and lots of napa cabbages. It served as nice contrast to other two rich dishes we have ordered. It was good, but bit bland for me. While our waiter(only waiter) didn't seem overly enthusiastic, the service was just right - he took our orders, brought our hot tea & food on time and checked on us few times. Good enough for me. Wow this is good! I visited with a group of yelpers not knowing what to expect at all, and honestly thought the "Buford Highway magic" didn't stretch as far as Duluth, but I was happily surprised. I ordered the stuffed eggplant in garlic sauce ($12.95), but before my food even made it out, we had really greatly seasoned Edamame, which were cold but good. The wait time for the meals weren't long at all, less than 20 minutes, and the food portions were big enough to share with a group, get me full, and still take some home (photos below). The stuffed eggplant were very slightly sweet, but really were more of a savory flavor, stuffed with pork, and lightly coated and fried. The eggplant wasn't mushy at all (great!), and the coating wasn't super greasy either. I'd never tried this dish at a Chinese restaurant, and I have to say, it's going on my rotation for great dishes to order. Honorable mentions to the double cooked pork ($10.95), which kinda look like bacon, and really are bacon, but seasoned very nicely and, well, double cooked. The pork was very tender, not chewy at all, and easily shared with a group Located in a tiny restaurant strip off of Buford hwy, parking isn't a huge issue, and exiting left or right on buford hwy isn't bad. If you'd like to get to pleasant hill road though, it's easiest to hit the back exit, which will spit you right out on pleasant hill. I have eaten here a handful of times. It is probably one of the best restaurants for authentic Chinese food. I love their lunch options and the price is under $10. I walk in for a good meal and quiet time and they always deliver. I think the hardest thing is to not lick the plate clean afterwards. Lol. I'm glad D.B. decided to host a lunch here because I never would have even known it existed to eat here! Two tables split the group into a larger group and a smaller group of 4. I liked our smaller table even though it meant we couldn't order as many things. However what we did order included: -spicy Szechuan fish fillet -stuffed eggplant in garlic sauce -twice-cooked pork One of the harder things was figuring out what the dishes were with the pictures that were floating on the screen. Unfortunately my Chinese is god-awful and I couldn't figure out what some of the dishes consisted of. The Ultimate Fail. -------- Twice Cooked Pork: slices of pork belly marinated and then appears to be seared in a hot pan with leek and green onion. PROS -great amount of meat for four people: we couldn't even finish it -amazing flavor. It's not salty, it's not sweet. I want to say that it's marinated in some type of cooking wine but I can't be sure -The cuts are even and not too thick. It's got some nice little tiny bits of burn to it as well. CONS -meat seemed a little too dry in some pieces. Maybe it was left on the pan for too long or on a hotter side of the wok? -not enough char on some pieces. -slightly too oily if I didn't have rice. It would be good if they blotted off the dish a little bit but this takes a lot of time that they probably can't afford to do during the lunch or dinner hour. Didn't prevent me from scarfing it down though! --------- Spicy Szechuan Fish Fillet: breaded fish fillet tossed and served with a seasoning that has those special mouth-numbing (literally numbing) Szechuan peppercorns. PROS -HUGE amount of food. Unbelievably huge -Great flavors, if you don't mind having your mouth numb. It's not overly salty either which can happen at some other restaurants -Not very spicy. This is coming from someone who used to be able to eat a lot of spicy foods. This dish however, isn't really spicy at all. In fact, it is more numbing than spicy. For those of you who haven't tried it and hate the feeling of when you go to the dentist, this dish is NOT for you. CONS -none. -------- Stuffed Eggplant: Eggplant "sandwiches" are stuffed with minced pork, breaded, and then deep fried. Then they are served with what I think is a sweet-sour garlic sauce. PROS -eggplant was super stuffed. They weren't stingy with the filling at all. -sauce was not overwhelming. Sometimes the sauce can be more than the food itself. In addition, it wasn't really spicy either even though garlic can give off some heat. CONS -this wasn't really a con but if the later pieces of eggplant aren't eaten right away, the breading can get a little soggy from sitting in the sauce. It didn't really bother us too much though. .... I'd totally come back again, especially since this place is a lot closer than the Szechuan store in Great Wall Supermarket. Service was really fast, especially given that it was the lunch hour. The owner was also really attentive even though his mom wasn't even here to help like she normally was due to a trip back to China. I definitely recommend this place especially for OTPers or even anyone who is in the area. read more

This is one of my favorite Chinese/Szechuan restaurants in Atlanta. All the spicy pots are amazing; the fish pot seemed to be the most popular one. It's a great place to go for authentic, home styled Chinese dishes. They do not specialize in Taiwanese food! I see some old negative reviews here complaining that they didn't get real Taiwanese food here. I know the English name could be misleading, but they changed their Chinese name to 家味居，which is exactly what it is. So come here and prepare to enjoy some authentic Szechuan Chinese food! read more

I have absolutely no complaints! I'll say it's a little ballsy to open a Szechuan place right next to Masterpiece and all its accolades. However I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and extremely pleased to see they have one quality that Masterpiece definitely cant match them on: speedy and knowledgable waitstaff and a kitchen that can actually get you your order in a reasonable time. We ordered the Fish in Spicy Hot Pot and the Tomato and Egg soup. The fish was well battered and perfectly cooked through. The sliced lotus root was fried to perfection keeping its signature crunch while the numbing peppers and crispy surface sealed in the flavor. The tomato and egg soup was simple and had a generous helping of freshly sliced tomatoes: just like I enjoy it. This place is worth a visit for sure. It's Szechuan offerings are great and the good service means I'll be back soon! read more
