I have ate at several Gusanos. This was the first time that me service was seriously lacking. The waitress was really slow and wrote everything down on a post-it-note. Really! We asked what was recommended and she said that she really doesn't eat here a lot. It took over 30 minutes to get our food out and I wasn't impressed. I normally don't have an issue but they were not busy when we ordered being the first of the Friday night crowd. Wondered several times if the went to Chicago to get the pizza . Just ok, over priced. Service was good place was clean. The restaurant, was all but empty at 5:30pm on a Friday night. We ordered, a 16" regular crust pizza and a large salad, two drinks $41. I'm ok with spending the money but, the pizza wasn't anything more than paper thin crust, short on pepperoni, over loaded with jalapeños, short on sausage and the salad was just, lettuce with olive's. I'll try Gusano's again, I'll go at a busier time, maybe that's the difference. read more

I like their pizza, I don't go there for the Chicago style and I have never had real Chicago style pizza so I can't comment on the authenticity of it but I do like that they have cauliflower crust and I ordered the buffalo chicken one with jalapeños, i never paid attention to it until we got our ticket and I realized after also observing my leftover slices that I had received a regular pizza crust, I was mortified, I asked them if it was cauliflower and they confirmed it wasn't, I did ask if they could make me one with the cauliflower crust because I couldn't eat the rest of my pizza which I only ate two pieces of and they did which I was relieved, i gave them the rest of my pizza and they gave me a new one! So for that they get 5 stars and the pizza was spicy just how I like it! read more

For a hometown girl who grew up with Pizza by Stout this is a difficult review. Ever since the tornado, Joplin has been lacking in a a superior pizza place. Gusano's is really good!! They offer an original thin crust & a Chicago style crust. The Chaplin came with a very tasty herbed crust that was crunchy on the bottom yet not chewy. Some spinach & Roma tomatoes would have been nice but overall the taste was very fresh and delicious. We were there on a busy Friday night so it was very loud but a fun atmosphere. Lots of fun Retro video games for the kids and a cute bar area. There is also a nicely sized patio space. In a town that was and still is devoted to Stout's, Gusano's definitely fills the void for great pizza! read more

Thanks to Gusano's, people in the area can finally enjoy Chicago style pizza. However, as a fanatic who has eaten at most of the actual Chicago pizza restaurants of note, they fall short. Each time I have gone, I have noticed that it had about half of the toppings that I would expect, especially for the price range. The quality is great, but you might want to ask if you can pay to add more toppings to actually really enjoy it. For those who don't know how it works, you will have to give yourself some time for Chicago pizzas. Do not bring young children if you can't keep them occupied while you sit. I ordered the vegetarian pizza and it was amazing! Full of flavor. The vegetables were fresh, the crust was cooked perfectly, and the seasoning was tasty and not overpowering. Hubby and I did relief work in Joplin last week during a heatwave. After several hours of working outside, we were so happy to find a chilled atmosphere and delicious food at Gusano's! We ordered the Signature Spinach pizza with chicken and tomatoes. It tasted even better than it sounds! I normally can't eat more than two large pieces, but this pie made me go for a third. Worst service ever...should have listened to my self after reading all the bad reviews.. Run people run.. Don't go there.. Ever.. Had the personality of a rock.. AND the PLACE THAT NIGHT .! Was EMPTY.. Hardly anyone there.. ( i took pictures to show it was) so really no reason.. NO EXCUSE for the Long Wait ..! It was right around 8pm when i called it in.. Gussno's has very good pizza and friendly staff. We have always had more of a wait than expected, but it is pizza so I cut some slack for that. The first time we went was on a Monday night a several months ago. We ask if they had any specials and the waitress told us the usuall. Then my wife ask if they had any childrens specials and she told us that kids got a small one top and milk for 99cents on Monday nights. If you don't specifically ask about the kids special they will not tell you about it, or at least she didn't. The pizza was delicious but expensive when compared to the usual cost of pizza in our area. The place was nice and clean. The staff were all very friendly. Of all the pizzerias attempting to emulate the Pizza By Stout model this one comes closest to the mark but still falls short. The pizza is acceptable the quality of the ingredients has increased over the years (The first time I came here I ordered a Margarita Pizza and was given a tomato pizza with basil dust, not impressed.) The Chicago style crust is what I usually order and it is thick, chewy, and re-heats well in a home oven. Could be a little more crispy on the outside but generally is acceptable. The variety of toppings is good and the overall quality is excellent especially compared to other pizza establishments in the Joplin Area. Try the Ditka for a real treat. Prices could be lower but it is what it is and options-wise you won't find a better pizza in Joplin unless the PBS owners decide to come out of retirement. Atmosphere leaves much to be desired. The half walls and open concept create an atmosphere more reminiscent of a CiCi's than a mid-scale casual pizza restaurant. I feel very exposed when dining here. As such I have taken my pizza to go as of late rather than sit in the dining room or at the bar. Ah yes the bar. Every beer that has been poured for me here has fallen 1/4 to 1/2 inch short of the lip of the glass. Stick to bottles if this makes you feel shorted. The staff is acceptably accommodating, but at times seems more distracted by what's going on in their outside lives rather than the task at hand. With the high turnover rate in the service industry this restaurant goes through periods of good and mediocre staff as all establishments do and the fact that many are college aged kids who are also overwhelmed with their studies and getting their lives together for the first time offers some redemption to these issues. Overall it is a good choice for pizza in Joplin Missouri and I would recommend it above other similar establishments in the area. read more

It's a bit of a wait for carryout or dine in but so far the wait is made worthwhile with a bar and a cool barkeep. Levi chatted with me a bit and proved to be knowledgeable with his brews and was a good guy, putting up with my random waiting a bit rambleings. My husband and I went to Gusano's in Joplin today. We decided to try their new cheeseburger pizza. What a let down. The crust was very hard, dry, and no flavor. Almost like eating a saltine cracker. Not flavor over all except it had to many pickles. We hardly seen our server and when she did come to our table, she asked if everything was ok. I let her know how dissatisfied we were with the pizza. This is what she said "well it is new" and she will let "them know". We weren't offered another pizza or any discount. Instead she stood at the cash register for a few minutes and then came back to see if we wanted our pizza in a to go box. What is up with all the bad reviews? We love, love, love their Chicago Style Pizza! Have eaten here many times. It does take a while especially to get the Chicago Style because it has to cook for about 30 minutes. This isn't fast food people. Have always been treated well by the staff. The dinner salad is great and big enough for 2 people to split. The only problem I have here is the noise level. The games on the TV's don't need to have the volume blasting. You can't understand them anyway because the place is usually full and lots of people talking. Bad acoustics but that won't stop us from going there for the best pizza ever! First off, if you have been to Chicago and have had Gino's East, Giordano's, Lou Malnatti's, or Uno this is not the same. It is however, a thin, crispy, deep dish pizza with a thick layer of cheese, toppings, and covered with sauce. The crust is crispy but not buttery and flaky like Giordano's or Malnatti's. The marinara is a little on the overly acidic side. They have good daily specials, drink specials, and good prices. There is no better pizza in Joplin. We will go back for more. read more

I've only been once with a couple of girlfriends but we shared a white sauce pizza with chicken and spinach, and it was really good. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and it seemed like a pretty chilled out place, we dug the atmosphere a lot. Tradtional Chicago pizza. Yes the sauce is on TOP. Hubs is a big fan of this place. Nice thick layer of cheese. Lots of meat. Sausage is good and has some spice to it. I ate there last night and it was good as ever. I had a small Chicago style pizza, at my server's recommendation. I was afraid it would be too much sauce for my liking but turns out, it was very tasty! I'll order it again next time. I don't go in for beer but the PIZZA is the best. I don't even order the Chicago deep-dish. The regular pizza is the best my husband and I have ever had.
