Hot Beef Jerky? Not sure beef

It's ok. There is a very small selection of Jerky. I am very disappointed with the selection. As far as the ambiance it is an old run down shack with an outhouse straight of of Shrek in the back. Overall the jerky I ate was pretty tasty. Service was neither good or bad more just neutral. I'm pretty sure I saw Walt's RV out back.

Someone else makes the jerky for them...

It's unfortunate that a famous stop on the California 395 tour turns out to be nothing but hype. The prices are ridiculous for the quantity you get (4oz for $15). And, to add insult to injury, you look at the label and find that they aren't even producing their "famous" jerky. Very disappointing.

After driving through here for 25+ years, I finally stopped in at Gus's. I had always stopped at Mahogany House in Bishop previously, which just has a cleaner looking shop. What Gus's lacks in architecture it more than makes up for with tasty jerky. It is really good and really expensive, even for jerky. If dried out beef (and turkey) aren't your thing, there are several flavored olives-- garlic stuffed, jalapeño stuffed, etc. Also not supermarket prices, but they're good. I don't mind spending an extra couple of bucks here to support a local business, and have something to chew on for a few clicks on the odometer.

This spot is epic. They offered us samples of there jerky. It is tender, flavorful and a good bargain. A must stop if you are on HWY 395.

The tiny teriyaki jerky sample was just okay. 15 dollars for one bag not that much jerky in it. Or 3 for 39. I didn't get any.

It took a few minutes of waiting but our waitress came by and took our order. We ordered fresh OJ while we decided what to eat. Unfortunately our waitress never came back to take our food order after we got our OJ. Around the 10min mark of waiting and wondering where our waitress was, we overheard the staff telling some of the customers that their systems were down and were not able to take orders or payment. Oddly, they only seemed to communicate this to guests who were waiting or standing in line. I saw one customer pay cash for their food while they let another customer go without asking for payment (they told him not to worry about it). However, I didn't see any of the staff communicate to patrons who were already seated, including us. After another 10min of waiting to see if someone would come by to tell us of the issue, we decided to just get up and leave after being there for almost 30 minutes. On our way out, we handed some cash to a random staff member to pay for the OJ, but she didn't even seem to care. Although I was excited to try their breakfast items, their service (or lack thereof) has turned me away from wanting to visit again. I understand you're busy and having your systems offline added to the chaos, but the staff could have easily just made an announcement to the whole restaurant (it's a small restaurant) about the issue, thanking people for their patience, and letting us know what to expect.

Whitney. We had looked at the menu online and had an idea of what we wanted in advance, nope. Out of: the elk, all lamb, trout, and the filets- we ended up with two orders of top sirloin. I had mine with the mushrooms and my husband had his with the green peppercorn sauce- I guess you can still have the sauces even though the meat is gone. The steaks were ok, I definitely did not get what I wanted and probably wouldn't have stayed if I had known just how bad it would be. I did see others walk out, and people that ordered after me were not happy. There's a really easy way to fix this- daily paper menus with what you actually have. Maybe even update them as things run out. Just cross stuff out. Let the guests know up front. If I had known how limited it was, I wouldn't have ordered a drink and eaten the tasty bread roll. Service wasn't that great either- the person that brought the drinks was very friendly, but otherwise our waiter was pretty inattentive. I had the Bees Knees which I enjoyed, I ordered a glass of red to go with the steak, and that didn't show up till I was well into my meal. Weirdly, I would give this place another shot, but would order before even sitting down. That way when I am told that all I can get is a steak that I'm not that interested in, I'll go somewhere else. Or eat at the bar, have a decent drink and leave when you see how dire the menu selection is.
