From the very first bite, the flavor was amazing savory, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. It was easily one of the most delicious hot dogs I've had. The restaurant is small and has a true mom-and-pop feel, which makes it even more special. Despite its size, the staff was friendly, welcoming, and efficient. I chose takeout, and my order was prepared quickly. While waiting, I noticed the health score on the wall was a 96, which added to my confidence in the quality. The place started getting crowded, which was another good sign. Gus's may be small, but the food is outstanding, and I will definitely be back again.

Just a tiny, iconic hole in the wall that exists for one reason: to serve hot dogs that mean business. When you walk in, you already know you're not here for the décor. You're here because you're craving a hot dog and you want it done right. I ordered the Chicago dog, which showed up looking like it had zero intention of fitting politely inside its bun. This thing was juicy, oversized, and required a concerning amount of napkins. The pickles were crisp, the peppers had the right bite, the mustard was exactly what it should be. Everything hit. The only thing missing was that neon green relish that looks radioactive but somehow makes a Chicago dog official. I kind of missed it. A little. Then I got adventurous. Mistake number one. I ordered the Beef Sandwich, what I can only describe as a sloppy joe with a pickle on top. It sounded bold. It tasted... fine. Not terrible. Not memorable. Just sort of there. It's like I betrayed the hot dog gods and they let me know. My colleague went with the burger, which Tony's is apparently campaigning as "best of" material with the local news crowd. He said it was decent and a great value. High praise in burger language. Now the onion rings? Absolute perfection. Crispy, golden, and cooked exactly the way onion rings should be cooked. No notes. If I had stuck strictly to the hot dogs, this would've been an easy five-star situation. But I strayed. That's on me. Four stars. Next time, I'm staying loyal to the dogs.

It was my first time and they took the time out to suggest items to me and ask me what I liked. I even had input from another diner who was apparently a regular, who told me to get the bologna sandwich. And BOY was it delicious. HUGE. Couldn't eat it all in one setting. I liked it because it was on white bread, the bologna was thick sliced and charred (which a good piece of bologna always has) and the toppings were fresh. The only reason I gave it four stars is really no fault of their own. It's just the onion rings were too greasy. I know, I literally ordered a fried side, but they were like drenched. Perhaps it was just my batch. When I'm in Fultondale, though, I'll definitely be stopping by. I want to come back for the hotdog which is supposed to be the standout.

Service was okay, though when I asked what kind of hot dogs they used, they had no clue. I ordered two hot dogs. The total was over eight dollars and honestly, the hot dogs were not good. The chili was weak and the meat topping looked and tasted like it had been out way too long. The hot dogs were also low quality. The ambiance was decent enough. I can't see myself returning.

I had been trying to get my hands on some Sol's since before Easter. Unfortunately, they don't answer their phones. So annoying! The day I visited for lunch, it was packed. I placed my order at the counter and they call out your order when it's ready. This could cause some confusion. What if multiple people ordered the same thing?! I had no issue with my order but there's definitely a more effective way...... My 2 hotdogs (well done) all the way were fantastic!!. Fries were just okay. Skinny and borderline greasy. I still ate them all up! lol Next time I will dine in instead of eating in the car. Highly recommend. You are certain to take in the rich history they have created within the walls of Sol's hotdogs!

They've got some indoor seating and a few tables outside in case the weather is nice. Hot dogs, burgers, even a bologna sandwich on the menu. I'm recommending the burger because each time I've had it, it's been great. Don't think twice about it. Get the burger. I'm very sorry for what happened and appreciate you bringing it to my attention. After reviewing your comment, I believe the total was incorrect because our employee accidentally rang up the large fries twice. That was our mistake, and I sincerely apologize for the confusion. More importantly, I'm sorry that your concern was not handled with the professionalism and respect you deserved. If a customer has a question about an order, we should always take the time to review it courteously and resolve it. I would appreciate the opportunity to make this right. Please contact me directly at le@debhotdogs.com or (205) 767-9026 so I can personally apologize and make things right for you. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us coach our team and improve, and I hope you'll give us another chance to provide the experience we're known for. I posted this in response- My response to the owner- Not only does your employee not know mathematics, but the scenario of ringing up the fries twice does not calculate either. Let's go over your reply. $8.10 + $2.79 + $2.79= $13.68 I will be generous with a 10% tax rate. $13.68 X .10 = $13.68 + $1.37 = $15.05 Even your employee showed me the register total, and it equated to $16 & change. I do not know what kind of operation you are running, but I can say with absolute certainty that there are obvious mathematical issues and questionable practices. I decline your apology and your contrived excuse. I would rather seek a business that treats customers honestly. I posted this on Yelp because honest experiences I have can be deleted by Google if the owner feels they are being marred. It is not ok to delete honest comments. If a business treats a customer with dishonesty, it is not ok to protect them and indemnify them from the truth as seen by the offended. This post reflects that the owner acknowledges my complaint but offered some contrived excuse that just did not pass the smell test. If this owner tries to bring legal action against me, this will be evidence to their admission of the incident and Yelp allows honest posts unlike the Google and others that rather protect the business. I am and always will be a user and advocate for Yelp and its integrity.
