Sam's Super Samwiches is a long-standing institution in the Birmingham, Alabama area (Homewood, Alabama to be more specific). They have a reputation for their hot dogs, burgers and sandwiches (though I wish they could learn to spell it in their business name). Pulling in during prime time for lunch, parking was a bit of a challenge, especially with an armored car blocking like six spots for over an hour. After finding a parking spot, I walked into Sam's Super Samwiches and found that it had a cool ambiance with photos of celebrities lining the walls. The staff was extremely friendly. I asked what kind of hot dog they used and I was told it was a pork and beef blend. I went with the hot dog and a cheeseburger. The food came out in pretty much no time flat. The hot dog and the cheeseburger were both pretty good. The total for both was eleven dollars before the tip. The restaurant was pretty small, but it was pleasant enough. I found this to be an overall positive dining experience and I would definitely recommend Sam's Super Samwiches. Come taste what this community has known for awhile as a solid meal. I will give Sam's Super Samwiches five stars overall. If you are in the Homewood, Alabama area, I suggest that you check out Sam's Super Samwiches.

Great hot dogs but a little pricey. Chili dogs are good with a dash of red pepper found on the tables. Friendly people. Bright place with lots of history on the walls. I enjoy coming here for old school hot dogs. The burgers are good here too but I come for the dogs. The sauce is a little thicker than most but flavorful.

First time here, honestly we aren't sure how to rate it. We are more here or there about it. The inside was small but wasn't very busy at the time so it was fine. The service was basically just order and they get the food out when it's done. The food, we ordered a hot dog and Philly cheese steak. They don't have cheese sauce for your hotdog, only sliced cheese they can put on it. The chili has beans, so if you don't like beans, don't get it. The Philly cheesesteak wasn't bad, small but not bad for $11. The meat is a little frozen thing of meat, but they seasoned it well. The cheese pull was pretty nice as you see in the photo.

Yeah idk how Sam's Super Samwiches made it on the list of top 5 best hotdog spots in Birmingham. I just tried it for lunch and I ordered a chili dog and a burger. Let's start with the chili dog. First look it looked as if someone just piled wet dog food on top. Like an insanely amount of chili was on this thing. Not to mention it was bland so I basically took a bite into pure mush. The burger it looked good but ended up being extremely bland and the only thing I tasted was the sauce they put on it. I just couldn't finish this. 2/5 from me. Go check this place out. I'll be sticking with Paul's Hotdogs, Gus's Hotdogs, and Tony's Hotdogs from now on. Take Sam's off that top 5 list and put Paul's in that spot.

Great Homewood sandwich shop (really it's a burger shop but they make good breakfast sandwiches - my fav is the bologna, egg & cheese).

The walls are lined with old pictures, posters, and flyers from musical acts who have crossed paths with the city of Birmingham. In addition, there are some pretty dope anime posters there as well. Pop's has a nostalgic feel, that retro fast food feel with some good 'ol southern charm behind the counter. The young woman behind the counter always has a smile and brings out your food when it is ready, and the men in the kitchen are WORKING WORKING! I didn't know what to expect when I entered with my gang of co-workers, but we all wanted something simple but good. I decided to try the hot dog this time around. I'm more of a boiled, or grilled hot dog type guy, so when my to-go box came out, I was surprised to see that my frank had been not only slightly split open lengthwise but also cooked on a flat grill. It sorta threw me off a bit, but I was hungry and didn't mind. I took a shot at Pop's Chicago Dog with mustard, onions, peppers, tomatoes, pickles, and a side of fries. I didn't know how the tomato would do with a hot dog, but it was very good. And if you're looking for an all-beef hot dog, they have them! Overall, the flavor profile of the hot dog with its toppings reminded me to make a mental note to "please come back again." The seating was pretty standard for a retro fast-food place. The seating area was clean, I mean nothing immaculate, but I wouldn't expect that here with the volume of customers; you come here for good quick food and a quick chat with other patrons waiting for their orders. Other than that, you could be a loner, stand up and stare out of the front windows, and watch traffic race up and down 20th St S from or to the Vulcan until your order is called. I'd think that the pandemic would have been a challenge for them because there wouldn't have been much they could have done in terms of social distancing, but I could see a "3-5 person maximum at a time for takeout orders only" scenario. Environmentally friendly as far as plateware, cups, and utensils? No, they're not that, but if you're trying to satisfy a craving for some good hot dogs, wings, burgers, or a deli sandwich, kindly overlook the immediate impact you'd have on the environment, and check out Pop's, your appetite will thank you momentarily.
