Food first, thoughts after... I am so glad we stumbled upon this place. Absolutely delicious. I am not much of a burger person but I love burgers made like this. Fresh, handmade and not overly greasy. The sauce was not too overwhelming and paired well. This was easy to digest and honestly I could have sat there and ate two. I really wish they had fries to pair with it. Chips only. For 3 sandwiches and 2 small drinks, our total was $25.08 with $1 tip. Fast service! My burger was made before I paid with the person at the counter as she was trying to get a togo order together. Parking is overall fairly easy. This is a good solid choice for lunch/ dinner. We came on this side of town to have lunch at another restaurant that turned out to be closed. We looked before we can but there was as no warning of early closing today. We then looked for another place and finally found this place. Sometimes things just work out for what's best. The smell of good burgers were smelt before we opened the door. The smell matched the flavor and taste of each bite. My daughter and I both ordered the cheese but I ordered the slaw dog as well for later. We added the sweet tea and everything was pleasing to the tastebuds. The cooks and checkout clerks were friendly held welcoming conversations. When over this way I plan on returning. My dad and I were in the area and couldn't find any restaurants that were open today! Luckily I called Sam's and they were open. I ordered the cheeseburger, chips and fountain drink. My dad ordered the cheeseburger and slaw dog. We both got sweet tea for our bev. The sweet tea was perfection. The burgers were amazing. No wait when we placed our order. Food was ready right as we were paying. Ingredients were very fresh. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. Street parking. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Sam's Super Samwiches is a long-standing institution in the Birmingham, Alabama area (Homewood, Alabama to be more specific). They have a reputation for their hot dogs, burgers and sandwiches (though I wish they could learn to spell it in their business name). Pulling in during prime time for lunch, parking was a bit of a challenge, especially with an armored car blocking like six spots for over an hour. After finding a parking spot, I walked into Sam's Super Samwiches and found that it had a cool ambiance with photos of celebrities lining the walls. The staff was extremely friendly. I asked what kind of hot dog they used and I was told it was a pork and beef blend. I went with the hot dog and a cheeseburger. The food came out in pretty much no time flat. The hot dog and the cheeseburger were both pretty good. The total for both was eleven dollars before the tip. The restaurant was pretty small, but it was pleasant enough. I found this to be an overall positive dining experience and I would definitely recommend Sam's Super Samwiches. Come taste what this community has known for awhile as a solid meal. Great hot dogs but a little pricey. Chili dogs are good with a dash of red pepper found on the tables. Friendly people. Bright place with lots of history on the walls. I enjoy coming here for old school hot dogs. The burgers are good here too but I come for the dogs. The sauce is a little thicker than most but flavorful. read more

Yeah idk how Sam's Super Samwiches made it on the list of top 5 best hotdog spots in Birmingham. I just tried it for lunch and I ordered a chili dog and a burger. Let's start with the chili dog. First look it looked as if someone just piled wet dog food on top. Like an insanely amount of chili was on this thing. Not to mention it was bland so I basically took a bite into pure mush. The burger it looked good but ended up being extremely bland and the only thing I tasted was the sauce they put on it. I just couldn't finish this. 2/5 from me. Go check this place out. I'll be sticking with Paul's Hotdogs, Gus's Hotdogs, and Tony's Hotdogs from now on. Take Sam's off that top 5 list and put Paul's in that spot. read more

First time here, honestly we aren't sure how to rate it. We are more here or there about it. The inside was small but wasn't very busy at the time so it was fine. The service was basically just order and they get the food out when it's done. The food, we ordered a hot dog and Philly cheese steak. They don't have cheese sauce for your hotdog, only sliced cheese they can put on it. The chili has beans, so if you don't like beans, don't get it. The Philly cheesesteak wasn't bad, small but not bad for $11. The meat is a little frozen thing of meat, but they seasoned it well. The cheese pull was pretty nice as you see in the photo. read more

My good buddy always mentioned this spot and I'm so glad I finally checked it out last Saturday. I instantly loved the Queen Mother of the spot and how she fawns over her customers. I wanted to hug her as we talked about family and health and just hanging on in there! The vibe in the place feels like a spot Seinfeld or Larry David might visit weekly. You can tell that it has regulars and that you might become one from the moment you walk in. Although I was born in Alabama, I lived in NJ for several years. There's something about this place that reminds me of those sandwich spots owned by generations of families from all over the world that made America home. Thanks to those Jersey memories, I admit I was skeptical about the bun. I'm used to breakfast sandwiches being on Kaiser rolls that are crusty and thick. "This ain't Jersey!" the bun seemed to say. "Mind your business and eat!" So I did and it was a perfect, little sandwich. I'm picky about my eggs: no loose whites with runny yolks. He nailed it! And that bacon is pure YUM! I didn't even need the ketchup that I put on it out of habit. I'll be back for another sandwich (maybe tomorrow) and I'll be at the MS Walk in April. Such a great family and a gem for Homewood! Decent prices, delicious food, cute venue. It's a small location, but it's very cute. How people are so nice to each other in this place and will move their purse or scoot over a couple of chairs so you and Frank could sit together in a great location. However, what you will get is a delicious hot breakfast and lunch, delivered quickly and with a smile. You'll have the pleasure of hearing your bacon pop and your eggs sizzle. And finally, you'll satisfy those high-carb, high fat, not-great-for-you cravings we all have. First, let me say that Sam's can fix anything for breakfast and it will be amazing and delicious. Somehow it's all better here, like when your mom made you breakfast. And finally - my guilty pleasure - the chili dogs. My neighbor wanted hot dogs for lunch. We agreed if he drove, I would pick up the lunch tab. I ordered 4 hot dogs - to be specific - 4 slaw dogs with beef sauce poured on them. 2 bags of chips, and 2 fountain drinks. The total amount with tax, but before tip on my credit card - $31.88. $16 bucks for 2 hot dogs , a bag of chips and a drink! My neighbor says. "No way"! I really could not believe it myself until I opened my Chase app and confirmed the total cost. I am in shock at the cost of this hot dog meal. I will not be returning. Gezz, I don't see how places like this stay open with prices like this. Regarding the food itself - Buns were very fresh - but the beef sauce on the hot dogs - the temperature was not even close to being warm. Maybe tepid room temperature at best. Yo this place is a gem! I never went to the original sams sandwiches location. One day my girlfriend decided to take me for breakfast one day! When you arrive you will see a wall of pictures sam has taken with customers over the years. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. It was so good! I wanted to go back for another. While the new location is top notch, you can tell the meats isn't high quality like it used to be, bland and not as generous with toppings.
