I fully expected to have to explain my situation to an old, grouchy mechanic who wants nothing more than to rip all the phone lines out of the wall and be done with call altogether. I was pleasantly surprised when Renee answered. She was awesome! Told me to come right down. Dennis filled up my 5 quart container swiftly. Dan rung me up at the register. I went there to get my car inspected (11/11/2019, veterans day) .I had 10 days to inspect and I'm leaving the country next day for few days. After the inspection they said I have to replace few parts (total: $2482) to get the inspection sticker. To give an idea: $138 for a rear left break light bulb replacement (Labor) and $515.32 (Parts)+$420 for labor for two rear wheel bearing hub. The same light bulb+Oil change with labor at Valvoline costs $61.10. Parts for rear hub assembly costs $200 on amazon (twice the cost is ridiculous). Other car garages were closed during veterans day. Would never visit again. read more

He honestly can't understand why existing residents don't want their community turned into strip mall hell with increased traffic, crime, higher taxes, HOAs, and busybody yoga-panted Karens running people's lives. I wouldn't know this except that the owner launched into a unprovoked highly emotional diatribe at me while I was trying to pay a two thousand dollar repair bill to pick up my vehicle. It was an answer to a question I never asked, but since I know the owner hates open space, farmland and people being left alone, Guthriesville Auto will get no more money from me. BEWARE! Surprise Fees and Overpriced/Unnecessary Services! Guthriesville Tire & Auto will charge you fees without telling you upfront about any of them. We were charged $185.50 for them to just look at our truck. They do not tell you about the fee to run diagnostics / look at your vehicle until after they do it. We brought our truck in thinking it might need a new spark plug and / or fuel filter due to the truck sputtering sometimes while driving. Thinking it would be a quick and easy repair, rather than take it to our regular mechanic, we took it to Guthriesville Tire & Service as they are only 30 seconds away from us. We told them clearly what we thought the issue might be, and they said they would look at it and get back to us on what they found. They made no mention of a fee to look at it. They called a few hours later and said it was $185.50 just to do the diagnostics (which we have never had charged by our regular mechanic), and had a list of recommended repairs totaling a few thousand dollars. Obviously, instinct is to not trust a company who "surprises" you with a fee, so we declined their recommended services and reluctantly paid the $185.50 for their "diagnosis" to get our truck back. We immediately took it to our regular mechanic, who shook his right away after hearing that we took it to Guthriesville Tire & Service. Apparently they have quite the reputation. Even another mechanic, who was just walking by, heard us, and said "Wow, you must have dealt with Dennis there." and shook his head as well. Dennis is the owner of Guthriesville Tire & Service, and he is the one we dealt with directly. Moral of the story, if for some reason your vehicle ends up at Guthriesville Tire & Service, ask about any and all fees before leaving your vehicle there. And ALWAYS get a second opinion / quote from another mechanic in the area before letting them do any work to your vehicle. Almost guaranteed, the other mechanics price will be cheaper and your vehicle will magically need less work done to it. There are plenty of honest / reliable mechanics in the area. This place does not fit that description. read more

When I moved to the area I wanted to use this service station to support a local business. I've been let down the three times I've been there. Once I had to wait two hours for my vehicle even after they said it was ready. The worst was my wife's experience. She had a nail in her tire and took it in to be repaired. Not only did it take a long time, but they told her she needed new tires. The tires only had 20,000 miles on them. They said it was because she was a woman and probably only used her car to cart around kids to the grocery store, and not like the men who work there and use their vehicles on the highway. My wife commutes to her job 90 miles each day to support our family. This mysogyny disgusts me. To conclude, they also will try to tack on stuff you don't need. The few times ive been there they're always saying something else needs to be done and will upcharge. Once they put on windshield wipers before even asking me. Steer clear (mind the pun). read more

Do not take your car here! They will scam you! They told me I would need over $4,000 of repair to my car. When I took it to another shop, the repair was only $1,300! They will rip anyone off that they think they can take advantage of. Not to mention their customer service is awful and they take FOREVER to get your car done. Beware! These people will sell you parts and repair you don't need! I brought my vehicle in for state inspection, and I measured the tread depth on my tires prior to bringing it in. I knew I was above state minimum. They told me I needed tires, and after I told George what the depth was they backed off. Another time they told me I needed to replace brand new wipers. Stay away unless you have deep pockets. They are very good salespeople, and push parts and service you don't need. unethical! read more

My car is very old and started falling apart. Dennis and his team were so helpful and fixed everything up in a very timely manner. They took care to explain things thoroughly to me and even took me back in the shop to show me the busted parts in my car. Now my car is running smoother than ever and I feel safer driving my car. CAUTION! they WILL try to sell you parts you don't need. I have taken my car here twice for a simple oil change and both times they have told me I need at least 2 major part replacements. At my most recent visit, they told me that all 4 tires (which I replaced less 8 months ago) are "completely bald" and my air filters are "filthy". They went as far as "I don't know how you drive in the rain without sliding everywhere", if to instill some form of fear into a "young naive 25 year old woman" to spend another $1,000. I humored the salesmen and thanked him for his recommendation (knowing the tread on my tires are completely fine), and like clockwork, he continued to pitch me the premium tires I should buy from them, the additional alignment I should get "while i'm at it", and the $10 discount I would receive if I bought everything from them (as if less than a 1% discount is a generous offering). Once finally getting to the payment for just my oil change, to really drive the potential sales, my receipt (along with all the other recommendations) included in all caps "NEED FRONT & REAR BRAKES SOON!" - which I also got replaced within the last year. I am all about second chances, and this place tried to pull the same exact scam a year later. read more

Ok, what can I say about this place, nothing but the best. I have recently had my and my sons vehicles serviced/inspected. Ive got to say, WOW what great service, on time, on budget, they call with an absolutely dead on accurate cost (no surprises). While processing the bill for my truck we spoke of getting a shuttle to retrieve my truck, they said it will be at my house in 30 mins. Well....no sooner did I get home (not even out of work truck) and bam, there they are with my Toyota. The only reason I stopped her was because I was on the way to the beach for vacation and had exhaust issues in guthriesville. The exhaust broke at the muffler and needed to be fixed. They call me the next day and say the exhaust is completely totaled and needs to be replaced for $1300. They also did a complete inspection saying my brakes were metal on metal needing replacing, and my two rear tires were bald and needed replacing. I felt uncomfortable and that Guthriesville tire was taking advantage of me. Told them not to do any work and I would get my car. When I got there they ended up not letting me take my car until I paid them $80 to diagnosis the exhaust being broken at muffler. They never told me about any fees to get the car looked at. Took the car to my auto mechanic who fixed the exhaust for $200, said my brakes are not metal on metal, and that my tires have plenty of tread until next inspection. If I could give this business 0 stars, I definitely would have. We had the most horrendous experience here today. We chose to use Guthriesville Tire and Auto when my husbands truck broke down on his way to work at 6AM. Even though they were a little farther from the break down site, the reviews for them were fantastic so we decided to go with them. Dennis quoted my husband $85 to tow from his location to the shop. He came as promised in a good amount of time. Once to the shop, the truck was looked at and hooked to diagnostics. We were told that the truck needed a new battery and alternator. We remembered that we had just had battery and alternator work done a year and a half ago, so called the company that did the previous work to find out that the battery and the alternator were still under warranty. My husband immediately called Dennis back and explained the situation (all of this within moments of finding out), to be told that he would need to pay for the diagnostics and the towing as well as a re-stocking fee for the items pulled to complete the work. Dennis was not happy with my husband, which I can understand from a business owners perspective, however his rude treatment and condescending nature was unacceptable. My husband was able to negotiate away the re-stocking fee, and agreed to pay the $85 for towing and the cost of the diagnostics on the truck. He went to the location to settle up the bill with Dennis. On his way home, he noticed on the bill that Dennis charged him $105 for the tow, not the $85 as quoted previously. This was not discussed or agreed upon. he simply charged it. When my husband called to question him on it, he gave a line about mileage or something. For comparison, the company that we hired to take the truck from Guthriesville Tire and Auto (Glenmore) to Exton for service charged us $49. Dennis was unwilling to give any on the cost, so unfortunately we had to eat the difference. We always try to patronize local establishments because we believe in putting our money back into our community, but this is one instance where we would have been better off dealing with someone else who would treat us with respect and honesty instead of with hostility. We will obviously never return here, and urge anyone who is thinking of using this business to be very sure about what they are getting and what they are paying for. Upon arriving at my destination, my friend recommended Guthriesville Auto Repair. Dennis greeted me with the utmost professionalism, listened intently to my problem and assured me that they could resolve my issues. He and his technician phoned my home dealer (they worked on my vehicle prior to my trip) and collectively collaborated a "fix." I was in NY when the work was completed so, they delivered my vehicle to my friend's residence! Dennis and his staff went over and beyond and exceeded all my expectations! My vehicle runs like new! First experience. Commercial grade zero turn mower needed a new tire, oil change you know the basics. Maybe a $200 job. Somehow I came out $1000 lighter. But what do I know? So then I take my brand new car, maybe 20,000 miles, for new brake pads. Suddenly I need new rotors. Bam $750 job. Lastly, I hit a rock with my mower and needed a new blade. While there I figured add an oil change. Again, maybe a $200 job. So I said to myself let's see if I get the classic Dennis call telling me I need something else etc. etc. true to form I got it. "Hey this is Dennis, we've got your blade replaced and oil changed but we noticed it also needs XYZ blah blah blah...we can do it today, all in it will cost $750." Gotcha...no thanks Dennis just the oil change and and blade...$200. Every visit a small job turns into a $700 job. Finally I caught on. And to boot, since I got my mower back and did not commit to the $700, it doesn't cut right. Never again will I use these guys. If I could zero stars I would. read more
