Let me start by saying the food here was amazing and I don't think you can go wrong with anything that you pick. The service however, was mediocre at best. The waitress wasn't very friendly or attentive and it didn't seem like any of the staff wanted to be at work. Lol When we went, it was happy hour so it was a half off of any sized hookah, but the waitress didn't seem to understand what happy hour meant for the food menu, so it was a little bit confusing especially because it wasn't printed on anything. It was a nice, clean, cute venue and I would go again because mediocre service doesn't necessarily deter me when the food is really good. Hmmm.... Where do I start? GVO is one of those spots that you keep in your back pocket so that you can take certain cousins or friends from out of town that like no-frill turn up spots (read: rachet - sorry not sorry), you take them here. A friend and I came here a couple months ago on a Sunday afternoon and here's what I got: 1. Red Velvet Chicken and Waffles: I was really excited to try this and was disappointed. The chicken was really good but the waffle was nothing to write home about at all. It wasn't sweet. It wasn't good. I wish I had gotten the regular waffles, which also would have been cheaper. 2. Mimosa Flight: SKIP THIS! This tasted horrible. The best drink in the flight was the mango, but all of the other "mimosas" tasted like gas-station flavored drink mixed with the lowest-bottom-shelf five buck chuck wine they could find. 3. The Oxtail Dinner to Go with a side of greens and candied yams: This was really, really good! The oxtails had great flavor and were really tender. The candied yams and greens were really good too! Now here's the issue.... Somehow all of this came out to $89?! LIKE HOW?! SERIOUSLY, HOW?! The Red Velvet Chicken and Garbage was like $21, the horrible mimosa flight was $15, and the oxtail dinner was $30. All of that should have been like $66 plus tax and tip, so I'm not understanding how that turned into $89?! HOW SWAY?! Seriously, make it make sense because THE MATH AIN'T MATHING AT ALL! Charging $24 for tax and tip and whatever miscellaneous service charge you decided to tack on is outrageous! That was the icing on the cake for me on why I probably won't return to GVO. The vibe during the time when I went wasn't anything to write home about but I'm sure that it gets lit later in the evening. Still, probably not my vibe. Call me bougie if you must. I'll live. This was way too overpriced for a bigger version of a hole in the wall, crawling with dusties. It's a no for me, dawg. GVO is that mid-week spot for me. Their Wednesday wings never miss crispy, seasoned just right, and always served hot. I also love their salmon bites, they're one of my favorite things on the menu! Add in the drink specials and it's definitely the place to be if you want good food without spending a lot. Good service and friendly staff. This was one of the worst and most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had at a lounge in Dallas. My friends and I, all women in our mid-to-late 20s and early 30s, came here on Galentine's Day after spending the day celebrating together. From the moment we walked in, the energy toward us felt off. We asked about getting hookah and were told we could only have hookah if we had a table, which was confusing because there were clearly people at the bar and standing areas with hookah. We split up to order drinks, complied with directions from staff about where to stand, and were minding our business like everyone else. After ordering another round and finally finding open seats at the bar, security suddenly told us we had to leave the establishment entirely -- with no clear explanation -- even though we had just paid for drinks we hadn't even received or finished. What made the situation especially uncomfortable was how aggressively security handled it. Multiple large male security guards -- all significantly older and physically larger than our group of women -- repeatedly approached, surrounded, and pressured us to leave as if we had done something wrong. It felt intimidating, unnecessary, and completely disproportionate to the situation. We were simply paying customers standing and ordering drinks. The situation escalated to the point where one of my friends was visibly upset and crying. Several other customers actually came outside to check on us, console her, and make sure we were okay -- which speaks volumes about how uncomfortable and inappropriate the entire interaction was. Instead of being treated with basic professionalism and respect, we were made to feel targeted, unwelcome, and dismissed after spending money at this establishment. We came to celebrate and support a local business and instead left feeling disrespected, uncomfortable, and honestly shocked by how we were treated. GVO is a cute little lounge located off Rosemeade (the old draft house). They have hookah and a smoking area in the back. The vibe is nice, the staff is friendly and the food is surprisingly very good. For happy hour GVO has $5 patron shots from 5-8 on Fridays and Saturdays. They also have a variety of food options on happy hour such as wings (delicious) and cheese cheese sticks. According to the other individuals in my party, the lamb chops, catfish, greens and mac and cheese are also worth trying. The only complaint I have is that I drink kettle one on the rocks and the price of $13 a drink is pretty steep considering the area. Reserved, see hostess" There were two waitresses sitting and chatting at the table next to us. One was staring at me so I asked if she worked here and she said "yes" asked if she was the hostess and she said "no". Never once walked up to us or tried to. I had to approach her and ask how to get a table. She said matter of the factly that I was supposed to let the hostess seat me. Told her there was no hostess and she looked at the door and said "oh well she should be there" The other waitress (a tad nicer) explained that the hostess is supposed to stop us but sometimes if you look like you're going to the bar they won't tell you anything. Mind you as a hostess you should know that the bar is full and should be letting everyone know accordingly. Anyways we walk ALL THE WAY out the patio, through the restaurant and out the front door. Come to find out the hostess were two women sitting at a table outside the establishment smoking hookah and gossiping. I had to ask if they were hostess and how is the seating set up. The one with the curly hair (smoking hookah) maybe the hostess friend, idk rolled her eyes. The other proceeded to tell me it was a $125 spend limit. I ordered steak fries which is on their menu but they brought out brisket fries. I dont eat brisket so I told them that I ordered steak and the waitress said they dont serve steak fries despite it being listed on their menu which is a pet peeve of mine: why advertise something that you do not sell or why put my order in without informing me first that you dont offer it. I also dont like that they asked me to sign a contract to dine in because after 10pm you have to spend at least $150 for a small table which confused me because there was all of 5 people in there and this is a restaurant not a club. My cousins and I came here for a girls night out. The food was delicious, the vibe was right and the drinks were on point! We purchased a booth in advance since we'd never been there before and I'm so glad we did. We were in a perfect location by the front door and across from the bar, so we had a birds-eye view of everything that was going on. I would've rated 5 stars but because of a verbal scuffle with our waitress I couldn't give a perfect rating. But it took us here. The food has always been good and decent drinks. The hookah it's good but their hookah service is trash due to being rude in nature. There were a couple of times we've tried going after hours, it does turn into a club at around 11-1130, by which you'll need an ID to get in and a table. Good food..good vibe...but Friday and Saturday if you are a guy and get there after 10pm they want you to have a table to enter. They'll let every woman enter but you won't be able to get in. I watched all my female friends enter even though they didn't have a table. It wasn't packed at all. They just don't let guys enter after a certain time. So if you arrive early to get a table & start ordering, it does not count toward the table minimum that starts at 10. You basically have to start over I tried, and it's a no for me as a Black corporate professional. The money isnt the issue, we're going to spend way more than the minimum & tip well anyway but I feel like the constant disclaimers about the seating and the minimum is a turn off.
