Patty melt sort of. I would not get this again. Chicken teriyaki bowl was not great either. They did have a nice chicken poblano soup that was excellent. Probably wasn't supposed to do it but I joined a few others in holding up a piece of bread for the birds to come take out of my hand. The original Gwyn's High Alpine was far and away the best mountain restaurant on any of Aspen's mountains. Unfortunately, the corporation that owns the ski resorts decided to shut down a beloved family-run business and install a bland, cookie-cutter cafeteria that offers nothing worth your time. You could taste the love at the old High Alpine. Now you can taste the corporate indifference. What a shame. read more

First this restaurant isn't Gwyn's anymore. Gwyn's High Alpine deserved 5 stars. The new "High Alpine" is just an overpriced cafeteria with bad pizza, greasy burgers, pre-made sandwiches and salads. The chocolate chip cookies that are packaged are not fresh, they are frozen and defrosted, tasty but artery clogging. I tasted the grill oil on the plant based burger more than the burger and the pastrami Reuben, like 50% fat. I haven't met anyone who doesn't lament this change. I miss Gwen's. So sad to see this place go downhill. read more

I had been to Elk Camp for lunch on the mountain the day before, and my sister in law said she liked Gwyn's better, so we all met there for lunch the next day. I figure that sis liked Gwyn's better because the dining area is a little less crowded than the long tables set close together at Elk Camp. She doesn't have the special diet that I do. I should have looked at all the yummy Yelp photos before coming to Gwyn's because then I would have tried harder to find something that resembled the photos. My cursory glance around the circular food station area only showed me gluten-laden bread, bready things and more bread in various forms. I made a beeline to the area that seemed to have stir fry. The mixed veggies were getting awfully low and I asked the lady if I could have two cups of the veggies. Ended up with only one. (I was splitting a single person lunch with my hubby.) She offered me rice. I said, only one half cup, please. I ended up with much more than that on the plate, but when I asked her to give me less, it slid back into the steam table. I added chicken, enough for two, about six to eight ounces, I told her. I spotted sweet 'tater fries at another station and that brought the veggie total up to what I needed. I did not see any gluten free cookies or treats. I had seen them at Elk Camp. Eating out on the patio was very pleasant. There were grey jays begging for handouts. The view of the mountains was very peaceful. There was live music. What more could I expect or want, having lunch at 10,461 feet? At the top of the Alpine Springs chair lift. I had lunch here at least once a week in the winter during my ski breaks. My favorite one is chicken stew, but sometimes they put to much potatoes and you can't find the chickens . Although I like this place because I love Snowmass mountain a lot. It's my favorite mountain for skiing- in all of four mountain. Snowmass is a perfect mountain for family skiing/snowboarding because they offer so much. Snowmass have jumping parks, nastar race track, beginners to double black terrains, love..love.., Snowmass! George one of the owners of this restaurant is always friendly. They just remodel or demolish this restaurant last summer and it's gorgeous! I love that the toilets are on the 1st floor now it used to be downstairs and it was hassle walking down the stairs on your ski boots. Ps: look for an airplane that hanging in the ceiling upstairs. read more

I had a breakfast burrito with salsa, guacamole, and sour cream; side of potatoes. The food was fresh and tasty, and the staff were friendly. Their cafeteria fare is less expensive than many of the food places and in Snowmass Village. Gwyn's is near the top of the Alpine Springs lift and it is necessary to ski a blue trail to get down. The facility itself is a little older than the others on my the mountain, but well kept. read more

Sit by the picture windows and watch the snow fall, knowing life doesn't get any better than this. It's a tough decision choosing to go for breakfast or for lunch. To do both would be too, too piggish. Either way, it's incredibly delicious, consistently excellent cuisine. This may be my favorite restaurant in the entire world. Reservations necessary. read more

If you find yourself hungry after a hi alpine bump run, then this is the place for you. A family owned restaurant, gwyns does it right. If you are not in the mood for a air down, try the cafeteria. They have an efficient system of moving you thru the line that makes you wonder why places on other mountains can't do the same. The fresh salads are a hit, whether it's a kale salad, a mixed bean salad or a Fresh tossed caesar. Home made soups are a hit as well and the selection changes daily. You don't get these at Highlands which just redid their dining room and took out the fresh salads? I don't get it. This place rocks! read more

The tiny wine glasses and the small bowls of soup are nothing short of what one would expect if one were joining the seven dwarfs for lunch or at your six year old daughters Tea service for her doll house club. Just nothing festive about it. The owner makes it clear right from the start that he is going to serve you good food, charge you a ton for it and make a huge profit and you had better like it, or he will send you elsewhere. I sent the owner an email about this issue and he promptly sent back an email giving us suggestions as to where we might be happier. We took his advise and went to Lynn Britt Cabin on the same mountain and you know we need to give this guy credit, the food was much better there, the plates, bowls and wine glasses were all of a festive size rather than his tiny , I need the money size. The fact that he told us to go somewhere else says a lot about George who I am not sure if he is the owner or if he belongs to Gwyn or if he had been rented out to replace the owners who may have been on vacation. Either way , thanks to George, we have discovered Lynn Britt Cabin at Snowmass and we will be going there on any future ski trips to Snowmass Mountain. We went to Gwyn's for lunch after boarding around Snowmass. The bartenders were friendly (loved the nutty Irishman drink) and the food was awesome (we had the chili and the brisket sandwich). Highly recommend the sandwich!! But in the midst of trying to finish eating and getting back out to board, I completely forgot to close out my tab at the bar. Thankfully, Wendy was able to find it the next day and her husband David agreed to bring my card back down to the village! How amazing is that?! He was so nice and accommodating, since we weren't able to get back up the mountain the next day without snow gear. I don't know what I would have done without David and his wife. It would be so easy for a restaurant to charge high and deliver poor quality as in many resorts with a captive ski audience. Gwyn's has bent over backwards to ensure that there is both choice and top quality food. Everything is made fresh on site. Our group varied from 8-12 over the last week but we kept returning here for lunch. Grass-fed burgers are grilled while you wait, generous, and perfectly done. The salads are a meal on their own and you can have a protein added too. The steak addition is excellent. The salmon addition is also fantastic. Jambalaya was wonderful and there are gluten free options - how civilized! Beware the chocolate eclairs - turns out there are pastry chefs on site, too, and these are as good as the Europeans make. Utterly delicious, addictive and worth the consequences of abandoning gluten free! Gwyn's rocks. Ski in. Eat. Smile. Ski off. read more

Absolutely careless handling of gluten-free items. This is the third time I've gone to this restaurant and gotten a gluten reaction. Their gluten-free menu is not reliable--the "gluten-free Asian vinaigrette" is not even gluten-free--to their own admission--but it has been on the menu for over a year. I can deal with long lines. I can live with paying over $25 for an average sandwich and small cup of soup. But the owner lecturing us on having our gear near us instead of hung up where it can't be seen and easily stolen is a dealbreaker. Breffni, Are you serious. If you eat at a nice restaurant, get a bottle of wine for crying out loud; then you don't have to worry about the glass size. Gwyn (and George) have some very nice and reasonable selections. The over all menu I thought was very reasonable for fine dining on the mountain at Aspen Snowmass. And the portions were killer with great service. I spent about $150 for a couple including tip and a nice bottle of wine for a very nice fine dining experience on the best mountain in America. Get real; you can't beat that. And if you don't believe me ask around and you will find they have a very devoted following. read more

My entire family of 19 has lunch at Gwyn's every day we are in Colorado. We love their famous kale salad and the service is nothing short of spectacular. A few weeks ago, my mother-in-law and I hiked up from Base Village as a bonding experience (newlywed). This place was worth every step. We shared an amazing appetizer of a seafood stuffed puff pastry. Then got great entrees of enchiladas and quesadillas. Even the chef-made dressing for the salad was refreshing after such a long walk. The service was fantastic and the restaurant's namesake Gwynn is so warm and ready with a smile. While I am here I should mention that the fine dining side was a bit of a special treat. Normally my Gwynn's experience is with the cafeteria side. This side is filled with fun, helpful, friendly staff and awesome food. Superb NEW Fine Dining on the mountain. Restaurant newly remodeled with fantastic furnishings and views. The only thing better than the views was the food. We relaxed with wine and enjoyed Elk medallions, buffalo pasta, buffalo burger with truffle fries(the famous one), and salmon. The apple crisp desert finished a delightful experience. read more

For a nice lunch on the mountain, you can't go wrong at Gwyn's. I had the Mediterranean chicken and poached pear salad. I substituted mixed greens for the arugula. It was fantastic. Lots of crunchy candied pecans and the chicken was grilled to perfection. My friend had the Cesar salad and also said it was great. Also like the crocs provided so you can give your feet a break from the ski boots while you dine. This is not a cheap eat for sure, but you get what you pay for. read more

The ambiance of a nicer restaurant is a well respite from a cold mountain. The service is stellar, and the restaurant even has shoes so you can get a breather from the mountain. The food is definitely good, but it is not worth the price. You are paying for the service and the atmosphere. I enjoyed my salmon salad, but by no means was it worth the $30 I paid. read more
