Very delicious ice cream! I chose two flavors: a lavender flavor (I don't remember the exact name) and Kona coffee, which I really wanted to try since we were on the Big Island, where Kona coffee is made. We loved both! What surprised me most was how well these two flavors worked together. When you mix the lavender ice cream with the Kona coffee, the taste comes very close to the lavender coffee flavor which I, personally, enjoy a lot. I know it's not for everyone, but if you like it, this combination is amazing! Honestly, there were so many other flavors I wanted to try but since I was the only one getting ice cream and we were planning to have dinner, I limited myself to two. Unfortunately, it was our last day and we didn't have time to come back, otherwise, I definitely would have tried more. Hopefully next time! P.S. I appreciated that they make their own waffles! When we visit the Big Island of Hawaii one of the treats we look forward to is to stop at least once (last trip was twice) at Gypsea Gelato. Their shop along Mamalahoa Hwy is a perfect stop after snorkeling in Kealakekua or Honolulu Bay (or visiting the Place of Refuge). They have a great selection of Gelato flavors, freshly made. They also have some hand made pastries at this location. There's a decent sized dining room if it's raining, but we enjoy eating our Gelato out back while viewing the beautiful flowers. We've also visited their other location in the Coconut Grove Marketplace in Kailua-Kona town. A great, refreshing treat that we look forward to each trip to Hawaii. read more

Beautiful, delicious gelato. We all had two flavors in our cups, so 10 flavors. And I LOVED them. I ordered the Tom Kha and chocolate orange...two striking flavors with a wild balance. The spicy, gingery bright tom kha was so lovely, and the chocolate orange is so creamy and smooth. Best dessert we had in Kona. Excellent location downtown near all the shops. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. The only drawbacks were no indoor seating and only one reduced sugar option daily, which doesn't get switched until it's empty. This location is super cute and has both indoor and outdoor seating with some games and activities for kids which makes it super family friendly. We loved sitting outside and searching for geckos, they're all over the place and super cute. Stopped by here on the way back up North. Heard this is the best Gypsea Gelato location of the three on the west side and that they have great pastries. Ordered four flavors: Mauka Trail, Tom Kha, Toasted Coconut Haystack, and Lilikoi. Tom Kha was the winner for this visit. Would give it 5 stars for flavor and texture. Inventive, intense flavor, a standout! Mauka Trail and Coconut Haystack were good, but very busy with the other ingredients - you couldn't actually experience the gelato. Lilikoi was very subtle, would have loved a big flavor. The two working the counter were super friendly and a pleasure to meet. Indoors was a pretty large space, lots of tables, cute. We ate out back which is nothing to write home about and smelled weird. Heard the cars from the road so not the greatest location in our opinion. read more

Have been wanting to stop here for a while now but it always seemed to be closed or with too many people in the front. We finally made a stop as the craving for something sweet was too much to ignore! Plus, it was open and not too busy either. The store has some great open seating in the front as well as in the back. There are lots of place to park as there is a larger lot up on the slope behind the store. The choices for gelato was pretty impressive. There were also pastries and coffee available. We tried the dark chocolate with chocolate chips plus two mini cannoli. Wow! It was very good and indulging! Big choco chips to crunch on a smooth taste to pair it with. We had cravings for ice cream and this cute little shop was 10 mins away so decided to go and pay a visit We took the chocolate-coffee-macadamia flavour and the passion fruit , and opted for the mini size . The portion (you get two flavours ) was more than enough for me (adult ), and the choc/coffee/mac flavour was excellent , rich in chunks and yummy . I would hands down say that for Gypsea, this was definitely the most unique flavors of Gelato that I have ever had. And scrolling back through all my reviews last year (2021) I realized I didn't write a review for this place! The flavors here definitely stands out in my memory as the most memorable as it wasn't normal flavors that you would technically expect. I shared the tom kha and lillikoi flavors in a cup and I mean, if you think about it tom kha isn't the first flavor that you would think of when it comes to gelato. When you eat it, it sort of surprises you as you think it's pretty much the flavor of tom kha, but it's frozen so it sort of melts in your mouth while you're eating it. The flavors here are just exciting, something that would be extremely rare on the mainland. I guess that's one thing that stands out most for me as a love for Hawaii, being able to switch things up and try different things. This was pretty awesome and love the fact that the sweetness wasn't overpowering as most other gelato places are. I would love to have this place near where I lived because I would definitely go constantly. read more

What creative flavors to experience! We got the tom kha and lilikoi in a medium cup. The tom kha was literally a soup in a cold, solid(-ish) form, and it somehow works. Lilikoi is a yellow passion fruit grown in Hawaii. A problem I have lately with other ice cream/gelato shops is that the sweetness of the ice cream creeps up on me and I have a hard time finishing my portion.
