After lunch at Mi's waterfront bistro we decided to get some ice cream to cool us down from this humid weather in Kona. We saw the flavors they have and decided what to get my wife got the coconut chocolate Macadamia nut ice cream and myself got the Macadamia nut ice cream. When I taste my ice cream it taste really good nice silky and rich and the Macadamia nut were good. My wife enjoy her ice cream.

It's so weird reading peoples' reviews of this place. More than one said "tourist trap"- written by tourists. Go figure. This is Kona, everywhere is a tourist trap. Tourism is what drives this town. That doesn't mean it always has to be a bad thing. Tropical Dreams is dead center in the touristy part of Kona, in Waterfont Row. Stuck right in between Kamana Kitchen (AMAZING Indian food- go there) and Mi's Italian Bistro (also a good choice), it's a tiny little shop who apparently does a lot of stuff (besides ice cream- shave ice, tea, Italian sodas, smoothies and coffee). I've only had the ice cream here, as Tripical Dreams makes some really great stuff. They have nice creamy ice cream. You get what you pay for, and you definitely pay a pretty penny for this. If you compared a scoop here and at Baskin Robbin, you would more than likely pick Tropical Dreams, it really is much better. I strolled in after eating a monster meat dinner at Kiawe Smokehouse two doors down. After all of that protein and smoke flavor, I had wanted to end with something sweet, and ice cream sounded amazing, but when doesn't it? I didn't bother asking to sample any of the flavors, I just took a quick glance- and ordered a single school of chocolate coconut macadamia nut. Came out to about $4-5. The ice cream was very good. It had the perfect blend and unison of all three flavors. Not too much of any of them, but just right. The little chunks of macadamia nut in the thick creamy chocolat-ey ice cream was magnificent. Service was thankfully not that rude guy I kept reading about in reviews past, but a friendly girl at the counter- who had been busy cleaning the oustide tables and then the inside of the shop before we ordered. Shop was clean inside and out, service was just fine, and the ice cream was bomb. I cant think of anything bad to say. I'll be back again, especially after a meal.

It was a hot day in Kona, so we were looking for shave ice. We saw a sign for Tropical Dreams Gourmet Ice Cream, and a sign that said Shave Ice. The ice cream is locally made at the Tropical Dreams factory. But we were looking for shave ice, and the guy behind the counter said that they made their own shave ice syrup. I decided to go with Vanilla, Lemon-lime and Banana for my 3 flavor choices. The syrup flavors were pretty good, but the shave ice was not very fine. There were some large chunks of ice as you dug further down in the bowl (not a pleasant thing to bite into). We were the only customers ordering shave ice, so they should have taken their time to create a finer shaved snow cone. I think I will research yelp next time that I want shave ice in Kona. Or I'll get the ice cream next time...

Yummy ice creams! But tourist trap prices. $6.20 for 2 scoops. I can get a whole pint of organic homemade back home in my own touristy town for those prices Mr got Mac Nut & Mango Sorbet; I chose the Lilikoi & Toasted Coconut Gelatos were creamy & very flavorful; sorbet was nice & tart w/ lots of mango flavor We'd definitely come back but remember to bring a big wallet

Great as always. Nice way to get out of the afternoon sun and browse shops in Hawi. Highly recommend the trip from Wiakoloa.

I am a huge music person, so coming into a dreamy cafe with lofi music while waiting for our order was also another win. I overall enjoyed the vibe in here, it might not be for everybody but it definitely is for me! the cups were a huge hit. if I remember correctly they used to have shorter cups with pink wings, they were okay but these new cups had our whole group talking about them even after we've left. it genuinely had us debating on keeping them! the lids had cute bear ears and the cups were taller and slimmer which gave it such a new feel, we've never seen cups like this so we were very excited. such a small detail made a huge impact on our experience. the service was nice and fast! the nice man who took our order was quick and just overall a cool guy. he was alone which I don't really like but thankfully it wasn't too busy for him and there wasn't a queue. the wait time for 3 drinks was only about 5-6 minutes maybe even less without a queue. everyone especially ME absolutely LOVED our drinks. I saw a review saying the brown sugar boba drink was bland and personally I just think it was probably their first time ever trying it. bland is the milk tea cans you get at a gas station, this drink is TOO good to be sold there & it's hard to mess up a brown sugar drink, especially if it's your go-to order at any boba place. For the other drinks in the photo it was still an epic win! it was their first time coming here and they've said it might be the best drink place on the island and we've lived here for a couple years and explored many places so this says a lot. Overall, this place went from a 4/10 to a 10/10 and we love it and will for sure be back!

The fake cherry blossom tree and the angel wings are definitely social lures. We came here on a weekday evening. It was very busy! There was only one cashier and he was the one who puts the order together as well. We took pictures and I did a video as we waited. It was a very long wait. I think we were 3rd in line after a couple, and the 2nd was a couple with 3 children. After waiting for over 10 mins, we decided to sit down. We noticed there were 2 other groups already seated and waiting before our line started. Mid wait, another 2 groups came in. The cashier attended to them and continued to fill orders. He did great for the amount of people he had to serve. We ordered the brown sugar tea with boba. It was very bland! I mean like milk with some sprinkles of sugar lol the boba had no taste and they were small boba balls. I was disappointed. I gave the extra star for the decor.

Their customer service reply really made up for the previous experience with their staff and they ensured me they would address the issue with their team. :) Old review: I visited the Gypsea Gelato in Kona today and was extremely disappointed with the service. I ordered a single scoop child's cone and was told "We only have our Ube waffle cones, we are out of the rest... but don't worry they don't really taste like ube". I said ok, that should be fine since my daughter wants a cone. When I get to the register, after they had already filled her cone, I was told the price was $8.50 for the child's size ice cream and charged an additional $3 for their "specialty cone". Prior to choosing the cone, I was not told anything about it costing $3 additional dollars. Nor that a kids size scoop for that cone would be $8.50 when it should usually be $4.99. So I paid $11.50 for a child's ice cream. When I brought my concern up to the 3 teenagers working there, they all made me feel as though I was in the wrong for not knowing my child's cone would be $11.50. One of the staff checked to see if there was a price on the front of the sample cone thinking she could rub that in my face but there was no price shared. So, I had literally no way of knowing how much I would end up paying until it was too late and no apology or kindness was shown whatsoever. Another staff member said "we aren't in charge of what they give us"... and to that I say, that doesn't absolve you from sharing the price of this speciality option -which again, was the only cone option offered. Had I known I would be paying $11.50 for a child's cone, we would have happily ordered the $4.99 cup. I'd appreciate if the manager would get in touch with me -not so much for the outrageous cost but more for the fact that their staff provided such poor service in not sharing the price, and not trying to kindly resolve the issue.

Unless you're a coffee connoisseur, you may want to skip the pour over for something a bit less special to save yourself a few dollars. In terms of atmosphere, Kona Coffee & Tea has plenty of seating outdoors around the porch and a few high tables indoor, where they have AC blasting at full strength. They have free Wi-Fi available as well, so I saw a lot of people posting up on their laptops. Parking is plentiful and easy to find since this coffee spot is located in a strip mall.
