We called the restaurant for pick up, we got 3 chicken wraps. When we got there, the smell inside the restaurant was incredible and so warm. The food made car smell very good too. However when we tasted the wrap, most flavors were lots and lots salt and pepper. There was no warmth of Mediterranean spices we were hoping for. Portion was very generous. First let me say- they have the best baklava in saint Louis. Sometimes I'll stop by just for that. The gyros and combo plates are all very yummy and you get a good amount of food for your money. Every time I've been, the staff is friendly. I usually take my food to go. The shop is a bit small and isn't really the kind of vibe that makes you wanna visit for a sit down experience, but it's simple and clean if you do decide to stay. I'm waiting on the merchant to review their records and release my pending purchase of $23.34 - I did not receive the food and after being treated as if I was being dishonest about your dated system told not to come back - hilarious! and I left what I did not finish that was paid for in cash after the error was discovered. What I am hoping, this is a lesson in customer service for the lady that tossed her 3 pennies at me; after asking for a receipt. When in fact a receipt should have been given before the error was discovered. Nothing super special about this place. The interior is rather plain. It is just one of those places that you go to when you want some Mediterranean food and need a quick bite. What I ordered: the falafel salad. The falafel itself was not as flavorful as I would like; however, when I crushed it up and mixed it in with the salad, it was tasty. It's a small locally owned place that has some amazing gyros. They also have homemade baklava and spanakopita which are amazing. I always get the jumbo gyros because it comes with a TON of meat that is so succulent and flavorful. The tzanziki is also to die for. The perfect addition to a gyro. The only downside is that you have to pay extra for feta, but it comes with the gyro. I usually take half the meat off and eat with rice for another meal later. Years ago I would have yelped this place as a 4 but on this latest visit it was at best a 2.5 Baklava: Now I have never had it with a hint of cinnamon, which I liked. The phyllo dough was flaky and crispy like it should be. The walnut and syrup were fresh. (You can tell when baklava it's not fresh by the syrup being very runny) What I didn't like is paying $2.50 for a triangle. I could have sworn I was told it would be the square (or 2 triangles put together) for that high az price on 1 triangle I got to go with 2/5 all day Reg gyro. To make this real simple and quick: Pita : fresh and warm Tzatziki sauce: cool and flavorful garden fresh Tomatoes onions lettuce: fresh and crisp Gyro meat: room temperature Ok which of the 4 choices above do not belong?^ Here's why the gyro meat was room temperature: The guy gave the meat from the spicket that was ¾ gone. Come on, I should gotten meat from the full spicket ;especially since I was the only one in there @ lunch time. The sandwich wasn't bad but it could have been better 2.5 out of 5 Overall it's not the same place I once had to go to get a Gyro as in the past. Over 6 years later we found ourselves back, once again, to eat some gyros. Gyro house is popular, small, and a great place for a quick sandwich and good bite to eat. With a friendly staff and plenty of options, anyone could enjoy a good meal. Along with our gyros, we tried the hummus and falafel platter and our friend ordered the special Greek egg rolls. The egg rolls were delicious! They had a unique spices and flavor, plus they were not anything like Chinese egg rolls. I liked them much better too! While to rest of our food was good, the flavor is lacking in most of the items. The hummus was smooth in texture, but didn't have a huge flavor and the falafel was also lacking in flavor. The gyro and the deluxe gyro (my husband's choice) were good, but didn't have anything that made them "sizzle." The tzatziki was bland and didnt add anything to the meal. When I asked for everything separate they literally mixed everything together in the corner let, Tom, onion, feta cheese and only a small spoon full of cucumber sauce, which wasn't enough at all for the gyro. The meat was a little over cooked and the fries were cold af, I wasn't impressed at all really pissed I jus spent 35 dollars on sum I couldn't even eat. However, this time around I went with their regular gyro, as I had gotten the jumbo one before. Now this is the part I've come here to write about specifically; if you are one with a modest appetite and don't typically go for the size up order, you will find out you have to pay an extra dollar for FETA. FETA! Last I checked feta is an essential ingredient on a gyro. Despite the rest of the good reviews on here, let me do you a favor and redirect you if you are specifically looking for a gyro: Ocean Grill. Sure, it might be a little out of your way, and not on Del Mar, but I'm telling you right now. you won't regret it. On top of the extra dollar, you will have to pay for fries, which isn't abnormal for restaurants, but if you were to go up one more block there is Gyro Grill which apparently claims that their gyro comes with fries and a drink (albeit, I've never been there so cannot report on quality), but back to comparing Gyro House to Ocean Grill... Ocean Grill's gyro ALSO comes with fries, and they are worth going there alone. So, please, do yourself a favor and try something outside of the box from the Del Mar Loop and I promise you will not regret it. Gyro House is clearly pinching pennies and it's honestly a disgrace to the food considering it's actually pretty good, even though the pita is relatively small and, once again, the freaking feta. read more
