The food here is probably the best Greek food I've ever had. Nothing is ever over done or stale. Everything always tastes freshly made and well seasoned. The portions are just right, almost bordering on too much and the price is very reasonable. The owner (who always seems to be working there) seems a bit shy and quiet at first, but after a few times of talking to him he's always very warm and willing to chat. The only downsides to Gyro Stop are 1) it's all the way downtown and 2) it's not exactly in the nicest area of town. You might be a little apprehensive about going in when you pull into the parking spot. The decor inside is definitely original. The chairs have seen many butts and they show it. But don't let any of this keep you away! If you don't want to eat inside, at least call ahead and pick up some delicious food to go! If I was a millionaire, I'd pick this guy up and plunk him down in some awesome new little restaurant and eat gyro's till I popped. read more

First time eating here since coming to Killeen. Honestly I'm disappointed I didn't come sooner. For lunch I got the standard gyro meal for me and my wife. By the time I was half way through with both the gyro and the fries, I was getting very much full. The gyro was definitely one of the biggest ones I've tried. The taste alone was awesome. The lamb fell apart with ease for both me and my wife's. The peta bread was not burnt or under cooked and was still nice and warm even after an 8 minute drive back home. The amount of ingredients was definitely just right. Not too much onions, tomatoes, or sauce but definitely didn't skimp on anything. First time in here! Right off the bat when we walked in the place smelled like good food. It was a bit dark inside because the lights were off but the natural light was more than enough to make up for it creating a very cool and nice lunch. The owner was the only one working but he easily kept up with everything. He was a bit quiet and didn't smile much but was very friendly and helpful The food did not take long to come out, shorter than most Greek places I've eaten and it was spot on what we ordered. It was nice that they have a kids menu for the kiddos that are picky. The girlfriend and I both got Gyros and they were perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. The sauce could have used a bit more of a bite but it was still awesome. The fries were cooked great with a crunchy outside with a soft inside and tasty as heck. My husband and I both ordered the Gyro Platter based on a suggestion from someone at work. The lamb meat was probably the best we've had here in Killeen. Even our toddler liked it. The tzatziki was creamy and the pita bread how warm and tasty. We look forward to trying some of their other dishes. I went to this gyro shop 12 yrs ago while my husband was stationed there in Fort Hood. I frequentd this eatery dozens of time, and in all I LOVED IT! I recently visited to see the owner and tatse the food, STILL SO Authentic, and SUPER YUMMY! Yes I say YUMMY, its the love this man puts in his food and those extra touches that spike your pallet. Gyro are still awesome, the hummus, made in house fresh, and the sides to dip. I never thought RADISHES, but bro does it go so good, especially because he puts olive oil on top of hummus, at no charge and elevated it to WAMMO GOOD. I'll give this place 3.5-4.0 stars. The gyro sandwiches are great- not sure how exactly authentic they are but they do taste fresh. We have only ordered gyros here but I would like to try the falafel. Nothing fancy on the inside but the owner/operator is very nice and will remember you if you come in often. I used to work for Sammy years ago at City Cafe which is by all the clubs when I was like 17 years old maybe even younger. I lived in NY for 20 years and the food here is as good as you will find in Astoria, Queens. Only classic Greek ingredients in your Gyro's. You will not find three cheese fiesta mix thrown over everything like another restaurant in Harker Heights. This is the real deal and you wont be disappointed. When I PCS'd to Hood I stopped at the Gyro Nook expecting traditional Gyros that I love and was disappointed when they served me something other than that. This is up from the Killeen post office on 10th Street. It's totally not glamorous & has been there for years & years & years (according to a 74yr old local woman I know). The owner is Greek and he's very nice. I stopped in late one afternoon to get some take away for dinner and he made everything right there in front of me while I waited. The decor inside is older, the tables & chairs have definitely seen their share of wear & tear, but don't let any of this keep you from eating there. It's older & worn inside, but it is clean. I got a Greek salad, which was huge, and a gyro with fries. While the portions were not not overwhelmingly huge, they were not skimpy by any means, and everything was very good - granted it's hard to mess up a gyro, but the meat was not dry or tough, it was perfect. Yeah, it's divey, a little broke down, and not in the best part of town. But it's clean, the price is right, the proprietor is friendly, and the food and portions are excellent. I've been eating Gyros around the Killeen area for two decades and Gyro Stop, despite appearances, is the best one around. I enjoy the Gyros Platter while my wife gets the Gyros Special with fries. Absolutely adore this place! The owner, Sam, is one of the nicest people I've ever met and I look forward not only to the food, but to speaking with him as well. He runs the entire thing by himself, and still manages to make fresh, delicious food- all the while being the cashier, cook, waiter, dishwasher, and manager, too! The food is so good! Whenever I'm visiting Killeen, I make it a point to come eat at the Gyro Stop at least once. I bring everyone here. I always order the Hummus plate (appetizer) and the Gyro platter. He gives fresh veggies with the meal, and everything is cooked to perfection. The gyro meat has a slight crisp on the outside but is still tender and moist. A true diamond in the rough! I Stopped in here after a long day at work, just an hour before closing. I Was delightfully greeted by whom I perceived to be the owner. Upon completing my order My food was brought to my table. I ordered a traditional Gyro sandwich with feta which by the way was old world style feta and not the crumbled, Six Falafel and an appetizer of hummus. Being from NYC I honestly admit this food was by far the best I have ever had. Additionally, I ordered a second Gyro with the expectations of taking it home with me. The atmosphere was very comfortable. The owner walked over and we conversed for a good thirty minutes. Furthermore, I devoured my second sandwich before I left the place. This is by far the best Mediterranean/Arab food restaurant around. The food was excellent. The only thing that kept it from getting five stars was the wait. I called my order in, and was told it would take 15 minutes. I live 15 minutes away, and waited a good ten minutes before heading out. I still waited 20 minutes in the restaurant for everything to be ready. My 15-minute order took nearly 45 minutes to be ready. It was worth it, though. This place is way too overpriced!! We ordered two plates mushrooms and a desert along with some french fries. We didn't even get the mushrooms! In total we spent 30$. All for terrible service he didn't even look at us while ordering! My husband is a huge gyro fan and even he said that the lamb was bad. In my opinion the lamb taste like straight up pepper and nothing else. The french fries taste like the were bought at Walmart in a bag and frozen. The food took an insane amount of time and its not even good. I will admit the lettuce and tomato are fresh but not enough. The gyro sauce taste like straight up mayonnaise and yogurt. read more
