We ordered last week and it was a disaster. The rice was undercooked, and the Greek salad came with a creamy mustard dressing. This had never occurred in the past. My daughter is severely allergic to sesame seeds, yet the menu does not did not state this. Many people are allergic to seeds and this is something that can be life threatening so please let your customers know this! Although I am not Greek, I am from Astoria born and bred and this is the first time I come across Greek salad with a creamy mustard dressing. To make matters even worse, I call them since I tasted mustard in dressing and wanted to make sure since my daughter is allergic. The gentleman on phone checked with the kitchen and the confirmed. He then hands the phone over to the "manager", a lady who went on a rant about how she had been working there for 15 year?! No ma'am you guys have only been there for 8 years. She got so defensive stating that their salad has "always" come with that creamy mustard dressing. Nope, I've only gotten it with red wine vinaigrette. Gyro World is serving up authentic Greek dishes in Astoria. I was able to try a plethora of dishes. The meats were seasoned well and juicy. That chicken and gyro were fire and packed with flavor. Then on the souvlaki meats I got bigger pieces of chicken with herbs on it. I was able to try different spreads like spicy feta and tzatziki. The pita was nice and fresh. It was my first time trying The Greek sweets. The baklava was amazing. The texture on the orange pie was interesting and you get a rich orange flavor. Overall this place has a family vibe to it. Ate here today by myself on a nice Wednesday morning trying this place out. I had only brought the beef and lamb platter that comes with pita bread, raw onions, tomatoes, fries, a can of soda and tzatziki sauce. It was definitely great and delicious. The service was just alright and the cashier took my order was kind of rude to me while I was trying to order and served me with an attitude when I sat down patiently and got my order correctly. I placed an order thru Uber eats. They had a special going on that said "buy one get one free" I decided to order for that reason. I ordered the chicken souvlaki dinner box that comes with chicken souvlaki, lemon potatoes or rice (I chose potatoes) and a Greek salad. The restaurant then called me to tell me they are not doing that special and wanted to let me know so I'm not disappointed. They asked if that was ok and I said sure. I received my food and the portions were extremelyyyyyyy small!!! I could understand If that was the portion with the buy one get one free special but for $18.95?!?! Been trying to find a good Gyro spot for a while b/c the one near me on 21st & 36th St don't make fresh Gyro. So I tried this spot b/c it's part of a chain from Bayside. It looks almost exactly like it. I ordered 2 Gyro sandwich's and a side order of fries to go. I get in the bag 1 Gyro inside with fries. I had told the guy I wanted a side order of fries not a combo on top of that he only gave me 1 Gyro of which I also said 2 Gyro's. During check out I noticed the price of the Gyro was $19 each, I was like why is it so expensive, other spots charge like $10 to $12. The Gyro's was good and packed with meat and the fries were good as well, but it does not justify $19 a Gyro. I will think about coming here next time until I find another spot to order. read more

The quality of food is always good, fresh vegetables especially. It has always been, for us, overpriced but delicious. Service has always been very friendly. Recently they've reduced the portions, the size of the vegetables and halloumi in the halloumi lunch box ($18, in photo) are all about 2/3 the size they used to be. Smaller and thinner sliced. And no pita included anymore. Used to be a once in a while thing but not likely to visit much anymore in favor of some other places that also do halloumi well. read more

We have been patrons of this establishment a couple of times and both times the food was decent to great. The second time we came, they forgot the fava dip and apologized by reheating the already cold bread and gave us a mini cup of their spicy cheese to try. Yesterday, we ordered taramasalata (fish roe yogurt) dip, bifteki the meatloaf patties) platter that comes with a spinach pie and lemon potatoes, and a chicken bifteki(think chicken meatloaf). The roe came first, it was ok. Then someone decided to take a sharp left turn to crazyville. The spinach pie. We read about their pie on the paper placemat they laid on the table and thought it would be nice to try something they're so proud of. Boy, were we in for a surprise. The pastry dough was tough, chewy and dried out. When the waiter swung by to check in on us, we told him about the pie. He said umm for a second and left us with the unfinished pie. We had to flag him down a second time to ask for a replacement. He said he would get back to us after speaking to the manager. He then came back and told us he could not replace the pie because it was mostly eaten. Mind you, this is a side order included in the platter meal. We both took one bite each to the slice of pie and I had to spit the pie out because the texture of the crust was just too chewy. He said the only thing he could do is have us order something else and that he has to charge us again. Not only did he not try to rectify the problem, he asked us why we did not tell him to replace the pie the first time around. We said we did tell him about and he said he stood there a good five seconds after he checked in on us the first time (he stood there for a sec and ran off). I had to question him why does that even matter whether we asked him to replace the pie the first time around or the second time around. A server should offer a replacement or at least be helpful and take the inedible food away and apologize for the chef. Not in this case! Was it our job to give him options? The rest of the food that came afterwards were unremarkable. The lemon potatoes which are normally good here were hard and dry and the biftekis were undistinguishable loaves of fillers. By the end of the meal, the pies were still sitting on our table. Needless to say, we left $0 tip to the skinny waiter with the curly hair and glasses (Petros R.) Why would we order other food items and try to rip you off of a side order?!?! We also has been served by the same waiter the first time we were here. Oh well! This restaurant explicitly ignored the request to separate the food for a vegetarian who hasn't eaten meat in nearly 2 decades. They mixed all of the dip together after the the instructions stated to clearly place them in different containers. God forbid this person had a food allergy. Total disregard for customers request. After exploring the nearby Museum of the Moving Image, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place on 30th Ave here in Astoria. Knowing that this neighborhood is known for Greek food, we figured we'd stop for a bite. The setup is casual, as you'd expect from a regular gyro joint but the menu is the real deal. We ordered Cokes (his Mexican, mine diet) and meals. I went with the open-faced lamb gyro, while he went with the pork souvlaki platter, both priced decently. Service was a little slow, but we chalked this up to the staff being meticulous with preparing good food. Our meal came with fresh pita, drizzled in olive oil and served with a side of tzatziki. The bread had a good elasticity, with enough oil to glide blissfully into our stomachs. The tzatziki was creamy and fresh, with good herbal notes. Both of these paired well with our meals. My boyfriend enjoyed his pork souvlaki; though both of us found it a bit chewy, it was still filled with flavor. He also enjoyed his crisp side Caesar and his fries (which were on the soft side, but well seasoned). As for me, i learned that "open-faced" in this case, came with small bites of pita alongside meat, onion, tomato, and feta to "build your own" gyro. No matter. My gyro meat was perfect, with a good amount of savory spice and texture that elevates it beyond everyday New York street meat. It paired well with the freshness of the tzatziki, the sharp bite of onion, the softness of the bread, and the saltiness of the feta. A winning combination for sure! I lived in Astoria back in the 90s and that's when I really developed a love for Greek and other Mediterranean cuisine. I had some work in Queens a few months ago and found this great gyro spot. Each month, I stop by and get a chicken souvlaki with pita and two beef and lamb gyros. Don't forget the extra side of Tzatziki which is delightful! When they opened here in Astoria, I would have rated them a 3.5 overall (4.0 food- 3.0 high price/service). I have ordered at least a dozen times since and they have improved mainly in the price (turns out other Greek restaurants are very similarly priced). I did not count the Greek food trucks prices and Gyro World's score should not suffer from that perspective. Which raised their score to a solid 4.0. But last night I ordered through the Seamless app for pickup and when I arrived the order was not there. Turns out the Seamless app sent my order to the Fresh Pond, Maspeth location and not the Astoria location which is the only one I've ever used and since the app uses the phone GPS I have no clue why it diverted to the different store & area. So this is where they have earned their *****5***** star rating from me. Lambros at the counter called up the Maspeth location and told them to ignore the Seamless mistake and he will handle it here in Astoria. He got my order from my phone and proceeded to fulfill it. He understood the honest error, didn't bust my Loukoumades AND let me know they have their own order app that does not rip the restaurant off in 3rd party inflated commissions. The most amazing, flavorful & crispiest pita! (See photo for emphasis). I was so full from the pita that I could barely finish my salad but it was still really good. My boyfriend for the platter with the lemon potatoes and he loved how they were perfectly season & cooked just soft enough that they practically melted in your mouth. I ordered the first time today delivery from Gyro World. All I can say is WOW! The food was so delicious. Gyro World has become my new spot for Greek Delicacies. I had started with the Avgolemono soup. Chunks of chicken , very tender and very tasty. I also had a chicken gyro sandwich. Worse Gyros in Astoria. The place out in Ridgewood is much better, but this location sucks. The staff is also extremely rude and unwelcoming, I guess to match with the bad food? My new favorite gyro joint! Stopped here on a whim when I realized it looked new to the area. My boyfriend and I stopped in for a pick up order of a gyro platter-pork, beef &lamb, fries and salad with an additional soup on the side. So good!! 3 days later we were back for the sit down experience. We ordered a gyro platter again, pork, beef & lamb mix, added haloumi cheese, fries, a Greek salad and the avgolemono soup. I have gone to this place a few times and everything has always been great. However this last time I invited 3 friends for a quick bite outside and the food was terrible. We had to order and pick up service and eat outside no problem, except everything was cold. My calamari which is usually perfect was old and cold. We order pork, chicken Sandwich COLD, Gyro platter over priced and Cold. Beer hot and over priced.
