I came here to celebrate my co workers birthdays in September and it was an amazing experience. The waitress was so incredibly kind and patient as we had a larger party. I would say 3.5 stars. Originally I wanted to visit this place for their restuarant week menu but when we arrived, it seemed like restuarant week was over. (We did a quick google and seemed like it ended for this restaurant a couple days prior). There's cute outdoor seating but due to the hot weather, we opted to sit inside with the air conditioner. We arrived during lunch so there was a prefix lunch special for $29 that includes appetizer, main, and chef choice dessert. We ordered the fried calamari and the spanakopita. Originally we wanted the mussels or the meat skewer but was notified that both were not available which was quite disappointing. For mains we ordered a chicken kebab and a mousaka. There was also complimentary bread that was crispy but the olive oil it came with was flavorless. The calamari was good! The batter was light and crispy and the dip was good. But I would say the portion size was tiny. We ate like 2-3 pieces of calamari each. The spanakopita was good too! The layers were so light and crispy. By main course we were quite full already. The fries that came with the chicken kebab were so soggy. I was quite disappointed by how soggy the fries were. The chicken kebab was also dry and flavorless. The mousaka on the other hand was incredibly flavorful and delicious. Never tried it before but really enjoyed it. For the chefs choice dessert, I wasn't quite sure what it was but it was quite heavy like cookie dough. Personally I wasn't a fan but my friend enjoyed it. Service was nice in the beginning but by the end, it took a lot of time to get the attention to the waiter to pack up our food and to get the bill. Also, they charge a credit card fee 3% for all credit cards which personally I've never seen in a dine in restaurant so I was quite surprised. And also the suggested tip on the receipt is after tax and other fees which is not really how tip should be calculated. If I could give zero stars, I would. I was staying with friends in Astoria this weekend and they suggested Nisí for dinner after a busy day. Let me be very clear -- this is NOT a place I will ever return. I have no idea how the ratings are so high. Service - terrible. The wait staff was kind but painfully slow. We were not in a hurry but this was absurd. We were seated at least 20 minutes before they took our food order. To be clear, there were several other tables there but they were not Friday night packed as it was past the dinner hour. Food - also terrible. It stated ok. The table had some starters that were largely good. But nothing to write home about. The mains were another story. I ordered the shrimp and orzo dish. My shrimp were bad. Not as in "I didn't like them" but when I touched them they were slimy and my finger could go through them like wet clay. It was truly vile. To the servers credit he was pretty horrified and immediately took them back. About 10 minutes later (again, a service issue) he returned and asked if I wanted another main. No. I did not. At that point I didn't trust anything coming out of the kitchen. They removed the shrimp from the bill and brought a dessert for the table. Again, the dessert was fine but nothing to write home about. Aside from the horrified waiter, I did not get any follow up from anyone else at the restaurant. No apologies- even from the waiter. 0/10. Nisi Estiatorio had always caught my eye while walking through Astoria, the fresh, sleek look and pop of pink bougainvillea make it such a charming spot. We finally decided to try it for a Friday date night. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, our waiter didn't seem very welcoming or cheerful. Luckily, the weather was perfect for sitting outside which added to the experience. Drinks were okay, and while there was a live DJ, the vibe could've used a bit more energy (maybe stronger drinks would've helped!). We started with the $16 Kalamarkia (fried calamari with garlic aioli) really tasty and a great portion to share. The $26 Kotopoulo Souvlaki (chicken skewer with fries and salad) was fine, though the chicken was a little undercooked for my taste and I ran into some chewy bits. The highlight of the night was definitely the $28 Trahanoto Kotopoulo ( sautéed chicken with frumenty, mascarpone, and pesto), my fiancé and I were fighting over who would get to finish that dish. Overall, it's a beautiful restaurant on a lively street with a moderate price range -- worth a visit, especially for that trahanoto dish. read more

The Greek salad was fresh, crisp, and well balanced. The complimentary bread was warm and delicious. My hanger steak leaned a little salty for my taste. The branzino was nicely seasoned. For dessert, the baklava had good flavor but was a bit too soft, possibly from being reheated. Sides are sold separately. While the flavors were generally enjoyable, I was hoping for a bit more precision in execution given the price point. Space: really pretty, clean, and reflective of Greece aesthetic. Really nice to see the space that once was the famed Athens Cafe go back to its Greek roots. My friend and I stopped here for dinner and its nice outdoor seating was definitely a huge deciding factor that lured us in. We arrived during their happy hour but were told that the special pricing only applied at the bar and not with regular seating...odd. They also didn't have a few things on the menu that we wanted like the Halloumi and the Hoirini Stavlisia, which was disappointing and left us wondering if they often don't have a full menu. Despite not having a few of the things we really wanted, we were happy with the food that we ordered: * Htapodaki (grilled octopus) - Pretty standard and most importantly, not dry * Horiatiki - traditional Greek salad that was done really well. Hard to mess this up unless you really wanted to * Feta Phyllo - we loved this. The honey and sesame seeds really balanced the feta cheese fried in the flaky phyllo * Lamb Kembarakia - disappointing. This came last and we shared the same confused look when we saw the 3 small pieces of lamb, some small grilled veggies, and a bunch of soggy fried potato slices. Not worth it at all and expensive. Service was okay, I felt like our waiter wasn't really helpful when it came to suggesting alternatives to the food we originally wanted that were unavailable and also didn't give any sort of explanation about the bar-only HH deal. Are you looking for a more upscale and classy Greek restaurant that is conveniently located and will impress visiting out-of-towners? Nisi fits the bill. This is not my favorite Greek restaurant in the neighborhood because it is a bit more on the "higher prices, smaller portions" side of things (don't worry, you will still leave full though). However, it exceeded my expectations. Nisi has a fantastic location right near the 30th Ave stop. The all white decor and plentiful (shaded) outdoor and indoor seating will make you feel like you're at the Greek seaside and needing to wear your finest cruise / resort wear. However, fortunately, they don't bat an eye if you are actually dressed in a tank top and shorts (like I was). The standout to me here was the cocktail I had - there was one with "sunset" in the name that was INCREDIBLE. It made me want to come back here for Happy Hour (my friend's friend apparently swears by it on weekdays). Food-wise, everything was really solid. The three of us split the pikilia (pita and different spreads - all excellent), grilled calamari, karpouzi salad (watermelon and feta! I was surprised by how much I liked this, although I agree with whoever else reviewed and said that the mascarpone and additional melons seemed unnecessary), and lemon potatoes (great, as always). Went there for a dinner and were warmly welcomed. Nice place with roomy spots to sit. It turned busy after we arrived We started with fava which was quite nice and was served with pita. The salad was fresh and had a good amount of feta. The octopus was also good. Nice dressing and soft not chewy. The shrimp were a nice portion of 5 and were served grilled on a bed of arugula. For the entree we shared a red snapper served with Horta. We got an extra portion of Horta with it and it was nice. The fish was flaky and cooked well. The herbs on it were intense and may have consisted of some pepper. One of the party did not like that bit I found it fine. Lots of lemon drew out the taste The desserts were the galaktoboureko and kormos. Both were enjoyed. I tried them both and found them to be as expected...very sweet, but flavorful. Welcome to 30th Avenue in Astoria! I have been literally dying to come here since they opened last year and we finally got around to it due to Restaurant Week; $45 for a 3 course meal??? Sign us up! To drink my best friend got the Santorini Sunset and I got the Windy Paros. Both drinks were delicious and had a good amount of alcohol for $15. To eat, she went with the restaurant week menu and I got a Greek burger with fries. Her first course was a Greek salad which was a nice size as it fed both of us, her dad got the grilled octopus, her sister the saganaki and her sisters husband the spanokopita. All were good sizes and were shared with our party of 5. For the main course she got the lamb chops, her sister the biggest Maine lobster I had ever seen and her dad and sister's husband the rib eye. This course took a rather long time (about 30 minutes) so thank god we got the "first course." It was worth it though! Everything was so fresh and flavorful. My burger was juicy and just at the temperature I like it! The crispy "fries" on the side reminded me of Europe. Lastly we ended our meals with baklava. A little Disappointed that it's the "only dessert" we got as the other table got another one. Four people in our table got the restaurant week special. Also, I don't mind the staff being attentive but I also mind when you're breathing down our neck! I mean the place was practically empty; it was Sunday night. Holy crap this was GOOD! I did get take out (sadly, unable to enjoy the bar), and got the Grilled Salmon. The bartender was very accommodating, able to make me comfortable with water while waiting for the Salmon (and asked if I wanted ice, THANK YOU! (braces hate ice)). The actual food? PERFECT. Loved the sleek modern look from the outside and finally decided to stop in while me and my husband were in the mood for Greek. So pleasantly surprised by this spot! Definitely in my opinion one of the better Greek options in the area. Our waitress was super friendly and started us off right away. We got an array of our usual "safe foods" to really see if this can become a staple spot for us and it totally passed. My wife has a severe dairy allergy, and Nisi Estiatoro sent her to the hospital. Do not trust this restaurant if you have allergies. (She's okay; she had her EpiPen with her when the anaphylaxis set in, and we just went to the hospital for monitoring. Still, we were there until 3am, so unless that's your idea of a nice end to the evening, steer clear.) We don't eat out much, and we have to be very careful when we do. We were optimistic about this place because it seemed nice and had gluten-free markings on the menu. Greek food is relatively safe for her because it's traditionally cooked in olive oil and, while cheese is a common ingredient, it's obvious on the menu and usually not a source of cross-contamination. And we had what seemed like a good conversation with the waiter where he understood her concern, pointed out several items on the menu that he thought would be safe, and promised to talk to the kitchen. Well, either he didn't actually do that or the kitchen just doesn't care, because her BP was crashing within half an hour of finishing dinner. She had the steak, and our best guess is that either it or one of the side-dishes was cooked in butter. Other than failing a basic duty of care, it was pretty good. Several months have passed since my first day at Nisi, and their day three at their relocated, Astoria location. I felt a responsibility to update my fellow Yelpers and what better day to do so, then post a wonderful dinner the night before? So here's the verdict: five stars are solidly reaffirmed. For full disclosure, I've become a regular, and I stop by whenever I'm in town. And, I haven't gotten bored of it. Maestro restauranteur Lefteris holds court on most days and evenings. I suppose this is why it's run so well. Last night I uncharacteristically ordered a mousaka (pronounced moose kaka in My Big Fat Greek Wedding). Think lasagna except that the pasta layers are substituted with eggplant, scalloped potatoes and Mediterranean seasoning. The short-straw picker accompanying me last night selected more traditional faire of simply grilled Lavraki ( Mediterranean Sea bass or Bronzino or Lup-de-marre) and accompanied it with untraditional broccolini. We split the prasini salad ( romaine lettuce, scallions and dill), sparking water, a bottle of wine--but not the check. C'est la vie... We didn't order dessert at the restaurant; I had other aspirations that didn't materialize. C'est la vie. While I prefer the bar area seating, I requested to be sat in the main dining room on this visit. Our wine was as mediocre in direct proportion to how great was the service. My longing for additional wine options is perhaps my only gripe at Nisi. The unsolicited check arrived as it was approaching their closing time but I wasn't ready to leave. At least not without a night-cap for encouragement. Do I select from a wonderful list of bespoke crafted libations or stick with a not-so-basic basics? Scotch seemed right last night and I was torn by all the options. Dewars 15 made the cut but only because they didn't have Dewars 12-my favorite. While I can't swallow White Label, methinks Dewars' 12 year old offering is superb. Drinks at Nisi are modestly priced but the pours are diligently measured. I suppose vice follows virtue in the hospitality business. Alas we found ourselves at the night's fast approaching beginning of the end despite the extended evening's beginning. "Would you like some Tylenol?" I asked. "But I don't have a headache". A grin appeared on my face. "Let's quickly get home" I said. "Sorry Romeo, I have an early start in the AM." After working out I wanted something fresh and Mediterranean ! Walked in and We got seated right away and the servers were super attentive. The waitress kept the glasses of water flowing and she was super nice. It's Super clean inside and outside! Nice decor ! Ambience was chill .. The plates are pretty and presented the food well. Started off with appetizers Pikilia dish. It wasn't as flavorful as it looked but still good enough as we waited for mains. I ordered the Salmon dish as I was craving fish for weeks! The salmon was fresh but served on top of wet spinach and blackeyed peas which I did NOT like at all. IT didn't go well together ...The crispy skin of salmon was soaked. I did not want to eat this dish like a stew. I asked if I could substitute the black eyed peas for Salad or something else but they would not :( My sister ordered the Kotopoulo Soulaki. Came here for my best friends birthday for the first time. Service was as great was greeted as soon as you walked in and our waters were always filled. Food was great and I did appreciate that they participated in Restaurant Week $60 for 3 course dinner. The had a good selection of choices of RW, you actually got 4 course as we all got a soup to start prior to the appetizer. Octopus was +$7 up-charge but so well worth it. It was grilled perfectly and not chewy as I have had it in the past. We also order the Saganaki winch was pan seared table side as per our request. The fish of the day was Branzino which was served perfectly but if you do not like fish with tiny bones I would not recommend although they did a good job getting all the bones out they still missed a few but nothing that would deter me from getting it again. The dessert which unfortunately was not pictured was a chefs selection for the day and they were cream puffs with chocolate glaze. This is a new Greek tavern literally opened a this year in Astoria, at the corner of 30th Avenue and 32nd Street. The location by itself hasn't been so successful for many other renters in the past history, which is weird considering the position of the venue (the prime location in Astoria on 30th Avenue), just a few steps from the train station with the same name. Other occupants of the space have included Calexico, Burnside Biscuits, Salt and Bone Smokehouse and Athens Café. NISI Estiatorio is a typical Greek tavern with a rich selection of traditional Mediterranean appetizers and main courses (both from the land and the sea). I had their grilled octopus as an appetizer. Above all, the food presentation was great, the octopus was served on the bed of fava beans spread, with red onions and roasted peppers (a cute acidic kick). A bit overcooked, but tasty, tender (and not gummy) in general. Nice execution, chef. For the main course i selected their mousaka, which was surpisingly served as deconstructed (eggplants and potatoes were grilled, plated and filled with the ground beef, tomato and herbs mixture in the middle). The mousaka was served on the warm plate (like for that). That was a nice twist, I personally prefer the classic approach (layered mousaka), but this is just my opinion. Also, eggplants should be less grilled (I guess they have to adapt to a new grill station, since the tavern is newly opened). In addition, they should put an olive oil on the each table (my suggestion). The ambient is warm, gentle, a lot of white color is involved in decoration, the bar is vivid and has a great potential. The tavern still has to be adjusted and needs some final touch, but with a right hospitality approach, hard work and fresh food it has an amazing potential. Smiling goes without saying, it is one of the most important ingredients for the Hospitality Business. The bar can be seen from the street, it is in the middle of the main room, next to the kichen entrance. The main dining room is next door and it is quite spacious (good for bigger parties). Guest toilets are way downstairs, well maintained and old school. They have a hostess at the entrance, a lot of staff, the manager is always around, service is attentive and responsive to different questions regarding the food and wines. Btw, the wines are almost all Greek, they have only some German Mosel in offer, along with Italian prosecco and French champaign. The selection of beers is more diverse. Prices are decent and moderate for this location. They do not serve coffees fyi. My server was Konstantinos and he did a very good job. Oh, almost to forgot: for the dessert I had their homemade baklava (server's recommendation). Generous serving, freshly made and not too sweet. Frankly, I was nicely surprised.
