I visited the Gyromania Grill at 2558 Main Street in Elgin for lunch today (First Time) and I was totally enthralled & impressed with the restaurant, the food, and the staff. Having moved down to South Carolina six years ago, & given the hyper local establishments nearby my home that offer something I can only say somewhat passes for a gyro sandwich, Gyromania Grill far exceeded my expectations, and passion for an Authentic gyro, the kind I recall from up in New York yonder. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, and was greeted by Sheila, to receiving my Hummus appetizer with pita bread triangles, to receiving my Gyro pita sandwich, I couldn't believe how authentically tasty & delicious the food was. The food is prepared fresh on the spot, nothing laying around in heating hampers, from the french fries that are cut fresh daily, and fried when ordered, to the veggies that garnish the Gyro, to the freshly prepared tzatziki, my taste buds exploded with excitement at how delicious everything tasted. Honestly, I never expected to have that sensation of a well prepared Gyro the likes of what I recalled from NY, down here in S.C. but alas, I found *THE* spot for authentic, Great tasting Greek food. The restaurant itself is bright, open, VERY CLEAN! (I mean, Extreme Clean!) You can tell the employees take pride in presenting the establishment and the food they serve in the spotlight. Watching the staff behind the counter prepare the food, I noted how friendly and happy everyone was, no "fanny frowner /why am I here" faces, and compared to oh so many other food establishments I've been to, that impressed me a lot. I originally was going to order the lemon potatoes with my gyro, but they weren't prepared when I ordered, yet once they were, Sheila and her assistant surprised me by bringing by a little sample for me to taste, so next time I come in, I will absolutely enjoy them with my order, but the greek seasoned fries that came with my Gyro were trey`delicious just the same! The restaurant atmosphere is nice, I got there right before the lunch crowd, so it wasn't too crowded, I'm told sometimes the place can get really packed (no doubt, people enjoy eating delicious & tasty food, & Gyromania Grill delivers that!) The portions are decent, the prices very reasonable, the staff is friendly, and even if you have to drive a little out of the way to get there (as I did) it's well worth the effort. We went here for lunch Friday as we were wanting a gyro. We both ordered the Gyro...I had the combo which came with fries and a drink. My wife had the gyro with water. We were wanting to order a side of Saganaki cheese but the owner said he had to stop selling it as nobody ordered it. We were shocked. Apparently most people don't know what it is. Being from the Chicago area that was a key thing at all the Greek restaurants and we've never found anyone in town that made it. The first two times we went here we had it and it was very good. The Gyros we had were huge...really packed with lamb and all the fixings. The only thing we found wrong was the tzatziki sauce was put at the bottom of the pita. With all the fixings and everything that went on top of it you really only tasted the Tzatziki when you took a bite of the bottom. The meat and everything else is really piled on, so if you eat from the top there's no sauce. It would be nice if they would put a schmear of sauce along the whole pita and possibly some halfway in the gyro...or else give you a side of tsatziki to dip it in. They do sell it if you want to order extra. I'll do that next time. Nice place....good food. Their pricing for meals (salmon, etc) is about like the pricing you'd expect at a nice restaurant. Hopefully business will keep going well for them as there's really not much out in the northeast side as far as Greek food. read more

This is my favorite Greek spot on this side of town, and in my top 3 for the greater Richland County area period. The food is always so fresh, which is sad to say as a comparison but totally true. The salads are especially well made, and as a vegetarian I appreciate both the size taste of the falafel, my usual go to dish. This last visit I got the spinach pie, which wasn't as stacked as I expected (I was probably comparing it to Moussaka) but it was still very tasty. Their grape leaves are good too, as is the hummus,by I can take or leave the lemon potatoes. My sweetie has enjoyed both their gyro and lamb dishes. There is also ample seating for dine-in customers, and it's nicely spread out. There's no table service though, you have to order at the counter, which is fine. My biggest letdown is, like so many other local places, that they don't make babaganoush. The service is usually very good too, especially for over the phone orders, which can truly go south at many places. I appreciate Gyromania Grill and hope they have a long life. read more

I really wanted to love Gyromania so bad, but my experience this past Saturday just didn't match what I've had before. My wait was super long two families who ordered after me got their food first. When my order finally came out, it was handed to me in a brown paper bag with the plate placed sideways, as if they'd run out of the regular plastic bags with handles. I asked for one, and instead of bagging it up, the young lady set my food on the table behind me, went to serve another family, and then finally brought the plastic bag back but just handed it to me without any effort to actually put the food inside. By the time I made it home, the brown bag was soggy (as expected), and if I hadn't asked for the plastic one, the food probably would've fallen out. Really disappointing because I've enjoyed this place before, but the service and care just weren't there this time. read more

Every single time I go, the food is hot, fresh, and so delicious. I'm very picky when it comes to Greek food, but this is definitely some of the best I've ever had. The beef tenderloin is hands down the best I've ever tasted. It's better than what I've had at actual steakhouses!! One little detail I love--if you get your food to-go, they tape the straw to your drink so nothing spills and you don't end up leaving without it. It might seem small, but it shows how much they think about the customer experience. The restaurant is always clean no matter what time of day you go. We stopped here on a whim for lunch today. They were the friendliest employees with great smiles and very patient. We had the chicken gyro platter and the lamb gyro platter. Both were fresh and so good. Definitely a nice family atmosphere . The bathrooms were clean and there is plenty of accommodating parking. For sure going back! read more

This place hasn't even been opened for a month. I wanted to swing by here sooner but yesterday was my day. The inside dining area was crowded. Not many seats available. I waited in line for a couple of minutes and then I placed my order. I ordered the beef gyro, a lemonade and fries. I was told the wait would be about 10-15 minutes. I ventured next door to DG while I waited. When I came back over, I still had about a 5 minute wait. Which was fine. I drove home with my food which I hate doing. I think the gyro traveled well but not the fries. Soggy. But, the gyro was very flavorful! The tzatziki sauce was great! I would definitely return here. Like I said, fries didn't travel well. They are placed in a tray and placed in a paper bag. They were seasoned well. The lemonade was not good at all. It was very watered down. It was the Minute Maid lemonade. They have a sign asking for patience as they are short staffed. So please pack patience. The wait wasn't terrible but I think I have heard that the wait can be more than 15 minutes at times. read more

Delicious! Stopped in on a Sunday evening as we have heard so many compliments on the food. We were not disappointed. The menu is large but not overwhelming with lots of great choices and options for a delicious meal. We decided to try a couple items and share. We had a Greek salad and a chicken pita with fries. The salad was large and had a god amount of Greek dressing but it was not swimming in dressing. The size was definitely a meal. The chicken pita came out and it was full. Lots of chicken and complimenting adds ons tomatoes lettuce onions and tzatziki dressing. The pita was lightly warmed and soft. The feta fries were hot and tasty. Lots of food hot and fresh. I went for dinner (had the chicken platter with greek salad and peas) and the food was very good. it's so nice to find a place where the meals are made fresh, taste great, the portions are quite decent too. i only wish the owners would change a few things: 1. Take the TVs down from the walls, as the sounds from an open kitchen, some sort of slot machine sound, TV noises and bare floors do NOT make for a pleasant meal. I'd go there again because the food is so tasty, not to watch some TV. 2. Decorate the place, have a theme (Greek or something else)... except for the food, the ambiance is truly lacking. 3. Though sturdy plastic utensils are ok, keep them for to-go orders only and have metal utensils for dine-in. 4. change your napkins to something a bit heavier. No need for logos on the napkin, just get some that actually are strong and absorbent (that work for wiping your face). I like local food, and this place I'd local to where I live. The food and menu offerings are awesome (really fresh& tasty), but the place where you sit and eat can use some tweaks to be WAY better. read more

I have been hearing a lot about this place since it opened. All good things. I had yet to try it for myself, until today. I was blown away, the food was excellent. My wife and I had gyros and my daughter got a burger. My son said he didn't want anything, so we were just going to let him eat off our fries. The owner saw that he didn't have his own plate and brought him an order of fries, for no charge! It's a little thing but the little things make all the difference. The building has a diner type feel, with a huge menu board offering dozens of Greek foods. They had beer, wine and some beautiful looking desserts. (We were too full today to try!) Will most definitely be back for more great food and exceptional service. read more

My husband and I were driving by and decided to stop by for takeout. He got the gyro and I got salad with steak. We both enjoyed our food and found everything to be fresh and good quality. We also got the spanakopita and it was *so* good. Maybe we are used to getting room temp spanakopita, but here they warm it up for you. The closest thing to Greek food out where I live is Arby's Gyro sandwich. It's ok for what it is but it's not true Greek food. It's a good copy though. Today I wanted something more authentic so I headed to Gyromania Grill in Elgin, SC. I made sure to get there early bc it opened over a week ago and it's still being swamped with folks early in the day. Thankfully the crowd wasn't there yet. The menu is pretty extensive and features some of the greatest hits of Greek food. Souvlaki plates and Gyro sandwiches make up the bulk of that menu so we tried the beef/lamb Gyro platter. You get two sides and we decided on a double order of the Lemon Potatoes which are baked potato wedges with lemon, oregano, olive oil and other spices. They were great! Tasted like greek potatoes you'd get at a sit down greek restaurant. The gyro meat on the plate was served with pita wedges and tzatziki sauce. You basically make tiny gyros with those 3 ingredients and it's a tasty tiny sandwich! The meat definitely reminded me of what was shaved off of a spit at the corner souvlaki store when I lived in Ano Glyfada Greece as a kid. For $13.99 it was a lot of food. I had to get a to go box to take the half of the plate I couldn't finish. I definitely plan on going back to try those greatest hits I mentioned as well. Things like Moussaka, Spanakopita and Avgolemeno soup are going to be what I try next. Do yourself a favor and head over to Gyromania Grill and get a great souvlaki or gyro. They have several different sides to choose from if you order a platter. There is nothing that doesn't taste absolutely fresh. Lamb gyro was the item I ordered. The pita bread was cold along with the other ingredients. If I order a salad I expect the salad to be cold. When I order a gyro I expect the pita bread to be warm and the meat above room temperature. The lamb was chew and fatty and diced pieces, ugh. Greek restaurant and bad lamb that doesn't not right!
