Chicken Salad with a side of Chicken and sausage corn chowder
    Scotty C.

On our way to Asheville and decided to stop for lunch. I much prefer to find a great local spot instead of a fast food off the highway. Zach's was such a great find and easy to hop off the highway for lunch. We had our dogs in the car but it was cool out and they were doing construction on the sign out front or something so we left them in the car with the windows open. I love that they have dog pics all over the walls though... should have broke out the camera! I'm not sure who came first but the sandwiches reminder me of the Columbia based shop called groucho's i.e. fat sub roll, cold cuts, dipping sauce. I will say that this place had more options and was likely family run which I like. The soup special of the day was chicken and sausage corn chowder and I could have eaten a bucket of it. The lady serving us said she takes leftovers home regularly and I don't blame her. For my sandwich I went in a similar direction to my Groucho's order because I knew it would be good. I had turkey and cheese with bacon crumble on a sub roll with dipping sauce. The food was all excellent and the service was so friendly. I will definitely be trying to stop here on my next road trip.

Chicken salad sandwhich and pasta salad

I got the chicken salad sandwhich and pasta salad. Both were very flavorful and delicious. The pasta salad was seasoned to where it felt like I was eating healthy if anyone knows that feeling, like eating a salad or something. The people were super friendly serving me and gave me a recommendation of having my sandwhich toasted or not. The restaurant is owned by the towing company next door and is named after one of the dogs they used to have so there pet pictures everywhere. I'd go here again.

    BLTA

I got the BLTA with pasta salad. The sandwich was very good, the bread was perfectly toasted and not soggy even though I had a pick up order. The meal also came with a pickle and they had wrapped it up in paper before putting it in the box with the sandwich. I was very impressed with that because it showed that they really care about the quality of their food in to go orders! Little details like that really make all the difference. The staff was very incredibly friendly and had my food ready as soon as I arrived. Also, the pasta salad was AMAZING! I do not know what they are putting in it but the seasoning blend on it is really incredible.

On recent day trip to Columbia we timed our drive into town to do a pit stop at Zachs for a lunchtime feed. The place was easy to find, parking was at a premium and wait lines grew longer around 12 Noon (we landed around 11:45) so time your visit accordingly. Daily blue plate specials are often on the mind of regulars (we saw 6 go for the chicken pot pie and 2 sides) as well as a long list of namesake sandwiches and for those who fear nothing a build your own option is on the table. Seating is plentiful with a sparkling clean atmosphere. The servers there reminded me of one of my family reunions when my aunts used to plate up the T-giving lunch for 30, gracious, good natured and a smile on their hearts. We opted for sandwiches (which came with a side of choosing), homemade pink lemonade and tea (sweet & no sweet) were pouring freely. I opted to build by own sandwich and went with a hot pastrami on rye, swiss, lettuce, tomato w/mustard & add a pink lemonade, tasted great and it was so filling I had a takeaway. The dill pickle came with, I opted for the sea salt chips feeling the crunch need. My copilot went for one of the special sandwiches the Zack Attack with a side of potato salad and a Coke. The orders are delivered to your table and the adventure begins. We were not disappointed and plan to revisit and yes, even venture into the dark unknown of the blue plate special !

I stopped in here with a coworker while in the area for a work training. It was a little difficult to locate, but it was definitely worth the trip. I love that it is decorated in a dog theme because I am such a dog lover! It was a quaint little place, but it looked well maintained. The staff was friendly & you could tell it was a family owned business. The prices weren't bad, the serving sizes were large & everything was so tasty! The bread was fresh & each sandwich was loaded with plenty of meat & toppings. I will definitely go back.

Stopped here on a road trip from Myrtle Beach to Kentucky. Only 1.5 miles off the interstate. Worth the detour. Amazing ingredients and very friendly service.

Best sandwich in Columbia Metro award?…read more I mean yall. What? I be the MOST dramatic on these reviews sometimes bc lol they just read more fun. I'm. Dead. Ass. If yall don't get down to this bad boy and order you the "Chicken Charleston" during our lord and saviors pride month?! HOMOPHOBIA! I didn't know what to order (they literally have the LARGEST menu) and the fabulous front of house baddie said she loved The Charleston so.. I said you know what? LAYGO. 10/10 This was the best dang sandwich I've had in months. It's basically a chicken Philly but they put they whole foot, knee, thigh, and hootenanny into making that bad boy. AND ITS ACROSS FROM THE HOSPITAL SO I CAN JUST MOSEY ON OVER ANY TIME IM IN THIS CENTRALIZED LOCAYSH?! swear SC just wants me to stay fat and sassy atp. Only thing I disliked was the black olives in the pasta salad, but that's a personal preference situation. (Yall can have mine if you wanna meet up for lunch, tuh!) They also have kids eat free nights too! Clearly I don't have any children (kind of difficult to given the whole.. well, it's pride month yfm? Hahaha) but bring the whole fam. Clean, welcoming, good service and decently quick. Thanks everyone! Fr, this rocked.

There was also a nice roasted red pepper and black olive salad that came with it. My only criticism is that I felt like the portion of octopus was small for $21. Then I decided to try the Boeuf bourguignon. This was definitely comfort food. A very tasty beef stew, but a bit different recipe than I'm used to for this dish. Theirs has potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and onions. But the broth tastes like they might also use a touch of tomato paste. I could be wrong. Nonetheless, it was tasty and the thick broth was yummy on the piece of crusty bread it was served with. I'm tempted to come back and order the entree size of the octopus for $32 and see what the portion size is. Service was excellent. Very attentive.

The food is simply incredible. My husband had the Caesar Salad and the Boeuf Bourguignon. I had the Burrata Caprese Salad and the Rousseau Pizza. He gave me a shocked look when I went for the Pizza, but I'm not sure it's fair to call it pizza. Let's just say heaven on a crust! And I'm ready to go back and have the Boeuf. For dessert, we took the advice of our server and ordered the Ube Basque Cheesecake. Wow! (Pictured is the portion we brought home.) I'm a good cook, so when eating out, I expect to have a meal that surpasses my skills. And this most certainly did. The presentation was excellent. I don't give the ambiance a 10, but that's so secondary to the meal I just enjoyed. Thank you to Chef Emma and team!

We started off with some fried green tomatoes.  Everyone does their little twist on them and this place did the same.  Personally, I am good with them as is and maybe some remoulade for dipping.  Here they had a pepper sauce that came with them and cheese melted atop the FGTs.  Not bad and nothing killed or overpowered the flavor from the FGTs.  However, I did wish that the pepper sauce had a bit more kick.  I cannot remember the name but the drink of the much was a peach based drink.  It was good and it was not just some peach flavored alcohol but it was made with peach puree.  They had me at peach when she ran through the specials.    For the main entrée it was the ribeye at a medium rare with fries and asparagus.   You get a choice of a bordelaise or garlic aioli to accompany your steak or whatever you want to dip in it.  Steak was cooked to the medium rare as I requested and that is a good start because we know there those places that consider what you ask for as just a suggestion.  Good flavor from the steak with no need for the sauce as I found out and I just enjoy asparagus.    Good experience.  Despite this being my first time here this place gave the vibe as a solid choice.  One of those places where when you are unsure of what you want but don't want to risk something new because you are hungry or with someone who cannot come to terms with their food desires.  This is a that old, trusted place you can rely on when you are hungry and good service.  A first experience that went very well.

Ofc I scroll through Yelp (as one does - literally hi friend!) and one of the top rated is The Bistro. I whip on over there and, albeit confused with the parking sitch (you can park in the back and go in through the side where the restrooms are, or you can go in through the front? Yo no sé.) I was greeted by this gorgeous host who promptly sat me and a drooooopp deeeeaaaddd waitress Annie T, don't get it twisted, came with the suggestions and shoutouts I couldn't be more excited to get. I decided on The Bistro Bee Sting (yall, I mean come on.. look at that photo. DELISH!) and a turkey melt with some cheese grits as a side. So friggin good. A bit expensive but honestly 10/10 will be back. And GET THE BEE STING! I'm still drooling. 8.4/10 only because of price, but service, ambiance, and flavor were all 10's.
