Beef truffle wonton ramen Crispy Fried Oysters Chicken Gyoza
Adele B.

The food was delicious, fresh and hot! The staff were friendly and food came out pretty quick. The restaurant looked pretty casual but it reminded me of some restaurants I visited in Tokyo I got beef ramen with the truffle wonton. The beef was tender and the ramen was cooked perfectly. The broth was seasoned well and gave everything a nice flavor! The truffle wonton was, meh. The potstickers were good, pretty standard. The fried oysters are a must get! I put lemon juice on mine instead of the dip it comes with, amazing! Be careful, they squirt! The drink was good just a little too sweet and I asked for lite ice and most of the drink was ice.

Update after my last meal 7 months ago: Gyuro Ramen has done it AGAIN! My sister and I (who live out-of-state) have been talking about the last ramen experience we had here and couldn't wait to have it again! Well folks, the opportunity arose again with us both being in Chicago and we hopped right on it! We popped in on a Saturday evening, right after the dinner rush, and were promptly seated. We grazed over the menu lightly, since we already knew what we wanted to order: the chicken karaage and tuna poke as appetizers, the premium signature gyukotsu for myself, and the prime shoyu for my sister. Everything was brought out quite quicky and it was all SMASHINGLY delicious! The chicken kaarage was fried to perfection and paired beautifully with the spicy mayo, the tuna poke was fresh and a perfect palate cleanser, and both of the bowls of ramen we ordered were beautifully composed with the most harmonious of flavors. I was WOW'd by the premiere bowl! While a bit pricier than the rest of the ramen options, it was loaded with a variety of proteins, the noodles were just the right amount of chewy, and the marinated egg was *chef's kiss*. A HUGE shout out to the waitstaff, who were incredibly kind, and checked in on us throughout our meal experience. The overall ambience and vibe of Gyuro Ramen is always so enjoyable! It's a spot great for a date - whether with a friend or love interest - where you can have great conversation over a great meal. My recommendation remains the same as last time: HIGHLY RECOMMEND and will certainly be returning again soon!

Walking into the restaurant I immediately felt like I was taken back. The vibe was eclectic with throwback sign and videos playing of Japan. We ordered the signature gyokotsu and the spicy garlic ramen with a side of seasonal truffle waffle fries and kimchi. The Wagyu ramen was a bit of a let down as the meat was well done and braised when I was expecting it to be on the raw side. The broth was rich and creamy which helped overall. The garlic miso ramen was a bit underwhelming as the broth this time was pretty weak with not much spice or garlic but the toppings were much better, refreshing and complemented the soup. We enjoyed some mocktails to pair with the sides and I wouldn't recommend ordering them again except the kimchi. The mocktails were filled with ice and lacking in fruit flavor and tasted more like sparkling water with a splash of juice. The truffle fries came out cold and stale as it felt like they were left out for a while. For an expensive seasonal item, it wasn't worth getting. I would come back again for the ramen but there's so many other exciting spots to try in Chicago.

Inaccurate use of Japanese words for the menu and offerings. For example, "Shoyu" means soy sauce based ramen- however they use the name for beef and mushroom broth based ramens. The flavors were ok. The "beef shoyu prime ramen" tastes more like pho than actual ramen. The flavors were decent but definitely a bit mislead.

Great ramen (especially for vegetarians!!) and cute hole in the wall ambience (reminded me of my travel to Japan). Service could be a bit faster but it is also the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so it's understandable. I think it's sooo hard to come by solid vegetarian/vegan ramen, so this place pleasantly surprised me!! I tried chicken gyoza, veggie gyoza (I preferred it to the chicken one), and spicy veggie tofu ramen (my favorite!!). Pictured below is also beef ramen, but I did not try this.

I had the pleasure of trying this spot out, on a whim. The ramen DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I had the Garlic Miso Ramen w/ Beef Chishu and I'm still thinking about it. The Shrimp Gyozas were delicious and had a very fresh taste. My server was very helpful and he took the time to share his recommendations for each thing. I like that he was candid in his opinion of certain things and didn't try to encourage something he didn't like. The atmosphere was interesting to me. The space was roomy and felt like an Anime restaurant.

Chicken Karaage Don

Amazing dinner!! BYOB as well which we love. Liquor store is a 3 minute walk away. We had ramen, takoyaki, gyoza, and chicken karaage don--all were fantastic. I'd go back every week if I could.

Super aesthetic ramen shop in West Loop that has a ton of ramen options as well as donburi. Absolutely love the interior of this place. The vibes are amazing. All the food was flavorful and memorable.

The ramen, meat, and broth were good. The waitress who took care of our table was fantastic - very accommodating to our modifications. It's worth a try but nothing extraordinary.

Takoyaki
Abigail S.

Takoyaki (7/10). Decent flavors nothing crazy Pork Dumpling (7/10) pretty standard juicy Soft shell crab ramen (6/10) the crab didn't have too much meat other than the soft shell. Good broth flavor and the noodles had a good texture. We got another ramen, I forget the name, but it had a garlic broth, with beef. Everything was good but the flavor of the broth was a little wonky. We got a peach lychee drink, it was super yummy. Our servers were very nice, helpful, and attentive. The place was clean and had a lot of seating. It was cute inside, Japanese decor and videos playing. I liked the vibe!

This spot is super trendy and fun! I love the decorative interior, making it seem like you are eating in the streets of Tokyo. The seating is very casual - wooden tables and stools. There wasn't a spot to place our coats so I just kept mine on. I would probably only come if you're looking for a quick casual bite! I did the Spicy Garlic Miso and added a side of the level 3 Hell Sauce. The Spicy Garlic Miso was flavorful and with the level 3 Hell Sauce, it was a perfect spice level for me (I love spicy food). I usually eat my ramen with chashu pork, but I tried the Wagyu Misuji and it was so good! Would def rec this protein choice. Their Takoyaki wasn't bad! I just wish that there was more sauce on them. Overall, great spot for last minute ramen!

TAKEOUT REVIEW We ordered through DoorDash and everything arrived pretty quickly! The broth comes separately to avoid spillage and from the noodles soaking it all up! It was easily reheated and poured into the to-go bowls to eat. The soft shell crab was still crispy and very yummy. Chicken karaage was average but the sauce made it sooo much better. As for the ramen, the spicy garlic miso was on the saltier side but the beef chashu and crab were spot on. The shoyu prime broth tasted very similar to beef pho broth. Overall we liked everything just the broth was a bit too salty.

Out of all the ramen spots I've tried in Chicago, this one is by far my favorite. I was skeptical at first, thinking it might lean more toward a touristy, just-okay flavor, but I ended up really enjoying it. There's street parking out front, plenty of tables inside, and I also really liked the restaurant's interior design. I ordered the signature ramen with wagyu--the meat was a bit tough, but it didn't bother me. The broth was so delicious that I finished the entire bowl. The soft-shell crab ramen was definitely worth the price. Plus side is that the staff are really nice so I had no issues ordering as well as waiting for my order. Would come back again!

The ambiance is really fun and casual although it's incredibly loud. Service was great except for how poorly they handled that amount of covers. Receiving half empty cups of water for 45 minutes is unacceptable for how much you can expect to pay per person. Similarly, getting individual plates only after the last call AND after we're done eating was a bit shocking to me. The food was below average too which makes this a very hard pass for me next time. From everything we ordered the bang bang shrimp and nuggets did stand out but just weren't enough for how frankly disappointing everything else was.

The Alaskan cod sandwich was served on a bed of cabbage covered in a sweet teriyaki & brown mustard sauce with maybe a squeeze of kewpie sprinkled in between. For the main attraction I ordered the spicy garlic ramen that was such a delightful mouth experience it really hit all the taste buds! The noodles were perfectly bouncy with the right amount of chew. The jellied egg was perfect and rounded the soup very well! The red chili threads enhanced the spicy miso broth just enough to slurp all the delicious goodness down! My husband ordered the Sapporo miso soup which had more of a creamy type of broth vs the spicy garlic. The noodles were also thinner than regular ramen & had a bouncy springy texture that just hit the spot! Since it was kinda chilly outside we also ordered hot green tea to accompany our spectacular ramen dishes. This place also offers delicious seasonal cocktails on the menu or hot sake if that's what you are hankering for. Watching an employee use their bare hands and mouth on food that was then served to a customer was extremely concerning and completely unacceptable from a food safety and hygiene standpoint. It ruined the experience and made us lose confidence in the restaurant's food handling practices. In no way had my body rested. Donned in dawn, my underwear-pajamas slightly slid down revealed a sad vision of man, sloppily tangled in ruffled sheets. Exposed. There is nothing pretty about me, I thought, as I pondered if the sunlight were judging what it saw. Before reaching my current perch on the living room couch, I sat in bed flicking through news in search of something good, but simultaneously only pausing on the bad. Glorifying in the doom, really. It was the pinch I needed to prove I was indeed awake. All day I seek the pinch of pain to prove I am not dreaming. Coffee, cats, clothes, splashof water, and 20 steps later I find myself in the planning pose, here in the living room. The planning pose is very much like the wake-startle, sans the sheets and exposed crack. It involves me laying here on the couch actually reading the articles I perused earlier. I like to rationalize that the information gleaned is to set me up for a day of human interaction. Perhaps it is a study session to get up to human-social-speed. Right now it is dawning on me -- my second uninvited dawn of the day -- that perhaps behavior isn't responsible humanity, it is prolonged self torment. The tighter pinch. The proverbial purple nurple of challenging my awakened state. Cats gather around me. One at my feet and the other curled beside my thigh. Am I king to them? They are fed. Surely they are not here in need of something. Have I done something to warrant this attention? My affection toward them is inconsistent. It ebbs in startling fits of overly attentive playing or petting followed by long droughts of disregard. My ambivalence as their king gives me this luxury, and supports my theory that they may think I am indeed king. This is the type of cyclical example loop I am using as evidence to propel me from the underwear'ed fat man the sun observed moments ago. Evidence that says: "See, Sun, I am more than the larva you spotlighted. I am a god! The cats are evidence! And they sleep in your sun-puddles in undisputed, recognizable perfection, not the ugly crack-exposed heap you found me in. You love them. They love me. So, pinch yourself, and stop judging me!" Obviously the coffee is working, or maybe the cats are doing their trick: making me feel accepted in the universe. Whatever the case may be, I pet my cat. Dander floats into the sun's beams and crystallizes in the air. If you've ever seen dust in a thinly sliced light beam at dawn you know: Hope is the accidental luck of shadows bouncing off of the chaos but always cutting through. Always meeting a surface. Penetrating the thickest of atmospheres and colliding on flowers and alleys, on well planned solar panels, on potholes, through any crack, on my crack, projecting obtuse triangles, acute bi-angles, and isosceles quad-tangles, even while penetrating deep into the sea, revealing all the magnificent details of art, and occasionally falling on me. Trees bend to it. I give the cat closest a good scratch behind the ear and look out the window at the trees greening in spring. A dog walker pauses to pick up excrement. A squirrel cowers behind a branch. The ramen restaurant on the corner is cut through by light warming empty tables; tables preparing to slurp up hungry, hopeful lunchers into the belly of contentment. Dark, seemingly an antagonist to light's hero demeanor, sheepishly slinks away, humbly realizing it is not the opposite of light, but the absence. "Beautiful," I think as I see the spicy broth of life warming in the sun glow beyond the glass. Yes. It is beautiful. It really is. I couldn't see how much in the dark but the rhythm out the window is now clear. I turn to my cat, who is winding down a purr. We share a slow-blink gaze at one another as the last sliver of dawn is replaced with shadow in my house. He moves to the window sill to soak in every second as it departs. "Welp, buddy. Nothing left now. Time to bend to the light"
