In my opinion, very unprofessional and disorganized. In accepting the job and being aware of a large, heavy piece to be moved down a flight of stairs, they then refused to move the piece leaving us stranded mid-move. One on site staff member was rude and unprofessional accusing homeowner of misrepresenting the job and suggesting that it was the homeowner's responsibility to provide an exact weight for the item before booking the job. Fortunately, we were able to find a very professional team at APM LLC to come and move the item the next day which took all of 5 minutes by a very professional team that had no difficulty at all! read more

I have moved many times, and I am very happy I used HA Latham for my recent move. The owner came out for a quick walkthrough of our house to provide a quote, all charges were clearly laid out in an email. I ended up renting my own truck and hiring 3 movers for 6 hours. They came with moving pads and mattress bags, and all furniture was wrapped and carefully loaded out of the old house and into the new house. Nothing technical or special was needed for our move, but the team was efficient and careful which is all one could ask for during a move. Would definitely use them again. read more

I STRONGLY discourage the use of this company if you care at all about the condition of your furniture. We had the WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever had with ANY service provide. I never write negative reviews but I could not overlook the EXTENSIVE DAMAGE and owner Chris Latham's unwillingness to warrant his company's work. If I was able to choose a rating lower than 1, I would. We used HA Latham to move and store our furniture for roughly 7 months and our experience was TERRIBLE and ended up costing us thousands of dollars on top of what we paid to the company. I am certain the owner will try to discredit my comments based on my interactions and experience with him, so I am uploading a few photos to my profile support my comments. I have approximately 50 photos due to the extent of the damage, but only uploaded a few. We recently built a home and needed to put our furniture in storage for approximately six months and move it into our home. We reviewed several companies and ultimately asked Chris Latham, the owner of HA Latham, to visit us to see our furniture and provide a quote. During that visit we expressly and repeatedly communicated that our furniture was Stickley-Audi hand crafted wood furniture that we could never afford to replace. We asked that special measures be taken to ensure it would be well wrapped, not stacked and stored in an environmentally sound area to avoid any damage. We had taken excellent care of the furniture and it was basically flawless. We emphasized numerous times the importance and value of the furniture to us because we could not replace it and we also wanted to hand it down to the next generation in our family as most Stickley owners do. We were told they would wrap the furniture thoroughly and store it in their "new" warehouse that was environmentally stable and secure. On move day, we again communicated to the movers the importance of treating our furniture with care. We watched our furniture be taken away wrapped well in moving blankets. Little did we know that when they got the furniture to the warehouse, they removed all the wrapping and recklessly stacked the furniture causing damage to almost every piece. My wood furniture which was in perfect condition now has cracks, chips, dents and scratches. It was also stored in a location where it collected about an inch of dirt and cobwebs on it. They even cracked our kitchen table all the way through (see pictures) and since Stickley no longer makes this design, the only option we have is to buy an entirely new table or have a new top created for almost $3,000. In addition to the DAMAGE TO ALMOST EVERY piece of wood furniture, our new bed mattress, which we had wrapped in plastic, had black dirt across the bottom of it; the frame of one of our couches was broken in half and our hand made Stickley leather couches were stained with a white mold-like substance that wont come off and permanent impressions were made by whatever they stacked on top of the couch and cannot be repaired. Also, we had glass covering all our wood tables (which reiterates how careful we were with the furniture) and most of those pieces were broken. Even artwork that hung on our walls that were wrapped had pieces missing out of the wood frames. When the movers came to drop the furniture off, they tried to hide the damage from us. Ultimately, we had to look at every single item and found that almost every piece of furniture, glass and pictures had been damaged, in some instances beyond repair. When we approached the owner, Chris Latham, he initially indicated he would "stand by his service" and make us whole and he waived 1/4th of the moving fee for the inconvenience. Note we had already paid 3/4ths of the fee plus 7 months of storage totaling close to $5000. I wrote on the invoice that the furniture was damaged and the claim was not settled. We proceeded to have the Stickley company assess the damage and provided the overall damage impact for discussion. Instead, Chris used the fine print in his contract to avoid taking any responsibility for his company's negligence. He flat out refused to let us use a repair person we trusted who had 30 years of experience repairing Stickley furniture, he replied with passive aggressive threats, tried to hide behind his insurance company while at the same time indicating they would not likely honor a claim and that it was "out of his hands". Ultimately he accused us of being dishonest and lying about the extent of the damage (even though we have pictures) and completely shirked responsibility for the damage his company caused to our furniture. He now refuses to even respond to our communication. My husband has since spoken to other customers of H.A. Latham that also experienced damage and were dissatisfied. I do not recommend using this company if you care at all about the condition of your furniture. read more

Make sure you read the fine print, carefully, as there is no gray area to them, when in doubt it's in their favor. I'd rather not use them again, look elsewhere. Excellent service on a local move from Waterford to Bozrah. Despite a very tight fit to get out of the apartment, the furniture was disassembled, wrapped, and reassembled like new at my new house. The movers called 15 minutes ahead of time to ask if they could show up early. They worked extremely quickly, coming in 30 minutes under the 3 hour quoted price. Latham crew that moved us were, as stated, the best. They were prompt, professional, courteous, careful, and quick and they were all those things without stopping work! They lifted, hauled, disassembled, packed, and stacked. They climbed, carried, and performed acrobatic hand-off feats with furniture. Latham to move a bedroom set from our home in Killingworth, then they had to go to our daughter's in Enfield to move a bedroom set, living room furniture, and some additional items. All of these items were then brought to daughter's new location in Windsor. The move(s) were completed by Ray and Dante, both were professional, personable, and did a great job. We used H. A. Latham for a fairly complicated move in April 2012. Even though we were moving from the Stamford CT area, we used this family-owned company from Old Saybrook, CT as they had been recommended to us by a local realtor. We were moving household furnishings, including a piano, and boxes (which we packed) south to 4 different addresses between New Jersey and North Carolina. At one address they were picking up a baby grand piano to deliver to another stop. It definitely required some coordination. So, what was important... --the office staff is friendly, competent, efficient, follows through, and is clearly skilled in developing quotes --they arrived on time --they were very professional --each mover had years and years of experience --they were very careful moving each item: no dings in walls or furniture --they were courteous; even by the last stop in North Carolina we received reports about how great the movers were! --and...the final cost came in within $36 of the estimate, which was based on travel, fuel surcharge and the estimated hours for loading and unloading. That is incredible! Would I use them again? Absolutely! I wouldn't use anyone else. read more

Latham moved my Father-in-law from Branford to Westbrook about a month ago and we couldn't be happier with the job they did. Larry and Tim were the guys that did the move. They were courteous, professional and fast. My Aunt had just passed away suddenly and we needed to get up to Wethersfield for a wake that afternoon. These guys hustled to get us there in plenty of time. I am so grateful to them for that. They also charged us LESS than the quoted amount because the move took less time than anticipated. My husband and I have moved several times in the past several years and we've never had such an honest company to work with. Generally we've gotten people who drag about taking forever, charge us for things they didn't include in the original price and broke several items. These guys are in a whole different class. Would recommend them to anyone. Moving is almost always a stressful, horrible affair. These folks made it easy. read more

Worst experience I have ever had. They broke a 150 year old armoire so it will never close again. They left dents in the woodwork. They left dirtmarks all over freshly painted walls. They were SLOW. They wouldn't take plants which they never stated before. They had to go back and pick up things they forgot and then had the gall to charge us. NEVER, NEVER RECOMMEND THEM OR USE THEM AGAIN. They were slow...and later the owners acted terribly with awful customer service. I know now this is not the way it is suppose to go down. I have since moved again and I hired different company and that move was brilliant. Latham calculated the house wrong so the wrong size truck showed up. Making moving day that much longer. the movers on the second day moved like molasses I did not care cause we had a estimate and did not realized that they work by the hour. I was quoted $2500. The total came to $4500. When I complained that they were so off the owner screamed at me and my husband about having to pack the kitchen. She called us liars and idiots. In the end I paid the bill cause it became impossible to discuss it with the owners. If you can use anyone else in the area do so. They were not up to snuff. read more

My experience with HA LATHAM was a good one. Their team arrived on time, worked very hard and rapidly, and were very cordial throughout. My biggest complaint with previous moving companies I have used is that the employees tend to take their time and are often out of shape and incapable of lifting the items I needed to have moved. This was not the case with HA LATHAM as the two gentlemen who moved us were motivated, physically capable of doing the job, and very good at packaging delicates so they don't break. The rates were very competitive and I highly recommend HA LATHAM for a move of any size. Ask for Tim by name, and his team will most definitely come in under the estimate. read more

We were all set with another moving company, but it fell through. I called Latham on a Friday for a Tuesday move. Really thought they would laugh at me. Megan pulled through. Tuesday morning, right on time Tim and Sam were there to load our things and move them to our new house. They were fast, careful, courteous and very professional. Initially very pleased with this company. Very friendly, on time, seemed to be doing a good job. I went left my home for a short time to go to bank to get money for a tip. When I returned, I discovered some very valuable and sentimental property was missing. I knew exactly where I had placed it before I left and it was no longer there. We recently used Latham for a household move based on recommendations from several friends. We were moving the entire contents of our 3 bedroom house into a new home. After almost 40 years of living in one house, there was quite a bit of furniture, including several large fragile antique paintings, tables, hutches, and armoires. Our experience with Latham was smooth, efficient, and worry-free. Here is what we found: - The office staff is friendly, competent, and easy to work with. They were extremely accomodating and helpful with suggestions to minimize both the disruption and cost of the move, which I needed to do in multiple phases. - The movers were on time, professional, and experienced. In fact, one of them prided himself on "never touching a wall" while moving furniture up or down stairs. We had no nicks, dings, or damage to either furniture or walls. The movers were extremely careful - they packed dishes and glassware much better than I had ever done! We met three teams of movers, each time with 3 individuals, and each team was equally timely, skilled, and courteous. - The final cost of the move was lower than the estimate. We could not have had a better experience with our move - Latham made it as stress-free as possible. I would not hesitate to use them again! read more
