THE BEST CONTRACTOR I'VE EVER WORKED WITH I've worked with over a dozen contractors since 2017, doing home improvement and repair projects, and Golan (owner, designer) and Meshi (project manager) were the best I've ever worked with. I just retired after 36 years as a civil engineer/construction inspector for freeway construction jobs, so I know what I'm talking about regarding relationships with contractors, and H&A have been flexible, creative, and courteous when dealing with me on the problems that arise during construction. At the start, I sat down with Golan and we mapped out my ADU design--me telling Golan what I wanted and Golan suggesting the best ways to achieve my goals--and then during the construction phase, Meshi was a great solution-oriented problem solver, each time we hit unforeseen problem, which always happens in construction. Meshi (project manager) was also great at dealing with the City Inspectors, each time they'd throw a potential delay on the project, she'd quickly negotiate a solution to keep the ball rolling with no down time. They were super friendly, never argued with me, and were ready to pivot each time I saw how the project could be improved during the construction phase. And never once, did they hit me up with a "Contract Change Order," which is usually where a contractor tries to hit up a customer for more money. We hired H&A My Design for an ADU project and related renovation work. While the project ultimately reached final inspection, our experience throughout the process was extremely frustrating and resulted in additional costs and ongoing disputes. During the project, we experienced repeated communication issues, lack of project oversight, and periods where we felt we were effectively managing portions of the project ourselves. Several items either had to be corrected, completed separately, or revisited after concerns were raised. One of the biggest issues involved the electrical scope. We were informed that the project was ready for final inspection; however, inspection later identified missing arc fault breakers and related deficiencies, which resulted in failed inspection and additional corrective work. We ultimately had to involve a third party to review and assist with portions of the electrical work. We also repeatedly requested accounting and supporting documentation relating to approximately $30,000 paid toward electrical installation work, but those requests were never fully resolved to our satisfaction. Additional disputes arose over billing, including charges related to vanity, lighting, electrical outlets, backsplash, and locksmith expenses associated with damaged antique door hardware. Communication regarding warranty obligations also became an issue. We were later informed that third-party involvement could impact warranty coverage, despite the fact that many of the issues requiring outside involvement arose from concerns about the original work and project management. The project was eventually completed and passed inspection by us homeowners. H&A did not complete their contractual obligations. Based on our overall experience including communication gaps, oversight concerns, disputed billing, inspection issues, project negligence and the difficulty resolving matters afterward we cannot recommend H&A My Design without significant caution. We needed to update our bathrooms and saw H&A My Design working on a home remodel in our neighborhood. So, we reached out to H&A My Design to see what they can offer. After meeting with Golan (business owner) a couple of times, visiting their private showroom, and careful consideration of other bids/quotes, we decided to work with Golan and his team at H&A My Design to renovate our master bathroom and guest bathroom. From the start, Golan's team were professional, friendly, helpful and accommodating. The documentation was detailed and comprehensive. The cost was reasonable and competitive. They helped us with the layouts, designs and choosing the finish materials. We were able to physically see and touch the materials at their private showroom, which was very helpful and convenient. They provided us with a reasonable time frame of completion and the step-by-step details of the work to be done from the demolition, framing, lathing, plumbing, inspections, painting, finish installation and final touches. As the work commenced, teams of tradesmen came in and performed their work as scheduled. The daily work was managed and supervised by Meshi (project manager) from start to finish. The renovations were completed timely within expectations and the work was performed with expert care, consideration and supervision. We were long over due for some renovations in our home and were referred to H&A by friends. Golan responded to us quickly and came to our home for an estimate. Golan has amazing vision and after a conversation. had several ideas to improve the functionality of our home. Once we decided on a plan, the process went very smoothly. We met with Natalie who was able to give a computer rendering of what our home would look like. We were then scheduled to go to their showroom, where we selected the materials for the projects, with the assistance of Aviva, who was so helpful. The project, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, paint and flooring started on the date we discussed and truly went smoothly. Workers arrived on time, if not early, worked hard and cleaned up at the end of each day. If we had any conflicts or issues with the process, they were quickly addressed by Ben the project manager or Golan himself. We had a great experience working with Orel from H&A My Design. We hired him as contractor to do a complete remodel of our master bathroom. He was very collaborative and responsible, with fast communication. We initially visited their showroom and appreciated the level of organization, professionalism and friendliness of everyone there. We spoke to a few companies, and chose them based on the quality of sample projects that we toured, plus they quoted us a fair price with a comprehensive scope. They completed the job well and on budget, with no nickel and diming. We absolutely love our new home. We had our kitchen remodeled, our hallway, which is now our beautiful laundry area, our two bathrooms, new flooring installed in those areas, recessed lighting, new central air and heat, the electrical upgraded, new plumbing in areas that needed it, the exterior and interior painted, and our structure retrofitted. Even though we didn't add square footage the inside of our home is unrecognizable. Everyone that comes to our home can't believe the changes, and how beautiful it came out. We love it! We met with at least four other contractors before deciding to go with H&A My Design. Ben, the Project Manager, immediately made us feel comfortable, and made a great impression with us. He was with us from the get go and through to completion. Meshi was added to our project shortly after we started. So there were now two Project Managers. Meshi was an excellent and pleasant addition. Meshi and Ben were on top of everything. Between her and Ben nothing went unanswered. Every good relationship does have some stumbles, how they are resolved determines everything. Whenever we had questions or concerns during the project we immediately received a text, a phone call, or Ben or Meshi would drop by. They were hands on, and never difficult to reach. They both immediately addressed any issues we had. When the project was complete Ben and Meshi even brought our fur babies fun gifts and tasty snacks, along with a gift for us. About three months later, we noticed some issues. We contacted Meshi and Ben via text and sent pictures. She immediately sent someone out and the job was complete within 24hrs. The project took about three months to complete. Overall, we had a great experience, and we are very happy with the outcome, the professionalism, and the time frame. First, the remodel took 10 months, not 4. We lived in Irvine from October to August. I mentioned nothing about the duration of the remodel, have no complaints about it, and we understood it was the pandemic. I did not bring this up on the review...you did, so I'm correcting your error. If there were multiple issues, we chose to get the errors fixed by someone else. That was our decision. Moses and team came up with an amazing design and our kitchen seems so much larger. They utilized all the space giving us more storage with clean lines. I have no idea why Yelp deleted my prior reviews of H&A My Design, but since they did, I'm going to repeat what I said several times previously. I've used the incomparable Golan Azran and his company H&A MyDesign for many years and for many projects. He is the best of the best, hands down. He built me two bathrooms, a gorgeous craftsman porch, and a pergola, among other things. They are all gorgeous and have increased the value to my home well beyond what they cost to build. First, let me say that I have received many bids from contractors in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles for these projects. Without exception, all the contractors EXCEPT for Golan were basically dishonest robber barons and borderline fraudsters. Almost every company I interviewed overbid each other by THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars, wrote deceptive and illegally worded adhesion contracts (I know because I'm an attorney), and wanted payment in full before completion of the job. Several times I was so discourage that I nearly gave up on doing these projects - until I was lucky enough to meet Golan Azran. He and his crews are everything you want in a contractor - honest, communicative, smart, reasonably priced, and they treat you with the intergrity and decency that they would give to their own family members. I could not be happier having made friends with the owner and staff of this great remodeing company. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. What you hear while the work is ongoing and you point out flaws: "We'll take care of it - we just want you to be happy." What you hear after you've (mistakenly) made the final payment: ...[crickets chirping] Their website talks about their great craftsmen. Sadly, that wasn't my experience for the most part. Certainly, some of the people were skillful, but the majority were not and showed little attention to detail. The end result is that there are a lot of unsightly problems and throughout the work, I was often left to clean up after them, including picking up wood shavings, screws, nails, fast-food wrappers and cigarette butts. Project management was hit and miss -- mostly miss -- and I had to repeatedly go over the list of outstanding issues as this 8 week project stretched into 8 months. The owner has a tendency to talk about what could be legally enforced under contract versus what is ethical to do -- apparently doing the "right thing" for customers is something that requires deep, thought. I did not ask for anything that was not in the original plan/design and even ended up paying out of pocket for the painter to match the inside of the door to the rest of the room (which had been taken down to the rafters). Bottom line is that at the end I went over the punch list with the PM who told me they would be taken care of for free during the "service phase." I later received a text message instructing me to send the same list of issues to them via email which I promptly did -- over 4 months ago. I got no response. It's been a year and a day since the demo. Many lessons about trust have been learned the hard way. Only fair to share with others who may be considering this company. read more

Well, I am one of the "lucky" few that began a major kitchen remodel right before the Covid-19 pandemic, mid Feb 2020! After meeting with Golan and Aaron a couple of times at the end of 2019, I decided that H&A was the company to go with. They were forthcoming, passionate, energetic, fair priced, and full of ideas in term of my kitchen remodel. I had previously gotten a bid from an individual contractor which was lower than H&A, but what appealed to me about H&A over the individual contractor was that H&A is a "one stop shop", providing design (including 2-D and 3-D plans), permitting, planning, construction, inspections, etc. I was very nervous to begin the demolition, but, Golan & Aaron made me feel comfortable with the process. I was not only replacing floor, countertop, and appliances, but majorly reconfiguring the kitchen footprint, including losing a wall between the kitchen and the third bedroom. Golan was ON IT! His subcontractors were prompt, reliable, professional, and detail oriented, and they showed up at 8AM sharp EVERY SINGLE DAY. I was extremely impressed with the quality of workmanship! The counters! WOW! The backsplash, WOW! They matched into my 72 year old original thin plank red oak hardwood floors to integrate the kitchen remodel and it is SEAMLESS. One other feature I really liked with their bid was that, although they included the cabinets in their bid, all other finishes were up to me. So I could buy the backsplash/counter/appliances/flooring anywhere I wanted with no markup from H&A. The cabinet designer, Avi, that I met with was super flexible and had great ideas on how to maximize efficiency in my kitchen. He suggested features that I am SO happy with every day! All in all, the whole process was seamless and amazing, and ON TIME and ON BUDGET! During a PANDEMIC!!! What??!! I could not be more thrilled with my kitchen. I used H andA, my design contractors because they were recommended by a very good friend of mine. I trust my friend implicitly and I knew if she recommended them, they must be good, and they were!! The owner, Golan, came to my house and we discussed all the options and he came up with a brilliant design of my kitchen. The work started promptly, all the workers were polite and professional. My house has an open beam vaulted ceiling with NO insulation. Aaron and his team from H&A came up with an idea to insulate my house from the roof side. They worked clean and quickly! Hello, We have lived in our home for about 20 years having remodeled almost everything over the years except the master bathroom. Finally we decided to do it. We collected information on several remodeling companies soliciting through the local advertising mailers and met with 3 companies. One estimator came, spent 5 minutes looking at what we had and wrote his estimate precisely down to the penny (after 5 minutes and little discussion with us). The other was a large box store affiliate and the prices were gruesome. Ben presented from H&A, My Design and spent easily an hour initially asking us questions and trying to get a feel for what we wanted. Now, after almost 45 years of marriage my wife and I still can't agree on things, so he helped broker an agreement. Ben arranged for Natalie to come and do a virtual computer design of what the bathroom would look like upon completion. She spent hours doing and redoing the design per our requested tweaks. Upon our final design decision, Ben's proposal was concise; he detailed everything H&A would and would not be doing based on our discussions. I did not want to act as a general contractor trying to organize different trades so we allowed H&A to take over that responsibility. They directed and scheduled all the trades, including the City inspectors. Natalie was a computer virtual prototype wizard, the demolition crew came at the scheduled time and completed their job and cleaned up. The tile men came and installed the new tiles quickly and neatly. The framers came and neatly framed and cleaned up. The electrician was prompt and did his job neatly. The hot tar fellow came and smeared the shower floor properly and cleaned up. The inspector came and approved everything so far. The plumbers came and hooked everything up properly. The drywallers came and patched and painted perfectly. Final inspector's inspection was completed. Ben and Meshi were almost always available, just a text away, very accommodating, friendly, and above all, patient with us. And, more pleasing, the bathroom turned out exactly like the virtual rendering. Although we delayed to job somewhat due to us taking a vacation and then having Covid, this was all completed around our timing and our issues. We have an older townhouse with old outdated bathrooms. We had been looking for Contractors to work one two of our bathrooms . For the Master bathroom we needed the tub and countertop changed whereas for the guest bathroom we needed a complete remodeling . We had consulted with multiple contractors before we agreed to go forward with Golan. Golan was upfront about the costs involved and provided us a complete breakdown of project timeline. Amir was our contact for all issues big and small. He gave us advice when we went tile shopping, got the plumber to come look at a leak after hours and provided creative solutions to some unavoidable issues. The rest of the crew ie plumbers, electricians,handymen etc.. were also respectful of our space and thorough professionals. Communication was a breeze and responses to our questions were quick. Our guest bathroom went from having an old rusty tub to a more contemporary shower. We replaced the space hogging yellow vanity with a modern prefab unit which made the tiny room look more spacious. The tiles were updated to a nice slate gray which are much easier to take care of then the original old tiles. For the master bathroom we changed the old shaky tub with a new tub and had nice natural stone looking tiles put in which make the room seem warmer and more peaceful. This review is for our interaction with H&A. We were looking for contractors to come give us a bid on our whole home renovation, addition and pool addition. I called dozens of contractors and only about half of them responded in a timely manner. H&A was one of the companies that responded quickly and was able to answer many of my preliminary questions. We were 2 weeks from closing escrow and one of their company policies was that they don't come out for a consultation until after escrow closes, which is completely understandable and reasonable. We were looking to start work as soon as possible though since we knew this project would take half a year or more so we ended up going with someone who was able to come out to do quotes before we closed on the home. This is obviously a huge gamble for a contractor to come out and give quotes and advice and time when escrow could fall through at any time, and several other companies also asked to come after we closed escrow. If we were in a different situation, we would have loved to have H&A come out to give us a quote based on the responsiveness of their team, willingness to answer my questions and ability to schedule you in quickly for a consultation. read more

We worked with Golan on some remodeling and infrastructure projects. We were very happy with the responsiveness and communication. The work was top-notch. His entire crew was excellent. We approached Golan with a project wish list and our budget. He gave us recommendations on what to tackle now given our budget constraints. We tackled two infrastructure projects- shoring up our 1907 house foundation and insulating the attic above and crawlspace below the house. The remodeling was a fireplace. The fireplace looked like it had be redone poorly since the house was built in 1907. We wanted it tiled to a vintage Craftsman look to fit the house. The crew for each subproject were very professional and very timely. The house now sits on a solid foundation, and the house is now properly insulated, minimizing the temperature swings during hot and cold weather. As anyone who has worked with the City of Pasadena knows, permitting and inspection can be fraught with peril. Golan worked with the city to handle the permits and inspections. The city required more work than anticipated, and Golan was very fair with how he handled the cost overrun due to the additional city requirements. The installed fireplace tiles look fantastic! (We had the tiles custom made by a separate business.) The tile installer he sent was clearly a master of his craft. He worked within the physical constraints to make the tile work a piece of art that looks like it has always been there. Along the way, the crews also tackled some minor repairs. They fixed a plumbing leak that would've impacted the foundation and a finicky air conditioner that was on its last legs. When we are ready to tackle the kitchen remodel and bedroom reconfiguration, we will definitely go back to Golan and his crew. They are top notch! I highly recommend them. read more

The estimate for completion of the work was 4-6 weeks and they completed the work in 6 weeks and 2 days. Also, while they are not the least expensive, you don't always want the least expensive. There are good people that work for this company BUT.... we had this company remodel our bathroom. I had to keep pointing out mistakes that were being made. The gentlemen that did the work for us from this company, kept making mistakes or just did work that seemed like he didn't care about the job he was doing. I am not in construction but I have common sense. When they replaced our bathroom floor, the guy tore out part of our hallway floor because he thought the bathroom floor was to extent into the hallway. I could not believe it. If you look at where floors meet, they meet at a center of a door lined up with the door jam. I had him take it off but then he already destroyed our existing floor so we were left with cement floor in our hallway. The cabinets that are installed by another company that H and A recommend. They were suppose to be done professionally. Well, I can tell you that they don't look bad but you can see where part of the cabinet is uneven. Inside the cabinet you can see where he destroyed part of the wood. H and A gave us a quote which I thought was a little high for a bathroom that is about 6 foot by 7 foot but that was our decision to go with them. BUT, the gentlemen (which I am not giving out names) told us that the cost was higher because we had to relocate the toilet and the sewage drain. BUT it turned out that we ended up leaving the Tolkien and sewage drain where it was. I ask the guy how much they were going to take off since they didn't move the drain and toilet. When he first gave the quote he made it sound like it was expensive to move the drain because they had to move all the cement etc.. but when I asked for money back he got mad. I was just asking for what was fair for the job.. he finally agreed to give back $300, which was a joke. We also have this company fix some electrical which they had to punch holes in our ceiling. They said that they would match up the paint. Now I know that at times you can't perfectly match paint BUT they didn't even get the right gloss and our ceiling looks horrible. Now I have to spend money to have it all fixed including our floor. Why you ask that I didn't have the company fix the paint problem. Well, I did ask and the guy they sent out was either on drugs or something. He spoke perfect English but he kept getting the wrong paint or wrong gloss and he even painted a wall a completely different color then what we had and then he tried to convince me that it was better that way. Really, thanks for tell me how to make my house look. He kept leaving the job almost every hour. My wife and I think that he was on speed or something but we are not 100% sure so I won't say for sure that he was. So far I haven't found an honest construction company. These people really don't care about you or if your 100% happy.. they always over charge and the work doesn't show the money you spent. If I made typing errors in this review, sorry. I am in a hurry but I have been meaning to write this for sometime now. The work was done around September of last year 2018. We are going to be remodeling our entire downstairs and upstairs bathrooms. Can anyone recommend a company that will do an excellent job for a fair prices. We are not cheap people but we don't believe in paying for something that your not getting. I use to do all this work on my own in the past but because of health issues i can't. So I have an idea of what needs to be done on a job and I can honestly say that this company really didn't care about how we felt at the end. We hired H&A My Design to build a guest house apartment. It took a while for the city to approve the plans, but once we got past that hurdle, the project was completed in the expected amount of time. They were easy to work with, responsive to my requests, and in the end, I am very happy with the result. I do agree with another reviewer in that some of the workers are better than others and put more care into their work, but I have had that experience with other contractors too. I think its important to know what you want and to communicate it. Anything I wasn't happy with was fixed to my satisfaction. read more

I had my kitchen, bathroom and laundry area renovation with H&A Design. Plus they gutted my floors and put in new ones. My bathroom was a 1/2 bath and I requested for it to be changed into a 3/4th bath so there will be a second bathroom where we could take a bath. At first, I thought it wasn't possible, but Golan (the owner) worked me and the contractor and measured the space I had before. They said yes, so I had not only the kitchen for renovation, I was also doing the bathroom and laundry area as well. All permits were in place and everything they did, they did in a professional manner. The manager for the renovation was Zack. He made sure everything was in place and properly done. I appreciate that, because some companies, they don't care about the little things. Which for me, the little things are what enhances your surroundings. Not only that, but throughout the whole corona virus, they kept going with the renovations (except with a mask on). They finished a few days ago and I'm very happy with the results. Because we lived out-of-state of the home being renovated, we really needed someone we could rely on and feel confident in to deliver the expected finished product. This was a complete renovation project (top-to-bottom) and thanks to their help, the home came out better than expected. We are very pleased with the entire experience. We had our Master Bedroom with vanity and bathroom with vanity and shower remodeled. All in all we thought they did excellent work on the ceramic wood like floors throughout and the bathroom tile in the shower and walls; however, there were a number of glaring errors that have not been resolved to our satisfaction even though we met with Golan, the owner. 1. They put 1000 lbs of cement bags on the floor over our front double doors causing the door frame to buckle and a crack from the upper door to the ceiling. It was agreed that C. would install the doors but his work was below par on finishing so we hired a steel double door installer. I was under the impression that they would pay for half of the installation cost of $2250 but that did not happen. 2. The inspector made C. replace a union with a glued joint that was under the shower after the hot mop was done. In doing so, he broke the connection from the shower drain to the drain stack riser causing the shower water to flow directly into the kitchen wall below. Obviously we did not know this was happening but we decided to have the kitchen remodeled a couple of months later. When the cabinets were taken out, the workers found the wall directly under the shower wet. They took out the drywall and the insulation which were soaking wet. After the insulation was out we turned on the shower and the water was flowing freely from a crack. Can you imagine if we waited the planned 3 years to remodel the kitchen, the whole kitchen and dining room would have been flooded and mold would have been growing behind the walls. I texted Golan that it cost us $2100 to fix their mistake. No wonder as soon as the inspector finished, C. packed up his things and left. Touch up painting was not done. In another area paint was dripping. Paint was dotted all over the ceramic tiles. A dresser and bookcase were damaged in moving the furniture. TV cables were full of paint and not hooked back up. A piece of cracked lumber was used to install the bathroom mirror which can be seen from both sides. Door stops were not put back on. Toilet screw bolt covers were not installed. Golan did come to go over these items but as soon as he implied that we were lying about the above, I asked him to leave. Obviously I would not recommend H&A My Design if the owner can not admit that his company made mistakes even though I sent him pictures and I have more if he wants to see them. read more
