Barrett is a crook and I advise everyone against working with him! He said our plaster color "might not be perfectly uniform" which was fine but the result atrocious, totally veined and mottled. He came to see it and even admitted that it "looked bad" but all he would offer as a remedy was a 10% discount on a complete, full-cost redo of the job. 1/20/22 UPDATE Just spoke with William Bell about our pool plaster discoloration issue. Before anyone considers a textured, pebble or colored pool plaster finish, understand that the many water chemistry variables that are BEYOND your control will likely alter the finish of your pool over time. It also depends on where you live, whether your water supply is hard water or soft water, or if you live in an area that has experienced significant drought. The source water (aquifer) may be drawing from a deeper subsurface formation with different dissolved mineralization, which could affect your pool water chemistry. Mr. Bell stated that our pool has had "aggressive water chemistry" (not sure exactly if he was referring to the water source or pool chemistry) judging by some rust spots showing up on the stainless steel light covers. When it came to the missing plaster spot on the step, he tried to smooth the edges of the spot but ended up slightly exposing the actual original plaster finish (a darker blue than what's seen around the steps; see photo). When I asked Mr. Bell exactly what the H&H 10-year warranty covers, it apparently is good only for major cracks or issues seen throughout the pool. It will not cover repairing the spot on the step. IN CONCLUSION, there is a lot of information available about swimming pool chemical etching on colored surfaces. Be advised to READ THIS INFORMATION THOROUGHLY when considering a textured, pebble, or colored pool finish. H&H did not provide this information when we had the pool redone (that also included redoing the hot tub and pool coping) in 2015; however, they did at the time provide a sheet entitled "Optimum Pool and Spa Water Chemistry Conditions" and how to treat the water for the first 30 days. We followed that to the letter. Since 2018, we've had the same individual (a co-owner of the pool company) treat our pool every single week. He's very professional and does a thorough job. It seems the nature of the textured and colored pool plaster business, in general, takes advantage of the many water chemistry variables and other unknowns beyond their control (pool improperly maintained by homeowner or pool company, source water mineralization, etc.) and has a built-in justification for not honoring warranties. This obvious fact means that any pool finish will be exposed to varying water chemistry conditions over time, especially if the pool or spa is maintained improperly. "This constant exposure to pool and spa water, which is treated with a variety of powerful chemicals, creates a dynamic environment where the mineral content of the surface and water are constantly interacting. This interaction between water and the surface is unavoidable and in many cases will cause the appearance of the surface to change, either slowly over time, or in some rare instances, far more rapidly. "In many cases, these phenomena are purely cosmetic, in other more extreme situations, some surfaces will start to deteriorate." The information continues... "A NOTE ON COLORED PLASTER By its nature, colored plaster will accentuate all of the characteristics normally found in white plaster. Mottling, for example, can be more pronounced in colored plaster than in white. Colored plaster may also exhibit pigment stains, streaks, unevenness of color, and more noticeable checking and crazing. Also, variations of shade will exist between color sample chips and mixed plaster. H&H botched the plaster job in our new pool. Read other reviews, we are not the first people they have done this to. The pool company and H&H are trying to blame us, saying we probably didn't keep our brand new pool (that we are obsessed with cleaning) clean enough. ??? There is major discoloration in the plaster, trowel marks, as well as literal footprints (!!) in our plaster. Our pool looks disgusting. We simply wanted it fixed, no big deal, but they refuse to do so without us signing a document that says it is our fault. This is a brand new pool... weeks old at the time the issues began and when these photos were taken. It was my life long dream to have a pool and now I am stuck with this mess, my heart is broken and I'm just so angry that there are businesses out there that treat people with such disregard. BUYER BEWARE!!! I highly DO NOT recommend h&h. At 5 pm on a Friday, after re plastering our pool, they left us with broken pool equipment but telling us that water needed to start circulating immediately or plaster would be ruined and need to be "re-done". When we asked for help we were told by bill, the project manager, "what do you want me to do about it?" When we deducted HALF the cost of the repair to fix equipment from their final bill, they filed a lawsuit against us. h&h is UNPROFESSIONAL, UNRELIABLE and clearly LITIGIOUS. read more

We have approx. 120 LF of 1"x 1" tile in my pool. We have had 67 tile pop off, in one 15 foot section, in the first year. From week one we have looked at missing tile on our faux edge. H&H ....."It could be the tile, the sun, the water, the temperature, the weather....." Me ...."Could it be an installation issue? Why are all the pops in one small section? Why are there no other tile pops in the entire rest of the pool?" Instead of addressing the DISEASE and retiling that small section, H&H kept treating the SYMPTOMS and replacing the missing tile... to have tile AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN pop off, 67 times. Why should I feel confident the issue is resolved? Popping the tiles back in has lead to the same outcome. If YOU had 67 tile fall off one section of kitchen back splash or one section of a shower wall or one section of a bathroom floor what would you do? H&H came and popped tile back in but H&H would NOT retile the section. Now I am out of warranty and I am on my own. Robert was a nice young man, yet, I cannot recommend H&H. Pool Replastering Warning WARNING if you need to replaster your pool! Be careful when selecting a company! We hired H & H Tile and Plaster. The whole process was an expensive nightmare. We chose them after reading some reviews on Nextdoor. We should have researched them further on YELP. We ended up with a color we did not select along with cracks in the plaster. I tried to stop them when I saw they were using a turquoise blue plaster after we selected a midnight blue. The owner assured me it was the right color and that it would change as it went through a 28-30 day curing process. After having multiple pool companies come over and look at the job, apparently, the plaster was not mixed or applied correctly which caused "crazing" which is cracks in the plaster. Every company that has looked at it has said that it clearly needs to be redone. H & H Tile and Plaster management never once came over to oversee the project, and they continue to look for any excuse to pass the blame. They have refused to replaster or refund our money even though they did not deliver what we purchased. We are in the process of finding a different plaster company to redo it. I used H&H a couple years ago to re-tile a small section of my pool where water had gotten under the tile, frozen and popped the tiles off. They seemed to do an ok job. When the winter storm hit this year, the very same area was effected. The pool tiles were popped off again. So I called them 2 weeks ago to have them re-tile the area, and spoke to a woman who asked me to send some pictures and told me they'd get me a quote and get me on the schedule ASAP. I sent the pictures and never heard back...nothing. I've called and left messages and sent 3 emails. No response. I understand you may be busy but you can atleast acknowledge getting my message and let me know when you'll be getting the quote / when you can come out. You're just wasting peoples time - super disrespectful. I'll find another service. read more

I got a pool built in September 2008. The original plaster was done by the sub-contractor used by our pool builders. The second it was completed we expressed our concerns over the sub-par job. They (the sub-contractors) suggested to wait it out as all the issues might correct itself in time over the curing process and if it didn't they would perform a power-wash and seal the cracks as a one-time only fix. We thought: 'Well, that won't take care of the extreme, mottled patches and marring due to laughable workmanship? We'd just spent $50k. We expected a pool that at the very least met industry standards.' Needless to say, this was an unacceptable solution. So we took things into our own hands and hired a lawyer specializing in pool construction. She recommended we get an independent consult from Andy Hines, an expert with over 25 years of experience in the pool industry ( http://www.hinespool.com/ ). Based on his recommendation, the only solution to the sub-standard plaster job is to get the pool replastered and by a different contractor. He suggested a few plaster companies but only H&H Tile and Plaster made the cut ( http://www.handhtileandplaster.com/ ). They are members of the National Plasterers Council and the National Spa and Pool Institute. The builders finally agreed to our request and on May 1, 2009 and so the pool was replastered. Needless to say, we used H&H Tile and Plaster. Everyone on their staff was professional, respectful of my property (no loogies, smoking or lunch trash), and cleaned up thoroughly. They did a great job and my pool looks fantastic! But a few weeks later, we found several oddly shaped markings where the plaster appeared to be of different colors. I contacted Billy Johns ( I believe he is the owner at their new Austin location or at least the manager), our only point of contact from start to finish. He came over shortly after and arranged to get everything fixed on the spot. He's sent someone over several more times to fix the same issue but the important thing was his responsiveness, urgency in getting the problem fixed, and genuine concern. H&H Tile and Plaster has the proper credentials and employs a professional and competent staff that turns out quality work. I would definitely use them again. read more

I submitted a request for a quote via email (an email account that apparently isn't regularly checked), followed up by phone, then waited 6 weeks for someone (Ryan) to come on-site to inspect the pool. Then it took another 2 weeks to get a quote. Once I had the quote, there were some line items that needed clarification, so I texted Ryan for explanation (especially regarding the replacement of waterline tile for $3,375 when it appeared to be in working condition) and received mansplaining about what waterline tile is (duh!) and not why it actually needed replacement. There was no follow up from the company or Ryan thereafter. My experience with this company was a waste of time and effort. read more

If I could rate lower, I would. We had our pool re plastered by this company in November 20018 and they did a horrible job. There are streaks all over the bottom and sides of the pool. When I called Bill Johns, the sales specialist, he sent me an article from some kind pool place saying re plastering jobs are not 100% guaranteed to be "perfect"!!! Then a green spot, about the size of a quarter, developed below where the tile line and water meets. I called Bill on May 28, he came out and tried to remove it with sandpaper. When that didn't work, he said he needed something else to remove it which he didn't have with him so he would come back. When time went by and he never came back, I called on June 7 and the lady, Vonna, who answered the phone said she would pass the message to Bill. Still never heard back. On June 10, I call him and he said he's been sick. Today is July 12 and I've not heard back. I fear he's waiting for the warranty to expire so he won't have to do anything! I called today, July 11 and spoke with Vonna who got in touch with Bill. She called me back with a message from him in which he apologized for this taking so long to get resolved. He's to get with someone to come over to fix the spot WHEN THEY CAN! I suggest NEVER use this company. read more

Once you have Chuck Pipkin come to give you an estimate for your pool you can rest assured you're in good hands, I mean "THE BEST HANDS !" Chuck reviewed and educated my husband & I about the deficiencies of our 24 year old pool and the repair process that was necessary. He talked about the rough estimate on each stage of repair & time frame involved. He also explained possible contingencies for problems that may arise during the repair process. Explained cost benefit ratio of several different coping & plastering options, including books and samples to help in our selection. Chuck answered all our questions in depth and after 90 min. he recommended we go to the actual business site in Dripping Springs to look at the slabs of coping, the tiles and the multiple plaster options. I was impressed with how helpful the staff was and their willingness to make sure you had all the samples you wanted to take home. Once the project began Chuck personally managed all the crews. First draining the pool, then crews removed coping, tile and plaster. Sandblasting and repairing the pool structure. Building up the spa spillway and reguniting the cracks in the spa bench. Placement of new coping and sealing it. This crew was amazing, watching these artisans cut these heavy 2" stone slabs and making the curves fit perfectly around the pool edge. Application of the bondcoat and finally the intricate process of applying the mini pebbles. Although the project had a few rain days, Chuck promptly notified us of the delays & the revised schedule. He made frequent on site visits and again explained in depth each process as it was being done. Chuck also acted as general contractor in coordinating the revision and updating of the pool equipment done by another company. Each crew arrived on schedule, and did a very professional job including on site clean up. This job went incredibly smooth, no doubt with Chuck's supervision. Talk about some lying, cheating jerks. These guys sold me on a tile job for my fiberglass pool and said I can expect maybe one or two tiles to fall off...how about every last one! When I asked them to try to make it right they claimed they don't do tile on fiberglass pools and that I had been warned and it was my own fault for "letting" them do the job. The owner admitted that he is aware that the tile would fail, that there was no way that would work yet it was my fault for believing them when they sold me the job. Now I have to pay twice for my tile job on my pool. If they had used the proper adhesives all would have been fine. I did learn after the fact that they had no idea of what they were doing. And the owner was not man enough to try to make any of this right, he just blamed me for believing them when they told me they were experts. Stay away from this company! Our contractor used H&H tile and plaster to do our pool plaster in December 2011. Both the contractor and I have tried to contact H&H to come look at cracks that developed, but they would not respond. I tried calling 3 times and not a 1 return call. I contacted BBB and they basically said I don't have standing since I was not the contractor. So my recommendation is to make sure your pool contractor does not use these guys since they don't even return a call. Before I let my contractor used them I saw all these 5 star reviews. Maybe these guys used them directly, but I would be wary. read more

I delayed writing a review until all lawsuits were finished. H and h was the subcontractor for Oasis pools. They completed the pool in 2015. It took over 18 months and lawsuits to get the absolutely horrendous job h and h did fixed. The finish looked like it had cancer with white calcium blotches all over it, and it was so over acid washed that if you sat on the bench it could scratch and break the skin. The chemistry could never be balanced since the mix of the finish was porous and leeched calcium according to the experts we hired. Once we had it redone by another company, no more chemistry problems. To top it off Billy of h and h and Ed of Oasis fought with each other and wouldn't fix the pool- forcing us to have to take legal action. Nightmare. read more

Our pool was re-plastered with a 10 year warranty approx 3 years ago. It had to be done twice to get it right and the granite finish was spotty/discolored and never right. We now have a surface/cosmetic crack that needed repair as we are selling our home. Bill came out to look at it as a warranty repair, said that it was an easy fix and they would send a diver to re-surface it and wouldn't event have to drain the pool. It was an easy repair. They have since declined the warranty work and will not do the repairs. I would NOT recommend them under any circumstances. read more

We did not have our pool re plastered by H & H because of constant hiking of the price. Ryan came out the 1st time to estimate the replastering of our weathered pool. He showed us plaster samples--we picked a medium grayish-blue color. The estimate was emailed to us. The cost would be 11,265.00 with the color plaster we had picked. I emailed back to see if they could do the job for 10,900.00--they said they could and wrote up a new appraisal. Then when it came down to perfecting the plaster choice, Ryan had no clue what we had picked and came back out with samples to re-pick the color. We again picked the color we 1st chose. Ryan said that would be an upgrade of $500.00 for the "new" choice. Soooo.......that would bring the estimate up to 11,400.00 in our minds from the reduced prior estimate of 10,900.00. Today we received an estimate by email of 12, 500.00---Unless Ryan did not go to school......$500.00 plus 10,900.00 is NOT 12, 500.00. Wishy washy sales representative and they do not honor their verbal communication---a company is only as good as their word. read more

My wife and I are so happy with the results from H and H (this is an understatement). They were right on budget, and they completed the job in a timely manner. Their workers work harder than any company I've ever hired to do a job, and let me tell you this job was not an easy one. The pool we got when we bought the house had plaster busting up everywhere, cracks in the foundation, a spaghetti mess of pipes going wild in our garage, and SEVERAL leaks that was requiring us to add water to the pool an hour a day. We received a quote from another company and they tried to scare us on everything and would not commit to a price for the job. Chuck on the other hand knew his stuff and confidently quoted us and kept his word keeping us within budget. Bill and his crew fixed the leaks like geniuses. They spent countless hours figuring out where the leaks were, pressure testing, and after only two days they had fixed the leaks completely (btw, pressure testing is a must in knowing if you have a leak. if someone says it's not needed they are fools). Bill and his crew would not leave until the pool held it's pressure so he knew the leaks were gone. And after a month of using the pool the leaks are for sure 100% gone like Bill said they would be. Chuck was so professional, and was so fun to talk with. He came around throughout the entire project and called with updates constantly as well. I don't have anything negative to say.
