Original plaster color revealed under patch of missing plaster

1/20/22 UPDATE Just spoke with William Bell about our pool plaster discoloration issue. Before anyone considers a textured, pebble or colored pool plaster finish, understand that the many water chemistry variables that are BEYOND your control will likely alter the finish of your pool over time. It also depends on where you live, whether your water supply is hard water or soft water, or if you live in an area that has experienced significant drought. The source water (aquifer) may be drawing from a deeper subsurface formation with different dissolved mineralization, which could affect your pool water chemistry. Mr. Bell stated that our pool has had "aggressive water chemistry" (not sure exactly if he was referring to the water source or pool chemistry) judging by some rust spots showing up on the stainless steel light covers. When it came to the missing plaster spot on the step, he tried to smooth the edges of the spot but ended up slightly exposing the actual original plaster finish (a darker blue than what's seen around the steps; see photo). When I asked Mr. Bell exactly what the H&H 10-year warranty covers, it apparently is good only for major cracks or issues seen throughout the pool. It will not cover repairing the spot on the step. IN CONCLUSION, there is a lot of information available about swimming pool chemical etching on colored surfaces. Be advised to READ THIS INFORMATION THOROUGHLY when considering a textured, pebble, or colored pool finish. H&H did not provide this information when we had the pool redone (that also included redoing the hot tub and pool coping) in 2015; however, they did at the time provide a sheet entitled "Optimum Pool and Spa Water Chemistry Conditions" and how to treat the water for the first 30 days. We followed that to the letter. Since 2018, we've had the same individual (a co-owner of the pool company) treat our pool every single week. He's very professional and does a thorough job. It seems the nature of the textured and colored pool plaster business, in general, takes advantage of the many water chemistry variables and other unknowns beyond their control (pool improperly maintained by homeowner or pool company, source water mineralization, etc.) and has a built-in justification for not honoring warranties. Visit https://www.nationalplastererscouncil.org and check out the Tech Bulletin entitled, "Swimming Pool Interior Finishes and Chemical Etching Deterioration" for more information. I upgraded my review from one star to just three stars. Mr. Bell apologized for missing the previous three or four scheduled appointments, which was a factor for the one-star rating. The invisible "escape" clause built into such pool warranties should be a warning to others...thus, only three stars for a poor warranty. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE (1/19) TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW: Regarding the mottled appearance in the blue quartz plaster finish in our pool, this is what the National Plasters Council states on its website: "In general, pool and spa finishes belong in their own special category, because unlike other masonry or "hardscape" surface products, finishes in pools and spas are constantly submerged in water. This obvious fact means that any pool finish will be exposed to varying water chemistry conditions over time, especially if the pool or spa is maintained improperly. "This constant exposure to pool and spa water, which is treated with a variety of powerful chemicals, creates a dynamic environment where the mineral content of the surface and water are constantly interacting. This interaction between water and the surface is unavoidable and in many cases will cause the appearance of the surface to change, either slowly over time, or in some rare instances, far more rapidly. "In many cases, these phenomena are purely cosmetic, in other more extreme situations, some surfaces will start to deteriorate." The information continues... "A NOTE ON COLORED PLASTER By its nature, colored plaster will accentuate all of the characteristics normally found in white plaster. Mottling, for example, can be more pronounced in colored plaster than in white. Colored plaster may also exhibit pigment stains, streaks, unevenness of color, and more noticeable checking and crazing. Also, variations of shade will exist between color sample chips and mixed plaster. Over time, the color may fade completely or grow gradually lighter and will often not be the precise shade that was anticipated. It's important to note that none of these conditions are considered a deficiency of the product." I will be speaking to William Bell tomorrow about what exactly their warranty covers; I would think it would cover the one spot on one of the steps where the blue quartz plaster is missing. I may update my one-star review after I speak with Mr. Bell tomorrow and they make good on their warranty.

H&H botched the plaster job in our new pool. Read other reviews, we are not the first people they have done this to. The pool company and H&H are trying to blame us, saying we probably didn't keep our brand new pool (that we are obsessed with cleaning) clean enough. ??? There is major discoloration in the plaster, trowel marks, as well as literal footprints (!!) in our plaster. Our pool looks disgusting. We simply wanted it fixed, no big deal, but they refuse to do so without us signing a document that says it is our fault. This is a brand new pool... weeks old at the time the issues began and when these photos were taken. It was my life long dream to have a pool and now I am stuck with this mess, my heart is broken and I'm just so angry that there are businesses out there that treat people with such disregard. Please, beware.

H&H Tile installed grout was not mixed properly per the manufacturer. Owner of the company will not engage with us, nor will they send an employee out to inspect. Forced to pursue legally. Example of the work performed by H&H Tile - https://youtu.be/28yQyv6RrRc

    Our hot tub and pool

Our pool and spa's tile and plaster were completed in October of 2019 by H&H. They did a fantastic job. The pictures speak for themselves. Their crew was diligent and cleaned up very well after them selves. We didn't have one issue, I just can't recommend them enough!

Chuck from H&H was great. He was friendly, responsive, and knowledgable. He understood exactly what we wanted. They brought tile samples and plaster samples so we knew exactly what to expect. Once we signed the estimate, our pool was drained, chipped out, replastered, and filled in just over a week. Overall we are very happy with the end result.

Koren was super pleasant to work with all around. Fast, clear communication before the initial meeting. A lot of a great ideas during the initial meeting, for how to keep our project within budget, and where it was worth splurging or dialing back. We had requested a bid on two main projects (Kitchen and Primary Bathroom) and help deciding the scope for the remainder of our projects (Flooring, Guest Bath, Office, Patio, Etc.). We were shocked by how much of the "bonus" projects we could fit in, and yet felt very confident with Koren's insights that these were realistically within our budget. The formal quote came in REALLY fast after our meeting, and was very easy to follow and extremely fairly priced. Was very impressed with how quickly they were ready to begin the work, and the forethought of asking us if we planned to "live-in" during the remodel vs. get an AirBNB or the like. We hadn't even thought of that. Would have been very confident in moving forward with ATX Remodeling. Especially as Koren had so many examples of the type of elaborate communication and oversight we would have at every stage of the process.

Michelle came out and gave a very thorough quote. She was fantastic. Answered all my questions, left me feeling confident that they knew what they were doing and could not only fix all the problems the previous contractor had caused but also go above and beyond to do all the things we had hoped we'd get originally. She worked with me on every little detail and gave great advice throughout. Michelle knows what she is doing and got me a quote that was crystal clear and very reasonable. Daniel ran the job and was fantastic as well. He had great insights, let me nag him about every possible question I could come up with, was flexible if I had any changes of heart about this or that, extremely easy to work with. All of his subs were top notch, which I can say as a business owner in the construction field myself is extremely rare. Plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile work, all were fantastic. He's surrounded himself with great people that get the job done right the first time. They didn't bat an eyelash at the art deco tile or the smart valves or any other unusual items I sent their way, they knocked it out with ease. And lastly Koren worked with me on any project details/paperwork that I needed. Was very responsive to everything I brought to him as I looked for assurances that I wouldn't have the same experience I had with the last folks. A very easy to work with company all around. I will be using these guys for future projects because the price is right, the quality is fantastic, and most importantly were willing to entertain any weird ideas I had. Your home is one of those things that has to be just right for you, and they made sure the bathroom remodel turned out just right for me. Would recommend them to anybody, and I'm a picky OCD guy, so that's saying something. Thanks again, ATX Remodeling!

For prospective customers reading this, here is the verified context: Fraudulently advertising yourselves as a "James Hardie Elite Preferred Contractor" to secure the job, only to systemically violate the manufacturer's strict installation guidelines, is not a "punch-list" oversight--it is deceptive marketing and a material breach of contract. Puncturing an internal PVC plumbing pipe, illegally wrapping it in black duct tape, and immediately hiding it behind the new siding is not a 'punch-list' item - it is active fraudulent concealment. The 'Fraudulent' Financing: We authorized the payment because they claimed to follow actively concealed the duct-taped plumbing. Inducing a customer to authorize a loan by hiding severe damage is the legal definition of fraudulent concealment. Contradictory Public Statements & The BBB Complaint: JP Exteriors is using public platforms to feign cooperation. On our active BBB complaint, they claim they are waiting for our independent inspection report before taking action. However, their own written record proves they inspected the property themselves on June 11th and issued a superficial patching offer on June 22nd. The very next day, they explicitly stated in writing they were not willing to expand their scope to a full replacement, formally refusing to cure the hidden defects before our third-party inspection was even conducted on June 24th. The 42-page independent inspection report, which we received on June 29, definitively confirms that the widespread, concealed code violations and structural deficiencies cannot be resolved through superficial patching. The report details systemic failures, including improperly installed weather-resistant barriers, missing flashings, overdriven fasteners, damaged boards, unsealed wall penetrations, and an internal PVC plumbing pipe that was punctured by a fastener and actively concealed with black duct tape. The Manufacturer's Involvement: James Hardie is indeed involved, to the extent that the manufacturer offered to provide free replacement materials to JP Exteriors so they could execute a proper rework. JP Exteriors leadership actively refused this offer. We stand entirely by our documented evidence, our 42-page forensic inspection report, and our active fraud dispute with the Texas Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. The video proof of punctured plumbing remain on this review.

He was very knowledge about all my concerns and had confident answers to them. The communication with the office was really good. Wish I would have done a little more research than choosing this company…read more Service Requested: This has to be one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. I would never do business with them again. Their installers were awesome, but the office staff and sales team are horrible. I inquired about an order in August 2023. Salesperson called me immediately and came to my home the following day of my inquiry to take measurements and provided a quote. Made the decision to go with them and month later I had to call them to see what the status was of my order (According to their website and from the sale guy, it will take 12 - 13 days from the date of purchase for orders to be filled). After several run arounds, they finally told me that they would be coming out to install the shower door. Came to my home to install the shower door and shower wall, and I noticed that there were several scratches on all the pieces of glass. Therefore, they had to reorder another glass (no one checked the glass prior to coming to my home). Another month went by, and I had to call again to see what the status was of the reorder. No one had a clue. Call the sales guy, and he had no clue as well after he had already come back to my home to request an expedited order due to the damage. Now, two months have gone by, and replacement glass still has not shown up. Once the glass showed up in November 2023, again, there were more scratches on all the pieces of glass. Another month goes by, and I had to call once again to check the status of the reorder and the GM stated that he would take care of the issue but once again, the GM provided false pretense and lack of the customer service. Now it is January 2024, and I finally had to call back once again to check the status of my order, and they finally told me the glass is ready. With a lack of confidence, I went out to the office to where they store the glass to check and make sure that everything was finally fixed. Finally, the glass checked out and finally got the glass installed. After 6 months of inconvenience of not able to use my new shower, they were not willing to provide any compensation after me calling, texting, and reaching out them several times and not concerned about their customers. Value: Great quality of glass, but the manufactures do not check their work. Therefore, you better check before installing. Overall: I would NOT recommend this company until they improve their customer service. Again, this was the worst experience I've ever had.
