For over 15 years my family and I loved this place. Whether u need one good plate lunch or a solid bento to start your day off this place was and continues to be the shit. From good variety on the bento choice, solid value on the portions and price and especially taste this place always hit the spot. The only thing keeping me from coming daily like I used to is the lack of the custom bento. I went to H&K on a Wednesday morning before 10AM after looking through Yelp and selecting H&K for a bento before flying out. There were a selection of bentos sitting on a table in front of the counter but I went to look at the menu first. The lady there told me that the hot kitchen was not open yet so all the could sell me was a bento. So, I selected a Teri beef, chicken katsu and meat jun bento. I regretted my purchaser right away. The Teri beef was the toughest I've ever had, jerky like. I kept dipping it in the katsu sauce to moisten the meat. The Katsu was chicken I think. It was sliced amazingly thin cut so I couldn't tell if it was chicken or pork. It was also dry and tough, worst I've ever had. I did like the meat jun and the daikon pickles. Pre-COVID time, my friends and I would go here on a weekly basis for lunch because their prices are insanely cheap for the amount of food given. It's located in a small "shopping" area next to the East Wind Chinese and Kitchen Umeko (Japanese sign) on Lanikaula Street. Parking is quite limited for the food area and the lot itself is relatively narrow. I love getting their bentos that come in either premade or own choosing. They offer a variety of protein and sides options that are all amazing. I would usually get their BBQ chicken or beef which came with meat jun, one mandoo, kimchi. Loooove it! For the price paid ($6-7) and amount food you get, a definite yes from me! I've actually never gotten their plate ones (which you can order!) because their bentos are already very filling. We showed up at lunchtime on a Thursday, and the kitchen was closed to custom orders. There were a couple of bento options -- combos of teriyaki chicken, kaarage, jun, and fried mandu. We also grabbed the fish cake kimbap and some cucumber kimchee, the only other two items available. Everything was fine, but not special in any way... This is in a little lot area off of Kinoole and Lanikaula St. Parking is somewhat limited but it doesn't get too bad. From the moment I got in line, I felt quite rushed. Hearing the customers before made me nervous because the lady at the counter was asking questions fast and moving around fast with this rushed attitude. So service is fast, but certainly not pleasant. We ordered the bentos - one was Mochiko Chicken & Chicken Katsu and the other was Spicy Pork & Meat Jun. Mochiko Chicken was actually pretty tasty. Chicken katsu was alright. Spicy pork, just a little fatty, and not too spicy. Meat Jun was okay. Also ordered the side of kimchi, was watery and not at all good. Highly DO NOT recommend! Okay but after we ate, WE WERE STILL HUNGRY. Yeah, the portions in my pictures give you an idea of how, um, little we were given. Prices , well, not justified to their portions. You can easily go elsewhere for a heartier bento for a cheaper price. Taste? Okay, maybe like 3/5. Service? 1/5: *snap Price? 2/5: I was hungry Go back? Maybe...if someone else is working... We stopped in our our way around the island on vacation. Ummmmm - YES PLEASE!!! Yummy, affordable, and the nicest person working the front EVER!!! Everything we had was delish, and prices were so incredibly reasonable. We had braced for an expensive lunch venture just given that we were on the Big Island, but our total was about the same as a lunch at Chili's at home... and of course, WAY better!!! All of our kids (ages 3, 7, 8, and 9) ate every bite, plus they tried some of my and my husband's meals. We ended up taking our lunch to Hilo Bayfront Park (where there are restrooms with soap!) before heading over to Two Ladies for mochi on the recommendation of H&K. Great food! It's difficult to find Korean food. Simple, easy take out. They have bentos too.

Went there for the first time couple days ago. My curiosity got the best of me as the line went out the door at 11am in the morning. So I'm like "whas going on ova hea? Why da line so long?". So I ordered maki sushi labeled "c" and "b" not knowing the difference. Kim chee fried rice looked average. Deep fried sweet potato in an andagi batter and a couple other things. BOY WAS I BLOWN AWAY. Little shop, nothing special. THEN YOU EAT. GOOD LAWD!! The maki sushi had beef (b) inside and the (c) was for chicken. I ate it while car moving in da car wash. Was so ono that I came out of the car wash, went back and bought some more. Best sushi I ever had. It was perfection for me. I don't eat raw fish but this with da beef and chicken was a winnah! The Kim chee fry rice was perfect. Andagi with yellow and purple sweet potato was so ono. I went back again the next day and was thinking about it today. So good!! Dey make bomb bentos too. Lastly let me rate the service...only one lady in the front of house. She's pretty efficient! At times the line wraps outside the building and this is a LUNCH spot so she really tries to process all the orders quickly as most people only have an hour lunch. She's always friendly and kind when I go but its SHORT AND SWEET. She doesn't have time to sit there and talk story. I'm giving 10 out of 10 for service. I had my own restaurant in Cali so I how how hard it is to work quickly and and efficiently while people are HANGRY. I try to be patient and have my order ready when I get to front of line. The lady who was working the front was very sweet and informative. Service was very quick and when I picked it up the lady at the front was so nice she said she put some cabbage in my plate to try since I was unsure when I called (the nice gesture really made my day.) This place has got to be my go to spot for Korean plate lunches. The service here is fast and friendly. Their portions are pretty good too, especially their sides. The prices are still affordable and they haven't raised the prices much over the past year. Everything there is good and they give a Decent amount of food. Their side dishes are very tasty too! My favorites are the Bean Sprouts, Tofu, Taegu, Kim Chee, Mac Salad, Seaweed Salad and Spicy Cucumber. For the Meat choices, I like to get a 2 choice combo of either the Chicken Katsu, BBQ Chicken, Mochiko Chicken, or Kalbi. I have to say that I'm also addicted to their Fried Mandu. I can easily eat a dozen by myself, but usually get a side of 6 pieces :-( its that good! They also have $5.50 bentos available, if you're in a hurry at lunch time. The only down fall would be the very small parking lot. It's a shared lot with other eateries, ugh! That's the reason why I'm giving this place a 4 star. read more

I am not going to lie, H&K is very fast and convenient for a student like me who is hungry and in a hurry. They have pre-packed bentos on sale usually on a table when you walk in. They vary slightly on what is in your bento but thery usually have Meat Jun, Mochiko Chicken, Katsu and etc with sweet potato and some Kimchi over rice. Their food is just OK. I am Korean and I know how real korean food tastes like. I cant say these food is authentic because obviously they arent and I am sure they know they are just selling local, hawaiian type of Korean food. The girl at the counter, however, is pretty rude. She never says hi and shes always rushing. I dont know why she cant be nicer. It bothers me a lot but just because I cant find any other place to go I see myself coming back. Yeah, she's fast and trained well but she needs to put on a smile. I mean, in the end, it is all about customer service. Selling a variety of bento lunches for $5-6 a piece, along with the quality of the food, it's a hard one to beat. At any given time, there is a table full of warm bentos ready for your consumption. In these bentos, you can find delectable dishes such as meat jun, korean chicken, mandu, kimchi (different styles available in each bento), chicken katsu, and other things that I'm sure I'm forgetting. Long story short, the variety of foods that you can get for a great price is certainly not lacking. Also available are combo meals. For a three-choice plate lunch, it's around $10. However, unlike some other venues, you really do get your money's worth here. The rice will be piled high, and there is no shortage of each choice in there. In fact, if you were able to eat an entire plate, I would applaud you. The one gripe I have with this place is the parking situation. Since it's a very small restaurant in a very small shopping center (with most of the parking reserved for other places. ugh.), there's not exactly a ton of spaces during lunch hour, when it's busiest. It's to the point where I find it easier to simply park somewhere close and walk over to the shop. However, that's not enough to get me to stop going here, and I'd urge you very strongly to give it a try yourself; even if you need to brave the poor parking situation! read more

Good place for take out Korean food. I have been coming to this location ever since they had opened back in 2004/2005. Service is fast and friendly. The portions are good. Although the food is put on a warmer for the customers to see, they don't make a huge amount; they make enough to keep the food fresh as long as possible. You can either go a la carte or 2 choice combo with side order of veggies and mandoo. The most tastiest dish is their korean chicken. Spice is good enough, and tastes so much better when they just made it. Although I have moved away from the Big Island, I try my best to make it to this little shop everytime I come to visit. Plates include: One or two scoops of rice with your choice of: Korean chicken, Chicken katsu, Meat jun, Mochiko chicken, Saba fish, Bbq chicken, Spicy pork, and Kalbi if your willing to wait a few minutes for it to be cooked. You can also choose a combo of two entrees, if you can't decide on just one. Your choice of either mac salad or long noodles with veggies, and three other sides also, which include: tofu, cucumber or regular kim chee, bean sprouts, seaweed. They will also give you one piece of mandoo with your order. Prices are fair which is about $7 for a one choice plate with the sides, or a little under $9 for the two choice with the sides. They give a lot of food on the plates, so trust me you won't go hungry!! In fact most people I know can't finish the plate in one sitting.
