I really want to love this store. Cute clothes, affordably priced. Yeah, the quality can be crap. I can never find anything worth buying. Nothing I try on fits properly. It probably has something to do with the fact that I'm not a stick. I'm a healthy, normal weight. I have curves. I kind of like it that way. Apparently the Europeans don't. I tried on my normal size and the size up, but still, nothing fit. That is not good. I did manage to find a really cute coat last week. It's knee-length, but pea-coat style. Love! I'm waiting for the buttons to fall off. Yes. I know they will -- it's only a matter of time. I really wish they had one of these in Houston TX. My first time coming here was last year. My friend and I rented a scooter and took it out on a scooter trip around the city. We were in town for Lollapalooza . The first 2 days of our stay in Chicago we wanted to go around and shop, eat, and site see. We parked to scooter somewhere near the Willis Tower and walked from there. After visiting the Sky deck at the Willis Tower we decided we may want to pick up some new clothes. I have never been in a H&M before and I hardly ever shop. I was on vacation so hey! Why the hell not?! Walking in it looks like you're average Macy's or Dillards, but looking closer and taking things of the shelves you notice something different. The price! It was as if they were giving the stuff away! This made me more comfortable in picking out a few things to try on. There was so much style, selection, and color! There was something in every rack I wanted to try on! I tried on a few articles of clothing, mixed and matched, and asked for advise on style?! Oh man! I hope I'm not sounding over the top but, seriously I don't ever get into shopping how I did here. I bought 2 hats, 2 sweaters, and 2 shirts for 70 bucks! I'm not kidding you! I was surprised when I got over to the register. I hope Houston gets with the program and gets one of these stores. read more

I've been to a few other H&M's in Chicago and this one has just become my favorite! They have a great variety of items and a very large section for "work clothing" larger than any other in the area. Everything is organized and even the sales section is clean. Usually the clearance racks in other stores look like the tasmanian devil ransacked it. The girls that work there are very nice and helpful. I asked one at the register about an item and all she did was look at the tag and knew her stuff. She didnt have to look anything else up. Also the one in the fitting room was nice even though I tried on about 35 items and handed her at least half back. Of course I had them back on the hangers, right-side out because I'm a civilized person. I personally had a relaxing time shopping here! read more

So, this is like a store for young people. I think. I'm not young anymore. I think. Reasonably priced clothing. I think. Seems to fit me well. I think. So the strange part of this store, at least in the men's clothing area for suits and dress shirts, is that the sizes are S M L and XL. Weird. I'm usually looking for a small neck size and a long arm size because, well, I'm long and thin. But, I ventured into the "slim" area of the store, and found these XL slim shirts that fit reasonably well, for less than an arm and an unusually long leg. Neck is still too big for a tie, but small enough for decent wearability casually. Next up...socks. Several different styles, all reasonably priced. And with buy two get one free, you can't beat that! read more

I love H&M. The staff here was not very helpful and didn't bother extending the basic levels of professional customer service "[big smile] How are you doing here, may I help you find anything"? They also have no bags/baskets for clothes so the whole shopping experience was hot and unnecessarily confusing as I logged around my winter coat, scarf and items for purchase. read more

My love for this place has gone wayyyyyyy down since last year. They employees have simply lost respect for others and are just unethical in their day to day interaction with customers. This applies to managment as well. I have shopped here since they first opened and loved their prices and quality. However, a customer's experience involves more than just the prices. A simple remark from an employee(s) or sign of disrespect pretty much kills the mood and makes one hesistate to think if he/she should come back. At the last time I visited, I was not acknowledged by any employee on any of the floors I've visited. Like Rachelle G. said, they're pretty much "talking to one another half the time. And the only time they acknowledge you is to ask that you please hang your clothes on the hangers upon returning from the dressing room. When I went to pay for my purchase, not even a simple hello. The only time the cashier talked was to tell me how much my purchase was." That pretty much summed up my last visit to the store. I've always had respect for H&M but have never really been a frequent shopper. Over the holidays, when an out of town friend was here, we hit up the Michigan Ave H&M. I found a few really cute items on the clearance rack, each for about $13 bucks. I have a new appreciation for this store and will definitely have to frequent more often. They have a pretty good selection of cute, fashion forward items at a good price! read more

Under construction currently, but that didn't distract me from buying clothes for my son. The H&M near me doesn't have a huge young boys section so I was very excited to shop at this location. Not very many clothes in his size at this location, but the $10 off $60 coupon allowed me to find enough to add to his spring/summer wardrobe. So, H & M doesn't exist in LA...or at least, it didn't last time I was there. Therefore, Chicag H & M = very happy me. Trendy clothes at very low to decent prices makes for wonderful shopping. I never feel bad whenever I buy stuff from there. The problem is the crowds. I like to try on clothes to make sure I don't look stupid wearing them. When I first shopped at an H&M in Manhattan, I was blown away. For $20 I bought three weeks worth of outfits. When I heard H&M was coming to Michigan avenue I had a small stroke in anticipation. Boy was I disappointed. The men's selection just stinks. I don't think I've ever gotten anything more than sunglasses at this location. I love this store! They've definitely up-ped their game this season especially. I love their new pants shipment. Also the promo for spending a certain amount and receiving a gift card will definitely have me coming back in addition to the friendly cashiers. All the clothes aren't always put perfectly in order however I constantly see employees folding and picking things up so I dig the effort. I also feel that this place is hit or miss. Sometimes I can walk in and buy a ton of stuff and other times I come out empty handed. It's also always so busy! I've gone on my lunch hour and wanted to try something on and then buy it and it would take up the entire hour. If I accidentally brought in the wrong size, I would just say "screw it" and come back the next day because I can't be late back from lunch due to shopping! The quality of the clothes is just ok...some of the stuff falls apart at the seams and it's just cheap fabric, but if you need a shirt to go out in that night, it's fine. I highly recommend going in the middle of the week and early in the day to avoid the huge crowd that just always seems to fill every H&M store possible. I like that this store is so big because I can usually find that one item I love even if I'm not looking. However, if you are looking for something specific, good look finding it. Today I was looking for black tuxedo leggings with the faux leather side stripe. I asked 3 different employees which each told me a completely different place to look. The third got the closest pointing me in the direction that led me to faux leather leggings with a cotton material stripe (the inverse of what I actually wanted). I finally did find some black leggings which are not what I originally wanted but what else could I do at that point besides except the fact that they will forever be hidden within the depths of these racks. The store is always jam packed and kind of messy but I have worked in retail and understand the struggles of keeping a store clean during busy hours. Other customers should also understand this even if you haven't worked in retail. It is, afterall, right on Michigan Ave, a huge tourist trap. Just keep to yourself and keep your head down. When I saw a coat I wanted in a magazine and went to H&M I couldn't find it in the store. Their website is just a huge billboard. You can't even shop online..the last time I checked! It's crowded all the time and you have no breathing room unless you go there like at 11 in the morning during the week while people are at work. Although, they keep moving the Men's department..first the first floor, then first & second, now it's kinda on the second and part of the 3rd floor. The Men's clothes department gets 3 stars, the price you pay for the quality is actually not bad. The checkouts and checkout personnel get 1 star. Plan on waiting at least 20 minutes on any day to check out, as it has happen to me numerous times. The staff has no sense of urgency and don't seem to care that there are paying customers waiting in excessively long in lines. There was even a time I threw down my purchase and left because I waited almost 30 minutes to check out... The total would have come to around $90. Merchandise is on constant turnover. Bought sandals a week ago and they broke. Have bag AND bill. Have called every H&M in Chicagoland and nobody has the sandals. WHY DID I PAY FULL PRICE if they are so phased out? Nobody has them..no plans to get more...no ability to purchase off of website. I have to say that this H&M facilitates extremely mixed feelings within me. The problem is that I love H&M's clothes, but I hate going to H&M. I love the price, I love that the clothes are trendy and interesting, I love that I can really put together an outfit I want to wear by going here. I hate that the store is always crowded, seems to have no meaningful organization (I swear that every time I go, the men's clothes are differently rearranged around the 2nd and 3rd floors). I also *always* seem to run into drama at the checkout line. I'm sorry--this store is *always* crowded--why is there only EVER one (maybe two) cashiers on the men's floor. And it shouldn't take seven hours to check out each person. I don't get it! Waiting in line at H&M is literally the worst experience I can imagine in the world. It's a decent place, and of course I will be back there (I'm going to need more underwear and pants eventually!), but I just wish that I didn't leave in the most stressed condition imaginable. read more

I wanted to like H&M. I really did. But I swear they have skinny mirrors. The pants that looked good on me in the store suddenly were completely unflattering when I got them home. Couple that with the long lines just to get in the fitting room and I really don't want to try anything on. In addition, I've never been impressed with the staff. One associate actually told me that I had to take a hoodie to the dressing room, and couldn't just try it on over my clothes. No reason was given except "store policy". So I'm supposed to wait in a half-hour line to try on a jacket? I don't think so. I left and haven't been back, which is just as well since this store has also eliminated their plus-size section so there's nothing that would fit me anyway. read more

H&M shopping is usually a painful experience to begin with, with cheap polyester-rayon made clothings that, as everyone else says, falls apart after second wash. Not to mention that crowd that makes me want to scream blue murder and run across the street to a less crowded (and more expensive) Macy's. Sizing is bad. I'm an EU size 32 or 34 (I think US size 0~4), but here I can range up to 40. I bought a woolen/polyester black dress that had a cowl neck - not only was it short to the point that it no longer served the function of a dress, but after one wash it leeched its colouring everywhere dying all my clothes from ashy gray to dusky purple but shrunk even further, now making it a tunic. The colouring is usually garish with grey somewhere (imagine: turquoise blue with grey, fuchsia pink with grey). It's not up my alley. As for the men's clothes - well, if you're my friend the model, you might like this place but then models usually look fabulous wearing anything. As for the regular people like my boyfriend - skinny jeans with neon pink tank top is the right way to go look metro. Skinny short men are well catered by this shop, but if you're tall/muscular, it might be a bit tougher for you. The clothes are not as cheap as some people trumpet. For the quality and the design, I can think of better places to shop. A cotton skirt for $40 which is going to fall apart next month is not plausible for me. All in all, not impressed. For sixty bucks I can buy a cashmere sweater next door. read more

I love H&M. I normally don't love this location because it gets a lot of tourist traffic and so they are out of most sizes. However, in the last month I have been coming to this location a lot because the designer collections crazes have been wonderfully subdued here at the Chicago H&M. I seriously cannot believe they still have any of the Versace x H&M line for sale over a month later when most stores all over the world sold out within 20 minutes. The amount of items they have is amazing as well. They've still got 12 of the dresses! (12 styles, not 12 total dresses). What's a problem for me is H&M practices absolutely NO quality control. Unfortunately, the Versace for H&M pieces that keep reappearing back in this store are returns, and since the tags are on little chains, you can wear the Versace collection clothes and then just return them when done! I bought 2 dresses which were in pretty crappy condition, and didn't realize it until I got home--multiple pulls in the fabric and missing sparkly pieces! I called the store the next day and they said I could just come back and return them, someone had just done that earlier that day. ok... So H&M has a thing where you return something because it's a "bad item." However, a few days after returning the dresses--and I pointed out everything that was wrong to the clerk who accepted my return--these same dresses were back on the racks. Really?? They should be inspecting things people return to begin with, but then when they return it to the racks despite the poor condition and expect someone else to pay $200 for the dress? Sad. read more

Horrible customer service!! I am a Loyola University graduate student and decided to do some shopping between classes. I was literally followed the entire time I was in the establishment. Not once was I asked if I needed assistance, despite the fact that a sales person was always a few steps behind or beside me. It was ridiculous. Never again will I patronize this establishment. Children item review The toddler selection was small. I was not able to find any children bow ties or ties. They did have 2 suspenders but not in the color I was looking for. It is stroller friendly as there were elevators too. There was limited staff so it's hard to find someone to ask questions. read more

Because my ass used to be way too fat to shop at H&M other than the buying of accessories and a few random shirts that happen to run big, I was never in H&M very often unless I was dragged there by friends on a Mich Ave shopping spree. Now that I've lost enough weight to fit into regular sizes, I'm all about this place. It's cheap, which my wallet likes and trendy enough to not make me look like my mother. I scored one of those oversized, off the shoulder t-shirts made popular by the Kardashian sisters for only $6 and a really cute slate gray minidress for under $40. You absolutely cannot beat those prices. Just a tip - I know there's a lot of clamoring about how the lines are long, it's overcrowded and OMG... TOURISTS! Um, it's Michigan Avenue? That's where tourists go. I'd advise doing your shopping on a weekday during the day. I was there on a Thursday at around 1pm and the store was practically empty. read more

I am giving H&M 4 stars because they do have trendy clothes at very affordable prices (border line cheap), but the clothes are cheaply made. It doesn't really matter though since you aren't paying top dollar for them, but don't expect to get too many wears out of the clothes. The store is great for tank tops or simple basics that you need like camisoles, and they have cute skirts as well. please don't shop at h&m. i worked in the fashion industry for 10 years in production/manufacturing. when the price of a garment is too good to be true, there was most likely cheap, sweatshop labor involved. in my experience, work was never intended to be sent to a sweatshop. it was only found to be using unapproved practices after surprise visits from our agents overseas. it was impossible for us to police our manufacturers 24-7. we usually stopped production immediately with that factory and until we felt we could trust them again, we didn't use them. eventually, i stopped working for designers/manufacturers who put such little value in human life. additionally, i recently found out about an employee at the michigan ave. store who allegedly harassed an asian american woman. after the harassment, when the woman complained to management, they did nothing about it. to my knowledge, the employee still works there and was never reprimanded nor were the managers who allowed the harassment to take place. the petition reads as follows: This past September 2007, Asian American Institute filed a discrimination complaint with the City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations, seeking redress for Frannie Richards, a Filipino American nurse who suffered anti-Asian and sex-based harassment at the Magnificent Mile H&M department store. The harassment included "mail-order bride" comments, ridicule concerning Ms. Richards' ability to understand English, as well as mocking "ching, ching, chang" noises by an H&M employee. "Anti-Asian, xenophobic, and misogynist verbal attacks still happen on a daily basis," said Asian American Institute Legal Director Myron Dean Quon. "Asian American women, like Ms. Richards, should never have to deal with this type of harassment, in Chicago no less." When Ms. Richards entered H&M to go shopping for clothes, she had no idea that she would be the victim of a hostile and threatening environment. "As a registered nurse and retired U.S . Air Force Reserve Staff Sgt., I knew that I had to enforce my civil rights, for myself and other Asian American women. Because H&M refused to discipline this employee, I immediately thought of my own female relatives and friends. The workplace usage of disparaging anti-Asian slurs should require the termination of that H&M employee." Quon noted that Asian Americans should be able to visit retail establishments and other businesses without having to endure a humiliating and offensive environment. Asian American Institute will represent Ms. Richards based her claim that H&M violated the City's Human Rights Ordinance, when the employee harassed Ms. Richards and also when in it refused her request to file a formal complaint. Half my wardrobe is from H&M, so it pains me to have to write a negative review. On a visit a couple weeks back I bought a top and a couple of rings. One of the rings, which had a giant pendant on it, broke before I even got to take the tag off. Most stores have a policy that if an item is unworn and breaks, you can at least return it for store credit or something of equal value. So on my next visit, I took the ring back with my receipt. The cashier ran the numbers, and the ring somehow wasn't on the receipt. That's weird, I said, since I bought two rings that day and there are two pieces of jewelry listed on the receipt. Cashier girl then called over a manager, an older guy who looked like he belonged in an L.L. Bean or something. The cashier must've put this in your bag without ringing it up, he said, so this ring hasn't been paid for. Noticing the SKU #'s on the ring and on the receipt were almost identical, I asked if maybe there was a typo or a misprint somewhere? Was it maybe rung up incorrectly? Not even responding, this manager continued to insinuate that I had "accidentally" stolen this ring. He then made me wait at the cash register for 10 minutes while he went to track down the ring, and wouldn't allow me to check out until he'd found it. Coming back up with a new ring, he insisted I should "repurchase" this one. Umm, no thanks, not now that I know it's going to break as soon as I get home. By the way, all this was over a $4 piece of jewelry. As all this was happening the checkout line was growing longer, since this poor cashier was the only one working and was forced to wait while this manager went ring-hunting. Meaning towards the end I had an audience of at least a dozen watching while this guy basically accused me of shoplifting. I realized at this time that this was all terribly illegal and I should've asked for a GM, but I was embarrassed and fighting back tears at this point and really just wanted to get the hell out of there. I want to be able to write this off as a REALLY bad isolated experience since I've enjoyed shopping here otherwise, but every friend in retail I've mentioned this to has been appalled. I'd happily take the extra couple El stops to the State St. store after all this. read more

This is 2.5 stars at best and probably one of the more disorganized H&Ms I've encountered. I decided to stop in before a Yelp neon-themed event to see if I could find some accessories/accents on the cheap. I am not a regular customer of this H&M. I was in here over a year ago, and found the layout tolerable, not to mention there were way more cash registers. On this visit, I felt there was no rhyme or reason to the displays, and the merchandising was way off. I'm not sure if they are still renovating here, as there is a building permit on the door. The first floor is probably the least cluttered, but then again, there is probably the least amount of stuff here, and it seemed like all the crap had been shifted up to the 2nd floor, at least on the women's side. The cashiers seemed a bit absent, at times carrying on conversations with their co-workers. I did buy a couple of $1 items, but even at that felt a sense of regret, whereas I usually get a frisson of joy at finding bargains. This was a one off visit for me and I will likely be sticking to the State Street location or the Roosevelt Collection shop. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with H&M. I like H&M if I can find something that actually fits me and still looks fresh. I wore a great camisole under a suit for Christmas and got tons of compliments on it. Also, I got some fun fashion jewelry to go with the top and got compliments on it as well. Otherwise, the clothes seem to be made for stick thin girls not women for that matter. This location is the worst of the offerings in Chicago. People were waiting in lines that looked like they could be a half hour just to try on clothing.
