I would definitely recommend this location over the other one, which felt messy and like an overpriced H&M location. The interior was slightly more upscale and less sterile. The collection and arrangements were perfect and very appealing. I really love coming to Zara, especially since they don't have one in St. Louis. They have lots of trendy options for affordable prices, and I always seem to find something that is unique to me. This Zara in particular is superrrrr busy, to the point where it's almost uncomfortable to shop. I respect that it comes with the location, but I think it would be beneficial to cap the amount of customers coming in and create a waiting area. That might sound excessive, but we had to leave since we couldn't find a space to look at what was on the racks. I would have probably purchased something if I would have had a bit of breathing room. It's a jumbled hot mess of clothing in a store about half the size it needs to be to handle the Michigan Ave tourists. Yes, the clothes are cheap and comparable to H&M (which is right across the street) in quality and style. The Men's department is ridiculous. Clothes strewn around everywhere, no coordination of styles, empty soda and beer cans littered display stands on two separate visits, and everyone is bumping into each other. Service in the Men's department is non-existent because the ONE salesperson I saw is hurriedly trying to fold and hang all the crap dumped everywhere. It's like this every time I visit this location. This is NOT the Zara experience I had at their Old Orchard store, where the clothing is displayed elegantly, organized, and people actually greet you and ask if you need help. I've shopped at this Zara location on Michigan Ave. twice during my visit to Chicago, spending nearly $500 between the two days, and my experience with Carlos in management was disappointing. I found an item that was incorrectly tagged, brought it to a sales rep (who was very kind), and then asked management if they could honor the price. Carlos confirmed it was the last item in the store but refused to honor it, and his attitude was unnecessarily rude. For a large corporation like Zara, I expect better customer service, especially for loyal, paying customers. To make matters worse, you can't even call individual stores anymore; you must visit in person to speak with someone or call a general customer support line. Unfortunately, I was met with an extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience at the register, where two associates--one white and one Latino--refused to provide their names when asked. As someone who has worked in customer service, I was shocked by the level of disrespect I received. When I calmly requested the store's customer service number and the names of the employees, I was met with hostility and, to my disbelief, they threatened to call security on me simply for asking for accountability. This was not only uncalled for--it was outrageous. I have never felt so disrespected as a customer in any retail environment. If this is how your team handles paying customers, especially those willing to make significant purchases, it speaks volumes about the store's priorities and culture. I will also be reaching out to the company's executive leadership to ensure this issue is escalated appropriately. We had my niece stand on line while she was trying on things and then when we went out of the dressing room, it was time to check out. (I needed to use the ladies room so they recommended going to Saks two blocks down, but I ended up in TMobile next door since I had to get the screen fixed on my phone). Flew to Chicago for the Xmas holiday and went shopping on Michigan Avenue stopped in to buy an outfit and when they rang me up the register would not print a reciept so they asked to ring me up again at the next register where they charged me again. I immediately asked them if the pending 1st charge would be reverse in a return and they said the transaction had not processed because their register could not print a receipt. I was then met with hostility after I asked to speak with a manager about this and was told I was of base. I asked for the managers name and he wouldn't even provide me with his name only his title of "registry clerk". Now that the charges have posted to my account I'm stuck with waiting on customer service to research the matter which has been taking longer than the 48 hours I initially was told. Asked for an item I found online that said it was in stock in-store. Took one look at it and said "yea, we don't have that". You should absolutely come here if you have nothing to do but waste your time. This store is...horrendous, to put it lightly. I came in on a Friday knowing exactly what I wanted. A knit hat for my nephew. When I got to the second floor kids section, the line was all the way backed up to the escalator with one cashier. I thought, that's fine, there's only 15 people ahead of me. Granted, I know the weekends are busy and the experience was in December, but we didn't experience anything like this at any of the other stores we visited on Michigan Ave and downtown. Anyway, I figured we'd wait 10 minutes tops. We were in this line for a HALF HOUR. These employees have zero respect and absolutely no sense of urgency. They literally work backwards, not slow motion. When I finally get to check out my one hat, I was completing payment when the employee said "wait, no! Hit cancel hit X, cancel". I'm thinking oh my gosh, what happened?? Especially since the payment went through quickly. I asked the employee what's going on because she just ended up giving me my hat and receipt as if nothing happened. She said "I was trying to take the sensor off". So what that told me is she was so upset it only took a total of six seconds to check me out. She was so upset she had to continue ringing up customers who have also waited 30 or so minutes in line. I wasn't even shocked at this point, grabbed my hat and left. Their corporate office needs to get here and figure things out. I've heard awful things about this company anyway. If the hat wasn't on a Christmas list, I'd never step foot here. They need to just get rid of Zara altogether but I'm terrified that these employees will spread their laziness at a favorite store of mine. Shopping with my wife and daughter while they buy allot of clothes and there is no place to sit so sat on a sturdy piece of display furniture. A sales person told me in an unfriendly tone that I cant sit there. I asked if there was anywhere to sit as I looked and didn't see any and her response was no with a total lack of care/empathy. If I could give zero stars I would. I haven't been in Zara in a few years because the service is poor. No exception today. They had been open for 1 hour and I waited 30 minutes to get into the fitting room. Used gum stuck on mirrors, poor lighting and dirty. I went in today for an exchange/return and the cashier was extremely rude. She couldn't help me with the exchange and pointed to the fitting room for me check if they had it in store. There was a huge line so I went to an associate who had a scanner for help. For men, your choice is so small, it is scary, unless you want to look like a Midwest man who just discovered fashion and enjoy the metro style, the go for that. Michigan Avenue store is extremely crowded, jammed with merchandise and lines are very long. I bought three items, washed them and they now might fit a 7 year old. Cheap fabric and cheap prices. Things that you can wear once and then have to throw away because if you wash them they will shrink. Don't be lured by the high style. In the end you will have an empty closet. read more

The reviews are definitely a reflection of this store. I went here a few days ago. Walked in and was confronted with a lot of chaos. The clothes are unorganized around the store and there is not a clear section based on the type of attire you're looking for (ex: sundresses and work suits were in the same section). The fitting rooms were STILL closed because of COVID restrictions but that doesn't stop this store from allowing a line of 30 people to pile together in line at checkout. It goes without being said that our wait time was about 20 minutes to buy a couple items. The manager had her mask off her face when she spoke and pulled it back to when she was not speaking too customers. Logic? Zara retail stores are hard to come by and in a large city like Chicago, I suspect this is the only reason it is staying afloat. read more

I first discovered Zara when spending a summer in NY back in '00...wow, that makes me sound old! Yikes. I was a huge fan of their sophisticated styles at inexpensive prices. However, I was NOT such a fan of having to go up a size or two because of their slim European fit clothing. Now that I think about it the drinks until 4am and nightly slices of NY pizza topped with baked ziti (mmm) may have had something to do with the size problem. Since then I've visited Zara in other cities and haven't been overly impressed...as my age increases my taste seems to get more expensive. When everyone was jumping for joy that Chicago finally got a Zara of their own I didn't see the big deal....and avoided the lines/crowds. When shopping along Mich Ave the other day I decided it was time to check out the new Zara, especially since it didn't look overly crowded. And whoa- this place is huge! I spied some really cute stuff on the 1st floor (spring coats, blazers, etc), but the 2nd floor was a bit messy and H&Mish for my taste. The prices are still pretty good (a bit higher than Forever 21, H&M). I don't think I doubt I'll make this a frequent stop, but may stop in to browse every so often. Zara needs to communicate their online policies with the local stores. I ordered a coat online and it's too big. I called and chatted with Zara's customer support to see if I can exchange the size at the actual store in Chicago vs exchanging it online. I was told "yes" that I can make my exchange at the store. I've also posted a screen shot of Zara's online exchange policy. Ok. So, I take an Uber downtown after work (so you know it cost me) and attempt to exchange my item just to be told that they're unable to process an exchange in the store for online purchases. The cashier was very rude and lacked basic empathy. I returned the item and was told it takes 3-5 business days for me to receive the return payment. By this time, I'm extremely annoyed. To add salt to my wounds, the rude cashier tells me that I need to throw my box out on the street. Mind you, this box contains my full name and address, yet the store wants to to put my box in a City of Chicago public trash can on Michigan Ave. at this point I'm deciding never to shop at Zara again.
