I was referred by a friend to this place. It's located corner of Kokea Street and Dillingham Blvd, next to the canal. Can't miss it, big lettering in front. When I walked in, I was greeted by almost everyone working there, luckily for me, I had an appointment with James. As usual I had procrastinated doing my taxes, cause I am always busy. James promised to do, two years of my tax return, by Friday. I had left it behind, cause I had to run errands. He also said that if he had questions, he'll give me a call. Anyway, came Friday he called me and said my taxes was done. I was happy. And a big weight lifted off my shoulders. Lesson learned is stop procrastinating and do your taxes asap, before April 6 deadline. Highly recommend place, for all your tax... federal taxes and state taxes, of GE taxes. read more

Her initial return (draft) was fine but when I needed her to make a minor correction, a NOVICE named "ED CHU" took over and revised the entire return during my initial advisor's absence, without my consent. When i demanded the initial return done by the master advisor back, he ignored my request and sat on my return for a month. Unprofessional, unknowledgeable, lazy and simply incompetent. I'd give this place a zero star for wasting my time and energy dealing with this moron. You want to pay premium for unsolicited, false, inexperienced jerk's service, this is the place. read more

I have faced many problems through this tax service and instead of helping, the workers and management were belittling. They were not proactive in helping with the problems THEY WERE CREATING. Disgusting service, don't even think it should be called a "service." 10/10 would NOT recommend and never going back. Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Nina Pangelina was very belittling and created many problems. She got the routing number wrong and in turn made the wait 3 months longer. She was not proactive and was no help. I continuously had to come down and check up on things and I was the one who found the problem, not her. 100% would NOT recommend this place. Management was no help as well. The check finally came in the mail and when I went to cash it the bank told me it was a faulty check. This was also confirmed by the manager at H&R Block when I went to bring it to their attention. I hope someone looks into this because this is absolutely unacceptable. My family and I have been going to h&r block for years... never have I ever had a bad experience until this year. I got a new job last year as a flight attendant. Knowing that flight attendants do taxes a bit differently, my parents and I decided to let the person who usually does our taxes know ahead of time. She said she'll look into it and research the differences.. great, I was happy I didn't have to stress over it. However, she wasn't prepared, and had to talk to her supervisor MULTIPLE times.. for advice, questions, whatever. Worst part of it? I could hear EVERYTHING they were talking about.. what did I hear? The SUPERVISOR MOCKING me, teasing me, laughing at my information, assuming that I'm lying about my information! Saying I don't live in hawaii??? Then why the heck am I paying taxes in hawaii? Why is my address in hawaii? Why do I have a hawaii license? Why do I have a hawaii state ID? This was my first year paying someone to do my taxes. Usually my father helps me, but as I moved away for college I decided to give h&r block a try. They were very courteous and professional from taking the appointment to the actual appointment. They were also very understanding when I had to reschedule for a later time. I walked in to their office about 25 minutes early for my appointment and they took me soon after. The lady who helped me was named Nina I believe. I liked her she was really nice. The price was a bit higher than I had anticipated, but i didn't really know what to expect in the first place. Great service. I would go back again. read more

Not a good experience at this location. I set an appointment several weeks ago. I have been sitting in the lobby for over an hour past my appointment time. I have seen them take SIX walk ins before me. The receptionist refuses to let me switch to walk in status and I'm forced to continue to wait as everyone who didn't make an appointment continues to be helped. The tax preparers are incompetent (all of the employees) and rude (Nina). I decide to use a tax preparation service because I had already received an extension in order to qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion and wanted a tax preparation expert to help me file my taxes because it was out of the norm for me. I filed the extension on IRS Form 2350 in order to meet the physical presence test since I worked overseas for almost half the tax year. The IRS approved it. The first problem came about three hours after I made my appointment; I received a call telling me that they double booked and was requested to change my appointment time by one hour. If this had been the worst of it then it would be no big deal, but it was not. On appointment day (13 August 2019) I showed up about 10 minutes early and had to wait about three minutes - so far not bad. Then I meet Nina, as I am handing my documents and explaining the tax service that I need she tells me that it does not make sense and that I cannot do that. After I provided Nina documentation from the IRS website explaining that I could do that she refused to look at it and just repeated that I cannot do that. She left the desk and went to talk to someone else and then came back and said yeah you cannot do that. I then tried to provide her the specific tax law, but that did not matter to her, she refused to look at it and she just kept repeating that you cannot do that. I am not confident that this H&R Block Office can provide any tax services other than a simple 1040EZ, however I would not use this service, solely because the employees are extremely rude. I missed out on two hours of paid work to make this appointment and did nothing but waste my time. read more

Extremely disappointed with the operations at the Windward Mall Branch. [This is not a criticism of the tax preparer who was cordial.] Most of my time was spent waiting for a non-functional computer to boot up; re-boot and continuously re-boot. It took 15 minutes to even start the process (I timed it on my watch). Majority of my appointment was waiting for the computer AND the printer AND the payment system to work. The tax preparer had to call on other staff members for assistance on several occasions. What could have been easily completed in a few minutes was unnecessarily prolonged due to antiquated equipment which is quite alarming that a national tax prep company is not utilizing the most updated programs/equipment. But the worst was to come. After finally completing the process, I was presented with my fee charges which amounted to $530! Quite a shock! This was almost double of what I was charged last year by a different tax preparation company. There was very little difference/changes in my tax returns for 2018 from 2017 so I assume that the fees would be comparable. What H&R Block charged seems quite excessive. Then I had to wait again for their computer to work to even accept my credit card. Had to run the card several different times because of malfunction by their computer. I would definitely NOT recommend anyone to seek their services. I should have checked on Yelp before going to H&R Block. Lesson learned. read more

My husband and I always file our tax returns with H&R block. The consultant is always asking me to get a state ID when I already have a Green card with a picture on it. I google it and found out that it is not compulsory to have a state ID. The consultant was trying to tax me on my 401k every year even before I withdraw it. Hence she would be taxing me twice if i would withdraw my 401K. She was trying to penalize me for not having insurance coverage for 3 months as I had started with a new job. She said I should have asked for government free insurance for the 3 months. But why should I asked for government free insurance for 3 months when I know my company was going to provide me with health insurance after my 3 months probation. My husband and I claim zero for every pay check yet this consultant is always trying very very hard to make us pay more money instead of trying to help us to get a tax return. read more
