Definitely 1 star or NONE... Avoid the H&R Block's MdR office!! It's a disaster. Not only do they double book, they are unprofessional, rude and extremely unorganized. H&R Block's has been doing my taxes for over 12 years (Culver Center in C.C. and Playa del Rey office). I was very happy with them until 2 yrs ago when I was sent to the MDR office and getting my taxes done has been a complete disaster. 5 appointments scheduled to receive 1 phone call from my tax pro... Appts being rescheduled constantly, cancelled, because they overbooked... Since January I have been trying to get my taxes done - 2 months, and the MdR office has not been capable. Had a terrible experience in this office because of Jane Abbott. Jane ended up trying to get me to file with her instead of my original tax preparer in the middle of my appointment with them. Jane aggressively belittled her coworker in front of me after calling the manager Francisco on her, to try to get me as a customer. Jane asked me to see my w-2 while my tax preparer was still working with me, and basically said she doesn't think my tax preparer knows what she's doing and that she thinks I would be happier doing my taxes with her. I let Jane know that she was making me extremely uncomfortable the way that she came over out of nowhere and tried to step in. I began having a mild panic attack because I was so confused why she was pressuring me so much. Instead of apologizing for making me uncomfortable, and for disrespecting her coworker, she instead asked me to file right away knowing I didn't have all of my tax documents. I told her I didn't have the rest of the documents I needed, or my expenses records. She told me I didn't need them and I could just file. This made me realize Jane did not care to report my taxes accurately or legally, and she just wanted me to file so she could steal me as a customer and get commission. BEWARE of working with Jane if you go to this location. If she was willing to not only try to steal me as a customer, but to also INNACURATELY file my taxes, there is no saying how many people's taxes she has done incompletely or innaccurately just to get some commission. This also means that Jane is willing to file my taxes without ensuring that I get my deductions. My original tax preparer, (who was SO PLEASANT/professional even while this situation was going on, she handled herself so well. I feel terrible that our time was interrupted the way it was - I really would have liked to work with her) had let me know that if I brought my expenses, I could potentially pay less in taxes. This is my first year as a self employed person so I was happy to be aware of this, but when Jane stepped in and told me to just file without my expenses "today" I knew then and there she absolutely did not care about my financial interests or well-being. I even re-iterated that I didn't have the rest of my documents or expenses with me, and she INSISTED that I "file today" without them! Jane just wanted me to file with her and not file my 1099 or deduct my expenses so I could quickly get in, get out and she could get paid. I feel bad for anyone in this office who has to work with her. It's just unfortunate. Myself and my boyfriend will not be filing with this office due to the behavior Jane has exhibited today. Jane is a liability and a lawsuit waiting to happen, and it is shameful that she is able to represent H&R block by conducting business in this way. read more

I'm a long time block customer, my prior tax specialist moved away so for the last 2 years I believe worked with Kimberly. The 1st year was good no issues on how she prepared. For year 2020 I was not given a copy. I needed my tax information and it was not on my account. All of my prior years was under my block. I called and emailed SEVERAL TIMES, to this date Kimberly has not reached out to see if I need help. I contacted H&R Block several had 3 case numbers and was transferred, left on hold for hours! It's remarkably that no one knew how to fix this! I was amazed by the lack of concern, professionalism or just a courtesy. This entire issue made the H&at block look incompetent. She is now claiming that the IRS responded that there was identity theft linked to my account, which would obviously be quite worrying, when in actuality it seems she has accidentally done a duplicate filing online in addition to the paper filing that she already processed. Had an issue with 2013, H&R Block is one of the companies who can accommodate me (I also called in to speak with someone who checked and confirmed). I get there 10 minutes early, I waited for the tax preparer another 10 minutes. So I show him that I would not have had to pay taxes except for one of the companies I worked with Mis-Coded me as 1099 instead of reimbursement. I then asked for an estimate of fees, he read the laminated price sheet and estimated $200.00 plus the state of $60 and baring anything else under $300.00 I agreed on the spot and we started the process. He did not know the software, it took him over 2 hours to input the information for 4 vendors... wow, I was ready to jump out of my skin. When it was over he asked for $710.00 Yes you read that right, just a smidgen over $300 I told him I was not paying him over $700, he should call his manager and negotiate. They ended up giving me a small discount, it was a nightmare. If the IRS wasn't so persistent I would have left without my taxes.. No Happy at all.. read more

The front desk lady is super nice, that's about it! I had jp do my taxes. I thought he knew what he was talking about. He put my tax return on the emerald card and told me that THAT was the best choice. I can't get my money off that card now. He was NO help trying to get that money transferred. I have been going to Jane Abbott for about the last five years (and the office itself for a few years even beyond that) and have been very happy each year with her expertise, her efficiency, her speed, her quick mind, her great memory, and her incredible friendliness. The entire office staff has also been friendly and efficient. I'm so surprised by the negative reviews, but it sounds like some bitterness about results, which I doubt are the blame of H&R Block (though I never put much stock in reviews full of spelling and grammatical errors). In any case, I just had my taxes done tonight, and obviously there were no issues, because both the federal and state returns were accepted within an hour of my return home, yet another confirmation of Jane's skill and expertise. read more
