Last week my Granddaughter called and asked if I could go with her to the car dealership to have her car serviced. She has had trouble with the dealership in the past. I live in San Clemente and she lives in La Verne which is about 75 miles away for me, no problem I was at her home @ 8am. I explained to her that I used to have my vehicle serviced at H Car Repair and should give them a try. Ok Grandpa let's go she stated, about 7 minutes away arrived and I let her explain what service she needed and any problems she is experiencing. A very proud Grandpa as she spoke with the owner-manager of the shop. She and Dave agreed to have the work completed. So she and I went to have breakfast and enjoy each other's company which was wonderful to catch up. A couple of hours later her vehicle is ready, Dave brought in the parts replaced into the lobby showing my granddaughter and explaining in detail the process and cost. Recently, I went back to Dave for the second time. The first visit was for a starter replacement, and he got the job done overnight for less than $300. So far, the starter is starting as required, and I'm happy with his work. This time around, I had some ignition trouble that the AAA locksmith couldn't fix, so I took it to Dave. Not being able to start the car when everything else is working fine - battery, starter, engine, fuel system, etc - is frustrating AF. It was a more expensive service than the starter, but if you've ever had to have a key or fob replaced at the dealer or a locksmith, then you know that game is rigged in their favor. Dave did not BS me or make false promises. He took his time to come back with his diagnosis. He did the job and had me behind the wheel quicker than expected. Two weeks have passed, and there are no problems with the ignition or key. Dave and H Car Repair are my current go-to for Toyota or Honda repairs. Went in recently with some warning lights on my civic SI after I replaced the starter myself. I didn't have a routine mechanic. Dave was so knowledgeable he knew they just needed to be reset. Except my TPMS light, that one he said was probably just a sensor and if I could just ignore it then it's not hurting the car at all. He recommended i do it when I get new tires to save cash. I asked if I needed to do anything to it for preventative maintenance and after giving him every opportunity to charge me for something, he didn't. Because it didn't need anything. That's what you want in a mechanic, somebody who knows what your car needs and will honestly relay that info to you for a fair price. I called for a quote on an oil change and maintenance check up with Dave and was quoted over the phone. I was ok with the price so decided to go there and this is when everything went down hill. when I got there no one greeted me. I just stood there waiting. Made eye contact with a guy but he just turned away. after about 5 mins some guy came up to me and asked me why i was here and i proceeded to tell him about our phone conversation. Months ago, immediately after getting my front tire replaced at the adjacent American Tire Depot, the TPMS indicator on my dash wouldn't go away. Despite going back to ATD three times, they couldn't resolve the issue. They suggested I visit H Car, which specializes in Hondas. I headed over and was warmly greeted by Dave. After explaining the situation, Dave used a handheld device to inspect my car, to which he suspected a weak battery in my left rear tire might be the cause, but turned off the indicator on my dashboard for me. He let me know that if the light came back on, I should visit a tire shop to have the battery replaced. Dave didn't charge me, and I was immensely grateful for his assistance. Unlike my previous visits to ATD, which proved unsuccessful, my experience at H Car was quick, and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. To my delight, the TPMS light hasn't come on since I returned home. From here on out, Dave will be my go-to person for any car issues! read more

Had an appoint set up with Dave the owner for 2:30 pm. When I arrived he said he had no knowledge of the appointment. Called the company and they sent me the voice recording where he confirmed his first and last name for the appointment. I replayed it to him and he says yes that's me, but does not remember setting an appoint. Asked him this appointment was set yesterday and you don't remember? Clearing he was lying. Wouldn't never recommend anyone to do business with someone who would blantaly lie. Find a different shop that has an owner that will at least be honest. read more

Add me to the list of H Car and Dave fans! It's amazing: I called at 11:30am, brought the car right over, and some MAJOR REPAIRS were done by 3pm. I'd gone to the dealership for a regular maintenance and they told me the car needed about five things that added up to more than it's worth. Well, that warranted a second opinion and estimate so I looked up H Car. Dave told me that yes, I needed four of those things but not the fifth, and by the way this car should get 90K more miles on it before we're done. The total bill was less than 25% of what the dealership had quoted. YAY DAVE! (I'm going to call the dealership and ask about the thing they said was broken and Dave said was practically new -- maybe they accidentally tacked a different customer's repair on my estimate? This review is a little late, being that I visited this repair shop this past Sat. I can confirm that the past reviews about this being an honest mechanic ship are not exaggerated! I took my 08 Honda Civic in because it had a loose glass driver side mirror. I was helped by Anthony, and he ended up providing me great service! After taking the time to inspect my mirror, he then checked to see if the part I had was available at the Montclair Honda center. After giving me a quote for the part and labor, he then admitted that I could also order and install the part myself. Wow, very few mechanics are that honest!! I was quite impressed! And the exceptional service and generosity didn't stop there. When I told Anthony about my loose mirror, I also mentioned that my driver side brake light was out. I told him that I would also be interested in throwing that in along with the work I wanted done on my mirror. After I decided to order a new mirror and install it myself, Anthony offered to change my brake light for free!! Something he definitely didn't have to do. Needless to say, I was blown away!! Even though I didn't get any work done on my car that day, the character of this mechanic shope was revealed. I was experiencing intermittent starting problems with a 2013 Honda Accord with push button start. I had a the car examined by a Montclair area Honda dealership and they found no problem. However, the problem got worse and worse (by the day) to the point I had to try over 10 times to start the vehicle. Finally got the car started and took it to H Car repair. Dave immediately said it was the starter. After a few hours, the job is done and no starter issues since. Dave and his crew know their stuff. Just came back here for the 3rd time. They had done some work on my last Honda. I recently bought a new one and so far had to do just a couple of oil changes, so I did it at the dealership (don't ask why...I'm kicking myself for it now). Last night I had a service code come on and I called the dealership this morning and they quoted me $229 and could not tell me how many hours it would take since I didn't have an appointment. I remember bringing my previous car to H and I called them. I was literally in and out within half and hour and paid less than half of what the dealership quoted me. This review is way overdue. After going to a number of different car shops that charged me crazy amounts without fixing the the problem ( car alarm would go off randomly, manual lock wouldn't work on car door side, 3rd party alarm wouldn't work) a friend from church recommended this place and to ask for Dave. I don't know anything about cars so I'm an easy target to take advantage of and Dave was to the point charged me more than fairly and fixed my problem with no funny business.
