When I heard that H Mart was going to occupy Giant's old spot, I was pleased. In fact, my first thought (weirdly enough) was that now I had a nearby spot where I could get calabaza (West Indian pumpkin). It was a while before we got here but when the day came that I needed some calabaza, we headed over there. The produce section is huge---bigger than what Giant had but not very logically laid out. Thus, it took a minute or two before I found the calabaza. We took a brief look around and were impressed with the variety. A good portion of the store is devoted to Hispanic foods. Plus, there are Indian and Pakistani sections, with the rest being Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese foods. What we didn't like --- in just about every aisle were unopened boxes left in the middle of the floor. In one aisle was a box marked "fragile". Not only are these tripping hazards but if that box marked "fragile" had glass in it, someone could get cut---yikes! Also, I had a hankering for some Inca Kola---and there was none to be had---not in the soda aisle, nor the refrigerated soda cases and even weirder, none in the aisle marked "foods from Peru" (now that was strange!) Check out was easy as the place wasn't very busy on a weekday afternoon. I think I will only return when I need more calabaza, however :) read more

Wow!!!! I haven't stepped foot in HMart for over a month in summer and came back to a fully new freezer area (all lower kinds instead of upright), marinated bbq meat zone and fresh seafood. It's amazing! I i can't wait to get more of my groceries here now. This upgrade really looks good! read more

First time to this H Mart. It is almost 50% Hispanic/Latino vs. Korean food. It was pretty clean and the bakery area in the back had these delicious baked huge square puff pastries with marshmallow-y white filling....OMG! My kids and I loved them. I was really here for the Asian stuff, so in this sense it did not have all the items I was looking for that the other H Mart I have been to such as the food gallery that the one in Fairfax, VA has. read more

I had been waiting for H Mart to open here and didn't realize it would happen so soon! Today was their grand opening (chaotic as expected) and they had pretty good deals plus some freebies. I can't complain about that. This replaced the old Giant grocery store, and the H Mart folks didn't make too many changes to the interior. There's more produce and food items on the store floor which leads to less walking room, but that's common with international grocery stores. There was a good selection of fresh food items. The only thing I wished there was more of was Asian snacks. I'll plan to come back soon when it is less crowded. read more

I was expecting mainly Korean products having heard about this chain from others, but I was pleasantly surprised to find staples from lots of countries, including Peru and Mexico as well as Thailand and China. They have a large variety of exotic fruits, even durian and banana leaves. They also have a lot of Mexican spices and pretty well priced meats and fish. Fish comes whole, if you need that for a dish. Their bakery has mostly Mexican fare, pastels and fancy tres leches cakes, for example. They have nice face masks and random kitchen items such as tea sets. Some reviews are disappointed that it's not just Korean, but I like the variety as I can pick up most things I need for the week, regardless of what kind of cuisine I'm making. read more

I have visited this H Mart while visiting my friends. It's a great place for grocery and take-outs. For grocery, it has a wide variety of food ranging from Hispanic food, Asian food including Indian food and general American food. It has a good quality of fruits and vegetables. For the take-outs, there are ready made foods, Hispanic bakery, and a Korean restaurant. Definitely check this place out. read more

My wife and I visited this H Mart a few months ago. We paid for our food, but when we got home we saw that we were charged for something we hadn't bought. Since it was about 2 or 3 dollars, we saw it was more expensive to make it there than to get our money back. Then, last week we went there again to buy some other items. When we got to the register, an employee named Veronica, tried to charge us twice for the same item. We showed her the item had already been charged; however, she kept on trying to charge us. Finally, she gave us our ticket. She didn't even looked at us. She acted very strange. Be on alert if you buy there, check your items and the receipt. read more

Beware of produce and fruits in pre pack packaging. I am getting fed up with rotten items inside plastic wraps and hard plastic, only discovered after getting home. Very deceiving. Only buy items in the open that you can inspect and select FB individually. The vegetable section has gone downhill in the last few months. Was excited for this Hmart opening up. Good selection of food typical of other Hmarts. My issue with this place is the customer service and unethical behavior if their staff. They have a meat bar, Long buffet style table with different types of raw meat you can get and pay by the pound. There was one lady there giving out samples of kalbi which tasted good. I asked if she could help me get some from the bar and she points to the 5 containers with steak sitting at her table. I touched the containers and they were warm, I didn't want warm steak containers that had been out for god knows how long so I asked to get fresh prices from the bar. She helps me get fresh pieces from the bar, goes to the weight station to add the price sticker. I'm watching her the whole time but still standing far away down by the meat and see her grab the container with the warm meat off her table and come back with it to give it to me. No thanks lady you aren't giving me steak full of bacteria. The next day I had to go back because I forgot some sweet and sour sauce. I grabbed one bottle and went to the registers. It was Christmas Eve so the lines were very long and their cashiers still aren't very good and don't know prices or scan numbers so they are very slow as well. There is no express line or self checkout. Since I had one item and there were 5 people standing there doing nothing at the customer service desk I went and asked if I could checkout there with my one bottle of sweet and sour. It was like I asked them for their ssn they all looked at me at once yelling for me to go wait in line in a rude manner. Most of the groceries that I'm looking for are here and the staff are friendly. The veggies and fruits are fresh most of the time. I like their meat section compared to other grocery stores around the area. They also have prepared food and you can just grab and go if you don't have time to cook. Don't buy the fried tilapia though it's very salty. But overall I like the store. read more

Store is clean, organized, and well stocked. However, a couple of things I purchased there were freezer burned and stale. I purchased a bag of frozen samosas and most of the pieces had ice attached to it. I also purchased some pre-package wasabi peas which I found in the produce section located with the prepackaged nuts and dry fruits. Those were stale! Buyer beware! read more

Hmart is usually my goto place for Asian groceries but this store is disappointing. First off this place is bloody ancient. You would think they would renovate it, but no it still the same old giant interior. Also they don't have a cafeteria FYI. This place is very disorganized. They place stuff in random aisles and stack up the stuff in the middle so that you cannot even move through the aisle unless you push all the way far right where they left you an opening. Lazy and rude staff. Was buying some groceries and this employee was just being so passive aggressive and hovering behind me instead of taking an alternate route. I was there first but I had to make way for him because he wasn't moving and just standing there what a creep. Because stuff are also so cramped,there's also no space once one person with a cart is there. Staff doesn't want to answer your questions, this woman literally ran away from me when I wanted to turn and ask her something. And when she incorrectly charged me something, instead of physically going there to verify the price, she kept arguing with me saying I'm wrong and would not budge. She kept speaking with all the other free associates and none of them would move even though they were doing absolutely nothing. Lack of variety in products. They don't sell Asian products that other Hmart and Asian groceries sells such as Asian snacks, candy, and drinks. And it's not even the rare ones- not even the basic ones found virtually in any store. Great produce, good assortment of organic mushrooms. Bought live lobsters there twice. First time the lobsters were great and a good price. Second time, not so good, actually they were rotten. Went back the next day and they refunded the cost of the lobsters as well as refunding my prior week's purchase of some not so good scallops. The refund was hassle free (I did have receipts) and was impressed that the young man at the customer service desk offered the refund of the scallops. I was not expecting that, I brought up the issue with the scallops as an fyi. I will not be buying any more shellfish from them, but like the store overall. read more

I'm used to the clean friendly locations in centreville and fairfax but there is ABSOLUTELY no customer service or taking accountability for their faults. No manager around to escalate what so ever. Everyone uses the excuse that they came back from break. Products are always mislabeled so you end up getting charged more, and when you complain, they put the blame on the customer saying it was picked off the floor and wrongly placed.
