This place is awesome. My husband and I discovered it totally accidentally, and were thrilled that we had. He is Indian, and I am part-Bulgarian and part-Arab, so we had a lot of fun finding foods from each of our cultures here. Check out the melt-in-your mouth dates and bulgarian feta in the counter up front. And while we found the butcher in the back to utilize slightly unclean practices (throwing different types of meat on top of the scale without any paper or plastic barrier), once we cooked the mutton we obtained, we found it to be totally worth it. read more

Got the cut and cubed veal from the meat market. It was pricey per pound, but I decided "what the heck" it's already been cleaned , cut and packed. When I got home, I realized only the visible pieces under the plastic wrap packing were cuts of meat. Mostly everything underneath was bone chunks, cartilage and connective tissue. MAGGOTS! Nothing is more disgusting then finding several maggots in a bag of almonds. It makes sense seeing others on yelp having seen maggots in bags of nuts and raisins and no expiration dates on any of their stuff. They keep things forever until they are sold, this place is sick, you get ripped off with high prices and what do you get? You find maggots in your food, no thanks ill take my business elsewhere. Just tried the freshly made falafel from the back takeout and bakery of Madina Market. The falafel was crispy but not greasy with a great taste. The fresh veggies and sauce that came on the side give a nice freshness and extra flavor to it. Recommend this along with the beef shawarma and eggplant wrap. Madina market used to be my first go to for me for meat, but lately I don't even feel like going there for that or dry goods anymore. What's shocking is how much the staff didn't care when I mentioned to them that their food in the freezers were defrosting. Meat products and everything! The lady just casually said, "the owners turn it all off at night." What?! That's food people are buying to eat!!! That's extremely unsafe. Plus, when I ask for chicken and goat at the counter, I expect gloves to be changed between meat types and for them not to use the same bone saw for chicken and red meats. It's a cross contamination festival waiting to happen. They have an amazing selection of foods and yes, the store is much cleaner now than it used to be, but they need to get more modernised and up their cleaning standards. read more

Clean, organized, great variety, and competitive pricing. I visited the store to confirm the raving reviews I often get from friends and family-- let's just they have everything and more. The store manager introduced me to their new menu item (shawarma), they offer both chicken and beef. I tried the chicken shawarma which has its own unique flavor and it set itself apart from your ordinary shawarma. My family and I shop here occasionally not often. This store is large compared to the ones in the area for Halal meat and middle eastern grocery store. The products are overpriced and many food items do not have an expiry date. I mean for safety and health reasons, the expiry date should be on the product. This place used to be my favorite 8 years ago. They used to have things you needed plus available anytime of the day. Now they discontinued Bolani, anytime you go there is no wheat bread and the worst of all the meat section is catastrophic! They don't sell you the meat you want but what they want to sell. I went today to get meat and half of lamb is around 5lb and I don't have a big family to buy that I only wanted half of that. However the butcher told me that he can not cut the leg in another half. I don't understand their concept. They basically wanna sell you what they want to sell. As a customer your wish mean nothing. I tried to talk to this guy who seemed to run the place( tall and heavy man) I don't think he is the owner. He was not a help either, he didn't even said sorry or anything. I was surprised when some body here disrespected the old man who serves in the meat section at market. actually this man is very helpful and he respects every body who walks in in that area. me and my husband often commented that he always has one sentence every time "NO PROBLEM" that is what he would often say to you. actually he is the one who makes us go there and he doesn't even know us may be only by looking at faces and knowing their regular customers. Located in Herndon's K-Mart Shopping Center, whose shops collectively represent more nationalities than the United Nations. Lots of dry goods here. Artwork, hookahs, books. But this place primarily stocks food. Mostly packaged, but it looks like there is a halal butcher in the back and there are plenty of dairy products in the refrigerators. Nice tea selection, takes up an entire aisle. Not only Arab brands but also English brands that sell different blends in the U.S. like Twinings and Tetley. I found a box of Alwazah black tea that I have been searching for after an Egyptian co-worker recommended it. I was also able to find a bottle of Pakola, which is hard to come by in these parts. All-in-all, this seems to be a proper Arab market. Definitely worth a look. read more

What an unbelievably unprofessional place. You sometimes find what you're looking for but most of the time they're out. The bakery is like a sheikhdom. If you know the naker you might be able to place an order but most of the time they don't even answer the phone at all. When they do, they tell you to call back tomorrow. I've only been able to place orders 25% of the time. It's as if I'm a hostile entity trying to riddle them on purpose and all I want is to order somehing they should have anyway. Madina Market is a good place to get Middle Eastern spices, groceries, and Halal meats. But let's keep it real, it has a long way before it becomes a Super Greenland Market (like that in Detroit). My sense is that they need more square footage and they definitely need to get newer supermarket appliances - you can tell they keep it cheap in buying older refrigeration equipment that hasn't been used in over a decade. The place can be a mess and it can be rather dirty and smelly - not exactly what I like to be associating with food. However, I understand that these things take time. The good news is that Madina Market is a thriving business and my expectation is that that sooner, rather than later, the owner will begin to consider obtaining larger real estate and operating a smoother and cleaner grocery store. read more

This is not your usual clean and organized American Grocery Store! Be aware. But if you want to find some bargains and do not mind a little messy this is the place to go for spices, rice, tahini sauce or anything Asian, Eastern. I have got tahini sauce for a third of the price of the regular grocery store. They also have fresh baked Pita bread and canned hummus for $1.20. When you walk in sales person does not ask you if they can help, you need to hunt them down, but once you do they are helpful. read more

I am not an expert on halal in general. But I hit a lot of ethnic groceries and this one is a winner in my book. It's large and it covers a lot of different types of stuff. There's arabic books and religious items, a great selection of teas, coffees, snacks, all that great stuff, and a huge variety of staples for cooking, a neat-looking bulk spice area, a bakery/prepared food area, a butcher counter, some reasonable-looking produce. I stopped in here to grab something to eat while my honey was noodling around at a nearby cell phone place. Walked out with some little samosas and falafel patties, both excellent. Also some mamool date cookies which drew exclamations of happiness from my honey, who is of Lebanese extraction. It was clean and the aisles were nice and wide. I'll be back soon. read more

Everything about this store is what you would expect, which is why their prices aren't Walmart level. If you want fresh and amazing bread, go here. develop that relationship with the baker and eat fresh and authentic naan. Myself and my friends and family members were regular visitors of Fair Price Halal Market on Grants Street. We have decided NEVER to go there anymore because of raised prices, deterioration in meat products and RUDE ATTITUDE OF THE OWNER although the employees are well mannered. But the owner has no customer service manners. Acts as if he is God Almighty. So, let him rot in his own stew. Hope you and your employees especially in the meat section are courteous. Because there, the customers have to rely on their service rather than pick up items themselves. Nobody likes to give business and not be respected for it. Small businesses flourish if it is remembered that customers buy the product and the owner makes money because of it. So there is NO option but to be polite to customers. It does not cost anything and the owner/employees look good. We have abandoned Fair Price because of their rudeness and high prices for mediocre stuff. Dont disappoint us. The worst customer service ever seen. they have most middle east grocery ! first time been there to eat something, and ordered GYRO as their advertised said its halal meat and delicious I decided to eat GYRO, so I ordered and got the sandwich and paid 9.99$ which is high price for that food, but when I got home and tried to eat it, nothing was the same as picture, RAW meat ( even not GYRO MEAT , something like kabob meat) with red at the middle and little bloody, smell awful no sauce just a little onion and lettuce and tomato! It ended up as trash! DON'T Buy FOOD over there its a junk and trash! So I wasted my money and called them and lady didn't accept that is their fault and said no that is the way they make it and more excuse........ but I had gyro in many places never been like this! My family came here for the first time yesterday. The location is very convenient and they have a huge selection of middle eastern and other ethnic foods, including Bangladeshi, Indian, and Ethiopian. We took my mother in law there to get some traditional turkish foods - yufka, peynir and Turkish cookies. We thought it was clean and relatively well organized. We will return several times a month for staples like cheese and olives for sure. So happy to find this place! read more

The last time I swing by this market, was indeed the last! The nice work the owners do at the register, is disastrously undone by the "gentlemen" they have working the meat counter. The lack of respect for females is appauling. During my last visit, when I walked to the meat counter, there was one Brother waiting for service while another one was being taken care of. When my turn came, the "person" working the counter very readily jum me over for a man that had just walken in. After he finished with the man in question, he turned to the other man that walked in, before I had to walk out in frustration. Right there and then I promised I will never, ever buy at this market. My money is as green as anybody else's, and I deserve the same respect afforded to anybody else. read more
