I bought some very expensive mangosteens last Friday and when I opened one up on monday they were rotten inside. Thinking that happens sometimes I tried opening another one on tuesday and again they were rotten inside. Now I'm on my third and they don't look great either. Skin was tough to break open which is not normal for mangosteens. Called the store and they would not be willing to refund citing their 24 hrs policy. But I can bet you that their batch of mangosteens are all rotten inside Sorry they just lost a customer who drove the distance to visit their store. Bad customer service. Not going back to rotten fruits which I paid a premium for. $16.81 for 10 read more

I come here almost every week it seems! I love their Korean beef stew! And for the price $8.99 it's soooo good and def not expensive. Sometimes it tends to get full there and you end up having to sit next to strangers but it's totally normal. Their tables are set up just as if you were eating in Korea. Now I wish they have more side dishes but I guess for the price we can be too picky. The food is always fresh and hot and the rice is perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

As soon as you walk in, you want to walk right out. The fish smell from the back is HORRIBLE. Don't buy seafood from there, being in the food business, when seafood smells that bad....it is not fresh!!! Going further to the fridge selections of the store I was looking for noodles....there were packages that were already open and left in the fridge for days. I know this because I actually left and I came back three days later and that same package was still there open and getting all over all the other food. Gross. Place is dirty and unsanitary. If you think that "eating in" at a grocery store is weird, well, yeah it is a little bit. But who cares? The food here is fantastic! A bit pricey for a bowl of soup? Yeah, if that soup wasn't literally your entire meal. Here I am, the only white dude in line, standing there whilst sufficiently meeting their redhead quota for the month, staring at the list of items. I ordered the yukye jang. Let me explain my experience with the Korean language. I know that "Gangnam" is a place in Korea, thereby a Korean word. So that's it. Not surprisingly, and very much appreciated, the person behind the counter understood me when I said "thirteen". It's this understanding we've got with each other, divine, sheer luck, call it what you will. I say a number, and I magically get what I want. Don't make me explain it. My order was up and I took the bowl of piping hot delight directly to my table. The soup was amazing. The taste was so heavenly, it was like angels pissing in my mouth. Can I even write that? I just did! And it filled me up to boot. If you're a dainty eater, you may not be able to get it all down in one sitting, so best you figure out how leftovers work at this place, because you're going to want to take it home with you. very nice place if you're into Asian food, and they have a very vast selection. i could have easily spent hours in this store just to look at everything. They have a good looking produce section, a great selection of Asian beers and wines, and a HUGE ramen section. Just to name a few things. a good location too, since it is right by a few Korean and Japanese restaurants. With the gas prices it's only worth it for a big shopping trip, but I will be back! read more

Disappointed that last time I visited in early July 2019, there was no fresh meat selection and a very limited supply of frozen meats. Been here twice now. Quality of this store does not seem to be on par with other H Marts I've been to - particularly in Philly, LA, and NYC in terms of freshness and in variety. Dumpling wraps were frozen for prolonged period of time. Frozen meats looked old. Veggies seem like they've been sitting there for too long. Variety of Asian fruits were limited. I also did not see a fresh Japanese sashimi/sushi section. Hopefully this was just a one time hiccup. read more

I have visited the soup shop at the E-Mart more times thatn I can count, mostly because I shop at E-Mart too. It is aroud the corner from my work and I used to live in Japan, so I am always excited for Japanese food. The ramen has to be my favorite ($4.99), even though I love so many things. It is really close to genuine ramen and the noodles are soft without being mooshy. The #11, Spicy Pork was great and a great deal at $7.99 and the kimchi that comes with it was quite yummy. I cannot believe I did not add the seafood pancakes in my original review! You have to try the seafood pancake (#25). It is fluffy eggs with green onion, shrimp, and squid. For you Japanese food lovers out there it is a lot like okonomiyaki (just no cabbage). I like to add some okonomi sauce on top, which you can buy at the E-Mart the soup shop it in. You cannot beat the quality of the food for the super cheep price tag. Don't be intimidated by the pictures and numbers, that is very standard in countires like Japan or Korea. I was just dissappointed that there were no plastic examples of the food! :) Though I will warn that if you have a sensitive stomach I would skip the place all together, everything has a spicy kick to it. I think it's safe to say that this is the biggest Korean market in Michigan. You'll find most of the ingredients to cook Korean dishes. They offer special coupons and prices for Hmart members. Signing up for their membership program is free. You get points from every purchase and get a $10 store credit for $1000 purchase. It's a good store and carries most of the stuff I'm looking for. I just wish it was a bit cleaner and more organized. read more

4.5 stars Nice massive Asian store (they just expanded) that has all your oriental needs. I used to live in Texas where H-marts were plentiful so it was comforting to find there's one not too far from me. Recently came in here to buy Aloe Vera for a sun burnt friend. Price was reasonable and produce was fresh as usual. The cashier was friendly and I didn't have to stand in line! The food court also looks like it expanded since the last time i came in. Might check that out next time! Taking .5star off because they are not necessarily the cheapest. 168 Asian Mart is another nearby market I stop by instead when I don't want to go out of my way for H-Mart. read more

This place is awesome. Straight up, basic spicy tasty goodness. Simple - select your food, order it and they make. Pick it up from the counter when done, take it to a table and eat it. We had lunch here yesterday - well, if you can class 2:30pm eating as lunch. We ordered it, were told it would take about 10 minutes, so we went for a walk around the store, making plans of what to buy. When we returned, 3 out of the 4 orders were arriving at the counter. I had the spicy seafood noodles, he had spicy octopus (or squid?) stew, my son had bibimbop, daughter had stir-fried rice with shrimp. Mine was hot, tasty and had lots of squid, a whole shrimp and a clam, tender noodles, and a delicious broth. And it was huge!! His stew looked and tasted wonderful, red and spicy. The squid was cooked as it should be... soft! His came with rice and kimchi, mine and the little girl's also had kimchi. The boy's had rice and soup. And, of course, spicy paste. Portions were huge too. The kids had to get carry-out boxes to take half of what they got home. Us big people washed it down with tea, available free from the urn in the corner. The kids had some interesting bottled drinks from the fridge. While eating, we heard the sound of hammering in the background. We discovered it was a guy in the kitchen tenderizing the meat! Good - food cooked from scratch! We are fans. We will be back, with the pledge to try 4 different items from the 'menu'. After eating, we wandered through the store, and bought such goodies as ginseng tea, noodles, dumplings, plum wine.. and.. corn dogs (!) but not made with hot dogs, rather, fish sausage!!! I ticked "Has TV" ... and it did. Broadcasting what we think was Korean TV. My daughter wonder why there was a guy on the TV wearing a bumble bee costume. And I asked myself the same question. Really good place to grab some cheap and quick Korean food. They don't give an abundance of sides like other restaurants but this isn't really a restaurant and the prices can't be beat. You place your order at the counter and they will call you up when your food is ready. I recently had their Haemul (seafood) Jjajangmyun and it was delicious. This comes on a platter and it serves two people. The best part is to mix the rice with the sauce after you are done eating all the noodles. The seafood jjajangmyun for 2 only cost $16! It could easily feed 3 people since they give you rice. This isn't the best Korean food around but it's definitely delicious at an affordable price. Give it a try!!! read more

I was pumped, excited, driving like a mad woman......I just had to get to this beautiful, exciting mecca of glorious fresh offerings of seafood, fruits and veggies.....oh my heart......the parking oh my goodness really! That lot is just too small for a store of that size. And upon entering I could not tell if I was walking into Aldi or HMart. The entrance was not very clear. The vegetable/fruit/ and seafood area was quite fresh looking and smelling. I appreciated the English translations with the fruit/veggies and seafood. I wished there were a bit more of them throughout the store. I am happy that I already knew exactly what I wanted. There were items I had never seen before but many items that are available in my local Asian grocery store. It was not really all as exciting as I thought. And the eating area (restaurant) was teeny tiny. I really wanted to order some hot food. But when my daughter and I walked up, the patrons as well as the workers looked at us like...."please don't, please don't". So we just bought our items and left. Personally it is not worth that 32 minute ride. Next time, just go to your local Asian food mart. It will be less corporate and more personable. I am disappointed. This is not the typical H-mart if you're use to going to their stores. It's pretty small and very unkempt. The produce was not fresh and looked like everything was rotting. Can't say much for the fish area since I completely by-passed it. The meat however was very nicely displayed and was fresh. Don't go there for the produce - everything else is ok. But I'm sure you could find another Asian store with just as good products. read more

Wow! That is all I have to say. My first visit here consisted of me looking totally clueless as I kept glancing back and forth from my phone to the menu and back to my phone again. Yes, I totally had to use the Yelp reviews as a guide when ordering, since not all the pictures on the menu have descriptions. I settled on the SoonDubu - squid, scallops and mussels - Yelpers, thank you! The large bowl of red spicy soup was flavorful, hot and totally hit the spot. When I'm not in a soup mood, I opt for the spicy squid and rice dish. Another wow! $7.99 and I had some left to take home. (However, it was much better fresh and hot then when I had to reheat it at home.) Make sure to check out the market as you wait for your food...and yes you probably will have to wait. Last time I was there, the lady said the wait was about 20 minutes. Don't fret though, the wait is totally worth it. Only bummer? E-Mart is not close to home, so any trip here will always be a super special occasion for me. read more

Ok I know it is kinda weird to have a little dinning area in a grocery store, but if Ikea can do it then so should E-Mart. The food here was surprisingly really GOOD and super CHEAP!! I love the seafood pancakes it is so much better than Shila. This place actually puts seafood in it. My only grip is that they put the noddles and the broth together so by the time we got home it was all mushy! EW! But its ok- because it was still really good and i ate it all (oink oink). The food tasted all very fresh and good portion sizes. I saw one lady run from the back of the store and grab some shrimp and run back to the food stall so i'm assuming that they use it!?!? The grocery store ain't too shabby either! Nice selection of grocery's and snacks. I will admit that it was weird to see a kia in the middle of the store though? Hm, anyway, would definitely come back for some cheap eats! nom nom nom. read more

Love Hmart! Try to come here at least a few times a month. They have a wide produce section, all the meat you can think of, and tons of frozen dumplings to choose from. They have a restaurant in here as well, definitely need to try something when I have more time. I grab my usual meats for Korean bbq, noodles, fresh kimchi, and pan fry dumplings, oh and can't forget vanilla cream puffs of deliciousness. read more

I never thought I'd find a Korean food stall in Metro Detroit! I went there last Saturday, & I had dukbooki (my favorite food on the planet). It was perfect. The duk (rice cakes) were chewy, the gojoochang sauce was dark red, spicy, and sweet. Most importantly, the dukbooki included a whole boiled egg. The sign of good dukbooki in my book is a whole boiled egg! I will be back! And next time, I hope to bring the Metro Detroit Korean Language & Culture Meetup Group with me! read more

I dropped by this store with my mom to pick up ingredients for Szechuan hotpot. Keep in mind there really isn't a large Korean population in metro Detroit and of this small population a majority resides in Troy hence the existence of an H Mart. H Mart here is significantly smaller with a much less diversified food court when compared to its eponymous cousin in Houston. I was on the hunt for cylindrical rice cakes and the only option came with some sort of sauté sauce which of course reflected in the price. I had to settle for sliced rice cake as that was the only option for plain rice cake. They have some bakery items but their selection is very small.... This isn't Tous Les Jours. In addition their snack aisle (aka the most important aisle in any Asian grocery store) is really small.... Grrrr. So why the 3 stars? Because for where it's located, this isn't that bad however I'm spoiled by my frequent patronage of Houston's H mart and sadly in comparison this one falls short. Oh well.... I come home for home cooked meals and Arabic food anyway. read more

Okay I hate to be the bearer of bad news here. So I will tell you the positives first. 1. Wide selection of kimchi. I adore kimchi and there are all different types and sizes. 2. A wide selection of Korean food. But the one negative that keeps me from buying anything that is not closed up and making sure that I am not trying their open food section. BIG squirrel sized rats! I swear to you I am not lying! It was about 2 years ago and I was talking to someone at the far corner of the store(H-mart) and all of the sudden I looked up to what I thought might have been a squirrel but realized very quickly it was a rat. It was just as bold and strolling along as if it didn't have a care in the world and didn't care that there were humans standing right in front of it. I'll turn around and ask them woman to whom I was talking to did they see what I saw and they said yes while they turned white and ran away. I confronted the manager about the issue I don't know how much English he spoke and I don't speak any Korean. He just bowed A lot trying to say that he was sorry. It took me a while to go back and even now 2 years later I won't buy anything that is not covered. Hopefully they taking care of their issue. read more

I didn't have time really to peruse the aisles, but let me tell you, it was bright, clean, sprinkled with smiling faces, loads of fresh produce! How did I not know this place existed I'd beyond me... I finally found a Korean Supermarket!!! I was so excited to see there was an H Mart close to me after moving from Washington D.C. It's a little smaller then the one by my old house but I was so happy to see something familiar after moving to a place I've never been. I have been shopping at this place for several years now and have been a loyal customer throughout. Recently I had a very disappointing experience that has change my view of this place. My wife and I purchase some frozen noodles for our son a few weeks back. When we ate the noodles we found the taste to be a bit off, like they were way too old. The fact that we found bad food was not the issue. It was when we decided to try to return the goods where things got very dicey. First, trying to find somebody who could actually handle a return was incredibly difficult. My wife had to talk to about three different people before she got to somebody who would even listen to her. At first, they seemed open to a return, but then they started questioning my wife about her honesty. They actually said if the noodles were bad why weren't other customers making the same arguments. We found this response to be incredibly insulting and ridiculous as you have to keep in mind these noodles cost about $4. We used to go to H Mart on a weekly basis, but have not been since. In short this place is a nice grocery store but God help you if you're trying to return anything. read more

Excellent Korean/Japanese/Chinese market. They have everything you could possibly need as an Asian expat living in the area or as a non-Asian with a penchant for Asian food and cuisine. It ranges from several varieties of rice in massive bags to sauces, spices, pre-packaged shelf stable/frozen dinners, fresh veggies, live seafood (many fish you may have never even heard of), snacks, sweets, junk food, eating/cooking utensils, general kitchen wares and even a restaurant for fresh made soups and more. I unfortunately did not buy anything here as time was short for me on this trip so I can't speak to the prices here. I will be back but I wish I lived in the area simply to reap the benefits of being able to shop here. (Other than the fact that it's Detroit and I would NOT want to live here for any other reason.) read more

Thank you for the previous reviews. We love going to Hankuk in Clinton Township (33717 S Gratiot Ave, north of 14 Mile) but didn't have time for the drive. The E Mart market is good-sized, fresh blue crabs and fresh bok choy could be found yesterday. Glad to chose between the 5! types of oyster sauce. We were the only non-Asian's in the food stall. Dumplings were fair, but might just be me, as thin wraps are not my favorite. The Bi bim bop was delicious, served with very light miso soup full of scallions. The Soon dubu was excellent, warm, spicy and comforting. We'll be going back, especially after essential trips to REI. Also nearby - a new Middle Eastern market called Paradise is opening in the same strip mall. Picked up dates, pistachios, apricots and my beau got fresh ground Turkish coffee. It has boxes of candy you can only find in Canada - KitKats, Kinder and others. read more

It was really busy so I had some time to check out the store, which by the way was really cool with more variety then you know what to do with. I had the spicy squid (even asked them to make it spicier) and even though I have no idea what's in this food it's awesome. I will definitely be going again. read more

I think they strategically placed the fish section so that when you walk through the front doors you're slapped with that wonderful fishy smell. Ahhhhh gotta love it. Other than the smell, this place is on par with 168 market. Probably the two top stores in the metro Detroit area when it comes to Asian/Japanese shopping. If you can't find a product at H-mart then it probably doesn't exist. read more

The restaurant connected in the front of Hmart doesn't seem to have a yelp page, but my experience here must be shared!! It definitely reminded me of Korean dining. Must places in Korea are self service and I enjoyed to find this similar concept here in America at the Hmart restaurant. Although I enjoyed the set up, the prices and taste of the food is what really won the 5 stars from me. The prices are the cheapest I have ever seen for Korean food and I was surprised to see how most of the menu was $10 or less. Not only were the prices keeping my wallet happy, but the taste of the food has kept my tummy happy as well. They definitely have the best (spicy rice cakes) I have ever had!! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is struggling on deciding what to order :) read more
