Every time I make a special trip to shop here, each member of the staff team - from the owner to the cashier - is extremely welcoming. They take time to not just say 'hi' to me, but also educate me on their imported products and even give me great recipe ideas. Their food is amazingly fresh, their spices are plenteous and the shelves offer an abundance of overseas variety. I almost hate to talk about this market - like to think of it as a secret! Staff is friendly and helpful and it's well stocked with every possible spice, ready to go food and more. One of the cleanest and nicest import stores I have shopped in Michigan and I've been to a lot of them. Carries Middle Eastern, Balkan, Mediterranean and South American goodies. Every kind of cheese you could think of, spices galore, meats, snacks and drinks. Every employee I interacted with was a joy and very knowledgeable. Store is set up beautifully and you can see they take pride in it unlike a lot of other import stores. Found a new favorite spot! read more

Great selection. I came mostly for the Yerba, and the selection is wonderful. The bombillas, however, are very low quality. They seem to be made of tin plate, and the foil began to peel after under a week of use, and gave the mate a weird taste. read more

if ever there was a "go to" [metro detroit] market for all of those fabulous mid eastern and brazilian food supplies, this is it. without doubt, the highest quality and best selections to be found are right here in this store. don't know what you are looking for? ask. you won't be steered in the wrong direction. it is a good long drive from my home to this store but it is worth every moment. last week, i believe there 12 varieties of feta cheese to choose from....olive oils? too many! you'll be very glad you explored the store. read more

I frequent Mediterranean restaurants in the metro area, so I have my favorite dishes. I have no clue how I would even begin cooking Mediterranean food, so I rely on local grocers to do it for me. International Food is a great example of where I can go to get the staples that I am looking for. If you don't know what you are looking for or are uncomfortable with looking lost, you could be in trouble. The staff isn't very helpful and almost nothing has an explanation. However, their hummus and toum are really good and quite cheep. In addition, they have kasseri cheese so I can make saganaki at home, Opa!! My family recently hired an Au Pair from Brazil. In preparation of her arrival, we found this market, which happens to be minutes from our home. When we first took her their to shop, she actually broke down and cried when she found that many of her staple and comfort foods were sold here. Each time we have gone back, we have met other Brazilian nationals/Brazilian au pairs shopping here. On our last visit, one of these au pairs called this "heaven" for Brazilians in Michigan. Frankly, most of the products seems to be replaceable by American counterparts, but I have also lived abroad and I understand the sheer joy of eating food from home. This place also offers middle eastern fare, and had a wife variety of meats and cheeses. Based on my special circumstances, I am super happy to have such a place so close to home. read more

Great prices compared to other markets in the area. It's clean and they have a great olive/turnip/pepper station The chicken is severely plumped up with water so it made it difficult to cook while water just seeped put of it while cooking it, so I probably won't keep getting meats from there. They have a great selection of cheeses and groceries. read more

This is the closest (and best) Mediterranean grocery next to my friend's house. Walk into this small shop to find an assortment of Arab and Iranian/Persian ingredients. However, the last time I came, they had large cans of black truffles ($39.99 each). You can probably find a lot of other random ethnic foods here. I've come here a few times to load up on Pooneh (wild mint powder), Tilda rice, tomato paste in a jar, and halal meats. I noticed they also sell Barberries (zereshk)! Very reasonably priced and low minimum for credit cards (~$5). Halal chicken breast is only $2.19/lb and ground sirloin at only $3.99/lb. The best ground beef I have ever ordered. The meat just crumbled itself into taco meat. It was perfect! Just wish they had produce - then it would be a one stop shop! read more

This is a great middle-eastern/Arabic based grocery/goods store in Sterling Heights. I like to think of my area as a STRONGLY Middle-Eastern influenced area - and this shop is a great example of it. Being an Asian-Indian American, I already frequented this plaza from time to time to visit Laxmi Foods next door - so when I asked my friendly Arab American neighbors about where to buy a hookah and tobacco set nearby - they referred me to International Foods. When I got to this shop - I saw that over 90% of their products are imported/distributed either directly or via 3rd party from another country, mostly from the Middle East. There is a nice collection of Latin American "Goya" products as well. I got a great hookah set for $35 that came with its own carrying case and some phenomenal "sheesha tobacco" to pack it with as well. I highly recommend the brand "Starbuzz" if you're comfortable with paying $20/can - or the brand "360" or "Skybuzz" if you are on a $10/flavor budget. There are many low-key $5 brands too which are still good and when trying a new flavor or on a tight budget, $5 won't break the bank. The guy at the register was very honest in recommending a hookah set to me and he spoke from several years of 1st hand experience. I ended up buying some very tasty baklava from here, too. Though, typically I would suggest a Mid-East bakery for baklava - I just wanted to show this shop a token of my appreciation for good business. Recently, when my clumsy girlfriend broke the ceramic bowl to my hookah set, I was able to come back here and get the replacement part for just a few bucks and in a jiffy! Come here for a variety of Middle Eastern foods, goods, hookahs, tobaccos, nuts, dates, etc. etc. If you are in Sterling Heights/Troy - it is definitely worth a visit! International food is one of the regular places that I go to. I like the selection of middle eastern groceries that they have and I usually find what I need. Also the staff behind the front counter are usually very attentive and always smiling which is definitely a plus. The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is the meat counter. If I really dislike something about this place it would be the meat counter. The people that work behind the meat counter are rude and have a real bad attitude. They also do real bad job with the meat. I always spend extra time when I get back home to further clean the meat after their lousy job. On one occasion I caught meat counter guys making fun of me in a different language thinking I don't speak it. I made them aware that I do, however, I have been avoiding the meat counter every time I go there since. I get my meat from other places in the area that are much better in terms of quality and customer service. read more

Just bought ground lamb from International Foods and made up more Raw Kibbeh than is humanly possible for two people to eat and it was some of the best I have ever had... and the fact that I watched It get freshly ground ....Four times!!!!! and it was super fresh, lean and darker red than you could ever hope for. My family has been coming here since I was a kid. I love this place, everything is always fresh and clean. The owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. My boyfriend and I always come here for everything. They have a wide range of products. I love the pistachio chocolate. Both ulker and nestle. The hummus is soso delicious. Both the regular and spicy. The olives are always good and fresh and so is the cheese. Recently we tried the veggie dolmas and they tasted amazing. No restaurant that we've been to has had even decent grape leaves. They always taste gross and nothing like homemade. The grape leaves here were cooked to perfection, the leaves were the perfect texture and the rice was delicious. We literally went back the next day for more. I would give them 4.5 stars if I could, only because you can't buy smaller portions of the halal filet mignon. We buy all our meat here. I have not found a better place for ground lamb or beef. The quality of meat is excellent! Based on some of the pictures, my friend and I thought this store was more asian (I know, looking back at the hookahs, I should've known) anywho, we stopped by and my friend was so excited to see Bounty bars (milk and dark chocolate bars filled with coconut). The cashier was very friendly and talkative. They seem to offer a lot of middle eastern items. I wish I was a bit more knowledgable in the items, so I can get über excited but I thought this place was cool. I probably would be back if I lived closer. read more
